As a certified Hynes hater, I have to admit, this humble pie is necessary

On the other hand, I feel like it was my shit talking that finally made Hynes turn the corner.
Hynes hasn’t earned the apology yet. He has 3/4 of the season left to earn it.
I remember just before this streak started, Russo responded to a tweet that was along the lines of
>I don’t necessarily think Hynes deserves to be fired but you might have to because something needs to change
And he responded
>That change can be Gus making a save and Kirill passing it to his teammates instead of opponents
When your goaltenders are playing lights out, every coach looks like a genius.
Was fan reaction to October over the top? Maybe. Let’s not play the pendulum. There was Jack Adams talk for Hynes in December of last season and eventually they made the playoffs on the last day of the season.
Even when I said I wanted him gone, I also qualified it that he deserved until the end of the postseason. Can they win a round? If they can’t, the Wild can’t run it back with Hynes, Zuccarello, and Johansson and think
For the record.. I stayed positive about Hynes this entire time and said that he at least deserves till the 20 game mark to show us something when we were 3-7-3 or whatever it was. I even feel bad that you doomers even made me say that. This team had been giving it their all the entire time, but shit just wasn’t lining up.
The thing that makes me not be a hater is I have no idea who you’d ever bring in and think they’d make it all work
Starting to believe in Lord Voldemort again.
Get back to me when the habitual first round exits stop and we see some actual post season success. MN teams have a lot of regular season success, come post season is when they aim the barrel to the foot.
Hynes has next to nothing to do with this run. He also had next to nothing to do with the early season struggles other than pulling Buium off PP1 and leaving Yurov in the press box to rot.
I hate that scab. However, it was worth it to not make any major changes.
I didn’t realize he was about to get .960 goaltending for three weeks.
This year has been an absolute weird one. No team is truly ‘out’ of it as of yet. Injuries have piled up and it affects every team. But for all the crying, insanity, and yes DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! (myself included here and there), I never saw it as so dire that the Wild couldn’t fight back. I didn’t expect 9-1-1 obviously, but the team chose playing to its strengths rather than chasing pretty goals and stupid play.
The Wild win when they play like last night: you’ll see mistakes and sloppy play, but it’s almost meant to be. They clog the neutral zone and clean up in front of the net so the goaltenders and defensemen only need to do so much. They didn’t dominate offensively, but got the 2-3 plays they needed and those plays worked. Everyone deciding to play physically and gum up the other team despite sometimes their own awkward plays leads to chances that they pounced on. And yes, Wally and Gus playing like monsters helps too.
