I’d like to see Joe play him more. A LOT more. His defensive chops are already very impressive but to be better on offense he has to be playing a lot more.

Drafted him in the first round when we could’ve very easily gotten more frontcourt depth via a center or a PF, but he’s played single digit minutes in 4 of the last 5 games. Games like last night are the perfect time to play him more.

Thoughts? Complaints? Compliments?

  1. Yeah he should play more, they talked about not wanting to send him down to Maine, but he needs the reps up here if you aren’t going to do that.

That being said, Baylor has honestly not been bad in his minutes. Joe has basically played without a rotation this year because they want all the young guys to play, but Hugo should see more minutes than he has

  2. Yes, I know it’s a bit of a cherry picked stat, but the baseline is Joe has to be playing him a lot more.

  3. +/- is a terrible stat. It’s way too dependent on outside factors to be an accurate metric of a single players success or ability. Especially when using it for 5 mins in one game.

  4. Zero, and I mean zero reason he shouldn’t be getting 15-20 minutes a night

Like Pritchard and simons played 33 and 34 minutes, could we not have Pritchard playing 30 and simons playing 25-30 and get Hugo up to 15?

My biggest gripe with Joe this year is how poorly I feel like he’s managing the rotations, we can’t get to a point where any of the young promising guys can *actually* break out like we fucking NEED them to because one game they’ll go from starting to DNPs the next, or somewhere I between

I hope Brad simplifies the equation for him and deals a couple guys by the deadline because we aren’t getting anything promising from the young guys this year if this is how he’s gonna manage minutes

  5. He’s literally coming back from a double ankle injury. There’s 82 games in a season. Once they prove to the vets that they tried, the young players will be playing major minutes. Thats how it always works.

  6. I’m actually okay with the small amount of play time. Not a fan personally and don’t think he’s very good at basketball.

  7. First thought is that 5 of that +12 came in the final minute when the game was already over.

Second thought is that the other 7 of that +12 came when MPJ, the only above average player on their roster, was on the bench and Zaire Williams was the one taking (and missing) shots for Brooklyn.

Third thought is that Hugo is 19 and working back from an ankle injury like a week ago.

Fourth thought is that 5 minutes was not the lowest on the team, because Chris Boucher and Xavier Tilman played 0 minutes.

Fifth thought is that the organization since Brad got here has a fucking fantastic record at developing players and by all accounts everyone in the org loves Hugo so I’m going to trust their judgment on what is best for him.

  8. Probably the most guaranteed to stay on our roster of the young forwards regardless so im not stressing his playing time quite yet.

  9. Eh, it’s fine. Ease him in. He’s the 15th youngest player in the league. No need to rush.
