EVANDER KANE TRADE TALK BACK TO THE EDMONTON OILERS? CANUCKS POISED TO MAKE A MOVE
Fun fact, I got this jersey at a Marshalls in Seattle like multiple years ago. And it was quite interesting because it was on sale for like 20 bucks US. I mean, a few years ago, it wasn’t as bad as it is now. And it was one of many Alberta hockey jerseys that just happened to have existed there. This was before the Seattle Kraken were even a team. This was like a long time ago. And there were a bunch of Calgary jerseys, Army Calgary jerseys, normal Oilers home and away jerseys, the bright orange ones with the dark blue. And uh I settled on this one because I was like, “Hey, you don’t really see an Alberta jersey in Seattle every day, so why not pick it up for 20 bucks?” And now it’s still in the collection. And that’s exactly why we are busting it out here today because as I said in the last video, I wanted to continue talking about Vancouver Conucks trade ideas because these are just not going to go away. And I’ll admit it is a little bit premature. I could be making a big mistake by making this video because the guy in question maybe could get traded by the time this video is uploaded and published and public on YouTube. So, at that point, if it does happen, then hey, we’ll make another video commentary talking about it. But for now, let’s talk about our favorite, newest Vancouver Canuck forward, Evander Kane. Hell yeah. I know y’all had a positive reaction to that one, eh? Yeah, I’m tired. Being a Canucks fan is hard. But Evander Kane was a pretty notorious Vancouver Conucks pickup in the off season because the Vancouver Conucks essentially traded away Vasilip Pod Coulson for this guy. They traded Pods for a fourth and then they traded that fourth back to Edmonton for a Vanderane. A guy who at this point in time is making $5.125 million a year in a contract season at 34 years old. Now, we all understand the warts and history that Evander Kane comes with. He had a lot of controversy on and off the ice over the past few years. I will say this will remain a constant in my analysis of Aander Kane is the fact that he actually did fix himself up in a very positive way in Edmonton. His time with the Oilers was seen as nothing really but a positive with the exception of the injury troubles. This guy was helping out in the community. This guy was a very beloved face in that organization’s fan base. And I think Oilers fans really gave Evander Kane a level of love and support that he never really received in other NHL markets either in Buffalo or in San Jose due to various off ice issues and problems with let’s just say his on- ice consistency. Now the on ice consistency issues weren’t that bad in Edmonton. I think they were actually were a lot worse in previous organizations, but they’ve seemed to have come back in Vancouver. And if we head over to the profile, you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about here. Evander Kane was half a point a game for the Oilers in the playoffs last year, zero points in the regular season because he didn’t play any games. He had 44 points in 77 games in 2023 2024, including 24 goals. So just as far back as two seasons ago, Evander Kane was still an effective Edmonton Oiler point production-wise and a lot of Oilers fans admired the agitative qualities, the bite that he played with, the drive. You can say that a lot of that is missing in Edmonton right now, too. But Evander Kane in Vancouver has 36 penalty minutes in 23 games. He’s got 11 points. He’s on pace for about 40 points and 11 goals, which admittedly is not terrible. Like that number, being on pace for 40 points in a full 82 game NHL season is not bad until you realize that Evander Kane gets played every minute of every gosh darn game. He gets 20 plus minute games pretty regularly. Now lately, it doesn’t seem to have actually happened that way, but he’s had a few 19minute games in a row. He has been one of the most played Vancouver Conucks forwards in the top six. And when you combine this with the complete overhaul of offensive zone penalties and plays that die on his stick, this is where you really start to see Vancouver Conucks fans turn on Aander Kane. A guy that really needed to get off to a good start in order to get that fanfare. And quite frankly, a guy who didn’t really come as advertised. He was advertised to potentially being an enforcer who could step up for guys like Elias Patterson and Quinn Hughes, but unfortunately it doesn’t really seem like he’s done that as much as he probably should have up to this point in the year. And now as a pending UFA, he’s included on a bunch of trade lists and we’re talking about him potentially getting shipped out and we are expanding more so on a particular hit talked about by Rick Dollywal. Let’s go out there and take a look at this over here. Dollywall was brought on to Real Kipper and Bourne yesterday, one of the main Sports Net broadcasts in Toronto. And he went out there and said this about Vancouver and Evander Kane. He drives the fan base here nuts with the penalties. He’s one of the guys that when the Canucks sent out the memo last night, he’s one of the guys that’s going to get moved. There’s no question. He’s got six goals in his last 40 to 50 games. And that was talked about on the Toronto broadcast. Puck Mama goes out there and asks, “Honestly, who would take him?” Maybe teams that can think he can bring some grit, even though he’s actually got 54 less hits this year than Sherwood and is actually hitting less than he has in the past 3 to four years. Now, where exactly do the Edmonton Oilers come up in this conversation? Well, let’s head over to another tweet posted by I hate this team pod because they went out there and said this. The Oilers need a Vanderane back. He was the straw that stirred the drink. And this was posted yesterday during the Oilers total demolition at the hands of the Dallas Stars. In the midst of that hockey contest, you saw folks going out there and saying things like this. Hey, they need to get a Vander Kane back. this guy can provide some life into this franchise. He can get the energy up and he brings intangibles that the Oilers could use. And then if you go out there and read the comments, hey, take him, please. We’ll retain 50% for future considerations. They can have him back. If I’m the Canucks, I’d rather have the fourth it cost to acquire him. My gosh, you can take Evander Kane for free. We’ll throw in a bag of pucks. He’s terrible. Take him, bro. He hates it here. to Canucks fans, he’s the stick that keeps getting into opponents faces. And uh yeah, don’t tell Kandre Miller you went out there and said that because that’s absolutely the case. Evander Kane has been one of the more careless and just inefficient offensive contributors to the Vancouver Conucks this season. He’s played so subpar compared to what a lot of us, myself included, thought he would be able to bring. I was looking at it super optimistically, too. And I think I’m guilty of doing this for a lot of Vancouver Conucks players, especially this season where it’s like, yeah, no, Demco is a Vzna caliber guy. As long as he’s in, he’s good. Filipedo has speed and he’ll excel under an Adam foot system. As long as he’s in, he’s good. Evander Kane, oh, he missed out on the whole season last year, but he was half a point a game in the playoffs. And to be fair, he’s half a point a game in the Vancouver Conucks season now, but that’s because he plays more than any other forward. I look at this and I say, damn. Like everything that should have gone well for Vancouver, if you look at the best case scenario for this hockey team, it just didn’t. Evander Kane’s taken too many penalties. He’s not standing up for the guys that he needs to. He’s looking ineffective out there. He doesn’t make good passes. He has the play die on his stick more often than not. He is just careless with the puck and with his stick. Ilas Patterson’s looking amazing, but the rest of the team can’t follow suit because there’s nobody else that is near his caliber on forward that can step up. You don’t have somebody like a JT Miller anymore or a Bo Horvat. I mean, Quinn Hughes is about to leave. We’re all talking about these narratives around Vancouver and now it’s like, yeah, no, these top tier forwards that the team had once upon a time, they now got shelled out for defense. Okay, that’s fine. and heronic and Marcus Pey, no disrespect to them, but the defensive systems are a total mess, which is ridiculous when you think about it. Like, yeah, no, Adam Foot was a really good player and a good defenseman when he was a National Hockey League player. Now, as a coach, I mean, he wasn’t a good WHL coach. Now, he’s an NHL coach for the first time. He’s not looking too good there. I get it. He was dealt a bad hand with injuries, but man, the systems suck. And man, the Canucks are not playing well. And maybe they’ll go out there and actually show up today. Who knows? They have a road trip. They’re going over to Cali. Maybe things actually look good today and we come back later at night talking all this positive talk about how they played. But for now, seems like the Evander Kane trade talk and the trade update is that yeah, no, it looks like he’s going to be moved inevitably. Could the Oilers be a fit? Folks are linking Evander Kane back to the Edmonton Oilers and there already was some conversations about that that we’ve discussed earlier in the month as well. kane for podkolzin
He should've never came here. But I guess it is not too late if The Canucks trade him now.
Honestly I'm impressed that Evander hasn't cause any trouble yet in the lockerroom
I knew right when we signed kane we ate 5 million for nothing and he would be back on oilers for a 4th/5th by trade deadline. Allvin deserves more hate.
It’d be nice to have Kaner back (one of my favorite Oiler back then) but hes nowhere near what the Oilers need right now,and that is defense and some sort of legitimate goaltending.
Kane we want here he is the only guy hitting when it's needed. Defends better than many. Hughes,Garland, Sherwood . Myers to Nashville to have a nice place to live in. He will lift no trade for Nashville. Even if it's a fourth rd pick.
The main issue I have is the penalties. I can live with the low production if he's making power moves and creating space. The penalties are infuriating
Hey Chang !
