The Dallas Mavericks Have A GOLDEN Opportunity…
The Dallas Mavericks have a golden opportunity to fix one of their major issues that’s been plaguing them so far, and that is their point guard position. We got news just the other day that highlights how Dante Exom will miss the entirety of the season due to a knee surgery that he got over the summer that the Mavs just finally decided to disclose. On top of that, we don’t know when Kyrie Irving will return. And there have been various reports showing how D’Angel Russell has rubbed his teammates the wrong way and how the Mavs are open to trading D’Angel Russell, which leaves the Dallas Mavericks with Brandon Williams and no real other point guard. But in comes LaMelo Ball as just the other day we got more reports showing that LaMelo Ball has requested a trade from the Charlotte Hornets and the Dallas Mavericks have been named a team linked to the star point guard. So, in this video, we’re going to take a look at LaMelo Ball, see what’s going on over there in Charlotte, how well has he been playing this year, what’s up with Anthony Davis, and which direction should the Mavericks really take. But, how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest bringing you latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, we’re currently sitting at 23,026 subscribers. We are on the road to 25K. Hey, and if you want to be up to date on everything Mavericks related, from trade rumors, injury updates, live streams, everything else in between, make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss out on a single thing that we do. But ever since Nico Harrison’s been fired, there have been rumors flying left, right, and center highlighting how the Dallas Mavericks, which is now being led by Mark Cuban, is desperate to make a move. Whether we decided to just retool around Cooper flag, wait on Andy Davis and Kyrie Irving to return, or we’re going to blow it up. The reports have been kind of various. And a few days ago, we went over how the Dallas Mavericks are interested in trading Anthony Davis. Only for Mark Cuban to come out and say, “No, we’re going to keep him. We’re not looking to trade him.” And if you know how Mark Cuban operates, that’s probably the opposite. He’s not going to come out and just flat out say, “Yes, I want to trade Anthony Davis right now.” A lot of you have been quick to tell me that he has no real trade value. So, if Anthony Davis does get traded, it will most likely be close to the trade deadline after he comes back from injury, after he builds up some value. A lot of people would be surprised to find out that Anthony Davis already does have trade value. But if you want to get take a look at the most recent report surrounding Anthony Davis, the Dallas Mavericks are willing to listen to trade offers for Anthony Davis, but have no interest in trading Kyrie Irving per Mark Stein, saying how league sources say that the Mavericks still intend to find any trade interest in Davis that emerges over the next two plus months with the prospect of an actual trade obviously dependent on offer quality. Davis, remember, has only been healthy enough to appear in 14 of 48 regular season games since becoming a Maverick due to series adductor and calf setbacks. Sources say the Mavericks, by by contrast, are not encouraging trade inquiries for Kyrie Irving, who remains out indeely after undergoing knee surgery in late March. Already vibing nicely with prize rookie Cooper Flag in practice in practice setting, Irving is a player they hope to keep. There have been many reports that do do mirror what this one is saying, how the Dallas Mavericks want to keep Kyrie Irving. They see him as a long-term fit alongside Cooper Flag. And I would imagine whether we are trying to compete right now or the next two, three seasons for a championship or if we decide to blow it up and want to really focus on Cooper Flag. Regardless of that direction, I do see the Dallas Mavericks keeping Kyrie Irving as he likes it here. He said it many times that he feels like he can be himself here. We’ve seen a whole different kind of Kyrie Irving in Dallas. we have done right by him and he’s done right by us. So, if we decide to keep Kyrie Irving, whether it’s a rebuild or a retool, it’s good for Cooper Flag and the team understands that. However, like I said, one of the major issues that we have on this team right now, aside from no draft picks or the fact that we’re losing games, is our point guard position. We did start the season with Cooper Flag at point guard. Not his natural position, didn’t look that good. And then we tried D’Angelo Russell because he was playing very well off the bench and Brandon Williams wasn’t back from his injury yet. He was also away for personal matters. We didn’t necessarily love what we saw from D’Angelo Russell. There have been some games that he’s been good and some games it’s just a few off games for D’Angelo Russell until now. We have Brandon Williams in the driver’s seat as our starting point guard and we’ve had some really good results where I see Brandon Williams being our starting point guard until Kyrie Irving returns. However, with all that being said, we are now short at the point guard position. We did get this report just the other day that LaMelo Ball has grown frustrated in Charlotte and is open for a trade. And following that report, we did find out that the Bulls, Mavericks, and Raptors have been mentioned as landing spots for LaMelo Ball if he was to be traded. And I’m not too upset by this. LaMelo Ball is a good point guard. His numbers look very good in Charlotte. I’m sure that in some way, shape, or form should translate if he were to play in the Dallas Maverick system. And if we were to trade Andy Davis in some some way to get LaMelo Ball, I would imagine that LaMelo Ball would be our starting point guard until Kyrie returns. And even then, you could probably play LaMelo Ball at the two, Kyrie at the one. But let’s take a look at how well LaMelo Ball has been playing this season. So far for the season, LaMelo Ball has been averaging 21.6 points, about 6.9 rebounds, 9.6 assists,.1 blocks, 1.4 four steals, 3.7 turnovers, and 3.1 fouls per game while averaging 38% from the floor and only 29% from three. The one thing I really like from this stat sheet is the 9.6 assists. That is one of our very, very glaring weakness on this team. Without Kyrie Irving, without other shot creators and playmakers, the team does not do well in the assist column. So, if we were to get someone like LaMelo Ball, I would love the fact that we would be moving the ball more. more guys would be able to get integrated into the offense like a Derek Lively who many people have said can’t really do what he does best without a good point guard like he did with Luca. The only thing I don’t like from this is the shooting percentages. 38% from the floor is pretty bad. And then 29% from three that doesn’t help our shooting problem. As we know, we’re not the best three-pointing shooting team. Naji Marshall has improved over the last several games. PJ looks very on par for his own averages. Max Christie has taken a step up. Even Clay has done a little bit better off the bench as well from three. But if we’re going to get someone like LaMelo Ball to be a point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, he is on the younger side. He he fits that timeline for Cooper Flag a lot nicer than some other players like a Dante Exom, who we did get an update from just the other day, showing how the the Dallas Mavericks announced that Dante Exm will miss the entire 2025 2026 season. Exm had surgery on his right knee over the off seasonason and he has had complications because of this. He now has to have a follow-up surgery. This was the gamble that I was hoping we would avoid with the Dallas Mavericks and not just Dante XM specifically. It’s very unfortunate what what has happened to Dante. There was once upon a time where Dante was great for us as our third ball handler. Him, Kyrie, Luca, it was great. It worked. Last season he was dealing with injuries and this off seasonason we decided to bring him back and it’s very unfortunate for him but that shows you the type of gambling this team has done so far with the health of these players if we are to make trades if we are to just assemble a ros around Cooper flag we need players who can stay healthy and it’s kind of ironic I say that when you speak about LaMelo Ball who has also dealt with injuries early on his career however I would argue that if you can have a younger player who might be dealing with injuries that’s better than older player dealing with injuries as you have way more time with that young player to get healthy and come back versus your older player. Everybody understands that. But the Dallas Mavericks obviously have an issue at the point guard position. LaMelo Ball now wants to be traded. The Mavericks are involved. We know that we are fielding calls for Anthony Davis, but the truth of the matter is that trade may bite us in the butt. LaMelo Ball should fetch at least one first round pick. The Dallas Mavericks don’t really have that many picks that they want to use. Maybe a pick swap, maybe just some second round picks. Maybe that could get it done. We definitely have the salary to match the melo ball. That’s not a problem. But it’s what will it take? Are the Charlotte Hornets selling low on the Mellow Ball seeing that he really hasn’t done much for the organization? Dealing with injuries, dealing with off-c court drama as well as being hurt while they have someone like Conuple who looked like he could be the rookie of the year if Cooper Flag doesn’t have some really just standout games in this upcoming few months. You also have another young player in Brandon Miller who is dealing with injury but will be back. They still have a couple other guys on that team. They could do something with their young core in the next few years. Maybe not right away. Maybe Anthony Davis isn’t who you trade for, but if the Mavericks do have their eyes set on the LaMelo Ball and Anthony Davis as well as Klay Thompson as well as Dandel Russell are are all on the table to be traded, then there is a reality where we do get LaMelo Ball. But if we want to continue with a few more updates that we have, just a reminder, the February 2024 acquisition of PJ Washington from Charlotte was the last Maverick’s transaction that Mark Cuban had a tangible role in per Mark Stein. So that’s very interesting knowing that Nico Harrison was our GM and there were others that were influencing him during the February 2024 trade light trade deadline where we got PJ Washington as well as Daniel Gaffford. It is interesting to know that it was actually Mark Hubin who made a big push for us to get PJ Washington as well as having a big hand in that. Not sure if he has a relationship with the Hornets, but if that’s the case, knowing that we are linked to LaMelo Ball, knowing that Mark Cuban is in the driver’s seat, I mean, 2 plus 2= four, you do the math, there could be something coming in the next few weeks about LaMelo Ball and the Dallas Mavericks. But the last thing I want to leave you guys with is this right here. The Indiana, the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings are expected to gain interest in trade for Anthony Davis, multiple sources say. So, not only could it be Charlotte, could be several teams, which goes back to my point I made earlier that there is a trademark for Anthony Davis. A lot of people feel like he doesn’t have value. The value will come from his availability. So, once he’s actually healthy, then you can really gauge the market once he gets back on the court, plays a few games, and really builds up that value. But even now, there are teams that are interested in Anthony Davis. But those teams probably don’t want to give up too much until they see more, which definitely makes sense. But let me know what you think in the comment section down below. Do you think that LaMelo Ball will be a good fit here? Are there any other point guards that you think that we should go after? Or should we trust the guys that we currently have, trade nobody, and just go for broke? Let me know what you think in the comments section down below. We’d have a conversation about it. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thank you for this part to the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always, y’all take care. Drink water. Peace.
Marcel Martin breaks down the shocking reports that the Dallas Mavericks are showing interest in LaMelo Ball, exploring why the front office may view him as a potential long-term cornerstone next to Cooper Flagg. He analyzes how LaMelo’s playmaking, size, and offensive creativity could transform the Mavs’ backcourt and elevate their ceiling. Marcel also discusses what a trade package might look like — and whether pursuing LaMelo signals a major philosophical shift for Dallas.

Trading an old injury prone player for a young one huh? Both Ball brothers combined don't have 2 full seasons worth of games played between them 😂
I think the Dlo report is 🧢
you got it wrong, if you have Kyrie and Lamelo, Lamelo is your point guard and Kyrie is your shooting guard ✅
Perfect for what not going to happen
Im not opposed to keeping AD, but be opportunistic. If you don't move him before the deadline and decide to resign him, do it at a discount. This franchise's priority should be building around Cooper Flagg, PJ Washington and Max Christie.
LaMelo should be a pass. The Mavs need to get Giannis to turn this team around.
AD is powerful offensively and defensively, LaMelo is only good at offense. Both are injury prone. Interesting thought, but I disagree.
I commented AD for Lamello ball the day Nico got fired. But it was an effin joke 😂😂
This probably ain't happening.
Yuhhh… aging, injury-prone allstar for a young, injury-prone allstar… its actually a better trade for us, so we'll likely give up assets… so no thx lol
Get Lamelo Ball without Giving up AD, Kai or Cooper. Its possible
That's a horrible idea at least when AD is healthy he Is a serious player Lamelo plays Inefficient street ball in the NBA and hes probably more injury prone than AD
LaMelo for AD.
We should let Dante go, which would free up a spot on the roster for Cisse. LaMelo would be a perfect fit and could remedy our weaknesses, especially with his creativity on offense, which would also benefit players like Gafford and DLive. We have enough defenders.
Please NO. Lamelo is entertaining but way too injury prone and nobody seems to think you can win titles with that style of PG.
Wait for Darryn Peterson.
I would love this trade
Joke of a franchise we’ve turned in to. Luka the real generational talent perennial mvp candidate averaging 35 a game meanwhile over here talking about LaMelo 😂
Melo , Kon for Ad , christie , dlo and a pick maybe?? Or add klay??
I'd rather take Ja than LeMelo… but I honestly don't want either
We need mire of them neing treated like rodney king. I can see why it happened and it need to happen imo.
Soooo you trade a that plays defense and always hurt and plays ZERO defense. 😂😂
What a stupid trade. Lamelo doesn't make us better. Our defense gets worse, his shooting percentage from the field and from 3 is horrible, and he plays street ball so the turnovers will go up. Why not just keep Ad. Ball is hurt just as much. What are we doing? Is Ad not wanted this much? These trades that you suggests makes us worse not better
No shot the Hornets would want another injury prone player
why would charlotte do this? their a young rebuilding team so ad has no value to them. melo is younger, on a better contract, and isn’t severely worse than AD so melo definitely has more trade value forcing mavs to pay for melo with picks
I would prefer Anthony Davis to the Bulls for Coby white Vucevic and a 1st honestly. But if we could trade Kyrie to the Hornets for Lamelo then I'm all for it.
Not a good trade for Dallas Mavs why would we go small… This trade wouldn't make sense
I would do that trade
Man the Mavs better make this happen. Coop, Melo and what ever 1st rd pick they get
That's a Joke right. Better get Cuban out of there while we can. Hire Niko! O Sorry….Go Mavs!
Yes please
Common be serious, AD with 1 leg is better than lamelo at his best ….
Temu Luka ain't fixing this 77 y curse
Injury prone or not…Ball would be more productive and give us a better outlook.
Somebody tell me how the Mavs are short ones and bigs lol I swear the last two years I think it's a joke
Any AD trade deal that gets Mavs at least one of their picks or pick swaps in 2027-2030 back IS A GOOD TRADE. So AD for Melo+2027 Mavs FRP back is a great deal for Mavs. Not necessarily for the Hornets though, they might want some other player too.
Also how the hell do we keep Dante and get rid of Dennis Smith Jr when one can still be playing and the other has been like this this is rookie season. Dante had ton of talent but if you remember he was always injured his first few seasons that's why he didn't stay in the league. Some people just don't get that injury concerns are more important than talent
If we’re gonna tank at least it would be fun to watch with lamelo lol
Does anyone not understand that we’re tanking? We’re not trading for Melo.
LOL D Lo wasted no time in turning teammates against him. 🤔 On the other hand, you really think trading AD for somebody that played average of 45 games per season in his career (and has been even more injury prone than a guy who was nicknamed Street Clothes), would be good idea?! I have no clue what kind of training Lavar put his sons through when they were young, but it seems either that, or genetics, made them unable to survive the grueling pace of the NBA, and personally, I wouldn't want any of them on my team. Now, that's assuming AD and Clutch would actually allow this trade to happen, which they won't.
I give ball a chance for one hes been on the hornets i stay injured if i was sent there no hope for the future he's a winner just got drafted to a bad franchise take the risk an still build in the upcoming draft
