Ryan Reaves Reacts to Celebrini’s Hat Trick against Utah

We are here with Ryan Reeves after the Sharks overtime victory against Utah. This was a game, man, where I have to think that, you know, with your experience, it comes down to that game management of being able to manage a two nothing lead. You know, a push back was coming. Did this kind of play out the way you expected it the longer that Utah hung around? Yeah, I mean, I thought we we carried a lot of that game. Um, you know, the chances were kind of even, but I thought we we carried a lot of the game, but um, you know, teams are going to push back, especially late when they’re down and and they did, but um, you know, as our power play, you know, didn’t get a ton going during the game uh, right or the regular play. Uh, huge goal in overtime, obviously. Yeah, obviously. And, you know, I was looking at your line several times during the game when Utah was making their pushes. It seemed like it was dependent on you guys to be a little bit more physical, kind of make the big stops, the big poke checks, the big body checks. How much pride do you take in that and being able to look at it and say, “All right, this is our time, guys. This is what we’re being asked to do.” Yeah, I mean, um, you know, it’s nice when we put the puck in the net, but that, you know, that’s not what I’m here for. I’m here for energy and and playing body and, um, you know, drawing energy, and I think every time we got put on the ice, we tried to do that. Um, you know, just simple plays, getting it deep, and then getting on the body, being responsible in our Dzone. So, um, you know, he he trusted us deep into the into the period there into the third. So, I thought we did our job. any frustration with the fact that the team was not able to build upon the 20 lead? Uh, you know, yes and no. I mean, you know, teams are going to push back as the NHL. There’s, you know, 32 really good teams in this league and, um, you know, teams have good players and they’re going to push back and they’re going to get their goals. Um, you’re not going to get a shut out every game. So, um, yeah, I think you want to finish it in regulation, but, you know, um, the resiliency to come back and and win in overtime, I think, is the most important thing. Was it pretty calm on the bench even when they did cut the deficit to one and then tied it? Yeah, I I think you know after the first uh you know couple losses that we had in the regular season, I think we’ve been a little more resilient, a little a little more uh cool, calm and collected on the bench when things have gone uh you know the wrong way. And um yeah, I feel like we’ve been bouncing back and not letting those things really affect us late, especially late in the games. This is not your first rodeo. You’ve been around this league for a while. Are you watching the confidence grow with this team like juxtaposing it with those first two games of the season? Yeah, I mean these these top guys are playing out of their minds and uh you know we’re getting contributions up and down the lineup. So that’s what you need to win. Um and you know as I as they keep going as you keep piling the wins on the confidence is just going to keep growing and uh I think you’re seeing that right now. Is it fun watching Mlin do his thing? It’s been it’s been an absolute pleasure for the last couple months. So I I hope it keeps going. What was your view of him previously? I mean, how much did you know about his game? I mean, I’m sure you’d seen the highlights, but it’s not the same as when you were as a teammate. Yeah, I think he doesn’t get enough respect, especially last year, and then, you know, coming into this season, what he’s done already. Um, you know, he plays the right way. He plays hard. He goes into the corners. He’s not just kind of floating on the outside and and getting his cookies, you know, he’s he’s getting into the battles, getting in front of the net, and, you know, that’s what you need out of your superstar. And, you know, to see him doing it this young is is very impressive. What have you thought about Zachos stopchuck since he’s come up with you guys? He’s been great. You know, he was very good on the draws today. Played physical, played responsible. Um, you know, his his confidence is only going to grow with more games. So, yeah, it’s been fun playing with him the last couple games. It’s been fun watching whether it’s Ethan Cardwell or Patrick Giles, whoever’s coming up, it seems like they’re fitting in pretty seamlessly. Yeah, everybody that’s come up has played really well for us. And, you know, that’s kind of what you need in an organization. Um, you know, there’s going to be injuries, there’s going to be guys who come in and out of the lineup and and you need those guys to step up. So, um, I think everybody that’s come here has done a really good job of that and we’re going to need that continuing. What did you think of Asky tonight? He’s been great. He’s been he’s been playing both our goalies have been playing really well the last couple months and, you know, he’s kept us in games. He’s stolen us some games and, you know, you can’t win in this league without goalending and, you know, they’ve been proven why, you know, they’re here and and they’re really keeping us in games. What’s the plan now? Just get some rest and get ready for Thursday. Absolutely. You know, have a have a beer or two, hydrate tomorrow and and get back at it on Thursday. today. Do you have a go-to postgame meal? Whatever. Whatever’s free out there in the locker room. Good answer. All right, Ryan. Appreciate your time, man. Congrats on the win. I’ll see you Thursday.

  1. While i have never been a fan of the teams this guy has been on, I have always LOVED this guys game. He's a total warrior. As a Sharks fan, I am SO happy he is with us now and hope he enjoys his time here!

  2. Great to see you on here, Ted. Most of the media scrums are repetitive although interesting, yet I like when you're able sit down and offer up pointed, fair and insightful questions in a conversational way. This format is much more natural than racing to squeeze in a question in a scrum with an access limit with 15-20 others (even though THAT IS the inescapable reality.

  3. I did NOT expect to like Reaves nearly half as much as I do. Dude seems to be a most-excellent addition to the locker room, and i appreciate his job in being a deterrent for anyone to go after our amazing rookies.

  4. been wanting this dude to join the Sharks for such a long time since it's been such a long time since we've had this sort of presence on the ice. I remember the Sharks teams of past where opponents would take runs at our guys and we never responded. Reaves changes all of that.

  5. Teddy, you've asked so much about all other teammates…. ask about the guy your interviewing and have us learn more about him. VS . asking about how everyone else did. Reaves was Pub Enemy #1, but from a true hockey player and follower of the sport/team…. He is a god send!! We need him more than ever.
