“We Outworked Them” | Tage Thompson After 9-3 Win Over Chicago Blackhawks | Buffalo Sabres

Thanks, Brian. Ta, you were very honest after the last game. Everything was different tonight. What what went well and what went wrong? Uh, I thought it was a a great response. Um, obviously we weren’t happy um with our game. It’s pretty obvious. Um, and I thought we had a great response. Um, you know, we just outworked them honestly. Obviously, they uh they’re coming in off a back to back. We made it a tough game for them all night. Um, thought we won puck battles. um strong on pucks and uh we got to the net. So obviously um great effort all around and that’s what it takes. It takes everyone pulling the rope the same way. So um I thought all around great group of three. What do you attribute the top line’s productivity to tonight? So same things I just said there is just um keeping things simple. Um I’d say work ethic. I thought we were hounding pucks um on the four check. I thought our our D zone was great, which which led to a lot of offense for us uh off the rush and um you know, I think uh great middle lane drive on entries, which opened up a lot of space once we we entered the blue line there. So, able to establish ozone and um you know, tire him out. In the Edmonton game, you got a huge save by Ellis right off the bat. In this game, when it was still 000, they got a breakaway. Look at him makes a huge save there. How big is that save right off the bat to be be able to do that and get you guys going? Yeah, it’s huge. Um I think honestly those game I don’t want to speak for goalies but I feel like um you know when your team has control of the game and you’re not facing many shots feel like those are almost tougher to stay locked in um you don’t get into the rhythm as much um as a goalie seeing as many shots you know um so I thought he was was great all night um you know when when he had to make big saves for us he made big saves and um kept the momentum in our favor so um those are difference makers in a game you know they score one of those maybe we get on our heels a little bit but um you know big big uh big saves at key times in the game from from him. How impactful is Zuckerberg both on the ice and in the room here to have him back? Yeah, it’s great. Um, he’s an awesome guy to have in the room. Obviously, uh, been around a little bit longer than most of the guys in here and he’s got some experience and um, good calming presence in in the locker room and then obviously backs it up with his play on the ice. So, um, definitely missed him and um, I think everyone’s excited that he was back and obviously makes an impact right away. Tage, your team created a lot of pressure and a lot of scoring chances down low against Chicago and Solder Blum. What really allowed that part of the game to flourish tonight for your team? I think just being strong on pucks. Um using the back of the net and um you know, I thought we were strong on on pucks below the goal line and u made plays to the slot. Um guys coming in finding those little spots to to get shots off and obviously we’re crashing that hard. um you do those things um you know on repeat they usually lead to success. How do you notice you guys handle this game you know to kind of handle it appropriately and get ready for Sunday? Yeah, I’d say the same same thing as uh you know last game, right? Like um I’ve been saying it a lot is you can’t get too high or low. Um obviously last game was uh you know not our greatest effort and we needed a response and you know Sunday we’re going to need a response from this game. you know, can’t uh sit here and feel too great about ourselves. Obviously, we’re not where we want to be in the standings and um you just got to take it one game at a time. So, you throw this game away and move on to the next and remember what what got you the success in this game. On your goal, the way you and Tuck, the way you combined on that, can you guys almost do that in your sleep that you guys are so familiar with you with each other? I mean, I think Tucky’s one of the best in the league at picking pucks off and um you know, causing turnovers. Um does it on that play, picks it out of the out of the air. Um Dr. able to gap up in time and I have a lot of speed driving wide there. So um good kick out by him and um fan on the shot a little bit but nice to get that one. We have Alex running after this one. Um yeah it’s great and it’s no surprise to anyone in this room. Um he’s a unbelievable hockey player. Uh really hard to play against. Um you know loved by everyone in the room. Uh great presence in here and it’s nice to see him getting rewarded offensively. Um, obviously that’s not his uh forte. I don’t think anyone would say, but he can rip the pill. And right now he’s hot, so um you for him just keep letting it fly. But I think um you know, away from the puck too, he’s been he’s been rock solid. He’s been one of our best defenseman if not our best uh defensively, just shutting plays down, closing plays out, being physical, boxing out. So um he’s been rock solid for us all year.
