MAJOR Saints News After The Bye Week: Michael Penix Jr. & Drake London INJURY UPDATES
It’s Falcons hate week. Who that nation? If you hate the Dirty Birds and you want the Saints to get a win in rivalry at the dome, smash the thumbs up icon and let’s go eat a W, baby. [Music] You’re watching Saints Now by Chat Sports. My name is Trizy Trace Gerard. Thank you so much for tuning into our AM news dump. We got some impactful injury news that has a huge, huge impact on the New Orleans Saints and some major updates that came during the bye-week for New Orleans. We got a big opportunity ahead for a lot of players and the coaching staff and this young team as a whole. Let’s start off with the injury news that has a massive impact on New Orleans. Two players left early versus the Panthers. Michael Pennix and Drake London. Both of these guys suffered injuries to their knees late in the game. Uh Michael Penn left in the third quarter. Drake London left late in the fourth quarter. Kurt Cousins filled in for Michael Penn and they lost in overtime to the Panthers after having a lead. Where have I heard the Falcons blowing a lead before? I don’t know. Maybe you’ve heard it once or twice. But we do have some breaking news. Woo! Woo! Woo! Couple of players. We have updates on Michael Penn and Drake London. Michael Pennix Jr. will be out for this game. In interesting notes for Michael Penn, he may actually be out for an extended period of time. Shfter reporting that he suffered a potentially seasonending knee injury during Sunday’s loss to the Panthers. Pennix will be seeking a second opinion, but it is not encouraging. So, what does this mean for the New Orleans Saints? Well, means Kurt Cousins is your starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. Now that Michael Pendix is missing time, Kurt Cousins, I guess it’s a good thing they’re paying him what, 40, 50, $60 million a year. A lot of money to be a backup quarterback. And unfortunately, it’s not like they’re paying him a lot of money to be good. He hasn’t been great. Uh, three games played thus far this season. He’s very clearly not the player that they signed him to be. He’s very obviously not the quarterback of the Vikings where he was going on playoff runs. His only start this season so far was in a loss to the Miami Dolphins. He went 21 of 31, 173 yards. Um, in total, he’s only thrown the ball 52 times, less than five yards per uh completion. He’s been sacked once, no touchdowns, no interceptions, and an abysmal QBR. Kurt Cousins is not great anymore. He is not a phenomenal quarterback. He is not somebody that puts fear in my eyes. And if I have the stat correct, I believe Kirk Cousins has only won one game at the Super Dome in the regular season, if I remember correctly, like I’m not going to sit here and say that Kirk Cousins is going to be a bum and you should, you know, this is going to be an easy win. It never is. It’s a rivalry game. But with Kurt Cousins being out or with Kurt Cousins starting due to Michael Penn being out, that is a significant break for this team because Kurt Cousins is not nearly as good in my opinion as Michael Penn. But we got more breaking news. Woo! Woo! Woo! Uh, Drake London suffered a PCL strain and is out this week and potentially more. The injury was initially not believed to be anything super severe. He got more tests today on Monday, November 17th, and those tests obviously came back like this. So, with Drake London now being out, I do think that this is a massive, massive, massive break for this Saints team. Drake London’s a dog. He is a very, very good wide receiver and he’s somebody that the New Orleans Saints could have a major problem. But now that Kurt Cousins and or excuse me, now that Michael Pennix Jr. and Drake London are out, this Falcons offense is so incredibly thin, there is not much firepower on it outside of Bejian Robinson. And personally, if Drake Linen was healthy, I would be more concerned about this game. But I’m really not that worried. You can’t overlook it. He can’t look past it. Falcons only have one more win. And Drake London playing good football, but he will not be available this week. 60 catches, 810 yards, six touchdowns. He has been really productive for the Falcons offense. And look, if he was healthy, I think that would actually be good news for Kurt Cousins because then he would have a reliable target to just fall back onto. You have a safety blanket in Drake London, Bejian Robinson, Kyle Pitts. You’d have the ability to do all of those things and work with those players. But you’re now missing Drake London. So the Falcons offense, we’re going to take a look at it in a minute. Yikes. Really quickly though, we got to tell you guys about today’s presenting sponsor, and that is Tushy the day. The holiday season is right around the corner and I know that you need to get your loved ones or your roommate a gift and get them a tushy bedet. Now, the Saints defense, in my opinion, they may feast against the Atlanta Falcons. I I I genuinely think that this is going to be one of those um games from the Saints defense where you’re like, “All right, here we are. Brandon Staley, way to go, man. This I really think that this defense has a good chance here.” Again, can’t overlook them. It’s a rivalry game. Everyone’s going to show up competitive. Yikes. You got to look at this offense. It’s not good. Um Kurt Cousins, Bejian, great. Love him. Darnell Mooney is all right. Casey Washington, who’s that? Kyle Pittz, waste of a first round pick in my opinion. And look, this is this the, you know, starting offense that you should expect this week for the Atlanta Falcons. But even when they’re fully healthy and they have their guys available, it’s not like they’re lighting up the scoreboard. It’s not like their offense is absolutely lethal. I mean, they move the ball well, but they can’t convert on third down. They struggle to score and they cannot maintain a lead. How many times have we seen the Atlanta Falcons blow leads? not just this year, but like forever. Like it just inevitably will happen. And for a lot of reasons, I think that there’s some players with big opportunities ahead for the New Orleans Saints specifically Tyler Shuck, Alvin Chimera, Jawan Johnson, Chris Olive. I mean, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Quincy Riley, Jonas Sinker, Deario, Cam Jordan, Chase Young. Those guys should have a huge, huge game in my personal opinion. And we’re going to talk about them here in a moment. But let’s sub for dubs. Sub for dubs. Sub for Dubs. If you believe in the F the Falcons mindset and you bleed black and gold no matter what, sub for Saints Dubs and let’s go catch a victory in uh rivalry week. Big opportunity. Like I said, uh you can get some mad mad brownie points for Kell Moore and Tyler Shuck if you’re going to win this weekend. And if Tyler Shuck plays well again like he did against Carolina, oh my goodness, the vibes could not be higher for the New Orleans Saints. You are coming off of back-to-back great games against divisional opponents, hopefully wins. You’re coming off of back-to-back great games for Tyler Shuck if you can have a big win and a big game from him. So, this is a great opportunity for not just Shuck, but Kell Moore, too, to get mad brownie points from the Hudat Nation, get a win at home, reignite the fan base, and get them to buy into this back half of the season. Keys to victory offensively, and then we’ll go to defense, and then we’re going to get into some score predictions. You got to protect Tyler Shuck. The Falcons are going to blitz at a very, very high rate. You need to keep him upright. The offensive line obviously looks a little different than it did week one. You traded away Trevor Penning. Eric McCoy is dealing with the season long injury and we don’t know whether or not Talis say Fuaga will be active. However, I think you can protect Tyler Shuck or if you can protect Tyler Shuck and he can show off some of that improvisational skills that he did against the Panthers and he can display that good footwork he’s been working on. Oh boy, I think that we’ll be fine. I mean, look at the blitz percentage through week 10. This was going into this week. Atlanta was number two in the National Football League. Like, like Atlanta’s going to rush the passer. They drafted James Pierce Jr. They traded up and spent away a first round pick to double down and add into their pass rush. They took Jaylen Walker, James Pierce Jr., so in my opinion, they’re going to be looking to rush the pass. It’s been an area where they have been bad throughout the last handful of years in their franchise, but they tried to improve this year. All that just for one more win. Get Alvin Camar in open space because you’re going to see a lot of blitzes and because you’re going to see a lot of pressure. Give the ball to AK on the screen. Crazy concept. It works. let him operate on the outside. And when it comes to the middle, give the ball to Devin Neil. Don’t force feed Taesm Hill. Force feed Deon Neil. He has a lot of tread on the tires. He is or he was ultra productive for the Kansas Jay-Hawks. And he’s somebody that I think needs to be a much bigger part of this offense. I’m not saying take Taesm Hill away from the equation. But I am saying don’t force feed Taesm Hill. If you’re going to force feed somebody, I would prefer that to be Devin Neil. Let’s get big play to have some highlight moments. I want to see a touchdown. I want to see another 100 yard game. He’s starting to stack some really good games. He the Saints and him are working on an extension. What better way to celebrate a win over a division rival and stacking multiple good games than inking an extension. Go and earn that this week, Chris Olive. I want to see number 12 have a huge day. And Jawan Johnson and Devon, they’re your big body pass catchers. They need to get involved as well. Now, defensively, get after Kirk Cousins. You need to pressure Kirk. Get after him. his best options to throw the football to. Can’t even remember his name. Darnell Mooney, Casey Washington, Kyle Pitts. Couldn’t remember Casey Washington’s name. Darnell Mooney, Casey Washington, Kyle Pitts, and then of course Bejon. But that that isn’t something that makes me scared. Limit Bejon. Don’t He’s going to break off a few. You just don’t let him have a huge game. Just limit him. Contain him. Try to do your best to stop him. And inevitably when you do let him have a few plays bust open, get it back, force a turnover, slow him down, contain him, hit him in the back field, and let’s prove that the Saints defense is starting to get to the place where they want to be. Get off the field on third down. That’s just plain and simple. Um, stop penalties, stop having broken coverage, stop missing sacks, stop letting the first down run happen because they just piled through a couple tackles. And I think if you force two turnovers, just two. I know that they may be a lot, but give me two turnovers. This is a win. No question about it. Now, predict the score for me in the comments section.
