Justin Herbert On Bye Week & Hampton | LA Chargers
How was your five week? It was good. Um, you know, I got some time off and, uh, you know, I thought it was good for everyone to get their bodies back and, um, you know, refocus and re redial in. How much, uh, better physically do you feel now as opposed to, uh, after basketball? Yeah, better. You know, I think with every day, um, you know, you get better and, um, you know, I think it was good for everyone to to have that week off and to get their bodies back and, you know, it’s a long season. I thought the bye-week came at a good time for us. So, what do you think you guys need to do to find consistency over the final six games here? Yeah, just got to go execute. You know, that’s uh converting on third down, um scoring points in the red zone and limiting turnovers. How good was it to have Amari back there practice today? Yeah, it’s good to see him back out there. You know, he he brings a different level of uh energy to our team and um you know, we saw how special he was early in the season and um you know, I know he’s been battling to get back out there and doing everything he can. So, um, it was just good to see steps forward and and to see him back out there. How much did you, if at all, dive into self scouting over the bye, or is it more for you just taking a break and getting away? Yeah, personally, I I kind of took some time off to uh, you know, uh, it’s we’ve been going for a long time. I think uh since July 13th and uh you know I think since then we’ve been full speed and um yeah obviously it was it was a tough game but I think it was best for us to you know kind of take that week and you know refocus up and and get back to ourselves and um you know for me it was it was just to uh kind of take a deep breath um and then we’ll go back and we’ll watch the stuff and we watch the game and um all the games and and uh you know I think as long as we’re learn from them moving forward I I think we’re in a good spot. Everyone got back uh yesterday. Just what’s been the message from the the coaching staff as far as what they saw during the by from a self guiding standpoint, improvements that need to be made, things that you’ve done well. What’s been the message? Yeah, I think it’s kind of been the same stuff that we’ve, you know, we’ve said week after week. And, um, you know, I got to do a better job of not turning the ball over, not taking those sacks. And, um, you know, I think when we’re we’re in rhythm and we’re moving the ball, you know, I think we’re playing pretty well. And we’ve definitely have some had some good games offensively. And, you know, I think it’s just up to us to find that rhythm and consistency and, uh, just to keep pushing the ball forward. From a a turnover standpoint, as you sort of like looked back on that, you got away with just you mentioned the turnover specifically. Have you seen a difference at all in in how you’ve played from a decision-m standpoint? Do you look at the turnovers and see some flukiness, you know, whether it was the, you know, picking the Giants game where, you know, a lot of fell overs or the batted passes. How have you sort of approached looking at the turnovers so far this season? Yeah, I think you just watch them individually and you understand that, you know, there there have been a few uh there have been a few poor decisions. There have been a few batted at the line of scrimmage. There’s really nothing you can do about it. um you know whether that’s trying to find a spot to get through the the defensive line. Um and then there’s one you know in the Jacksonville game that I just overthrew and uh those are the ones that you’d love to have back and those are ones you need to be really critical of yourself and um you know I think those are the ones where you put your you put the team in jeopardy and and you can’t turn the ball over like that. So that’s just one of those things that you have to watch individually and um be critical about. J said today that Jamari an option at at tackle you have to play there tackle in 2022. Um what do you remember about that and what did he sort of provide there on the outside for you? Yeah, Jamari uh you know we’re thankful to have a guy like that who’s who’s able to play guard, who’s able to play tackle and um you know I’m not quite sure what the exact plan is. Um but uh if he’s out there we feel comfortable with him and we know he’s he’s a he’s a gamer. He’s going to go out there and he’s going to make plays and he’s going to do a good job battling. Um but uh you know I think that’s something that we’ll we’ll see throughout the week. Um the numbers show that you guys have been pretty good when you’ve gotten into some heavier personnel 13 22 multiple tight end sets. Um what do you what have you seen from the offense and some of those uh packages whether it’s running passing? I think it’s allowed you guys to maybe be be successful in some of Yeah. Um I think that could be uh attributed to being able to run the ball as well out of those packages and I think having a good play action game out of that is is uh holding the defense accountable. So, when you have all three of those, maybe that’s one of the reasons why the pass game has been so good out of that personnel. Um, you know, I think we’ve been really good running the ball with Tucker and Scott out of the back field like that. So to have those guys being able to do both and then catch passes out of the back field, um you know, I think it helps us do um you know, anything that we want offensively.

He’s a very talented football player, and seems like an even nicer young man, his parents must be proud of his character.

This kid isn’t having fun. He’s getting destroyed. It’s embarrassing for the organization and yet they don’t do dick about it. Roman runs that same crap, Harbaugh doesn’t demand change, and Devlin hasn’t developed any of these guys.
They took the week off we're cooked
Protect j herbivore
He says the same thing week after week. Take care of the ball, make better decisions when he passes, convert better on 3rd downs, etc… I know he wouldn't ever do this. But I think the O line and back up o liners need for him to in as a subtle way as possible. He needs to call them out. Instead of him always taking the blame for the shyty play by the offense!! Mack kinda does it but he doesn't mention names. Say something like if I had a little more time to get off a pass maybe we'd be able to go deep more often?? Idk, but somethings git to be done or said to them about how fukn shyty they play!! True we don't know what's said in private but it's obvious that's never happened otherwise they'd most definitely be playing better.
I just love this kid. Truly hope that the Herbert and the rest of team become what they are capable of. Excited to see their future.
I want to see him get mad at the oline
HAMPTON IS PRACTICING!!! LETS GOOO ⚡⬆
