This is Chris Clark, the guy who runs KC Chiefs corner. You can find him over there. We’ve been doing this show for going on nine plus years now covering this team uh for 15 or so each. So, a grand total of 30 years we got doing this. So, we appreciate you spending your time with us. Uh we come from a coaching background and a business background, all kinds of different things. We bring all the angles together every day and we appreciate you guys being with us today. We have some new angles to cover. There’s a new running back in town. How did it come about? What was the timing because I think that was really important and what does it look like going forward? Then we’re going to get to what maybe the gotchas are from that Colts game, including the condition of one Trey Smith and the offensive line getting ready for the Dallas Cowboys. That’s what we’re going to finish the show with. So, those three topics coming at you live. But Damen Pierce, uh, recently released by the Houston Tekkans, Texans started super fast. His rookie year, had over 900 yards rushing, had a good number of touchdowns, looked like a guy that was going to be a cornerstone for them. Things have gone downhill since then. Some coaching changes, some player acquisitions. Mixon comes in, then they bring in Chubb. Culminates in last week, they’re like, “You know what? We’re not helping Damen. Damen’s not helping us. Let’s cut ties. The Chiefs decide to pick him up. It was, I think, theorized by a lot of Chiefs fans and I think you thought it was a good idea to happen. So, how do you like the acquisition now that it’s actually come to pass? And to be clear, it wasn’t just the Chiefs. There was, I think I saw reported six different teams that were trying to sign him and he chose Kansas City. So, uh, they have a plan for him. he wanted to be here and we’ll see how that ends up turning out. I thought it made a lot of sense just because the Chiefs have struggled at the running back position. What their usage of Elijah Mitchell or nonusage of Elijah Mitchell, I guess we’ll put it that way. Uh doesn’t make any sense to me. Their usage of Clyde Edwards, um I don’t understand what they’re doing there. Like I I get the fact that they know that Clyde knows the offense. I understand that. But if that’s really the case and that’s the reason why he’s playing over Elijah Mitchell, why is Elijah Mitchell on the roster? Correct. That’s what it comes down to for me. Right. Nothing has changed there. No. And I don’t know that it will. Like I think it sounds like they’re going to bring in Damen Pierce on the to be on the practice squad. I would imagine he’s on the practice squad this week. He’s on the practice squad next week. And it’s not going to shock me if he ends up active for the game against the Houston Texans. Mhm. Whether or not he necessarily should is a whole another issue and a whole another discussion, but it’s not going to shock me if he ends up being elevated from the practice squad for that game. And quite frankly, as far as he’s concerned, I don’t think it’s going to matter to him if he is on the practice squad for a couple weeks and then gets called up versus being on the active roster completely the whole time. Like, yeah, it makes a difference for the money for the first couple weeks, but he knows he has to get acclimated to the offense. He knows he has to get used to the system. So, this gives him the best ability to step in, be on the roster, and help the team going forward. And I think he’s looking at it long term, thinking if I’m in Kansas City, I have the chance of not only maybe rejuvenating my career, but helping them in in a situation challenging for the playoffs and maybe challenging for another Super Bowl run. Yeah, I I will say this. They terminated the contract for Jimmy Holiday. In the meantime, Elijah Mitchell still in the 53. I don’t think Damen has to wait. I think he gets elevated two days from now. I think he is immediately into play because this is a team that just ran their only workhorse back into the ground with 30 plus carries. I’m not convinced that Isaiah PCO is ready to go. And I think that is probably part of the timing of this signing is that it happened literally just after we finished our postgame presser and our stream to to really culminate the Colts game. The timing of it makes me think it was a little bit more desperate than waiting until to say today to see Isaiah maybe back in the building or something like that. It makes me feel like he’s not quite ready. And that’s possible. The Chief Simulated Practice said that Isaiah Pacha would have been a full participant today. I don’t know whether or not he’s going to be able to go against the Cowboys. It makes a ton of sense that they bring him in. And I will say this, I don’t know that he gets activated for the Cowboys game. Uh just because it is going to be two days and it’s possible that maybe they will need him if Kareem is dealing with any after effects of that game. Uh that’s definitely a possibility. Clyde has one more elevation left and then his he’s out. So, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Clyde get activated again for for the game on Thursday and maybe even Mitchell being active in the same game. The Chiefs are going to be dealing with injuries. We’re going to talk about Trey Smith here in a little bit. Uh I I wonder if they go that direction, especially if Pacheco isn’t able to go. That gives you a couple of different ways you can go with the running back position. It just seems like it would be very very it’d be a very big ask to have him come into a brand new offense and be ready to go and ready to play two days later basically. Uh because that’s all he’s really going to have. And yeah, you can step in and you can play running back, but are you going to hit the right holes? Are you going is it going to be looking like what you want? It’s it’s a bad position to put him in is is I guess what I would say. That’s the interesting part. There are people that will tell you that Damen does not run outside zone well. There are people that tell you that he does, that he understands what to do, and I feel that that particular being the bread and butter of this offense. I feel like he’s capable of doing it. So, if they feel the same way, then there’s no reason not to because outside zone is outside zone is outside zone. You either go with the flow or you take the cut back. It’s really not trying to maneuver to a specific gap or anything like that. So, I I think it’s going to be really interesting and telling when and if we see him. For me, it’s it’s the terminology. Like, I I understand what you’re saying. Like, outside zone is outside zone. He’s going to get that, but it’s it’s learning the play calls, learning the different names of the play calls, knowing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing on those play calls. like yes, I understand you can bring him in and give him just a little bit, but the other reality is is if you put him out there, say you activate him and you leave Clyde down and something happens to Hunt who’s able to go and something happens to Bashard Smith, then you’re sitting there with a running back that is extremely limited in the playbook. Like that’s I think where the major concern would be for me in that aspect. Whereas if you have Clyde, at least he’s going to know the playbook. He may not be able to help you much, but he’s going to know the different play calls and and what he’s supposed to be doing in those situations, which is why they’ve acted him activated him to this point from what we’ve heard, which also doesn’t make a lot of sense because he just isn’t he hasn’t been effective for this team. And as you said, it’s his last possible elevation, so maybe they just let it run its course. We’ll find out. We’ll see what Matt thinks tomorrow, folks. And we are going to have the crossover to get you ready for the game. So don’t miss that. But next updates, it’s not just an ankle injury. It’s multiple ankle injuries for Trey Smith. He is in doubt for this game. And what does that mean? Well, it means offensive line is in a tough spot. That’s next. The NBA is back and there’s no better place to get in the action than FanDuel, the official sports betting partner of the NBA. So, go ahead to fanduel.com and sign up uh over at FanDuel, the official sports betting partner of the NBA. Well, attrition sucks. Let me just tell you that. Uh, and there’s been nobody that’s been more of a just an absolute anchor man uh on this offensive line right next to Creed than Trey Smith. But first, there was the back issue. Now, we find out today that not only is it a standard ankle sprain like like anybody out there may have rolled their ankle playing basketball or something like that where it’s it’s low around the joint, etc., but now it’s a high ankle sprain as well. And for a man at 320 plus pounds, sorry Trey, I’m not going to not try to throw you under the bus there. Um, that’s that’s a tall order to try to overcome both of those and play another ball game where you couldn’t finish this last one. Well, and don’t forget who he’d be going up against. I mean, the the Cowboys have gotten a new defensive tackle on Quin Williams. This is going to be a challenge for this offense, and I it’s not a great position to put Trey Smith in. And especially considering, think about all the different times that they actually usually try to make them pull to do different things in the running game. Uh sometimes even in the passing game to an extent, you you’ll see the interior offensive lineman pulling out to hit somebody that’s being uh pushed out further. So, I it’s a lot. It’s it’d be a huge ask to have Trey Smith go. Um, and that’s not a great situation for Kansas City. They put in Mike Cali. I didn’t I don’t think he played very well from what I saw. Uh, I really would be considering if I would really be considering if I was the Chiefs, can we put in Jaylen Moore? Can he become our number six offensive lineman and just step in and spot duty in that scenario and and play that that role? I would love to see that. The one thing that I want to throw out and I know we haven’t really talked about the Colts game uh at all, but one thing that you look at going into this next game against Dallas that does affect everybody else on the offensive line outside of Cali to an extent uh and Jaylen Moore, 96 snaps I think on the offense. That’s and having to play four days later. I I mean, as an offensive lineman, you go out there wanting to show that you you know, you have it and you’re going to play every single snap and you’re going to do whatever the team asks of you. And I get that and I have no problem with that. But that’s a freaking tall order when you’re when you start looking at how many snaps they played. 96 snaps for Humphrey, Simmons, Suata, and Jawan Taylor. All of them played all of those snaps. And then you start looking at Cali who played 58. So he’s almost he played more snaps and this is the funny thing to me. He played more snaps on offense than the entirety of the Colts played on offense because they only had 51 snaps. That’s true. Here’s here’s the other one that I’m concerned about. And Trey would not have participated in practice today, folks. So it is a long shot at this point from what we understand that he plays in this game. We’ll talk more with Matt, see what he finds out tomorrow inside the building. But the other one is Travis Kelce played 84 snaps. 84. 27 of them were run blocking. So Travis was working and I am a little concerned about that uh impact on him for Thursday as well. Well, Travis had 84, Xavier Worthy had 74, Kareem Hunt had 68, and Rasheed Rice had 60. Everybody else was under uh 50. Well, everybody else was under 45 other than Caliu who had 58. So, yeah. I mean, I I can’t I I can’t fathom them being in that situation where Travis Kelce has to play that many snaps. I mean, 84 snaps, quite frankly, 84 snaps should be a game and a half for Travis Kelce, if not closer to two games for Travis Kelce. Agreed. Um, and to have to do it in one game and quite frankly, have a good game. I mean, Kelsey did Kelsey produced in that game. It wasn’t like he was non-existent. So, even late in the game, he was helping. Uh, but man, that’s that’s a lot of snaps. You’re not kidding. Now, when you take a the grain of salt that always comes with looking at PFF grades, uh, and that’s because of the way that they go. Even True Media breaks it down to true passets. Jenna Moore was like the second highest graded pass uh, blocker on that roster. uh he only played five snaps, so obviously it was it was an extra man situation, jumbo packages, but I like your concept of bringing him in at the guard spot. Not sure that they’re comfortable or he’s comfortable with that, but I have to say I was not happy with the output they got from Kellyo and I don’t think you can set that up as a starting point. If you had to go to him, I think you could try that, but I don’t think that you want to start that way. I when you look at grades, I mean, even Hunter Norzad, who didn’t play very much, I think he just had two snaps, um, would be an option there as well. I I don’t know that Mike has ingratiated himself to anyone but Andy and Andy to be that guard replacement for Trey Smith. Yeah. And if I’m Dallas, I’m sending everybody and their mother at Caliendo. Sorry, I am. I mean, that that’s and their defense is is bad. like this is and we’ll see the other thing that we don’t know about Dallas and and it’s because the trade just happened. How does Quinton Williams trade, how does his presence in that defense change things? Obviously, they’ve had Kenny Clark the entire season. They haven’t had Micah Parsons. So, you kind of get an idea what he’s going to bring to it, but the question is is what is Quinnon Williams going to bring to their defense. He’s got to get in into the defense. I would imagine you’re still not going to have a pretty good idea of what he’s going to add to this defense even against the Chiefs. It’s still going to be a few more weeks to see how he rounds in and how they’re able to use him. But he is going to be somebody that’s going to be on the field against Kansas City and it is going to be somebody that they have to worry about and plan specifically for because if I’m Dallas, I’m running him against Mike Cali every single snap and trying to make it to where he has single. He’s up single against him every single snap, which is going to be hard, but as a defense, you can try it. You Yeah, you have to because here’s the contributing factor. Patrick Mahomes was favoring what we found out today was a groin strain uh last night, too. Would have been a full practice supposedly in practice today, but still not 100%. You could see him moving awkwardly in between plays. uh the adrenaline of the between the snaps wasn’t too bad, but you also have to expect that after a week he’ll get a little bit of treatment, but a week you might heal up. Three days, I don’t know if that’s the case. So, you want to you got to make sure that a you don’t have to continue to move the pocket constantly because that puts just added pressure on him. And you have to make sure that you have that spot right in his B gap sorted out so that he’s not constantly getting pummeled. The worst part for Kansas City, quite frankly, is that it’s the right guard position because if you’re rolling out, it would be a lot easier for him to roll out to his right side. But what you’re going to have to ask if you’re trying to get it away from Quinnon Williams and and or if you’re trying to get away from Cali side, he’s going to have to be rolling out against the way that he would normally throw. And while he can do that, he’s shown he can do that. He’s shown he’s comfortable doing that. You don’t want him doing that 15 times in a game. Um, so I I do think that that’s something that you have to take into consideration as to how this is going to go. And I wonder what the del I wonder what the Cowboys are going to do to try to force Cali to have Quinn Williams or any of their defensive linemen one-on-one. Uh, I mean, you can stack the defense to one side and attack, you know, with three guys on one side of the center, uh, and and try to force the other one to Cali in the B gap. I mean, there’s lots of different things you can do. Kansas City should have counters for that. But this is not going to be a good setup for the Chiefs. And you know, it’s not great for the Chiefs period going forward either, cuz the next week isn’t going to be any better with their next matchup. No, it’s not. It’s not getting easier. So, what can they do? Who do we have to pay attention to? The Dallas Cowboys have threats out there, and one of them used to play in Denver. He’s next. Dallas, Texas, the Chase former home. uh Jerryville, you can get into a whole lot of things, right? Uh the fact is they don’t play defense very well right now except for the acquisition of Quinn Williams. Okay, so maybe it’s on on the way up. We haven’t quite seen that yet. Hasn’t been a lot yet. What they do do well is move the ball on the ground. Uh much like the Chiefs just faced maybe the premier running back in this league this season, they were able to come away with it. They faced Javvante Williams. He used to play in Denver. He just went 2487 uh this the other day against the Eagles as well. A team that does have a significant uh defensive front and he was still able to ground that. I I feel like the play style is different, but I think Williams is nearly as uh scary and the Chiefs have to give him as nearly as much respect as they did Jonathan Taylor. Big difference for me is Dak Prescott is way better than Daniel Jones. And the the Cowboys have weapons that the Colts don’t. Um, you’re looking at you’re looking at CD Lamb and George Pickkins and those two guys alone are way better weapons than anything in Indianapolis has uh in the pass catching department. Uh, Ferguson has been playing well for the for the Dallas Cowboys as well. That defense that offense is going to score points. This defense is going to have its work cut out for them because you can’t just sell out. The Chiefs sold out against the run against Jonathan Taylor. You can’t do that against the Cowboys cuz they can beat you in the passing game. The one thing that Kansas City could have going for them is Tyler Gton sounds like he will be missing this game, which means that their left tackle should be out and Kansas City should be able to hopefully get pressure over their left tackle who has not played very well uh in G as Gen’s replacement. So, we will see if that ends up being the case. But, you start looking at how this game is going to play out and it’s not a pleasant matchup for Kansas City. It’s not like you can say, “Okay, we’ll go shut down the running game and feel like we can, you know, leave it to Dak to try to beat us because Dak will beat you.” I’m not saying Dak is Josh Allen. That’s not what I’m saying. I am saying Dak is a lot better than what you just faced in Daniel Jones and he will make you pay with the weapons he has on the outside. That’s what Down to Period. I I have to agree with you. And Turpin had a big play, but he is not he’s not the thing right there. It is Pickins and Lamb. Lamb has had an interesting season up, down, sideways. I think Pickkins is the guy that really wants to make a big impact. I know he’s had a couple of catches against the Chiefs. I think when he was in a Steelers uniform, but I’m not convinced that they are 100% ready for this. No, no Williams yesterday. Uh I think Jaylen Watson played one of his better games. I think you’re allowed four yards on one catch on four targets. So, a good day out, but it’s been and he had a great pass bro uh break up downfield. Sorry, I just want to say that. That was a phenomenal play on his part and he got his head around and and located the ball. Yep. You’re absolutely right. And that that is a skill he’s going to have to continue to employ because I think he’s going to draw the tougher matchup and it’s going to be on Pickkins and I’m comfortable with Tre McDuffy more on Lamb, but they got to get physical with Pickkins because he is a physical specimen. I think that’s going to be key. Yeah. And it’s going to be a fun game. I think that you look at how this Chiefs offense is playing. I don’t know that they’re going to struggle in the red zone like the like they did against the Colts. The Colts have a much better defense than the Cowboys do. The Cowboys have been terrible just about all year. Uh they played a little bit better against the Eagles. Only allowed 21 points I think uh against the Eagles this past game, but they did play in the afternoon game. And while that doesn’t sound like a big deal having the difference between a a you know early game versus a late game when you’re going on three days rest it does matter a little bit. The one advantage that Dallas will have is that they’re going to be playing at home. So they’ll be used to their schedule. They’ll have a little bit more time in the training room where Kansas City has to travel. So it’ll be a little bit different there. But I do think that this is going to be a game that could be an offensive game for both teams. Uh, and it’s not that I don’t think KYC’s defense is good. I do think they’re good. But this is a matchup where Dallas has the ability to put up points and it’s a question of who are you going to take away? And if you can’t get pressure on Dak, that’s going to be a problem. Yeah, you’re absolutely right. This has to be a pressure. And I take back what I said earlier because I just checked Quinn and Williams numbers. He produced eight pressures this last ball game against the Eagles. So, they are able to do it. You have to be able to do it in turn. And while I thought Chris Jones put up a remarkable performance, uh I don’t think he had enough help to tell you the truth, he needs more. And you’re not going to get from Mike Penel. You’re not going to get from Derrick Naughty. It’s got to be George Carlus and Charles Amenu who after what I thought was a pretty good game the game before was absolutely absentee from this Colts game. Yep. Yeah. And in the offseason when we get there, we’re going to have a lot to talk about when it comes to this Chiefs team because while the offense has its pieces and I think that you can kind of see them rounding into shape to an extent, the lack of pass rush has absolutely killed this team. Uh the past couple of years quite quite frankly, it killed them last year. It’s killing them this year. They have no pass rush outside of Chris Jones. And Chris Jones to an extent has been off and on at times. I’m not gonna say uh he hasn’t been productive. It’s just not he’s not getting to the quarterback. Part of that is because he’s getting double team. Part of that is because of the way that the offenses are playing against them and they’re getting the ball out extremely quickly. I understand all that. But when you have no pass rush outside of Chris Jones, like Carlos hasn’t been getting it done to the extent that you would hope that he would and you just don’t have anybody on the outside other than that. You don’t have a guy that’s coming in and giving you 10 sacks. If they had that, I think that this defense would be a lot better because then you could get pressure from both sides. Right now, you’re not getting anything from from a mini Hugh for what you’re paying him. Dana has never been a pressure guy when you’re when you start talking about uh rushing the passer. He’s always been a guy that’s going to be more of a run defender more than anything else. So, to me, it’s just a matter of can you find a way to survive? Can you find a way to uh get pressure? You’re going to have to blitz. That’s really what it comes down to. You’re going to have to to trick QBs and trick offenses going forward because you just don’t have the the guys to get after the passer. And that’s something that they have to address into going into next season. But obviously here we are talking about the Cowboys and what they can do this week. Yeah. I don’t know how they can other than Blitzmore and you got to be careful with that against Dak because he’s going to have hot reads and he’s got some weapons that will be able to hurt you if you miss. Well, I’ll tell you I’ll tell you one way that you can address that and I’ll go into this later uh as we talk about the crossover and with Matt tomorrow. But Leo Chanel, I thought had one of his better games of the season and I think you can utilize him in a way that doesn’t necessarily make it a blitz. You can run a fiveman front with him and attack with him or he can come from off the ball. But I do think he is the next evolution of who do you send? Instead of getting crazy with the DBs, I want to see them use Leo Chanel to attack Dak Prescott. I think that might work. But we’re going to get into the details tomorrow. We’re going to go through it with Matt Derek, get his insight from within the building. Short week, lot going on. We’re going to try to get you all the way caught up. So, don’t miss tomorrow. Make sure you like and sub you every day dares. You guys know the drill already. And then we will have the crossover. So, we’re going to get insight from Marcus Moer down in Dallas to give us uh what it really needs to look like as we get going forward. But, we appreciate you being with us today, subscribing, and doing all the things. We are going to be with you riding this whole way. Short week. Buckle up and get ready cuz we are going to have show and a content for you. We are also going to do a very very tight and quick show on Thanksgiving Day following that game just as uh a lot of us around the country are getting around to eating on that holiday. So don’t miss that. We’ll be with you live afterwards. We appreciate you. Have a good one. We’ll talk to you tomorrow.

Kansas City Chiefs shake things up with the signing of running back Dameon Pierce, sparking debate about how his arrival could reshape the offense just as injuries mount and the playoff push intensifies. Will Pierce provide the spark the Chiefs’ backfield needs, especially as questions swirl around Isaiah Pacheco’s health and Trey Smith’s status on the offensive line?

Ryan Tracy and Chris Clark break down the Chiefs’ latest roster moves, assess Pacheco’s workload, and debate Pierce’s fit in Andy Reid’s running scheme. The conversation spotlights concerns over protecting Patrick Mahomes, especially with Trey Smith battling multiple ankle injuries before a tough matchup against the Dallas Cowboys’ defense. Key topics include the offensive line’s durability, defensive worries without enough pass rush support for Chris Jones, and the looming test against Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and former division foe Javonte Williams. Can the Chiefs maintain momentum, or will injuries and unfamiliar faces define their playoff fate?

  1. Without Trey Smith, the running game might not be effective. Although Kareem Hunt is a great running back, but he is old and he cannot keep up the 50 touches every week. It will break him for sure. I wish the Chiefs signed Hall from the Jets, but getting Pierce is better than nothing.

  2. How much is he gonna add to the offense?? What new element??? They need to make a serious commitment to running 🏃 the damn ball 🏈 and give them at least 20 carries no more of this 10 carries nonsense. Is Pierce fully healthy?? Caliendo is the weakest link 🔗 in the chain ⛓️‍💥 on the O line. I
still think Chris Jones needs more help on the interior D line more push.

  3. I bet Dallas brings out reserves , will we? We need to try out guys off practice squad , our coaches needs a different strategy with our injuries
