[McCaffrey] “At the trade deadline, the Red Sox were tied to Minnesota Twins starter Joe Ryan, but they couldn’t line up on a package for the 29-year-old. At the time, the Red Sox did not want to include a big league outfielder in the deal, and the Twins were not interested enough in the proposal”

  1. Jesus, more outfielders? What’s this FO’s fetish with collecting them? Apparently we have no other pressing roster needs.

  2. A competent GM will 100% take advantage of Fail-vey and company this off-season and at the deadline. They know working with him is like when the older brothers would scam the younger brother out of his good baseball cards for squat in return.

  3. I know Dan Hayes/Gleeman did mention this sporadically after the deadline but think it would be worth bringing up again

    I have a few thoughts

    1. I really dislike the current FO approach of getting players that are MLB ready. It says that they believe they can compete which is 100% wrong. It also means we arent maximising our return with good, young players

    2. Duran and Abreu are the two names that get brought up by the Sox as potential trades. HOWEVER. Both are left handed hitters. Which would suggest the Twins AGAIN were looking to bring in left handed hitting rather than right handed. Unless they went for Raffaela…but why go for a pure centre fielder

Ultimately i really dislike the approach, i dont trust the FO (and ownership obviously), i dont think they are maximising their returns and i dont think they accurately assess the roster that we have.

I appreciate that tanking in the MLB isnt particularly a thing, BUT, selling high and maximising our returns (alongside redesigning our farm approach to hitters) will allow us to get the most chances at hitting on stars.

Not trading Jax for Bradley. Not trading for Outman. To me, both of these moves were egregious. We absolutely could have gotten better returns
