Breaking down Matthew Stafford’s favorable situation with LA Rams | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
Yep. You see it? Hey, this Yeah, get in position for a fade. They got a duo coming. Fball. Fball. I can’t. Hey, I just told you. I just explained it to you. I watch film. [Music] Y’all too cold, bro. You cold, boy. Kobe Turner playing the role of Tony Romo and guessing the play before the play happened on Sunday. Another touchdown to Devonte Adams. I think that it’s a generally safe bet to predict a touchdown pass to Devonte Adams on pretty much every Rams play. It really is amazing how he’s gone in there and combined with Matthew Stafford and had the season that he’s had. And I was thinking about this yesterday If anyone would have had any idea how good Matthew Stafford was going to be this year, it wouldn’t have just been the Raiders and the Giants lining up, it would have been 10 teams. It would have been 15 teams. They would have been lined up out the door like they were for Pton Manning in 2012, Chris. Well, why weren’t they? That’s the question. You know, why? Like, you know that first off, you’re right on the Devonte Adams thing, 100%. Like, if they’re inside the five yard line, they’re gonna throw a fade route to Devonte Adams, right? You don’t have to watch film to know that. But but at the same time, I’m I mean, I’m with you. I know there’s and and I think your point’s right, but I mean, at the same time, we saw last year. You were there on the field. I mean, you you saw I mean, it wasn’t like you were like, “Oh gosh, this is the last game. He’s decrepit. I think we need to get him a wheelchair after this game. He might not be able to play ever again.” You were sitting there in awe going, “Oh my gosh.” And then we were sitting there in awe at the end of the game watching Matthew Stafford throw lasers through the snow and the wind and we were going, “Oh my gosh, he’s about to beat the Eagles. I beat the Eagles.” So, you know, there’s a little bit there of like, why the hell wasn’t the rest of the league in on it a little bit more and realize how awesome he still is. And when I first saw him on the field prior to the playoff game last year in the divisional round, he wasn’t even doing anything. He was just standing there in uniform and there was just like this aura emanating from Matthew Stafford. It’s so funny to hear you say that. And the and the Rams and the Rams had settled into this borderline ambivalent year to year to year. Like when Kirk Cousins left the Vikings, the key factor was the Falcons were giving him multi-year financial security. Not multi-year playing time security, but multi-year financial security. You know, they pulled the rug out from under him six weeks later. Stafford’s been content to go to year year to year. And it it makes me wonder what happens after this year. If Stafford says, “All right, we’re going year to year. I want to leave.” Oh, no, no, no. You’re under contract through 2026. No, it’s not year to year anymore, Matthew. We’ve changed our mind. You got McVey talking about him playing 10 more years. I know. Hilarious, right? If anything, if anything, there’s going to be another one of those contracts that when you throw it all together, I mean, he’s already it’s it’s either him or Aaron Rogers in any given moment, but I think it’s currently Matthew Stafford as the all-time king in NFL career earnings, and he could get another multi-year contract out of this. I would submit if he’s on the open market this year, he gets three, four years at 45 to 50 million a year. Yeah, it’s interesting, right? I mean, or more. He’s he’s certainly worth that. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. Uh and and you know what we said last year, even though he was flirting with a few teams when we was in the process of flirting with the teams, you know, I know we both were kind of sitting here saying, and I certainly was, of like, why would you want to leave that situation you’re in right now? They’re ready, right? The Rams are here. The Rams are set up to where you go, wait, they’re not going anywhere. Like the Eagles, they’ve set up their team to where you go, wow, young nucleus. They got a lot of good players there. They’re going to have the same team, same roster for the next two or three years. So, they’re going to be able to make something happen here. And it is, it’s funny. It does feel like it went from like, oh, I don’t know, Matthew Stafford’s injury is back in training camp. This will probably be the last year. I don’t know how this will go to where now it’s like, well, he’s going to win the MVP and he should play three or four more years. So, probably the truth is somewhere in between there. But, as long as Stafford can stay healthy, as we’ve talked about, he’s got an alltime arm. He’ll be able to throw in a wheelchair when he’s 75 years old. That ain’t going anywhere. It’s just about the body holding up. Hi, it’s Mike Florio. Thanks for watching PFT on YouTube. Hit subscribe for the latest news and analysis from Pro Football

Setting records since he started, going back at least to 2011, this guy has then this great all of his career. It just shows how good teammates and a good set of coaches alter a QB's accomplishments. I'm so happy for him that he was able to leave the perennial losers in Detroit and find a team and coach who appreciate him and are willing to build a team around his talents.
HoF for sure, maybe even first ballot. And if he plays just one more year he could retire 5th all time in passing yards.
Love the opening clip of the Conductor, Kobie Turner! He deserves his shine as a leader of that D-Line.
Stafford won't be this hood without Sean McVay and he won't have such awesome culture with other teams. He will stay and play until he can't anymore.
Stafford was always really good.. just needed that coach to bring it to being great
If old man Stafford would have been behind the Raiders O-line he would be in intensive care on life support at best. It also helps having Puca, Adams, and coach McVay.
The Rams D has given up very few points. Playing QB with a lead helps.
Someone in the stats department might want to double check this, but I'm pretty sure that Stafford has the opportunity to do something no other QB has done in the Super Bowl era.
With a strong finish to this season, and either a great year next year, or two good seasons, Matthew Stafford could become the all-time passing leader for the Rams, while also being the passing leader for the Lions. This would make him the first QB to do this for two different franchises in the Super Bowl Era. However, another former Lions QB, Bobby Layne, did accomplish this feat after he got traded to the Steelers.
If Stafford does it, he might be the last guy to ever do it.
The reason teams weren't lining up for Stafford is the Stafford hate is real. Up until now he's been one of the most disrespected stars in league history and I still don't get why? I'm glad he's finally being given his due, I really hope he caps the season off with a Super Bowl win, that would be perfection.
It's absolutely KILLIN' Mike Florio inside that he can't come up with an excuse to hate on Matthew Stafford right now. 🤣🤣🤣
As a QB you need the right coach and system. Stafford and Mcvay is a winning combo
Stafford will NOT be on any “open market” this year. He will play with Rams next year and as long as he wants to.
Stafford is the most like able player in the NFL.
Interesting how none of you inderstand Stafford is retiring as a Ram. There is no other hc he wants to play for and McVay does not want any other qb
Huh?!🤔 Mike Florio hates sports ? Hates older players that are doing well? And constantly is trying to find a way to directly or indirectly insult said players. Sooo it’s great to hear him effusive regarding Stafford and Davante.
Matthew Stafford is playing like a prime 2006~2007 Peyton Manning…..Love seeing my Rams and Stafford finally getting some respect and recognition 👏🏾👏🏾
Lovin' the hair, Simms
Where are all the clowns that thought jalen hurts, jordan love, JD5, herbert & cj stroud were better?
Everything you say about players in the is absolutely wrong!
Get off your unearned millions and get off sports talk
Stafford is still somehow underrated and I don’t understand it. (Lions fan here)
