WE’RE GETTING CLOSE! New York Jets Vs Baltimore Ravens RECAP & REACTION

Man, so the Jets lose to the Baltimore Ravens 23-10. This was expected, right? If you look at, you know, what was the line coming in like uh the Jets were 13 and 12 or 14 and 1.5 point dogs. This was the expected outcome. But with that said, man, we are getting close. We are getting close to where we want to be. This is the first time I I think I’ve said this all year, but the score tonight today did not reflect how the Jets played. I I felt like for, you know, the the first half or like a good portion, a good chunk of this game, the Jets were in control. They were doing their thing. I mean, what were they leading at halftime? We did so many good things in today’s game. And really, I think the loss came down to three things. Uh, and we can break it down in no set order, but let’s talk about the first. It was Aaron Glenn deciding to go for it in his own territory with still so much time left in the game. There’s no I understand it’s somewhat like if you’re a defensive-minded head coach, you don’t want to put your defense right back out on the field after allowing a touchdown. I get it, but you just can’t. And this is, by the way, no sort of hindsight 2020 thing. I feel I don’t really like all the aggression with going for it on fourth down across the league, let alone the Jets, a team that doesn’t really have much help, uh, doesn’t really have much firepower and has a question mark at quarterback and a young offensive coordinator. So, I think just based off of that context alone, I’d prefer to punt in most situations, especially if we’re on our side of the 50, especially if there’s still so much time left in the game, I am fine giving the ball back to Baltimore back on their own 20, back on their own 25 or 30. I’m cool with that. So, I didn’t like the decision to go for it, you know, then and there. Was that the only reason why the Jets lost? No. But it definitely felt like it was the turning point. The second big big deciding factor to me was the Bree Hall fumble near the goal line. Look, it happens. You know, the Jets for whatever reason cannot fall on a fumble. I feel like it’s been what 10 like it’s it has got to be realistically like at least five years, at least three to five years since the Jets have recovered a fumble. I mean, I can’t even picture the last time I’ve been watching every snap of Jets football my pretty much my entire life. And I have to go back such a long ways to actually picture a Jets defensive player landing on a fumble, getting a fumble recovery. I It’s just so few and far between. But again, the breeze hall fumble, not only are you giving, you know, you’re losing the turnover battle there, but you’re also taking points off of the board. You’re in the red zone, you’re driving down the field. At that point, I believe it was only a two possession game down by 10 points. So, a touchdown there would have been awesome, but even a field goal, it would have cut the lead into uh, you know, down to one score. But, of course, it does go back to Baltimore. So, you had the Aaron Glenn going for it. Kind of flipped the momentum a bit. you had the Breeze Hall fumble late and then one, you know, I don’t want to be that guy. I don’t want to be that fan. Uh, and this is something I I don’t really bring up all that often uh in recap videos, but I felt like the officiating tape was completely one-sided. I mean, like, are you kidding me? They’re calling these tickytack fouls. Oh, holding on Joe Titman, holding on Simpson, you know, pass interference. Tony Adams on an uncatchable ball out of the end zone. You know, Breeze Hall can get slung out of bounds and almost rams rams into the bench with players sitting down on it. No flag. No flag. Tyro Taylor can get hit late. No flag. I mean, we’ve seen what’s happened this season with Justin Fields as a runner. These refs just don’t give. They do not give roughing the passer or unnecessary roughness calls to defenders when they are hitting our quarterback. It’s ju it makes no sense to me. Again, I don’t want to be that guy. That’s not the main reason why the Jets uh lost, but it was pretty apparent, right? It was pretty apparent that the calls were going one way and the Jets weren’t really favored. Um, you know, in that regard. So, if you lose the turnover battle, if you have all these penalties stacked against you and, you know, some of them are are just like, how can you call that type of thing? Uh, and some of them were just blatant misses going, you know, against Baltimore. you know, if they would have called that uh, you know, roughing the passer on Tyrod Taylor, you know, that was on a third down and 10. You know, imagine another 15 yards. We’re knocking on the door of another touchdown there. So, it’s it’s just, you know, situations like that. But, you know, really those three things I I felt like were the key difference on how this game went in Baltimore’s favor. But, you know, in totality, you know, I felt like we control the the trenches on the defensive line. You know, it wasn’t like Lamar was breaking free a whole lot. He definitely did not look 100% healthy, but he was not in a position where, you know, he was uh completely immobile. He was extending plays like he looked fast faster than 95% of quarterbacks that are starting today anyway. Um I I mean, you look at the amount of k Derrick Henry had what over 20 carries and couldn’t break um what 70 yards, 70 80 yards rushing. to get 64 65 rushing yards again with over 20 carries and stopping the run has been a bit of a question mark for this Jets team, you know. So, I think that was a a pretty big building block. Um or or maybe a moment that Steve Wils can look at and say, “Hey, like, hey, we really did a good job.” Briggs, Harrison Phillips, you know, they did a really good job of just kind of controlling that defensive line, uh controlling that line of scrimmage, which again is a massive positive moving forward into the season. Like that’s something where if you’re see Wolves Aaron Glenn watching the tape on, you know, tonight, tomorrow, whenever they get to it, ideally on the ride home, the flight, the flight home, that’s something where where you can say, “Okay, hey, you know what? For the rest of the season, we got to build on this. We cannot have, you know, because we’ve seen it before, offenses just slice right through this defensive line.” That was not the case today. Overall, we did pretty damn good on on third downs defensively speaking. Now, to be fair, there were a couple drops with Baltimore receivers. It wasn’t a perfect game for Baltimore, but overall, like the Jets have struggled getting off the field as a defense on third downs. Not today, right? They did a pretty good job. Now, unfortunately, Baltimore was two for two on fourth downs, and again, one of those was a TD. So, if you’re losing the turnover battle, if you’re giving up these fourth down conversions and you’re not getting them on your end, yeah, it’s going to be tough. especially playing in their house. They’re getting the calls. Yeah, it it was going to be an uphill battle to begin with. But, you know, offensively speaking, you know, we roll out Tyrod and he’s getting his second start of the season. He had over 200 passing yards, right? The drop back passing game was there today. And mind you, again, no AVT, no Garrett Wilson to help in the pass in the passing game. We are starting John Mechy who showed up two weeks ago. We are starting Adidai Mitchell who showed up two weeks ago. Both guys were impressive. You know, John Mechy has another touchdown grab. John Mechi in two games has better stats than Josh Reynold. Uh Josh Reynolds, Alan Lazard, right? Tyler Johnson in two games. John Mchi was what? Wide receiver four could barely crack the lineup in Philly, barely get involved. And he in two games just showing up in the middle of the season with a qu one of these games was with Justin Fields as a passer, he already has more total yards, more touchdowns than three. Throw Aren Smith on top of that as well. He has more production than all these guys. That was the state of the wide receiving court before Mchi and Mitchell showed up. Now Mitchell had over 40 yards today. One of which came on a huge chunk play from Tyro kind of extending the play and hitting him. But you just see the speed and explosion with Mitchell. Like he really like put an emphasis on getting up field. 80 Mitchell, man, he feels like a sleeping giant. I am just way I I kind of look at Mitchell like a, you know, three-point shooter. Um, you know, in the NBA in college basketball because, you know, you look at last week, everyone is just ripping him. Oh, he has so many drops. He sucks. He sucks. He’s stone hands. You know, if a three-point shooter is giving you everything, right? He’s giving you movement. He’s giving you spacing. He’s giving you great shooting mechanics. And he’s getting open. But the shots aren’t falling. They’re going to come. You don’t kill the three-point shooter because the shots aren’t falling eventually because he has so many things going in his favor. It’s going to come. You just got to stick with it. With Mitchell, he has the size, he has the speed, he I mean, you just look at the separation that he was putting on display against New England. I mean, you can just see how big of a physical presence that he can be. you know, you upgrade a, you get healthy, b, you upgrade the quarterback in the offseason, like you bring Garrett Wilson into the offense. Now, all of a sudden, the the attention kind of dissolves a bit off of Mete and Mitchell. Like, this is I’m I’m really excited to see what Adani Mitchell can do with some consistent quarterback play. And again, it’s all about reps, right? From here on out, post trade deadline, it’s all about getting reps for these guys. the Joan Briggs, the Brown Lees, the Mazy Smiths, right? Getting these guys involved, getting these guys snaps. Mitchie Mitchell Mitchell, sorry. Uh Aryan Smith, too. Mason Taylor’s another one. So, I think there was a lot of building blocks today. Again, the Jets lost. Oh, multi-score loss. I get it. You know, it sucks. We lost. But big picture here, I thought we improved in a lot of metrics. I thought the game was fun. It was entertaining. It was back and forth. It never felt one-sided at all. And you take away some of these tickytack calls. Is the final score what it is? I don’t know. Maybe, maybe it’s, maybe not. I don’t know. But it played a part. It played a part. Bree Hall goal line fumble. Strange fourth down decision by Glenn to go for it. Alleviate some of these mistakes. And what will this final score look like? So, just take it, learn from it, and grow. That’s all you can do. Can’t go backwards. You can’t replay the game. Re-watch the tape. understand that, hey, maybe there was some questionable decisions made and move forward. So, it’s not the end of the world. I like what I saw overall and the score is what it is. I think it’s really about the future. It’s all about how this team is projecting into the future. If we’re getting killed 42 nothing, if we’re getting blown off the field, if we don’t look like a professional team, there were moments where I definitely questioned that early on uh in the season where we the defense was lost, the offense was lost. Special teams has been an ongoing consistent folk, McNamera, punt coverage, punt returns, all that stuff’s been great outside of a couple of fumbles early on, but you can’t really, again, the Jets are not expected to win the division. The Jets are not expected to go on a playoff push. The Jets were expected to finish with a top three pick in this draft. So, we can’t have these lofty expectations, at least for me, right? Any my from my personal standpoint, I’m not looking at this Jets team living and dying with every single win or loss. You It’s very, very important to critically analyze how this team is winning, how this team is losing, and be being able to hopefully paint a clear picture to stack bricks and move forward and get better in the long term. So anyway, thanks so much for watching, guys. I appreciate it. You guys are the best. It’s been a long season, but I feel confident with uh where we’re going, right? We got a lot of draft picks. We have some obvious needs. We had a lot of money in free agency. Let’s freaking go, man. Thanks so much for watching and as always, go Jets.

Tyrod Taylor and the New York Jets lose to the Baltimore Ravens 23-10, however there was a lot of positives that we can pull from this game. We’re getting closer to where we want to be..as always..Go Jets!

WE’RE GETTING CLOSE! New York Jets Vs Baltimore Ravens RECAP & REACTION

  1. Totally agree that this game, even though losing they showed something today. But I will wait and see being I’m a fan for 43 years I’m gonna just hope this is trending upwards

  2. Yes, GETTING CLOSE to one thing: cutting Justin Fields next year but having to still give him 10 million$ for nothing. That's ALL you accomplished today. You gave up on a young athlete and CRUSHED any potential at any future success, all for a 36 yr old journeyman QB. BUT, everyone knows, THAT'S THE JETS WAY! Tyrod really LIT up the offense today, didn't he? If we woulda started him all year, we'd be playoff bound!

  3. Love your show, but, getting close. Patriots were awful last year. Bears awful, Jaguars awful. Your roster was better, and AG picked the Qb. We should demand more. And honestly, respectfully, we have to demand more.

  4. There are some positives , the line, some of the trades, etc. It doesn't have to be a ship turns slowly. Just look around the league. AG, might not be the answer. I would prefer John Gruden with this team next year, young QB, great line, a much better wr core. AG, just don't think him overseeing a rookie QB makes sense. We as fans, should look around the league and stop settling. Coaching has changed the Bears, Jaguars and Patriots. AG picked Fields

  5. I am not going to hold yall 🤔 Justin Fields would have beat this Ravens team but he wouldn't have won the way we want him to win 🤷🏽‍♂️ he can't pass but he would have won the game with his legs. With that being said……. I am ready for the draft 🤦🏾‍♂️

  6. We played competent competitive football just not enough to beat a very talented team. I’m encouraged by what we saw today and I’m excited for the rest of the season watching the young players tryout for next year. Almost there, but not yet. Go Jets

  7. About 2-3 weeks ago, someone commented, "this is the worst coached football team in the NFL". This team begin the season with so many position holes. We NEED talent and realistically we just don't have it. The Sauce and Q trade could potentially be the greatest trade ever made for this team. Even with those two we were not going to win anything in the next 3 seasons with just what we had before the trade in the upcoming draft. Glenn has the players tough and is developing the younger talent, Entrand needs a quick processing, QB, that fits his system, and even Wilks has been making an underbuilt D roster much better through scheme and effort, but still needs quality pieces up front to reach elite levels. Shoutout to this coaching staff. Mougey will pull a Sam Presti this offseason just mark my words.

  8. The Patriots are screwed will be 100% one and done. Will Campbell will be out for a minimum of one year who knows if they’ll ever be the same and our left guard will definitely be out for the rest of the year so you can kiss our asses goodbye, but it was a great season so far very very over achieved we’re gonna sync like a stone in the ocean

  9. I hate the ref’s affecting these games. On the PI call on Oliver which was the right call, but there was a blatant holding call on Johnson on the same play that wasn’t called.

  10. I agree with you. I see improvement. That is what I want to see. I see a modern offense functioning but not finishing. I am happy to see 222 yards passing without Garrett Wilson against a very good defensive team. Fields would have finished with 60 yards passing and a ton of three and outs. Tyrod is not the answer but he is enough to show that guys like Metchie and Mitchell can play. Now I want to see how this team can win. I watch these games without any passion because I don't believe they are going to win. To get that passion and adrenaline flowing again, Glenn needs to get them to point where they know they can win and they do win.

One additional point on why the Ravens won. Their freaking punter was on fire yesterday.

  11. Was at the game and the vibe from the Jets fans I was with was optimistic. The refs gave Baltimore so many chances to extend drives on PI calls. The Jets are playing hard, especially on defense. I was also front and center on the Breece fumble. If we scored there, it’s only a 3 point lead for the Ravens and maybe the game plays out differently. Metchie seems like the real deal, and can be our slot WR. Mitchell still needs time to figure it out I think, but he has the potential. Can’t wait to see these guys play when Garrett is back. Thanks for being a real one JC. Go JETS!!!!

  12. Why do u guys want to lose like I hate this notion that u draft high u get a good qb. The best quarterbacks aren't picked 1 to 5 overall, their mid to late first rounders. Stop with the tank talk like holy. Like just win and establish ur culture.

  13. It was a better game to watch offensively with Taylor in there. But that and 10 points is like celebrating being the tallest of the 7 Dwarfs.
The defense played good enough to win. But what is blatantly obvious is that the Jets may have the WORST safety room in the NFL. The main reason we have no picks is that our safeties NEVER, EVER, get their heads around to find the ball. The fact that AG and/or Wilkes can't see that on film is quite disturbing.

  14. This team is playing with a purpose, I can clearly see the losing mentality burning off as the year goes on.
We have 5 firsts and three seconds over the next two years to build, with enough cap to reinforce with veterans, we’ve got the ammo now.
