Shedeur Sanders Named Browns Starting QB For First Time | Pat McAfee Show

Shador Sanders will be starting for the Cleveland Browns this weekend. Good luck Shador. There you go. Now, this will be a full week with the offense being kind of uh shifted around what Shadore does well, what Shador likes, what Shadore doesn’t like. He will be getting the reps with all the starters, including, you know, offensive line, but mo more importantly wide receivers, everybody, the timing of things. Him and Stfansky will be able to watch film together. This is big news, especially from the people that just found out like a couple days ago that backup quarterbacks don’t really get the bell of the ball treatment in NFL buildings. They’re certainly there. They certainly have a job. You certainly are part of the team, but this is starting quarterback’s team. And it’s not just the backup quarterback that has to act that way, but it’s everybody in the building is acting as if it’s the starting quarterback’s team. So now that is Shadore. So good luck to him. excited to see what Stfansky does with Shador and what their offense does. And uh who they playing? They play the Raiders. So like it should be, you know, that tough, physical, elite offensive line against Miles Garrett. Like that should be a pretty that that should be a fun one to watch on Sunday. Well, and then on a flip side, Max Crosby with Shadore Sanders. Yeah, exactly. And I think maybe their friend. It could be. That’s what’s tough though is like, you know, Max Crosby could have 15 sacks and force like eight fumbles and the Raiders still might get beat by 50, which is goes back to our Yeah, we’re not doing it. Get them out of there. Get him out of there. Congrats Shadore, though. This is a big day. Big. How do you think they do? Oh, I mean, you’re playing the Raiders. We always look at a schedule say, “Hey, when would you want a quarterback to get into?” Hey, we always And it’s the NFL. This is the plan. It’s the NFL, so it’s always tough teams, but yeah, if you could dream it up, this is the game you want to enter and get an opportunity. So, this be cool. You’re going against the team they know, you know, he knows, the family knows Tom Brady has a relationship with there. Obviously, the Raiders had an opportunity to draft him. Uh, but for him, it’s going to start for me up front like how how well can he set protections, how well can he be protected, and then that’s when you can see the true talent of a quarterback. We see it happen all the time where people go to certain places, it’s like, okay, this guy stinks. But Daniel Jones for example, like he was under duress for his entire career in New York and then he gets here and has a full competent offense surrounded by some talent and he looks like a complete different quarterback. So it’ll be start number one uh you know in the middle of the season which is always tough but uh I’m excited to see how he figures it out up front first and foremost. How do they are they talent? I mean for a fifth round pick you’re always going to get your start probably in the middle of the season just Yeah. You know, in the backup quarterback thing, I don’t know how any of them ever have success, like being 100% serious. Like, think about the situation that Shador got dropped into and everybody that didn’t really know how like a week to week works in a team was like this. He has no idea what he’s It’s like, yeah, that’s backup quarterbacks getting dropped into games. Insanity in my eyes. You got to be very good. That’s why normally these backup quarterbacks stick around for a long time because it’s like a position you’re doing homework. you’re able to uh execute every offense against your defense that you need to give looks for. And also, if you’ve been standing around for three and a half hours in the freezing cold watching something else, you have to be able to put your bet. You have to go out there right now and oh yeah, most important position right now. And uh you’re going to get blindsided and you have no feel for how this game has gone. So, backup quarterback sucks. I would say there’s a lot of people that want that job, but I I think that is a very difficult job to succeed in. as a coach having a rookie backup quarterback that’s the worst position you would be. We see it with San Fran M. Jones he was ready. Even Mariota like he he’s going to give you an opportunity. Uh Jamus Winston like you have Jacobe Brassette like you have veteran quarterbacks as Rudolph like legit you have these veteran quarterbacks who have either been a starter at one point when we had Matt Hasselback if luck was out for three or four games like we’re running out of the tunnel. We still feel like we had a chance to win every game. But when you’re putting a rookie quarterback who haven’t who hasn’t had live reps, even if you’re getting practice against the starters, you’re not getting live reps. You’re not getting real pressure. You’re not dealing with everything as far as a play call and all the different moving parts. So everybody’s kind of figuring that out at the same time. So it’s it’s going to be a huge challenge to your point. It it’ll be crazy. But so if he is successful, that’ll be more surprising than than the opposite. Exactly. That’s what I’m saying. Like I I people are going to kill Shadore. Like it if it goes bad, which it could could go bad, could go great. I mean there’s a ch because you look at these balls. I mean the arm talent is very real. So like what Shadore and Shador takes a lot of hits gets right back up. There’s a lot of great in Shador’s game. Now being able to understand the comprehensive defense and the blocking and where your guys are going to probably lean to as opposed to actually being and all that type of It’s like we have no idea if Shadore is able to do that. That’s the biggest difference. Right. In baseball, it’s like, can you hit the curveball? That that separates you from being major versus the in football at quarterback, it’s like, can you figure out what they’re doing on the other side? And how quickly can you do that? And what does that information do for you? Like everybody obviously talks about, well, if you’re a great athlete, you can be a quarterback or whatever. It’s like maybe in college, in the NFL, you have to know what the hell’s going on. And your football IQ is going to be on display. This is the highest level for a reason. So, it’s like what is Shador’s football IQ, I guess, is going to be found out here. And I’m not saying that we know week one, but like that’s the difference. His arm talent’s there. His toughness is there. We assume he’s not scared of the big moment because his life is literally just a big moment all the time. He’s being watched by everybody since he was in eighth grade or whatever. So, I just I don’t know. I I’m excited to see how it goes, but there’s a chance like he dices like there’s a chance he dices some things up, especially with Stfans, who’s not a bad play caller. And then there’s a chance this goes really bad. Like there’s a chance it goes really really bad. And I think you never know with a rookie quarterback, but boy, Monday is going to be loud one way or the other with Shadore. And for the Cleveland Browns, we say thank you for adding that into our sports media. Without a doubt. Without a doubt. Yeah. No, I mean, and boy, it’s crazy to think that this game now will maybe be like one of the most most watched games of the weekend. Clipped for sure. Yeah, exactly. Whereas going in, you know, it’s like, hey, this is arguably maybe the worst game of the NFL season. So like having that is uh you know at least maybe Roger Goodell made the call. Yeah. You know the NFL they can do whatever they want. Goodell might be there. He might be in the owner suite. You know I don’t know where it’s being played. Maybe he might be sitting in Jimmy Hasslam’s suite. You know watching this game uh firsthand. We’ll see.

  6. I am THRILLED the Giants passed on Shaduer and this isn't hindsight… was saying long before the draft he was NOT #3 talent and even in a soft QB draft not a first round talent, imo. He took either the most or 2nd most sacks of all QB in NCAA his last two years most of that was due to holding the ball and waiting for a Rec to run around backyard style and get open and looking at him for the ball (will NOT work in the NFL). I still LOVED to watch him play and I am a Shaduer and Colorado fan… I just thought he was way overhyped going into the draft but that fall was unwarranted it felt like a punishment for an unstated crime. I was not shocked he fell out of first and but was fairly shocked he didnt got in the 2nd, the rest felt like a punishment.

    He has the physical gifts… no question… he has the physical toughness… But I truly have not seen anything from him while watching him over the last few years that makes me think he has an elite football IQ. Maybe I am wrong and I actually hope I am because I love to watch him play want want to see him playing. Just, as a Giants fan I wanted Carter and Dart…. and I got my wish… I knew this year would be a rebuild regardless but I wanted that rebuild around Dart not Sanders.

    Regardless… Good luck Shaduer…. hope you rock it.

  9. This needs to be on T.V and I'm not a fan of either team. I do support players who seems to have to work harder then others because of hate… I'm just happy to see QB12 play good or bad..Everyone know both teams have the same recored and the Browns are the underdogs so all this about IT's JUST THE RAIDERS / The Raiders are saying the something in reverse..IT's JUST THE BROWNS🤣

  18. He at least moves the ball downfield! He's got a pretty throw. He just needs to be in there! This week is crucial for him. I'm predicting he throws for over 200 yards, 2-3 TDs and hopefully no interceptions.

  32. I’m surprised they played/are playing sanders at all. My guess is that they found out early in training camp that sanders is a scrub so instead of playing him and showing the world he doesn’t have it they would keep him on the bench and try to trade him to a team who doesn’t know yet that he is garbage. I guess the pressure from fans got to be too much so the team is playing him, sort of like a way to say “oh, you want to see him? You think we were hiding a diamond in the rough? Okay prepare to be shocked.” I bet he goes about 11 for 34 for under 150 yards with 0 TDs and multiple picks, with most of those yards coming after the game is lost. Even then people will find a way to not blame sanders.

He was always going to get a shot because this is football and people get hurt playing football…he's a decent passer but he's like all rookies…holds the ball too long and then runs backwards to try and extend a play….throws too many balls to the wrong team and he'll have a chance to get hurt like the rest to the players…break a leg !!

  37. To answer the question, this is the worst tackle situation I’ve seen on any team in 45 years. Complete turnstile. 5-6th guys starting. It’s really bad. National media doesn’t talk about it

  43. That 5th round draft line is literally their main excuse for everything, knowing he wasn't supposed to fall past 2nd round…so wen they lead with that I automatically put them in the disingenuous category

  44. This is going to be bad….VERY bad for Cleveland. And especially for Shedeur. He is NOT an NFL QB right now, and he should not be playing a single snap until he is mentally prepared for the defensive beat down he is going to get, which will likely shatter his confidence that he is actually good enough to improve over the next 2 years to be able to start.

    On the positive side, the Browns will be able to let him play enough so that even his most rabid fans admit he will be trash for the next 18 months…..will allow the coaches and front office to do their jobs with no more second-guessing and criticism. The fans may even flip out and demand that he be traded far far away……

    I've watched him without bias and I can see that he just does not have the QB IQ that he needs, and he may NEVER have it. He just doesn't know what he's looking at when he's behind the Center-defensively OR offensively, and he cannot handle pressure at all.

    Now, in 2 years we may have a very different story, but right now…….he's a 4th-string QB…..with horrible footwork, no mobility, no vision, butterfingers, no timing, bad mechanics, and bad memory. But these are all things that can be fixed with time and humility.

  47. Dide.missed a wide open WR in the corner of the end zone. TD passes don't get any easier than that, there was no defender within 10 yds.😂😂 can't blame that on anyone else but the QBs terrible accuracy.
