So… What Do the Vikings Do with JJ McCarthy Now? (Still Have Faith…)

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? So, of course, Kevin McConnell, the quarterback whisperer, Jonathan James McCarthy, the highest drafted quarterback in team history, and head coach Kevin McConnell, general manager Quid Amensa. They passed on bringing back Darnold and Daniel Jones, not signing Aaron Rogers, not drafting Shador, and they put all their chips in the middle on number nine. Number nine, right? Uh, and you know, McCarthy has had some amazingly high moments where you think, okay, he’s the guy. He is the guy, you know, coming up clutch and, you know, getting big-time wins on the road, but then I don’t know, last couple weeks just has not been good, right? uh accuracy wise, trust, even though yes, he did have that that game go-ahead drive uh potentially game-winning drive against the Bears, but just the just the just lack of everything in the Packers game was just abysmal. 87 passing yards. He did complete 63.2% of his passes, so suck it losers. Two more picks. Yeah, you know, one was wasn’t on him, one certainly was. And you quarterback rating of 34.6, which is not good. Again, you get 39.6 throwing it straight into the ground. And you could say there there’s some nice throws in there. Absolutely. A couple nice hookups with Jefferson, but at a certain point, does Kevin Oonnell trust him or does he not? Right. And is he intentionally holding McCarthy back or is it the other way around? Right. And and I know all the haters and loser here. Oh, he’s a game manager in Michigan. This is a this is a this is a continuation, right? But at a certain point, even the the rosiest and purple pontificators among us are just it’s hard to deny that statistically he and Christian Ponder are eerily similar at this point. Where is McCarthy just a strong armed Christian Ponder? I don’t believe so. But also at a certain point, it is what it is, right? And this Vikings offense has become not even borderline unwatchable, completely unwatchable. Now, I am all for giving JJ McCarthy time to develop and become that guy. But we have to, and I understand success is not linear. You’re going to have some ups, you’re gonna have some downs, but when there’s a lot of downs. Yeah. And also at at a certain point too is is McCarthy playing and if he continues to play bad and he gets shelled and he lose confidence is that actually worse than benching him right because you know the topic right now I’m sure the topic for the rest of the season is going to be Max Bromer the bros show you trust him to be quarterback two why not trust him to be quarterback one where hallmark of Brosner’s game is that quick release accurate. Get rid of the football, right? And all the, you know, Trey Lance, uh, as well as, uh, Brock Pury comparisons are there. And I’ll say this, I wouldn’t make the move, but knowing Kevin Oonnell, if Carson Wentz was healthy, I feel like Carson Wentz would start Sunday against Seattle, right? Because you’re going up there against one of the best defenses in the National Football League. Of course, the Sam Darl narratives are going to be there as well. And you know, if McCarthy goes up there, looks bad, gets shelled, gets sacks five times again, throws another two picks, is that good or bad for him long term? Because I feel like yes, there are going to be growing pains, but at a certain point, there’s just damage to the psyche that some quarterbacks never recover from. I mean, look at David Carr when he was a number one overall pick with the Texans, right? And David Carr certainly did not have the weapons that JJ McCarthy has. And look look at the Cam Ward and the Titans right now. And Cam Ward, you you see sparks of of things and he’s surrounded by an XFL team. And McCarthy, you know, God love him. Like he’s had some great moments, but as of late, it’s been really tough. And the offensive line, well, the offensive line is good the first half. Yeah. Uh but the weapons aren’t being utilized and it’s just this entire team is inert right now as we’re waiting on the progression of JJ McCarthy but also the consistency right and we’re just hoping that we see that at at a certain point because I don’t know the Viking season they’re four and seven and they’re at Seattle they’re sort of aspiring a little bit and like we said of course McCarthy’s had fantastic moments All right. And it’s not all on him. Like, it’s not JJ McCarthy’s fault that Miles Price has been screwing up on special teams. It’s not his fault that the defense uh can’t get off the field at times. It’s not his fault that, you know, Carson Wentz went two or three as a starter uh when he was in, right? But like we said, at at a certain point, you have to show some flashes. You have to see some market improvement. You have to see that trust grow and show. And right now, the Vikings are just in a three-game just stagnant pool just right now. And I don’t think that the answer is starting bro show because you know Bros are still a UDFA rookie as well, right? And if he comes in and struggles then what do you do? Do you go back to McCarthy? Um I don’t know. I don’t know. Like you trust the quarterback Whisper and a dude with so much talent to work things out, but a lot of the mechanical stuff that’s probably going to have to be worked on the offseason. you know, it’s really hard to do on the fly in season, but just give us something, you know, and at a certain point, just let him play you where he’s great two-minute drill where he doesn’t think, just does, right? But is it a spot where Kevin’s over coaching him? Try and turn into a player he’s not at a certain point, just let him play and let the chips fall where they may. And maybe he’s not the guy. Showing some flashes that maybe he could be the guy, right? Still have faith that he is going to be the guy because of all the damn weapons as well as Kevin McConnell, the quarterback whisperer. But right now, the Vikings pit a slick patch, right? And you got to have faith. When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high as Liverpool loses at home three nothing. But I digress. Anyways, your thoughts are thoughts. What do you do with J? Oh, hold on. So, so my take, you just ride out the rest of the season with him, right? Next six games, you find out win, lose, or draw if you have your quarterback or not. Now, playoffs, playoffs. Yeah, playoffs will be great, but mathematically the Vikings may have been eliminated at this point, depending on the rest of the action from today. But see what you have. All right, these next six games will give you a 12ame sample size. Certainly not enough, but it will give you an idea of what you need to do. And if you want to play Brosmer, plays Brosmer. Go ahead. Let’s see also see what we got uh in in that spot. And as several people point out, like young quarterbacks have gotten benched before and they’ve come back stronger. I feel like McCarthy does have that mental makeup where he could do that, where it won’t just instantly crush him to be riding some pine, right? So, also, you know, do you bring Carson Wentz back? Do you find another veteran quarterback Dour? Do they trade for freaking M. Jones? Don’t know. Don’t know. But the season is far from lost. And as we said, the Vikings do have this three-year Super Bowl window where the Vikings can spend. Oh, but they’re 40 million over the cap. The Vikings will be able to be under the cap. The Vikings will be able to keep the guys that they actually want, not Hawinson. Uh, and they’ll be able to be players of free agency because almost like that was the plan. But at a certain point, we got to start seeing something, man. Right. We’ve been your biggest supporters. We’re still in your corner. But it’s like that line from 30 Rock when when Jack is talking to uh Julianne Moore. You they’re former lovers from uh from Boston from Baston. I’ll wait. Not forever. All it comes down to. We are extremely patient because the Vikings deserve their own homegrown future franchise quarterback. But at a certain point, come on. Anyways, your thoughts, our thoughts, let us know comment section. You guys are the best you have to do. Skull production value.

  1. Here’s the thing- JJ was originally viewed as a raw developmental QB to draft in the mid rounds. If that were the case, FO would’ve brought back Sam and kept JJ as a long term project to develop. All sides would’ve been better off if that happened imo. It’s just hard to justify doing that when you draft a guy at QB in the early first. Unfortunate.

  2. This is the problem with having an inexperienced general manager. The Vikings came into this season, loaded with talent, except for the most important position QB. They had options but chose to go with an unproven quarterback with zero professional experience. That’s ignorance, and every fan knows it.

  3. Sanders and JJ both have bad stats. But at least Shedeur kinda passed the eye test this week.

JJ consisyently FAILS not just the stats/advanced metrics but also the eye test.

  4. All u Vikings delusional fans.. Bryce Young was in the same spot last year. He was so bad he was benched early in the season last year. He finished the season strong. He is playing well this season and he is coming off of a 450 yard passing game and win vs Atlanta. He might just be the franchise QB for Carolina and he is in his 3rd year. Sometimes it takes time and just clicks. Most panthers fans wanted to get rid of Young last season as he was the #1 overall pick in 2023.

  5. Don't even wait for the season to end cut 9 immediately. There is nothing to work with trying to develop a QB. 9 has no speed or toughness can't even convert him to another position, he has no value. Arm strength – No, mobility – no, vision and understanding the game – no and no, attitude – yes broken bizarre attitude. Normally watching Vikings lose is fun but 9 makes it painful to watch, how can any NFL team look at that and think there is anything to build?

  6. Im looking at the draft and dante moore looks pretty good. Man if we could trade with the titans….and get him…… this team with a good qb would be 🔥

  7. no worries. JJM is a winner! He's won at every level. He will win the next 6 games. He will rah rah and cheer his teammates to victory! He will make CC eat his words. He will play at least average for at least 3 minutes (not 1)! If he takes anymore sacks at midfield. No worries, Reichard will keep on kicking 55 plus field goals no problem

  8. If JJ ain't the guy, you gotta start firing people starting with Kwesi. I can give KOC a couple more years, but the people in charge of the draft (Gm and front office) have to go. You cannot build a team drafting like this.

  9. Look at the other Quarterbacks in the league that kind of sucked there first year now all they are doing is out performing. Give him til the end of the year. As long as he doesn't get hurt.

  10. At the end of the day Rookie QB stuff is one thing, but this dude is far and away is, statistically, the worst quarterback in the league. This is far more concerning than just 'rookie QB suckiness'

  11. Some even compare him to Tavarius jackson. Look how that panned out. Still early for him. But some QB's just have the "IT" factor from jump street. Which he did in college but i worry his time out may have altered his momentum possibly even unrepairable.. We will have to wait n' see but if Brosmer played the rest of the season and McCarthy sat number 2 for the remainder of this season i honestly wouldnt be mad at this point. The other phases aren't going to give their all without leadership and a QB worth his salt. This team may look way different with the bro show at the helm. But too much time and pride is involved. Its just the nature of the beast! Lets hope Darnold doesnt smoke us too!! Ughh Rant sorry!! SKOL!!!!

  12. I thought McCarthy was a mobile QB. When we lost the left side of our offense line we should shifted to right side sweeps. Why keep McCarthy standing in the middle of a 50% strength offensive front line in crunch time. And back to last week. You make a first down with 40 yards to go for a winning TD with 54 seconds to go and 3 time outs left and you don’t call a running play to run some time off the clock? Instead you then score a game winning TD in the next 13 seconds. Giving our enemy 40 seconds to snatch victory from our very hands. You then have a kicker who has kicked 2, 62 yard FG’s, kick a 60 yard kick off allowing a 50 yard return. How is McCarthy responsible for any of that?
