Rangers and Mets trade Semien and Nimmo one-for-one INSTANT REACTION

I love one for one straightup trades. Is this just need for need and the Mets shed some salary which allows them to go after Tucker or someone else? They got Simeon now at second base for three years. The Rangers have a ton of young infielders who they I guess think can do what Simeon’s doing for cheaper and then they get NMO in the outfield because they just got rid of outfielders. So this is kind of need for need. Did they shop these trades around any like it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. Usually you would like this wouldn’t happen. You would shop it around. But if you want to be in on Tucker or Bellinger, I guess you don’t want to land, you got to get this done earlier. Feels like need for need and the Mets are shoring up some money. The Rangers are getting off some money. Is there more to

  1. this was definitely a need for need move but it could absolutely hurt the mets long-term… nimmo had an unquantifiable x-factor in his endless positivity and great clubhouse demeanor, and I'm worried about that missing here on out.

  4. Bad contract for bad contract. They do this in the nba all the time. Must be so fun to negotiate. “Hey, we have an expensive outfielder that we don’t really need. We need a second baseman. You have a really expensive second baseman and you need an outfielder. Boom. We’re geniuses.”

  8. Coming from a Jays fan who thought Springer was done, dont be so quick to think Marcus is done. Put him in front of Soto where he will see more fastballs and he could for sure bounce back to a 30 homer guy. He also plays great defense and plays like everyday

  14. Can’t continue with Nimmo McNeil Alonso Vientos Soto defense. Change it up. Last chance to move Nimmo before they’re stuck with him. Think we’ll all miss the leadoff Nimmo walk and sprint to first. Hasn’t been that player in years

  15. Rangers want to stay under the lux tax. They also have like no bodies in their bullpen. Basically clearing to sign another big league reliever is my guess.

  21. Yes there’s more to this. Rangers have stated they need to trim current payroll and that’s what they did. Mets get the better defender at the more premium position while dumping an aging player at the least important position on the field, while also getting out from a bad contract 2 years sooner

  23. Mets salary goes up this year with this trade. Jomboy is like the fifth youtube video to get it wrong. Mets Cohen tax goes up millions in short term. It's in the longterm the last couple years of contract the Mets shed money.

  25. The Mets have to pay a guy over $20M a season in his age 36 and 37 years either way, by doing this trade they get that over with a couple years sooner

  26. This feels like the beginning of the Mets making the same kinds of mistakes that the Yankees did that left them being a too righty-heavy lineup.

  27. The most interesting aspect is that Rangers now have a hole at 2B. And as a Jays fan I sure hope they won't nick a second Jays' FA in 4 years to play 2B for them. (Even their contracts could be similar)

  31. Watching a rangers broadcast during an appeal, the camera showed the guy walking out with headsets for the umpires. Tom Grieve said “ I got traded for him once”
