Denver Broncos Get More GOOD News Over the Bye Week…

Rick Riley, Woody Paige, Adam Shfter, they all got their media start writing as beatw writers for the Denver Post. And the newest beat writer who could surpass them all is Luca Evans. He’s amazing. And in this video, he becomes a friend of Sports Talk Denver. And in this video, we talk about what are the Broncos doing over the bye-week, who’s coming back from injuries, what are you supposed to do when the best coach in all professional football calls you the wrong name, that and way more. Let’s dive in. My main man, your favorite guy, Sean Payton’s favorite guy. It’s Luca Evans. What is good, big dog, man? Ben, thanks for uh thanks for having me. Excited to to be on the channel. Talk some ball. It’s been a crazy year so far. So, yeah. Yeah, man. This is awesome. Nine and two, baby. All right. You are you’re at every practice. You’re asking Sean questions. Uh what’s what’s everybody doing over the by-week in Denver? Are the guys sticking around? Are they going other places? What what are you hearing about where what everybody’s doing with the by-week? Yeah, as far as our understanding, my understanding, everyone’s, you know, Tron has given the team the week off pretty much. Everyone gets a little bit of uh, you know, recharge time and and when you look at the the schedule that they’ve played, shoot, I think seven games in 39 days, something like that. I know six and and 32 at one point. So, so they’ve been in and the nature of them too, just the uh from a fans perspective, I’m sure, you know, the the the nailbiting and the the breath holding is getting a little bit excruciating. So, the the by-week, I’m sure, is coming at a good time, but uh that Chief’s win is is as big as any. Oh, absolutely, man. So, okay. So, that Chiefs win was huge. Why was Sean so grumpy in the post game? Like, what is your theory as to He was he was pretty testy. Like, I was fist bumping. high-fiving and he was he seemed like testy. What was up with that? You think the theory that I’m formulating I said this a little bit in just a Twitter video I did postgame, but I feel like the best teams in the league and the worst teams too, but at some level kind of take after like the personality and the mentality of their head coach, right? And you saw I think we’re almost seeing like and I wasn’t in New Orleans but just in the way that folks talk about him almost a rebirth of like the the early New Orleans Saints era Shawn Payeyton where you know there there was a there was a confidence there’s almost like a defiance you know in terms of how he he operated and just in terms of the locker room the messaging from players and that sort of thing the you know what are they going to say Now, you know, the to the the the doubters, the screw the doubters, that sort of nature is is just so in alignment with kind of the, you know, the the nature, the personality that Shawn Payeyton is putting forth right now. And I think he’s the rare coach where he almost gets a little bit more, you know, I I don’t want to say combative, but just a little bit more, you know, defiant when his team’s playing well, you know, because it’s at that point it’s they’re nine and two. You know, what what can you say to him? You know what? at this point and they have their they’ve had their flaws, they’ve had their tweaks, but they just, you know, they just knocked out the Chiefs. There’s not a lot that that he can be questioned on when your team is at at at eight an eightgame winning streak. So, I think that plays a little bit um a little bit into it and sort of the uh the I’m going to place my back against the wall, we’re going to place our back against the wall, we’re the underdogs here, you know, us against the world. that that sort of mentality, which you know, works out well for some teams, doesn’t work out well for others. It’s working out well for him right now. Yeah, dude. And even just hearing you say that makes me pumped up. Like, let’s go, man. Like, I I didn’t like my read of it was was kind of more like him being like, well, what did you expect? I I told y’all we were Super Bowl caliber team and all the national Colin Coward the week before being like, Seean’s going to draft a new quarterback. I But I think how you said is perfect. like he wants to make sure the team knows we’re not celebrating yet. Um, so love that. So during club dub, do you get to go in club dub or what do you do immediately after the game? We’re not in club dub. So we’re So the process is, you know, we we’re up there in the press box, watch the game, and then immediately after we’re going down, uh, we’re waiting in the the postgame press conference for Shawn to come in. And usually like every once in a while home game, you know, the locker room doesn’t open until until Shawn Payeyton finishes finishes his his press conference. Every once in a while you can kind of hear you can hear, you know, hooting, hollering, whooping, whatever. You know, almost through the wall of the press conference. Uh it didn’t hear that as much this week, which kind of surprised me. I thought we would get some, you know, some some bass or something happening. Uh but after you know he talked and then we go out go to the locker room generally like you can choose to I think Will Lutz talked at the podium right after him but I went in the locker room and at that point you know that club dub had already cleared out so we’re not in there we’re not in there for that we’re not in there for for Payton giving out game balls or this or that but um you still you know it’s not the adrenaline hasn’t completely worn off by that point. So, and you you could feel, you know, you walk in there and everyone’s guys are talking about mid-con conversation or yelling about something or nothing in particular like, you know, it was it was definitely a unique atmosphere on Sunday. I bet you can smell the wind on them. You just you smell clubdub, you know, like you don’t you feel it, you smell it. I don’t know if the smell is what I’m paying attention to, but you know, that’s that’s I hope I hope the smell gets in one of your next articles. Uh, all right. Bye-bye. All about self scouting. What do you think Shawn Payeyton is going to uh see when he self scouts this offense? Um, he’s certainly not not fond of of the tempo discussion uh at a certain point and no, he’s he’s definitely he’s he’s definitely not because I think there’s layers to it that we don’t fully get and so I think that’s part of it for him. But it was clear, you know, and you saw I think Tracy Wolf Wolfson said this on on the broadcast of the game, but Bo Nicks a couple of times on the broadcast was visibly going like this, you know, waving his finger to the sideline. And I believe Tracy Wolson reported that he and the offensive line were were, you know, chiming in to kind of get the play calls in quicker and speed things up a little bit in that first half. And I think you saw a noted like a notable shift in that third quarter. Um especially on that touchdown drive when they played a little bit faster with tempo, you know, kind of got the Chiefs on their heels a little bit. Even Payton acknowledged like one of them, I think, was to to to get ahead of a potential challenge, but they did run tempo or no huddle, I think two or three times on that drive. Um, and so I don’t know that that’s ever going to be, you know, you never want that to be a focal point of the offense. But I think just in terms of the general operation offensively, like that got cleaned up, it seemed drastically from the first half to the second half. Um, I don’t know specifically what changed, but I’d have to imagine that that Shawn Payeyton is going to look at that um and and note that certainly. Um, and then I think just in terms of adjustments overall, I mean, we’ll we’ll see what uh when Patan is back, you know, it could be certainly as early as as uh as this coming game against Washington. But I think in that case, you know, you have to to start thinking about how you’re going to incorporate him back into your defense, how you’re still going to use, you know, Jade Baron in that mold, who I think is is deserving of of more looks now down the stretch. So, um, that’s that’s obviously a Vance Joseph question, but those are a couple things I think that that they’ll be looking at. Yeah, man. You just wrote an awesome piece about Jade Baron being the tight end stopper and he definitely is and that has been the Achilles heel of this team for a long time. So definitely exciting to to look at that. So you mentioned Pat Certan coming back. Uh what else are you hearing uh with injuries coming back? We got um heard anything about Drew Sanders and then how about uh Alex Singleton and obviously uh Jonah Ellis as well. Yeah, Drew Sanders we really have no read on. U on you know he’s been doing work on the sidefield for a few weeks now. Um just rehab work and honestly don’t have a read at this point in the year on on whether he’s going to come back or not. I’m not saying that one way or another. just, you know, uh just in general, um you know, h hasn’t been obviously when Shawn Payeyton’s talked about him, he said he’s progressing well, but that leaves a lot of room for for however you want to interpret that. Um shoot at Alex Singleton for everything that that obviously that was just a crazy development. best wishes to to to him and and his family for navigating uh that and and the way that he’s spoken about, you know, that procedure, cancer, testicular cancer is is pretty incredible. Um he has been in every meeting room, at least from what Vance Joseph said, he was obviously there on Sunday. Um it just just wearing sweats. And so I’d have to think everything there and everything that I’ve heard at least has been positive. Um I don’t know if he’s gotten pathology back um from from the surgery yet and and that’s that’s obviously a sensitive thing. Um but again, best case scenario for him I think is you know maybe he’s back in a week or two. Um shoot a lot a lot to run through there. Obviously the the JK Dobbins lost things. Um I think that’s one to go back to your earlier question on on self scouting. That was the one thing that that the Broncos didn’t do well in that game was run the ball consistently. Um and especially gaining, you know, you think of RJ Harvey as as kind of the the guy who’s going to break runs off uh outside the tackles, but he’s actually been a lot more efficient between the tackles this year. So, I think, you know, I think they’re going to look at what they can do to get him going consistently a little bit. Um, and what he can do specifically in that capacity, but Dobbins, you know, it’s been reported, the only thing I know or what I know is if there’s if they get to a Super Bowl, he could be ready. Otherwise, you know, he’s he’s uh he’s likely looking at at, you know, season ending absence for him. So, it’s going to be a tough one to deal with. You said if they get to you meant when officially reporting when I am a I am a I’m a I’m an unbiased journalist. Uh Ben, so that’s that’s for that’s that’s I’m I’ll put the if in and I’ll leave the when to you. So well I mean you I told you off air, man, but you are are coming into some massive shoes. You talk Rick Riley, Adam Shfter, Woody Page, all national guys who got their start at the Denver Post and uh yeah, couldn’t have been more pumped to start reading your stuff and seeing, man, this guy could carry the mantle and you just put out fireman and you’re the type you’re like a foxhole guy who I would storm a beach of Normandy with because you you aren’t scared of Shawn Payeyton and I’m I’m scared that he’s even watching my little YouTube show. So, like, how do you do that, man? cuz the best moment in the whole year other than being nine and two was when he called you the wrong name and you corrected. Yeah, Sean, just wanted to go back um when you talked about the special teams issues and and you were saying, you know, yesterday we had to, you know, we have to get that cleaned up or we’ll find someone else that that can do it. Are you referring to personnel there or are you referring to to coaching? You know, Evan, Evan, Evan, if you were paying attention, coaching is outstanding. All right, we’ll get that cleaned up. My point is if there’s 10 on the field and there’s supposed to be 11, all right, then that player that’s supposed to be out there, I’ll find someone else to do his job. Is that crystal clear? Yep. Yep. My name is Luca. Okay, perfect. Perfect. Like, where do you get that kind of confidence? That was amazing. Uh that’s not like that’s just I mean honestly you know I’ll I’ll I’ll say this like there’s no you know I think it’s it’s fun at some level like for folks to see but honestly like I’m just doing my job. Obviously, Seawn Peyton is is just doing his and my intent isn’t to to push the buttons or this or that. Like, you know, I’m at the end of the day, I’m just trying to get information and, you know, uh put out the best stuff that I can and the most interesting stuff for fans and ask questions that they want answered and and that concept. And I think at the end of the day, Shawn Payton understands that. And that was just, you know, uh, like that’s just kind of what you have to do in in these jobs. And, you know, I I wasn’t whatever the context was, like, you know, I I I obviously didn’t intend for that to be a a moment or anything. I was just, you know, hey, my name’s like Luka, you know. So, um, and that that, you know, that was really that that wasn’t anything big. That was just a um a funny little exchange I thought. And yeah, end of the day, like that’s, you know, we’re just we’re I’m just trying to to do my job the best I can and appreciate your your support and um everyone who who reads us and the Denver Post and and so um I mean like I I don’t think you know in this in this business like I’m not going to pretend that I even know football to one iota of the degree that Shawn Payeyton has in his back pocket. But I I feel, you know, we’re we’re supposed to as journalists like try and become experts in the thing that we’re covering. And so really every interaction or every question that I ask is in is in that vein of trying to learn more understand why or even when you know asking him about tempo or whatever it’s it’s it’s because hey you know this is seems to be a thing that’s working what’s what’s the thought process behind using it using it more you know so I’ll obviously keep asking questions and that sort of thing and there’s never I never any intention to to to make it anything but us doing our job. So that’s Yeah, man. That’s how it goes. Absolutely. And getting inside baseball like sports media wise, like you look at the Patriots who when they cratered that thing, it was like Bill Bich had zero accountability because he run all of that, you know, he never answered a question. And so, yeah, you’re definitely not trying to put Shawn Payeyton in that gotcha situation, but it is part of like, hey, explain this to us. And yeah, you’re asking all of the questions that us fans have, and that’s why your Twitter’s blown up and every everybody’s reading you in an era where people don’t read a ton of news anymore. So, uh, plug where people can go find you on Twitter and and read your stuff. Yeah. Well, appreciate that, Ben. you know, main thing if if you want to read our coverage, please subscribe to the Denver Post uh supports us. It supports our work. Um myself, Parker Gabriel, our columnist, Troy Rank and and Sean Keeler. Um, and yeah, if you want to follow along, I’m by Luke Evans on on Twitter and throw out some stories and film breakdowns and stuff and and uh yeah, just happy to to be here and, you know, anything that that anyone wants to know about, I’ll do my best to to try and answer. So, yes, sir. He’s Luca Evans, not Evan. and go follow him. And Evan’s fine.

  1. Early comment so hopefully you see this, I love the videos you post man I watch them during my drive every morning. I have a friend named Uzbek on YouTube who does reaction videos every week and I think it would be so amazing if you spoke with him in one of these videos

  2. Dude you want to talk shit about Moss with you the 2 DPI's one was a good call
The other one was BS. Then you have 25 pulling on Franklin's hip preventing Franklin from reaching out to get that ball. That was a very catchable pass too

  3. Great job Luca, i'll check you out
You have a measured approach, and you're coming from the right place, best of luck in the future
Great video! Let's all take a deep breath and get ready for the road ahead
    Broncos Country Unite!

  4. I'm from the Netherlands and stumbled upon your channel while looking for a fun Broncos community. I really enjoy the show and your enthusiasm!

Because we have ESPN here, I recently got back into football after watching some college football in the early '90s.

I chose to support the Broncos for two reasons: I know some very friendly people from Colorado, and they play in our national color (orange!). My timing couldn't have been better.
    A great team!

    Go Broncos! 🧡🇳🇱"

  5. Hi Ben this is Sean, I watch your show all the time. I need you to get more excited about the Broncos. You seen so tame. FIRE up!

JK I love your show. I live in Ohio, but I have been a Broncos fan since 1965/66. I moved to Ohio in 2023 and can not wait to get back to Colorado Springs. I BOlieve in the Broncos and I DO believe we got a legit shot at the SuperBowl. Go Broncos!!!!

  6. I love the Broncos and I mean no disrespect they are doing great and being 9 & 2 is awesome. The rest of the upcoming opponents are preparing for the Broncos. The Broncos need to continue to improve as well because the team is not as good as they have in potential. Go Broncos 🎉

  7. Ben thanks for being so awesome, I've watched every single one of your videos you've uploaded from start-to-finish since the Jets game in 2024 😂. Keep up the amazing work and as always GO BRONCOS!!!

  8. OMG untie your headphones. No, I'm not OCD. Not at all. Not even a little. It just bugs the shit out of me looking at that because I'm a perfectly normal human being who is definitely not OCD.

  9. It's not really about no-huddle specifically, but just getting to the line with enough time on the play clock that Bo can read what the defense is doing and have time to make adjustments if needed. When Sean gets the play in late all the time and they are going to the line with 5 seconds left, Bo basically just has to get the play off and hope it works. It also gives the defense an advantage because they know it can't be a slow count. It's a dumb way to play football and I am glad to see at least some effort being made to fix it.

  10. What a banger of a video from our favorite YouTube creator, Ben! Great interview, brother!! Love reading what Luca puts out!! That was so good that he corrected Sean on what his name and what a memorable thing to have!! Love what you are doing, Luca, and wish you the best!! Thank you for all the hard work you do on here and for especially just being yourself on here, even through all the noise of the haters out there! Always praying for Sarah and your family, Ben!!

  11. Bo Nix's "struggles" are actually a boon this year. Bo has shown that he can run any play in the book that Sean puts out there regardless of his comfort level, and avoid costly mistakes and WIN GAMES. They beat both SB teams without losing a game between. We have had a different plan for every team we've played, and bo has won every game in 8 straight every which way from Sunday (including best offense and best defense). the defense WILL put you in a bind, and you have no idea what to expect. you can't blitz bo, and he doesn't play by the book. Watcha gonna do?
