Postgame Reaction vs New Jersey | 11.20.25
perform defensively. Yeah, the team was uh was great. Obviously, you’re not going to have a shut out without your teammates in front of you. So, it’s uh yeah, it’s they they they uh did a great job in front offensively and defensively. Obviously, Jack gets his NHL debut, Petri gets his ceremony for thousand games. How much can you guys just kind of get a little extra energy when you have moments like that even before the game even starts? Yeah, that’s that’s great. Uh that’s great. You know, it’s it’s it’s a big day for the uh for the young guy to come in. you know, he have opportunity to make his NHL career and they dep on the other side. He played thousand games already. It’s a huge achievement. So, we’re it’s it’s a big day and we’re happy with the win for them, too. Sergey, on Monday, you only faced 15 shots and five pass today. 30 shots, seven high danger, and you stopped them all. Did you feel more comfortable tonight, maybe seeing more pucks and having the puck in your zone more? It’s you know it’s it’s a it’s every game is a different game you know sometimes you have a different shots you know you face a different shots different different teams so I I I felt comfortable the last game too you know I I didn’t feel uncomfortable I was there I was focused they they scored good goals you know they scored five but they scored good go good good goals it’s it was back door top end you know they they made a good play and I give credit for to to them for for those goals and tonight I had I I felt great too so I uh I played my game. I was focused and I tried to to help the guys as much as I could. Bob, what does it say about this group? It doesn’t matter who’s hurt, who’s in the lineup, who’s not in the lineup. You guys have a standard and you play to that standard and more often than not, you you get you get the result you want. What does that say about just about this group? Yeah, we have a we have a good structure you know that we can rely on and uh the guys are comes in you know the uh the veteran guys they play bigger role you know Ly play bigger role Rhino he’s been unbelievable for us you know Marchie so the the veteran guys stepped up and the young guys they just bring their energy and uh rely on the structure and do simple things to uh to support the veterans you know and uh that’s how we able to chip it away. Thanks. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, it was special. Um, surreal. Um, just so thankful for everyone who helped me get to this point. God, my family, these guys. Um, it was crazy how loud it was in that building and uh could have asked for a better first game. Everyone has a a different memory that they take away from the lab. What What What would those 45 seconds or whatever be? Yeah, remember those. Yeah, I think probably missing that. So, probably that’s the first one. But I think the guys in the hallway were awesome. just they just told me to take it all in, enjoy it. I had some family on the glass. So, being able to see them, my mom was pretty happy. Had a big smile on her face. So, um was that was really cool and I’m just thankful that they were able to fly in and the Panthers were able to make that happen. Look like you were kind of really flying in there in the second period. How much more comfortable did you get as the game went on? Yeah, I think the first period you’re just kind of taking it all in, trying to trying to pinch yourself on the bench and kind of realize like, wow, I’m really here. But then you settle in. At the end of the day, it’s a hockey game and you want to go out there and help the team win. and um just kind of as the game went on, I thought I was more comfortable and try to kind of show uh what I can bring out there. On the win, what was like to be in a winning NHL locker room for the first time with these guys? Yeah, it’s super cool. Everyone was super happy in here. Obviously, Bob played unbelievable and we had some other guys like Jeff have a thousand games. I think Greg’s had 300. So, it was pretty cool night and glad they were able to bring me on board and uh share that moment with them. Did your folks make it to town? Yeah. Yeah, they were able to fly in um this morning. And so I was able to see him quick at the hotel and then uh I think they’ll be pretty excited to see me later on tonight. Your line was creating a lot of chances in your ice time tonight. Did you feel like you guys were clicking pretty well? Yeah, I think CS and uh Gregs did a great job kind of getting me on board there both offensively and defensively. And I think for them they just said soak it all in and then when you’re out there talk a lot of communication. I think for us we’re just trying to bring a lot of energy and uh just kind of get shots on the net. Was there a lot of talk on the bench tonight or were you pretty much just kind of going with the flow? Yeah, I mean I’m not really sure how much there is on a usual night, but I thought thought for the team there’s a lot of communication and the guys did a great job. Uh um if someone’s going to about to get hit, let them know or if they had time or space out there. Thanks. Thanks everyone. I think we were pretty good on the puck pedals and we were pretty fast playing fast hockey and our legs were moving. So uh that was the start starting point and uh Bobby did the rest. So it was it was great. Yeah. What can you say your goalender’s effort especially late in the third there with the Devil’s late push? Yeah, he’s our backbone. Uh like those saves at the last minute like uh uh those are huge and gave us a two points and uh we take it and thanks to thanks to Bobby. Yeah. Five on five for a long time and suddenly two PKs there at the end of second period. How did you like how you guys responded on those kills? Yeah, I I felt like the PK was pretty good today. We were on our on our toes and yeah like uh it was good cuz wins and four the last five. Do you feel like you guys are getting into that that rhythm here you guys are looking for? Yeah, I think so. Uh I don’t think we loved our last game start and but we ended well and and I think the today was pretty good game for us. What does it say about the the one wins or the eight wins? Which ones are more fun? Uh sometimes the one nothing is pretty good for the D but like in the other hand we haven’t scored that many goals this year so I take both. It doesn’t matter. I just only thing what matters is the wins. What does it say about your team that you guys continue to have injuries and guys popping out of the lineup but we continue to pick up wins and guys step up. They get called into the lineup. It’s pretty awesome the depth that you guys have been showing. Yeah, it’s huge huge for us and yeah, like the new guys coming up and today also we got a new new guy on the lineup and I think he played great and yeah, it’s good to see like it’s good to see like how deep our team is and like yeah, we need those guys when the guys are like falling off. Everyone dreams of playing games and like watching Petri get his ceremony tonight. Oh, it’s awesome. Like such a great player. uh great career this far and like uh hopefully many more years for him and many more games and like yeah congrats to him and like happy for him. Thank you. Their second period I thought um great energy, great speed, some things we’ve been working on we could see. And then Sergey in the third for sure I thought we came off it. Uh I you understand it nobody you’re in a tight game and we’re fighting for wins and uh a little tight there I thought in the third but came out fine kind of even game. We missed the net a lot in the first period and that was the difference in the shots and then our second period was very very strong. What did you make of Jack? Good. you know, he was where he was supposed to be and had a good sense like I thought he showed a little confidence even the first his first play right as a turnover in the neutral zone which was kind of funny sort of um but that he there was a play to be made there. He was trying to make the play and then he picked the puck up and made a nice outlet pass for a chance almost on his first shift and then so I thought he had a good balance between, you know, there’s a lot of pressure on you. It’s not just you want to perform for yourself. There’s all these 19 other guys on the bench that have played here a while that you want to you want to perform for those guys. But I like their line. I thought their line in the second period gave us that four fourline rotation that allowed us to be pretty aggressive. Talk about needing wins. That’s wins and four your last five. I like that your team has just kind of found ways to win differently in all these. Yeah, I I think that’s going to be the styles of the other teams are more pronounced right now against us. So, you notice the different styles they play because we can’t really kind of impose our will on them. So, we have to adapt and but a pretty good job with that. Sergey Babroski with a big bounceback game tonight. What did you think of his performance? Kind of feel that, don’t you? I think that’s been a bit of a story of the career and certainly for number one goalenders. If if you didn’t if you didn’t like one of Sergey’s games, you’re pretty sure you’re going to like the next one, right? He was right on tonight, right? And clean with everything they did. There’s a lot of danger that you’ll, you know, we’ll watch that game on video and and you’ll be really impressed with the the little deflections to have the wonderful hands on that team and uh he made some great saves. How do you to go back to Jack for a second? How do you convince a kid that in a room with like seven future Hall of Famers and yeah, you this really belong here. How do you calm him down or can you No, you don’t want to, right? Take it all in today. That’s what today is all about. First of all, he’s a champion at his level. He’s won. So, he understands that that uh all of the things and that’s his expectation is to be on a winning team. I think they’re supposed to be nervous. I think I think you’re So that you tell you get to five years from now tell the kid it’s getting his first game. Don’t worry about it. I was real nervous, too. And that’s how this whole thing works. I I thought he handled that part really well. He didn’t look at there’s a huge speed adjustment here. And this was a somewhat chaotic game. Not because of undisiplined routes, but both teams were knocking a lot of pucks out of the air. So, you’re moving one way. You know where you’re supposed to go. It gets knocked down. Things get shut down. It was a quick game for him to come in and play. I think every rep he gets, every game he gets, you’ll see the pattern start to emerge and he’ll move a little bit quicker. But I was I liked his line. So that’s the exciting part. It’s good to be at home and get a little more control about who they play against. But they won their game. Is it also kind of fitting that on night when Jeff gets that very nice ceremony that it’s the defense that has to win? Yeah, right on. I thought that our swingings and our lane closures on the way up the ice were as good as they’ve been all year. I thought for sure he was scoring the first goal, right? Did anybody else notice that? Like on the video, all the goals, he was he scored the first, you could hear the announcer. It’s the first goal of the game. I thought for sure he’s scoring first goal. Kind of let us down a little bit. Couple big PJs tonight as the penalty kill continues to play well for you guys. Yeah, we’ve had one off night with it. Um, and then probably from the Vegas game on, much like our power play, we’ve got some pairs that are going together now and and been really good. But again, it’s driven by the back end. Those those big fellas back there cover a lot of ice. Those big guys like Mika that first PK, I think he was out there for a minute and a half, got a couple players there. Just his effort and getting across the ice to the boards this and and closing the gap. And I thought that that’s the best I’ve seen Seth Jones move across ice and close kills plays. and that’s true of his last game. Those top four guys were the drivers. How do you assess where you are when you’re missing so many guys and you know this team’s going to look very different in a few months. How how do you sort of assess? Well, we got something really important that we’re trying to there’s two two things. One, we’re trying to add something to our game. We’re trying to create a and I thought the second period to give you an idea of what we’re trying to do more speed on the offensive part of our game. The second thing is we got to learn how to win games without our best players because if you get to the playoffs and you lose a guy, that can’t be the end of your season. I’d like to think with what we’re going through now is teaching us if a guy goes down. We have to adjust or adapt to another team, we know how to do that. Reinhardt just getting the first goal and the only goal just will give you guys so you can get to your game. I think I’ve seen that one against Edmonton. Isn’t that under the stick bar? Like it’s just so quick because I think his shots really underrated. He missed the net five times after two, but none of them were like I would have missed the net. you know, bury your head and shoot it as hard as you can and you miss it by five feet. He was putting it somewhere and just missed on it. So, he’s incredible shot. Really good uh release on that. So, not surprised. Thank you. Okay. Thank you.

Such a great set of insights on Jack. He's won at his level and he expects to win, and you can't want or expect him to be anything but excited and energetic. Such a great coach.
