THE HERD | Colin Cowherd SHOCKED, Los Angeles Rams Are UNSTOPPABLE With Matthew Stafford | NFL

I don’t think I’ve I mean Matt I’ve always argued that if Matt Stafford wins a second Super Bowl, you’re going to look at him and Aaron Rogers, it’s going to be a lot harder to say who was all time better if he gets to a second Super Bowl cuz he was better early. He was better in high school, in college, he’s better late. He is on now a heater of all heaters. I mean, I always love Matt, but he could be reckless. He He’s got a big arm, but I mean, he doesn’t get fooled anymore. Um, is it scheme? Is it growth? Is it Devonte? I mean, Matt, this is like Michael Jordan against the Blazers. Like, he’s putting his hands up. Like, it’s like I don’t know. I’ve never seen him play at this level. What is What? Describe why he is so hot. It It’s It’s the fountain of youth. It reminds me of Tom Brady. As this guy gets older, he gets better. uh what whatever he did in that like uh immortal chamber there that they brought to training camp to listen the whole off seasonason we were talking about training camp we’re talking about his bad back he can’t even practice he went out there trying to you know run around it and was like oh man this does not look good he’s 37 years old it does not look good whatever he did whatever he is doing last night postgame he said hey I would like to thank the athletic uh trainers and all the people that have helped me get back from this back injury he this is the best football that he has played this is the best he has looked. He looks younger. He looks like he’s aging in reverse. Uh his chemistry with Devonte is, you know, ridiculous. Inside the five yard line, I’ve not seen any receiver have more uh one or two yard touchdown passes. When the defense knows it’s coming, it’s either a fade or a slant. You know it’s coming. And what do they do? They throw a fade or a slant for a touchdown. It’s awesome. It It reminds me of when um like Randy Moss was inside the five. It’s like you knew it was going to happen and it was inevitable. That’s kind of what those two guys have been like inside the five. But no, it’s unexplainable. I mean, literally, I did not think he was gonna make it through the season uh with the with the injury. Now, this is the youngest and freshest and best. I mean, even last night on the broadcast, Chris Collinsworth is saying like, “Oh, you see this guy? He’s got he’s like chiseled. He’s got abs. You know, we’ve been seeing him for years. All this all whatever he’s doing is working.” Yeah, it’s working. He looks amazing. Yeah, man. He’s got to drop the health routine. Like I’ve said repeatedly on this channel, um if Stafford was with a better franchise earlier on his career, if he was able to get to the Rams and McVey, obviously McVey wasn’t around for the for a big chunk, but if he was, um Stafford would be in the GOAT conversation. He would be considered bonafide alltime great. It wouldn’t even be like kind of a question, but it would not. I remember when he was when he first went to LA, there was a lot of the conversations of like, oh, if he wins a Super Bowl, what does that mean for his legacy? Then even like after he won the Super Bowl, they were like, h, what does that mean? Blah blah blah blah blah. And it’s just like coaching and situation matters. That’s why uh Colin trying to compare him to Aaron falls on deaf ears to me because yes, I understand Aaron was in Green Bay and was certainly better than Detroit and all that, but it’s like he did not have McVey with Puka Nua. uh Devonte at this all at the same time having Cooper Cup and OBJ like and and and then Von Miller and Aaron Donald and Shawn Mc like he didn’t he didn’t have all of these things together. It’s not a it’s it’s not magic as to why the moment Stafford got to LA, he immediately had careerhigh in passing yards and touchdowns and he did them in the same time in the single in the same season and won a Super Bowl, right? Like that’s it’s that’s that’s not just magic. It’s not just oh that’s a coincidence. It’s not it’s not what it is. Situation matters even for the greatest quarterbacks. Uh, and you need talent even for the greatest coaching staff. Uh, and you need a a great a good enough roster even for the greatest coach and quarterback even when combined together. And so right now, this is just the perfect storm uh for Stafford and I’ll say Stafford and McVey. I’ll just I’ll kind of just combine them together of just being able to run the offense how they want to and how to maximize it. um with with uh with a talent and roster uh combined together. And to me, that’s what we’re seeing more than anything. Um and so uh and they have the defense to to to also um allow them to be able to play how they how they want to play. And so, you know, to me it was the question about Stafford or and this Rams team. It was always just health. It was always just as long as I was making all these takes back in the summer in in like March, April, May, June, July. Like, as long as Stafford is healthy, this Rams team is a legitimate Super Bowl contender. I kept saying it’s the foresome of Stafford, McVey, Devonte, and Puka. It’s like I have a clip uh from July where I’m just like they’re a Super Bowl contender being slept on and I was just like that forced him. I said like they give me angx because I was saying like you know I like to look at teams from the inside or the outside of like if I have to face the Rams, if I have to face the Chiefs, if I have to face the Eagles, you know, like if I’m an opposing fan base or something, you know, how do I feel about it? And I was just like they give me angst. Like they give me anxiety. Like knowing that I got to go go up against those four guys, I’m like I’m uncomfortable. I’m like, “Oh my god, this seems like they can all just go off, right? It just seems like you could throw for 400 yards and they each got 202 touchdowns.” Like, it just it’s uncomfortable. Like that that’s that’s who they that’s who they are. Uh right now it almost feels like that they have the most dangerous offense because not only do you have the talent there and the execution, but you have the coach quarterback who you’re going to have the highest levels of trust that you can possibly have. Uh I kind of keep going back and forth between like who do I trust the most in this immediate moment? Um cuz to me the best two coaches in the NFL are Andy Reid and Shawn McVey. And um and again I look at things through a coach quarterback duo. McVey and Stafford Reed and Mahomes. And Andy Reed and Mahomes are the best coach quarterback duo of all time from my viewpoint. Um and so you’re going to have an insane amount of trust. But if I’m just looking at it based on this year right now, nothing to do in the past, nothing to do with previous Super Bowls, MVPs, none of that matters. just like how do you feel right now? It’s like there’s a real argument that Stafford and McVey are uh number one in that category. But even if you can’t go that far, you can still say that you would much rather have Puka Nakua Devonte like you are you are way more comfortable and confident with that offense being able to be unlocked in any moment. Uh, now to be fair, I do at the core of it, I am going to trust Andy Reid in the big time moments more than I would a McVey, but again, we’re we’re not talking about like some massive massive gap here. It’s just that Andy Reid’s been there 10 million times. Uh, he’s he’s he’s been there for decades at this point, and that is real experience. But, I mean, once upon a time, you could look at the lines, you could be like, dude, that offense is so suffocating. It is just an onslaught. You know, you got Gibbs, you got Montgomery, you got Goff, you got Aman Ross Brown, and just you just keep going on on the the genius play calling of of of Ben Johnson. Oh my god. And like you can’t really say that this year. They don’t have the coaching or the level of consistency. The Eagles once upon a time you could be like AJ, Devonte, Jaylen, Seo. It’s like their O line’s not good enough and their coaching is not good enough. It’s like so you know they got the potential but like how much can you trust it? And then, you know, the Bills are whatever. It’s like, who are the Bills right now? You they’re all just Josh Allen. Uh, who are the Ravens right now? Not sure Lamar Jackson’s healthy right now. The Colts, it’s like, yeah, they’re playing great, but like do you really trust it? Are you really going to say I trust Shane Sy and Daniel Jones combo? Like, uh, maybe, maybe not. I don’t know. Uh, and then how about Drake May and the Patriots? And you’re like, uh, you know, I don’t know. Uh, and then the Chiefs obviously who I just went through, you’re like, yeah, they they’re still the Chiefs. It’s still Momes, still Andy, and you got Kelsey and Rasheed Rice and like you still got that firepower. You still got that potential, but like and Xavier Worthy, but like I don’t know if we take away any type of voodoo, any type of fluke plays, any type of ah that was just a bad bounce. Oh, I can’t believe it tipped the shoelaces and now it’s a live ball. We take away any of that and take away any of the defense and it’s just offense. What offense do you want right now? Who do you trust can get the job done? I’m gonna go with the Los Angeles Rams over the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, again, not saying that I trust them more or less or this or that, but it’s just like right now my confidence level specifically in an individual offense is the Rams. Um, and the core of that is specifically because of Stafford and McVey. But then when you round it out obviously with Puka, uh, Devonte, etc., etc., you’re like, “Okay, this is this is for real.” Now, I could still make the argument that I trust the Chiefs more, number one. Like, it’s funny because I’m thinking about making this list where I’m like, it’s not who do I think are the best teams. It’s not who do I think is going to win the Super Bowl, it’s just who do I trust the most? And it’s the Chiefs and the Rams. If I make it on a Monday, I could put the Chiefs at one and the Rams at two. And if I make it on a Tuesday, I could put the Rams at one and the Chiefs at two. Um the Chiefs of course deserve a lot of that uh respect because of what they’ve been able to do in the past, but um yeah, I just I just think um what Stafford is doing. Uh is awesome and it’s uh yeah, it’s great to see. Uh, you know, this game doesn’t really matter much to me cuz the Bucks, like I said in my postgame clip, like I think they were significantly overrated. Now they’re injured. Baker’s like now like they’re just they’re they’re circling the drain and and you know uh trending in the wrong direction. So a big win against the Bucks is like I don’t see it as like a big win over uh a great team. I’m I’m really excited to see what the what the Rams do against the the Seahawks again. I’m trying to think, do the Rams have any other like legitimate big games here? I mean, no. I mean, they got the Panthers. I know the Pan Panthers are feisty. I I get it, but you know, the Cardinals, no. The Lions, it’s going to be interesting, but you know, you’re going to like the Rams. Uh, and you have the Falcons and the Cardinals. And then, of course, the Seahawks. So, it’s really just one more. I mean, they’re probably going to be favored in every single game except for the Seahawks because it’s on the road. Uh would be my guess. But I mean, the the Rams could absolutely win out. Absolutely win out. That is 100% on the table. That’s why I’m excited to see what they look against the the Seahawks. And again, maybe the Lions I don’t the Lions are so unpredictable right now, right? Hey, I mean, they needed overtime against Jameus Winston. I don’t I don’t know if you know this, but Matthew Stafford is a better quarterback than Jameus Winston, whoever the heck the head coach’s name right now. I don’t even know his name for the New York Giants. Uh, he’s not as good as Shawn McVey. Okay, I mean, Jameus Winston doesn’t even have wide receivers. He doesn’t even have a wide receiver one or two right now. And they’re going to the wire overtime. They need a 59 yard field goal to tie it up, right? Feeling like I like the Rams just a little bit more in that situation. But again, it is football. It is the NFL and the Lions do have firepower, but do they have the ability to call upon it as frequently as the Los Angeles Rams? And you know, maybe there’s a random catch game, maybe they drop that random game to the Cardinals where you’re just like, “Oh man, Stafford had two was one touchdown, two interceptions for 210 yards.” Like that’s always on the table. Of course, obviously. Uh Jacobe Brassett’s got a little firepower in him, you know, got a lot of pride with that. Cardinals trying to fight for them lives. Uh the Falcons, I don’t know, maybe they’re going on a little bit of run with uh Kirk Cousins, you know, I I don’t know. You know, Van Robinson is trying to get to uh some other milestone. I mean, who knows? Maybe maybe it’s possible. But to me, really, honestly, the only game that matters to me is that Rams Seahawks game. And even then, even if the Seahawks win that game, um it, you know, it wouldn’t tell me anything. It it really wouldn’t even tell me necessarily anything. Even if the Seahawks blow the Rams out, like it wouldn’t be like, “Oh, that’s interesting. I just that now means to me that the Rams are not as good as the Seahawks.” I’ll just be like, “No, it just means like it’s a coin flip in the playoffs, man. It’s just a coin flip in the playoffs.” Like, I don’t know. It’s just I have to just see. Like I I you know I just wow it’s crazy. This is a really if if you’re a Rams fan, you’re looking at the schedule, you’re like, “Oh yeah.” Oh yeah. Bryce Young, Jacobe Brassette, like let’s go. Kurt Cousins, let’s go. Like you’re like you’re you’re ready for this. But I don’t know. Hopefully the Panthers are actually legit. Hopefully that game is actually tough. Again, I know obviously if you’re a Rams fan, you’re like, I don’t want that. But like as just me as a fan who just wants to watch great football, I’m like be awesome if the Panthers can actually be a new team that’s actually legit and good and we’re like whoa look at Bryce Young. He took a weird beginning to his career and now he’s leading the Panthers to win the division or something and and compete in the playoffs. Like I love it. Uh but you know just because I’m here for the action. I’m here for the drama. Those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about the Los Angeles Rams? 1. Agreed. I believe if Stafford had the coaching and teams that Peyton, Rogers and Brady had… He undoubtedly would probably have 2-3 rings, instead of just 1.

He very well may get his 2nd ring this year for what it's worth.

  2. Stafford was reckless is Detroit bc he had to be reckless πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

What people are overlooking is we get our best corner back in a few weeks πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Š

  3. Stafford is a great quarterback cooper cupp didn't make Stafford a great quarterback he's a great receiver but not ever quarterback can make the throws he makes and you can't say Stafford had cupp and adams and act like Rodgers didn't have any great receivers when in green bay. He had adams and jordy nelson and Randall cobb and greg Jennings.
