Aaron Glenn DEFENDS Critical Fourth Down Call! | New York Jets News
What is going on Jeff fans? Matt Oir back with another video this Monday afternoon. Wanted to talk some Aaron Glenn defending his critical fourthdown decision. Now uh I have made it pretty well known that I think it was okay for the New York Jets to go for it on fourth down in the spot that they did. It didn’t work out, but I appreciate the aggressive nature from Aaron Glenn as a nearly 14point road underdog, right? like very difficult to win a game that when you’re against a team that’s significantly better than you on the road and they’re playing to win. They weren’t playing not to lose. There’s a difference and I’m okay going out the way that they did. But Aaron Glenn was asked about why Bree Hall wasn’t on the field on fourth down. And here was his answer. Aaron, um I understand Breeze can’t play every play and and you know, you got running backs that have roles, but I think some people would look at fourth and two, fourth and two yesterday, you go, “Okay, why isn’t Bree on the field?” Because he’s your probably your best threat run pass, you know, he he keeps the defense guessing. Yeah. What can you just tell us like, you know, how how you manage that rotationally and and are there situations where you got to go, you know what, I I need my best guys on the field? Yeah, that’s a good question also. But I would say this, um, we trust any all of our guys that we have that’s on the field. Uh, you look at Isaiah and you look at his yards per carry, man, he’s doing a really good job running the ball, too. So, I think he’s also a threat with the ball in his hands, also. Um, and then with the receivers that uh, we have out there, we trust those guys to go make plays. Um, I think AD did a hell of a job making a move on their corner and actually winning on that. Man, I he didn’t get the ball. The ball went towards Mitch. Um, but man, even in that situation, man, we we trust Mesh to go and win that one-on-one situation. But, um, the guys that we have on the field, man, we trust those guys to go out there and make plays. So, we know for a fact they’ve made plays for us. Glenn essentially says he trusts all the guys out there. He cited Isaiah Davis’s yards per attempt, which is pretty good this year. No, no doubt about it. in a much smaller sample size compared to to Bree Halls, but no doubt Isaiah Davis has been more than adequate as a second or third running back for the Jets. And again, like I talked about it this morning in my video, I didn’t have an issue with them going forward on fourth down. And I didn’t necessarily dislike the the play call, too. The personnel is really where I have a little bit of an issue with it. And Glenn mentioned it, too. like on that play it kind of went back shoulder to John Mechy. He mentioned uh AD Mitchell being being open on the other side of the field. That to me I think would have been a easier high percentage kind of of play right over the middle of the field versus you know a one-on-one back shoulder throw. It’s just again can it work? Sure. But in in that situation just wasn’t a good ball. The timing wasn’t there. So on and so forth. The the thing that was a little bit strange to me is Bree Hall not being on the field without Garrett Wilson. He is far and away their best offensive player. Uh at least, you know, playmaker if you want to count, you know, Armanu. That that’s that’s fine and and totally valid. Um and I understand that Bree Hall can’t play every down. He’s played 71% of snaps essentially each of the last three weeks coming out of the buy. I just think they could pick and choose their their spots a little bit better with Bree on third and fourth down. And like the question was how or how the catch question was phrased that we just listened to. You know, fourth down essentially have your best players on the field in that situation. Uh Breeze gives or offers more as a uh pass catcher out of the back field. And I think that’s a really good call out from the reporter asking it like it it could keep the defense on their toes because you know like with Breece they could run it or they could pass it. And I think you know they have to the defense would have to account for that a little bit more than they would have to account for it with Isaiah Davis. So uh again I don’t really have much of an issue with the Jets deciding to go for it in that situation. I just think if you are going to do that have your best playmaker on the field. That’s just that’s that’s my stance on it. Guys, you probably already know Ridge for their unique, slim, modern wallets. Well, Ridge just took their gamechanging wallet and made it even better. I also wanted to talk some more about John Mechy, someone I mentioned in my video from earlier today. Here’s what AG had to say about the Jets receiver, who has done really well since joining the Jets. Why has Mechie been able to come in and be productive right off the bat? Um, listen, he’s come from a program uh at Alabama, which you guys know that um that’s embedded in him on how he has to work. Uh there’s a lot of people really don’t see what he what he do behind closed doors and he’s here every morning uh 6:00 in our indoor catching 300 balls. Um so if you put all that together with a lot of other things that he do, he’s going to be successful. You look at the things he’s overcome. Um, I don’t know if you know his history, but he had an ACL, man. He fought a battle with an illness and he’s come back from all those things. So, success is in his um is in his future no matter what he do. And I’m not surprised at the success he’s having right now. It’s honestly amazing his story and I know a lot of you guys probably know it, but it’s worth repeating. Uh, he was on track to being a firstround pick coming out of Alabama. Unfortunately, Terrace is ACL that drops him around. he goes in the second round instead of being a first round pick in recovery of the ACL tear. He’s working back with for, you know, to complete his rookie season with the Houston Texans or be able to play with Houston and he’s diagnosed with cancer and uh unfortunately has to miss his rookie season because of it. Uh he overcomes the the illness and is able to come back and play football because of it. And you know, even just being able to come back in that situation is unbelievable. But, you know, he bounced around between Houston and Philadelphia, two teams with crowded wide receiver rooms, and then seems to have found a spot with the Jets, at least over the last couple weeks. He’s come in and played really well. He’s been their best receiver over the last two weeks. And, you know, he’s a really easy guy to root for, and I look forward to watching him over the final six games of the year. And that’s what I think this year’s about. I I know we’re at the time of year now where we’re going to look and talk about, is it better for the Jets to win? Is it better for them to lose and the debates on the tank versus not to tank and win for the culture and the whole thing? This year is all about evaluating and seeing what and who is a part of your future and what your plan is for those guys. And I think John Metchi can be a part of the Jets future. It’s really just up to him and all these guys, not just him, but to kind of just see where they are going into 2026. I think there is a role for him. I think he would have a really good chance to be a starting slot receiver for you. And sure, the, you know, the wide receiver room isn’t done. I would still look to add, you know, a wide receiver pretty early in the NFL draft in 2026, either with the second first round pick or at the top of the second round, I think would be a very wise decision for this football team to make. But even with that said, taking a flyer on guys like John Mechy and AD Mitchell and getting something anything out of them would is a major win. And they’re not the core pieces of those trades, right? Like clearly the Sauce Gardner trade, the bigger deal was the draft capital that you got, but if AD Mitchell gives you anything or if John Mchi gives you anything as essentially a tossin in the deal, then that matters and that’s a major win for your franchise. So, uh, John Mchi, what a story, man. Really happy for him. Excited to watch him over the final six games of the year. Let me know what you think down below in the comments. I’m Matt Ori. It was a good decision. The play wasn't executed well.
Why didn't have a special package for Justin Fields run pass option, plus Breece on the field at the same time instead of just benching him after paying him $40 mi dollars? It's called coaching.
I just used code "OLeary" at a yard sale and got an as-is toaster for a buck! 😮🎉
Mistakes happen admitting it says a lot about being a man and a coach his decision bad decision sucked the life right out of that team yesterday
Huh?!🤔 Know your limitations and coach accordingly. Why o why is Breece not on the field for 4th downs?
Matt, the AG2 kissing has to stop. It's nauseating. What was the score in the game Matt? Wasn't it 10-7 Ravens?
Ravens clearly were not themselves. Lamar still dealing with injury. Ravens only had one successful drive all day that went for six.
The score was not 14-0 or 21-0. Its 10-7. The defense has played well up to this point.
You punt there. Back them up, see if you can get ball back. You do not give the ball back to the team who has struggled all day, finally get six and then give them a short field. You knew BAL was scoring there.
Read the room please AG. This is not Detroit. You are not Parcels. He's AG2 with no clue how to be a Head Coach. How to read the game.
Dont reward your good defensive play so far with giving them a short field to now deal with and tell them to stuff BAL. Okay so BAL scored one TD.
That was a panic move. In your own end too? I'm not thinking if they convert. It's dumb football from a dumb coach.
And just to show how dumb and clueless AG2 is, Breece Hall is not even in the game. So just remove the lone threat you have. Very predictable football. Really? This is what we are defending????
The game was over after that failed 4th down and Ravens score six. That sealed the game. 10-7 was still a game. At 17-7 the game was over.
Were the Jets winning that game? No. But don't give the game away in the 3rd quarter. Panic move in 3rd??? Come on now.
AG my 4th down tank commander.
Agreed Matt. That call to go for it on 4th was definitely the correct call. It was just a crappy play call/poor execution. Also, I like Metchie a lot. Hope he sticks around. Solid dude, great work ethic. 🤘
But can de defend some damn wins
On a different note, There will be no winning as long as Woody owns the jets.
