The New York Jets Are Close to Figuring it Out?!

What is going on Jeff fans? Meadow Liry back with another video on this Tuesday. I wanted to talk to you guys about a Harrison Phillips quote. He spoke with the media yesterday and gave a really long answer about the Jets and this team building a foundation and what needs to happen for the New York Jets to be able to turn it around. And look, he speaks for nearly two minutes in this, but this is something that I think everyone should see. Everyone who is a fan of this football team, I think should watch this video and hear what Harrison Phillips has to say about this team figuring it out and getting going in the right direction. What do I think of the foundation? What do I think it’s going to take to turn around? Um, it’s a good question. I I mean I think in a short amount of time it still has to be clear exactly what our foundation is, who our foundation is and and what is the um the thumbrint of this organization, the identity of this team going to be um for this season and moving forward and uh you know it takes time but there’s there’s always a sense of urgency with it. I’m really optimistic. I’ve I’ve talked to you about how positive I am about our head football coach, how positive I am about our general manager, about the changes that have happened in this organization, and the positive impressions I’ve had with our owners who seem to want to to win. Uh, and those are all steps in the right direction. And so, um, I’m not I spoke to team I spoke to the team earlier this year and my message was you have to have a mentality to play the long game. And uh I said to them, you know, you might have beat me yesterday, you might beat me today. Hell, you might even beat me tomorrow, but you will not beat me in the end. And you have to have the power to be unstoppable. But the issue with that message is that sometimes you feel like there’s a lack of depth perception and you’re you’re keeping a goal far away from yourself that you might never accomplish that and you just perpetuate the fact that you’re never going to get there. And so I I I then reminded the guys that if we could go back in four or five football games, even the game yesterday, and have two or three plays back out of a hundred football plays on offense, defense, and special teams, you know, you’re one or two% away from winning all those games. One or two plays back and we’d be a completely different we’d have a completely different result in wins and losses. And so you have to have the mental toughness to play the long game, but you also have the maturity to recognize that it’s not as far away as you think. Number one, this is a player who absolutely has to be back next year. Do not tell me about a cap casualty on a team that is swimming in cap space after their big trade deadline of selling off pieces like Quinnon Williams and Sauce Gardner. I don’t want to hear it. Not only that, he should be a captain on this defense. He is a clear leader on this team. He was a captain with the Minnesota Vikings. And I think after losing Quinnon Williams, I know they have a linebacker right now who is their captain. I don’t know if that linebacker should be here in 2026, but what I do know is that Harrison Phillips should be here next year and is definitely a clear leader in that locker room. But essentially what he is saying is the Jets are closer to figuring this out than what their perception is. And for me, I think it’s hard to hear that as a Jets fan, right? as a team a fan of a team that is two and nine that just clinched their 10th straight losing season. It’s hard to hear that as a Jets fan who has watched their team miss the playoffs for 15 straight years. However, from the player side of this and from the organizational side of this, this is the only mindset that you could possibly have going forward, right? I I don’t again, and I’m not a part of the organization. I am a Jets fan. That’s all all I am. All I have ever claimed is that I I am a Jets fan who just likes talking about this team. I don’t feel comfortable sugar coating it and saying that oh everything is is just completely fine and just believing this group because they honestly haven’t earned the benefit of the doubt yet. They haven’t. I don’t think it’s fair to just completely go in blind faith and say that Aaron Glenn and Darren Muji without a doubt are going to be the guys who turn it around. At the same time, being the everything sucks and will always suck because it’s the Jets isn’t fair to this regime who has been here for less than a year, right? And is clearly tearing it down with what they did at the trade deadline and what they’ve done really since August where they’ve made a lot of trades. Um, they’ve brought in a lot of new players. I think that’s going to continue into 2026 and I don’t have an issue with how they’ve handled this, right? Like they’re you bring in Darren Muji and you bring in Aaron Glenn to build this team in their own vision and we can hope as fans that they are going to be the ones who turn it around. And I think they’ve shown, you know, some some signs of progression from where they were in the beginning of the year to where they are now. I mean, two and two in their last four games, uh, after just an abysmal start to the the season there, right after their first what, seven games where they started 0 and7. I think that’s what you want to hear from the organizational side. I like him a lot. He’s one of my favorite players on this team truly. I hope that the team does have this buyin around him and that with the strong draft and off season of turnover, they can start to make a real push at ne, you know, next year turning a corner. And a big part of that is going to be what is their plan at the quarterback position? Is it something they attack in 2026 or 2027 or go with a veteran route or a trade, a signing, whatever, right? But I I I like the perspective that Harrison Phillips shared to the team and I think from the team perspective having that mindset of you know football’s a crazy game and they are a few plays away from having a completely different season and different buyin level right and I don’t want to see this this team or or Aaron Glenn and the staff lose the locker room right? Like it’s very challenging when you’re a head football coach of a team that’s losing games. It’s very easy for the locker room to get away from you and the buyin to not be there. But one thing that I absolutely think you have to give Aaron Glenn credit for is he hasn’t lost the buyin. And you know, another losing season of that in 2026 can start to change things, but he has the belief of the team. He has the belief of the owner right now. The issue is he doesn’t fully have it with the fan base yet. And a part of me understands it, right? And like I said at the beginning, I think, you know, if you’re in a spot where, you know, they got to prove it and they got to earn it, that is totally fair to be all the way out on them and be like, “Yeah, this guy sucks and is never going to figure it out. He’s just not it.” That I think is unfair. that I think is a completely unfair stance to have. Uh I also don’t think it’s fair on the on the flip side of that to go everything this guy says and does is the gospel and we’re going to and everything’s going to be fine. We’re going to absolutely turn it around. You have a right to be skeptical. You’d be crazy not to after the last 15 years of Jets football, the last 10 years of losing seasons. But one thing that I think for sure is I don’t know how the Jet how close they actually are to figuring this out, but I think they absolutely have figured out who their defensive captain should be in 2026. It should be Harrison Phillips. Thank you so much for tuning in. I’m Matt Ori. 1. Eh, next year maybe. At least they’re playing hard still. We’ll see if they lose the next one how they take it. They still make backbreaking mistakes that lose games because they have to play perfect to win and that’s almost impossible.

  2. Love whT Harrison, said. Agree with your perspective Matt. Many have dumped on AG and Mougey and have not given them a fair shake. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt right now and buying in. My eyes are wide open( been a Jets fan, since 1978). IF THEY KEEP GEINGING IN CHARACTER GUYS WITH TALENT, LIKE THIS MAN, I'M IN.

  3. I think Harrison Phillips is right. The have an o line. The have a running backs Garrett Wilson looks like WR3 Mentchie
They have Mason Taylor. They have Jowon Briggs J J Will Phillips Brownlee
Steven's AZ Thomas is serviceable. I think the need first round talent at safety
Keep Quincy Willuams I would trade Sherwood and draft another middle linebacker

  4. I believe the turn around is close. Something solid is being built here. Not a quick fix, not a all in season, but young, sustainable success. The pieces are here. Coaching is coming along and everyone is getting time to grow together. Hope it continues and there are no hasty changes.

  5. Let’s talk about a VERY VERY high point about this new regime now minus a couple head scratchers with the off-season by keeping Allen Lazard and bringing in Justin Fields. Everyone else that they’ve brought in talent, wise via trade or drafted has been very impressive to me.Love the WRs I mean the separation is something we only get to see GW make imagine with some other guys that create that type of separation!?!!!? Been Great running the ball and with a pretty bare defense they’re much much improved.. I believe in AG and I believe next year we will see a BRAND NEW Jets team.

  6. As someone who has had season tickets since 1979, I’ve heard it all before. It’s all just talk until it’s proven, and this ownership has no clue. In fact, the top elements of this organization (including coaches, GMs) have yet to prove anything, save for a couple of years with Rex Ryan. Everything else is just blowin hot air and BS.

  7. Making Harrison Phillips a captain is something I could agree on. For next year perhaps but not sure about the following years. He was after all a captain at the Vikings but never at the Bills who drafted him.

Phillips may be better then some of the captains named for this season which were – Fields, Sherwood, McCrary-Ball, Qn Williams, AVT and G Wison… AVT is always injury prone and not a good example while Fields, Sherwood, McCrary-Ball were never captain material. Only Qn Williams and G Wilson in my opinion deserved the title.

I guess some Jets fans have forgotten some of the best NY Jets captains of yesteryear amongst others – Namath, Klecko, Revis, C Martin, Mawae, Mangold. Those are the types of captains the Jets need. Does Phillips reach that high bar? I doubt it but he's at least serviceable.

Since they will still be in rebuilding mode in the next couple of years, why not pick a DT, a DB an FS and a LB in the next 2 NFL Drafts who could be an instant starters like Membou.

I'd like to see young talented players whose career started with the Jets besides current captain G Wilson like – J Johnson, B Hall, Tippman, W McDonald, Fashanu, Membou and M Taylor be considered as captain. Hopefully they will become Jets for life although that's a real steep hill to climb.

    Anyway, just my 2-cents worth.

  8. People forget how many times last year the Jets were unprepared and didn't even show up and were blown out in games under Robert Saleh!
Despite having inferior talent to most of their opponents this year, they are more prepared and playing hard for AG! Other than a early (2nd game) against the Bills with the new regime, they've basically been in every game, and the final scores are not as bad as they've seemed! It's been one or two plays here or one play there that has made the scores worst than they really were! AG and Mougey need a little time! They are building it their way, and it takes time! I think they are headed in the right direction, even though the record doesn't reflect it this year!
