This is EXACTLY what Spurs fans wanted to see…

This is exactly what Spurs fans wanted to see. Devin Facel playing an intricgral part to the San Antonio Spurs success this season. This is a guy who was talked about in the off season as possibly being a trade chip for many, many players. He was thrown in so many trade rumors and this year he is proving to be a valuable piece to the San Antonio Spurs and we are going to discuss it here on Spurs Digest with your host Keenan Warner. But first and foremost, guys, before we get in to all of that, I just wanted to say to this man here, congratulations on a phenomenal career. We’ll probably do this again one more time, the last game when he officially does retire. But Chris Paul said today that this is going to be his last season. And what a career that he had. But obviously he was a San Antonio Spur last year. So just wanted to give him his props while we have him. 16 points, nine assists a game, 47% from the floor, 37% from three, 12 time all-star. Easily future first BA Hall of Famer, 11time AllNBA, ninetime all defense. He did everything in the league but win an MVP and win a championship. And I just wanted to say to Chris Paul, he brought a level of professionalism and a level of teaching to the San Antonio Spurs last year. I think he was really a key part in helping the growth of Stfan Castle, the playmaker that you see as Stfan Castle today from Chris Paul. I think he really helped mold that. So, I just wanted to say thank you to Chris Paul. And I want to hear in the comments what’s your guys’ favorite Chris Paul moment. Maybe on the Spurs, off the Spurs, whatnot. But just let’s give a little bit of love to Chris Paul, a guy that we were able to house for on our roster for a year and a guy who wanted to play all games that we had were able to have him suit up for. But Devin Vel, the main portion of this video, Develouchable, but the Spurs can’t rule out a trade. Our boy is back. Weird. trade and Vel always seems to be synonymous. But despite being one of the most polarizing players for the San Antonio Spurs, Vel has quietly given them what they needed this season. And so far this year, Vel hasn’t been shooting the greatest from the floor, but shooting 36% from three, 14 points a game, four rebounds, three assists. He’s been a little bit streakier as of the last few games. He started the year off shooting well, but Vel though he has been a streakierish style shooter this year when it’s coming to percentage-wise, he has been giving a consistent option and a consistent threat from that three-point line, getting teams to respect him on the three-point line and making timely buckets when necessary. Obviously, right now we have dearen Fox who’s really heading the league or the lead for the San Antonio Spurs. Not the league, but the lead for the San Antonio Spurs offensively because he is our best creator. But Devin Vel outside of him and Kellen Johnson too, you would argue maybe those two if you wanted to. Vel’s probably our most consistent offensive player outside of De’Aran Fox at the moment healthy. So, it is nice to have a guy like that on the floor ready to participate. And defensively, though, he has had his moments always up and down throughout his career for the Spurs. I I from the eye test, he has been looking like he’s been giving effort and working hard defensively. With the lack of shooting the Spurs have had, the Spurs need him to regain his shooting form after a down year last season. Certainly drilling 36.2 to a touch different this the touch 36.2 on 6.3 attempts, 47 on his 2.4 mid-range shots per game. A welcome sign for the Spurs. He’s been shooting the mid-range ball at a pretty high clip. Better still, noticeably better defensively, increased activity. Spurs ranked fifth in defensive rating. His 10 plus.2 plus net rating is the highest on the team, highlighting just how effective he has been. And this is a guy last year coming in obviously he had the metatarsal fracture which kept him out into the early portion of the year. So it was a while for him to get in the rhythm and then obviously you have WBY in and out of the lineup. You get De’Aran Fox. So that’s a different look. And then WBY gets leaves the lineup. Then De’Aran Fox leaves the lineup and now it’s him, Chris Paul, Stfan Castle and really towards the back half of last season was where Devin Facel got going and I think he’s taken that into the beginning portion of this year. He has been again a little bit up and down at times, but overall I’ve liked the impact of Deon Vel and I think he’s given a consistency to this roster that we need. quietly made himself valuable for the Spurs, having himself a bounceback season. Obviously, as I talked about a little bit before, the Durant trade talks that he was in, but Vel’s been playing and keeping the 14th pick, which would be included in the deal for Carter Bryant has worked out for San Antonio. Think of that money Vel 14th. I really like where Carter Bryant is going to be heading for this team. I think he’s got such tremendous upside. And then we’ve got Devin Vel who has been playing well, reemerging as that two-way player, knocking down threes, scoring off pull-ups, defending. If Vel hadn’t shot the ball well to this point thus far, at least decent this season, we would have to think about moving off of him. like we we have to have that conversation of should we keep Devin Vel because if he is not offering the shooting punch that we need and he’s not playing the defense that we thought that he can play then what would be the purpose of having him on this roster and I think that there’s true purpose now he is truly a three and D kind of guy obviously he can do a little bit more offensively and he’s not just a specific defensive stopper but you really have him as that three and D kind of mold who can create a little bit off the bounce. But better still, he’s just one of three players on the team who have played every game this far. A big deal for Facel who has been riddled with injuries throughout his past. Having him in the starting lineup while Mitch Johnson is forced to shuffle players in and out, giving the Spurs some stability on both sides of the basketball. So overall, I want to hear what your guys’ thoughts are on Devin Vel and what you feel his play has been. give it a grade. Whether that is an A, B, C, D, F, whatever you want to give him for a grade, but give Devin Vel a grade for this season thus far. I would personally give him a solid B. I think that for what we’re expecting out of Devin Vel, he has been shooting the ball from the three-point line consistently enough at 36%. He also has been playing good defense. He has been quality on that side of the basketball. So overall, I like the way he plays. I like the fact that he’s on this team. If we have to move off of him at some point, it’s understood and we understand that because of how many guards we have on this roster. But currently, I do think that Devin Vel is not just taking away, but he is adding to this roster, especially with the health, because the health is the number one thing that we need right now. But that will do it here for Spurs Digest, guys. Make sure you hit that like, subscribe if you haven’t subscribed yet, cuz I know there are still too many of you guys that haven’t subscribed yet. But Devin Vel, let me know what you guys think about him in the comments. Chris Paul, give your favorite Chris Paul moment in the comments. Chris Paul, thank you for coming to the San Antonio Spurs and for blessing the league for such a long period of time. You’ve given the basketball, you’ve given the NBA a lot. So, we thank you for that. Spurs Digest thanks you for that. And guys, we’ll be seeing you guys again very

One of the unsung heroes for this San Antonio Spurs team this year is Devin Vassell. Vassell has been playing quality basketball for the Spurs, and Keenan Warner is here to discuss the impact of Vassell’s play on the Spurs’ season.

  1. I really like his game and he has had to make some pretty big adjustments. He will be fine if he can shoot a little bit better he will be super valuable. Id give him a b so far.

  2. Vassell has been really good on defense this year. Flying and blocking guys, especially since Wemby has been out he's been more locked down. His shooting is still a bit inconsistently, but teams know they can't leave him alone. His only problem is that his shot selection (interestingly like KJ a couple of years ago) is not optimal. He needs to realize if he catches the ball too low, or has space to go to the rim, he needs to make the right choice. You don't have to shoot every time you get a semi open three. If he can be more selective and realize its okay to reset the offense, give the ball to Fox/Wemby and try again that would help him a lot in having stats that match his play level

  3. Carter Bryant is the future 3&D star. He'll be better than Danny Green or Bruce Bowen.
But the limpy coach won't give him the PT minutes. Trade Vassell and had Carter those 20mpg. He'll be starting by the end of the season. Pop threw Parker into the fire. But wimpy Mitch has proved he is not worth to lick Pop's boots. Thanks, Pop, for hiring a pretend head coach who is wasting another year of Wemby.

  4. I've been a Vassell fan from year 1. I've never understood the hate on him. He was coming back from injury and everyone was expecting perfection. He's a versatile player, good shooter, good defender and he has heart. Im high on Devin Vassell and has always been valuable to me. B+ maybe A-

  5. Let's see on Monday the last game they had was easy… when they play Atlanta Trae wasn't there…
If they win i will shut my mouth.
    The Sun vs san anthonio

  6. B

Sometimes I wish that he's been more active on the court. His shot is a little bit streaky sometimes. But he is a good defender and Defenses has to respect him. So he helps to create space for Fox and Castle.

  7. Sorry but Vassel is inconsistent in défensive and offensive way… So he costs too much money to the Spurs. He must be trade with Sochan against a real good physical defender and shooter at post 3 or 4. That is what i think. Vassel is a good player only, but not a top player.

  8. I don’t, see nothing different from this year and last year. He has bad games this season as well. I don’t see what he doing, I’m not impressed. He should be averaging almost 20

  9. He's so overpaid.
Not good on D (of course way better than KJ or HB on D) Not consistent and scoring 13.7pts like a roleplayer.
    27M for a roleplayer…. soooooo overpaid.

  10. favorite spurs chris paul memory was when someone on the other team dove for a rebound and tried to throw it off chris paul’s leg, and then cp3 immediately reached down caught it and starting taking it up floor

  11. He's simply not good. His defense has been a welcome surprise. But his shooting is awful. He should be far more efficient than he is, with his role and hes not.
