Some additional useless facts (all since 2000):

  • No division has less than two different champions, but only the NL West has more than three (four different champions).

  • The AL Central has the T-least amount of different champions, the least amount of total championships, and the longest championship drought (2015).

  • The Yankees and Red Sox are the only championship winning teams to have won another championship after a division rival also won one. Four champions have won multiple unanswered by their division (Giants, Dodgers, Cardinals, Astros) and two champions have gone to another World Series after a division rival won a championship (Phillies, Dbacks).

  1. Four different teams winning it all in a decade shows how deep and competitive the division is

  2. Sorry guys just a typo, I meant to say the NL East is the only division with more than 3 different champions. Can’t edit the post sadly lol

  3. I had to really dig through the dust and the cobwebs of my mind to remember the Angels championship during the moneyball season

  4. Obligatory pedantry only because it gets to knock one of those Yankees wins off:

    2000 was the 20th Century.

  5. Not me looking at the DBacks and thinking “Wait they lost in ‘23 though…” Being born in 2000 will make you forget 2001 sometimes.

  6. The Yankees only have one championship this century. The 21st century started January 1st, 2001.

  7. With those NL West logos arranged in such a way, it’s hard not to see “ASSS LA LA LA”

  8. Aussie relatively new to MLB here, why do people hate the Astros? Looking at this they’ve only won two world series recently. Doesn’t seem like much, what gives?

  9. >only the NL West has more than three (four different champions).

Not to be pedantic, but I think you meant NL East?

Otherwise nice post. I appreciate a visualization of it.

  10. braves: IS THIS HAPPENING? IT IS!

Phillies: THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES ARE 2008 CHAMPIONS OF BASEBAL

Nats: SWING AND A MISS! A world series game 7 winning curly W is in the books!

Marlins:…..and the marlins win the world series….

    Mets:

  11. I still can’t believe the Red Sox have four in the last 25 years it’s like a bad dream.

  12. <long sigh……..> Lets Go Mets.

The Mets, Tigers, and Rays are the only teams to have been in the Series twice in the century without winning one.

  13. The most unbelievable thing about this is Angels winning the WS. I had to double check it actually happened

  14. >No division has less than two different champions, but only the NL West has more than three (four different champions)

    NL East?

  15. Me earnestly to a young person; no for real i watched the Marlins, White Sox, and Royals all win rings

  16. East Coast still has the advantage ten championships to seven on the West Coast. Nine teams are on neither coast. So the west coast actually has the fewest champions of each geographic region.

(I don’t count Houston as east coast nor Arizona as west coast in this discussion)

  17. I think this is just a way to show how bad the Mets have been. Everyone this century in the NL East has been a world champion except for the Orange and Blue.
