  1. Yes please, for every sport. It’s so redic that we are bombarded by all these ads and the worst are the “fans” who start trashing / begging players for their parlay results

  2. I think gambling should be treated the same as tobacco products and alcohol. Advertisements shouldn’t be allowed and warnings about addiction should be posted on every casino door/online gambling lobby when you enter.

  3. Absolutely. It’s over the top. It targets late teens and those just entering adulthood – promising them quick wins and all sorts of false promises.

It’s setting us up for a whole generation’s worth of gambling addiction.

    It needs to stop.

  4. They are literally pulling up the betting odds and talking about them between whistles, at least on the chicago broadcasts. It’s so disgusting. Unfortunately they’re making too much money converting fans to gambling addicts for anything to be done about it. I really hope something is done but I’m not holding my breath…

  5. I recall back when sports betting became legal that the bombardment of gambling ads was done in the expectation that government would quickly ban advertising. They needed to stake their claim to name recognition while they could. Embarrassingly, it’s taken this long to get the ball rolling on banning advertising.

  6. I gave up watching the NHL because of it. They talk about Hockey for the new generation and fill the space with a gambling ad every 20 seconds

  7. I remember when Ontario legalized betting Ads in like 2021-2022 ish. One day it was nothing the next it was like every other add you saw was for a sports or online casino betting service its insane now.

  8. I’m all for banning these ads, but the reason it won’t happen is that it’d create a double standard with the provincial governments’ own ads for lottery products. If those ads didn’t drive sales they wouldn’t buy them, but they do buy them because they drive sales. The segments they target are no less vulnerable.

So how does the (federal) government draw up a bill that doesn’t reek of hypocrisy?

  9. But let’s think of the real victims in all of this. A and B-list celebrities are going to have to get acting roles again and that just doesn’t feel fair.

  10. Completely agree. Great on the Senators for initializing this

Absolutely disgusting what has become of advertising gambling… disgusting

  11. I don’t go to hockey games in person very often, maybe 2-3 times a season, but the one game I’ve gone to this season and the couple last season I had a person in front of me there with their kids and the parents are always throughout the game pulling out their phone and checking draft kings or whatever other sports betting app. A few times I’ve even seen the parents start getting frustrated if their bet is going poorly. Dude, you’re at a game with your kid(s). The reason I got into hockey was going to games with my dad as a kid. But if my dad was sitting on his phone checking bets the whole time I probably wouldn’t care for it at all. It’s downright insane how prevalent not just the ads are, but how many people do it and let it ruin their enjoyment of the game or time with their kids.

  12. Im pretty tired of explaining what this is to my 7yr during any sports event. Not aomething that should be happening.
