James Harrison GOES OFF On Mike Tomlin And The Pittsburgh Steelers | The Jim Rome Show

I think we all know that right now we live in a world where lava slinging is a thing. It’s a hot take world, a hottake factory. And I know everybody is turning up the volume and doing what they can to make sure that they’re seen and heard and they get some run and they get some attention. I mean, there is a real battle going on for the hearts and minds of the American public. We know this. This is why there’s so much screaming and yelling on a lot of broadcasts and platforms and podcasts. All right, we know this. However, what James Harrison just did to the Pittsburgh Steelers feels a little bit different. And yes, he did do it on his Debo and Joe podcast with Joe Hayden. So, he does have a platform. He is competing with everybody else who has a platform. Except it doesn’t feel like James Harrison did this for clicks or for attention. Does James Harrison seem like or has he ever seemed like the kind of guy who cares about clicks and attention? No. James Harrison feels more like the kind of guy who stands on business. The kind of guy who says what needs to be said. And that’s what I heard when I listened to him unload on the Steelers coaching staff. It felt like real raw authentic emotion like it’s been something that he’s been watching and it’s been building and building and building and then that ticking time bomb just went off and my dude left a mushroom cloud hanging over the Steelers hanging over all of the Berg. Now I know Steeler fans were pissed. I know they’ve been pissed. They’ve been pissed and they’ve been pissed for the last few years. I know because I’ve been arguing with them for the last couple of years. They’re pissed. I’m just not sure that any of them are as pissed as this guy. Nor am I sure that any of them are as qualified to be as pissed as this guy. What are we talking about here? Will this live up to what I’ve been building up? Yes. Yes, it will. Check out what the twotime Super Bowl champ with the Steelers, the former DPO, the former Steeler defensive captain, had to say about this current Steeler defense defense soft. Oh, I’m tired of seeing the offensive lineman pushing our D line two, three yards deep. We’re undisiplined or poorly coached or both. We have a horrible defensive scheme. It’s trash. It’s garbage. We can’t adjust at halftime. It’s non-existent. Or we’re just being outgoed or both, my man. Damn. Is that all? I mean, they’re saying the quiet part out loud. And then there’s climbing to the highest rooftop in all of Pittsburgh and yelling it as loud as you possibly can. Soft, undisiplined, poorly coached, trash scheme, garbage, can’t make adjustments or are just badly out coached or both. Man, that sounds to me like a dude who used to anchor this once proud and great defense and no longer likes or respects this once proud and great defense. In fact, it sounds like he hates it. Seriously, can you say anything worse about a defense? Did he leave anything out? Can there possibly be a worse indictment of a defense than that? And remember, he’s talking about the most expensive defense in the NFL by a lot. They’re the most expensive defense, but they’re also a bottom five defense in terms of yards allowed per game. They’re the most expensive defense, but they’re also the second worst pass defense in the NFL. I guess that’s what happens when you’re soft, undisiplined, poorly coached, have a trash scheme, are garbage, and can’t make any adjustments. Hey, I’m not saying that. James Harrison is, but I’m not saying he’s wrong. Now granted, Steeler fan has been saying all of this for a minute now, just not quite as aggressively, just not quite as loudly, but I’ll give Steeler fan this much. They’ve seen the writing on the wall for quite some time. And for a minute or maybe a minute and a half, I did not really agree with it. After all, Tomlin never did have a losing season. And the next player that I speak to, this is a lot of what I base it on. The next player that I speak to that plays for or played for Mike Tomlin who has anything negative to say about him is the first. Then again, I’m not sure that I’ve ever spoken to James Harrison. Certainly not recently. On top of that, that playoff win drought got to eight seasons and suddenly it’s not just the Steeler offense that’s painful to watch, but the Steeler defense as well. In fact, that might even be worse. And they’ve got no plan of quarterback, which makes it hard to defend any of it, including Tomlin, or feel good about any of it, including Tomlin. Clearly, Harrison does not feel good about any of it. He’s not optimistic either. He’s making that pretty clear. He also thinks that heads are going to roll if this season keeps going where it looks like it’s going to go. Now, interestingly enough, he seems to think the one dude who will still be around even after all the potential house cleaning is the one guy that we’re really talking about. It’s going to be some furniture moving in the offseason. If we mess around and have a losing season, it might be a whole new offensive and defensive staff. The only person that’s going to be there is Mike Tomlin. We on year eight without a playoff win. 23 years, only went four years without a playoff win. Bill Cower 15 years, only went three years without a payoff win. We the Pittsburgh Steelers. We damn sure ain’t looking like it. Everybody thinks that when they put on that uniform, they not they just instantly turn nice. No, it’s work that come with that. You got to put the work in. I tell you what, interesting comment, right? Because he’s not wrong. They damn sure are not looking like the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not right now. And if they can’t win a playoff game, there damn will be some furniture moving around. What I don’t understand is why Tomlin would still be there if the bottom falls out on the season and they start moving furniture around. Like the buck has got to stop with the head coach, right? Why wouldn’t it? Yes, I know the Steelers never ever fire head coaches. They wait for them to die or retire. I get this. I understand also they value continuity above all else. I get that. But if we’re moving furniture, why wouldn’t the head coach be a part of said furniture? Why would you not move that guy out? Why not? It’s just gotten way too toxic. Case in point, this rant from James Harrison. When was the last time you remember that guy saying anything publicly? Yeah, I know he’s got a platform, but for that guy to come out like that, the real issue with this rant is that it’s something that I’m sure the vast majority of Steeler fans agree with. They’re just as angry as he is. Tell me I’m wrong, Steeler fan, but I’ve got a feeling that way more of you would tell me that Harrison nailed it, that finally somebody said it, somebody who mattered, somebody that maybe they’ll listen to. I’ve got a feeling every Steeler fan loves every single word that James Harrison uttered except for the ones about Tomlin still being around next year. And that’s exactly what I mean when I say this situation has gotten so toxic to the point of everybody needing a change. Hearing James Harrison go this hard really hammers that point home. And again, I don’t think the guy’s doing it for clicks. I think he loves that team. He takes a lot of pride in the fact that he was one of the standardbearers of what was once a great and proud defense. Look, maybe the Rooney family doesn’t really care much what James Harrison has to say or thinks. I do. Even if he didn’t say anything I didn’t already know, it’s who said it and how he said it. It’s a guy who knows the Steeler culture and when it works and when it doesn’t. It’s a guy who’s won multiple rings with the Steelers. It’s a guy who was an elite player and even a big Tomlin guy. And he couldn’t be more clear that this team damn sure is not looking like the teams that he played for. And he couldn’t be more right. So bottom line to me, short of the Steelers somehow getting into the playoffs and somehow winning playoff games plural, I think it is time for Tomlin and the team to part ways essentially. Short of some kind of miracle, this feels like it finally has run its course. And who is Tomlin hoping is going to work that miracle for him right now? a 41 year old quarterback with a busted hand. Bottom line, I don’t care how much he’s won in the past or how strong a personality he has or or how fast he would get another job. The reality for the Steelers right now is they have not won a playoff game in eight years. It does not look like they’re going to win one anytime soon. The fans are sick and tired of being stuck in the same mediocre place. Simply put, they’re not the Steelers anymore. At least they don’t look it. So, I don’t know who anyone is supposed to blame for all of this except for the head coach. He’s been there 19 years. If nothing changes, nothing changes. And if they don’t go on a run, then there’s not going to be any change in Pittsburgh. Hell, the Ravens, the Ravens are a shadow of themselves. They got off to arguably their worst start ever, and they had no trouble running the Steelers down before Thanksgiving. Coach him up, Mike. Coach him up, Mike. Because for the first time ever, I’m betting your job does depend on it. And I’ve always been the one to say, “What’s wrong with this guy? He’s great. He’s fine. He never loses. We’re the Pittsburgh Steelers. We damn sure ain’t looking like it.” Yeah, he’s not wrong. Number one, not that I’m going to ever argue with Debo, but there’s nothing to argue with Debo about. I’m never going to argue with that guy about anything ever. But in this case, I don’t really see where the guy is wrong or what there is to argue about. I just haven’t seen a guy of that magnitude come out with that energy about that team and that coaching staff. And again, what part of that did he

  1. The Steelers and Patriots were famous for letting guys go before their last deal. Faneca, Harrison and Polamalu to name a few of the bigger names that were moved on from or encouraged to retire. That changed with Big Ben. Tomlin should’ve been gone after the 2017 Jacksonville game. It’s time to break it down, suck for a couple years and try to come back after a new coach or two like the Pats and Broncos have done

  2. Tomlin is the 1st to go, we have already replaced OC and DC and nothing has improved!!! why Because a OC and DC Can only do what the Head Coach allows them to do.

  3. My brother, a Steelers fan, has been saying for around 10 years now, maybe a little longer, that Mike Tomlin is overrated and needs to go. But for most Steelers fans Mike Tomlin is a sensitive subject.

  4. All the OG longtime Steeler players know exactly the problem cause they lived it .TOMLIN IS PREDICTABLE, REMEDIAL THE WORST AT GAMEPLANNING FOR BIG GAMES. HE'S STAYS ON AUTOPILOT!!!

  5. Does Tomlin care about winning anymore? DAMIAN WOODY and HARRISON is right it’s time for Tomlin to go. That defense should be the best in the NFL!

  6. Tomlin should've been gone 5 years ago! MID MIKE is the same shit every year. Rinse and Repeat .500 one and done every year. Mediocrity is what the Steelers have turned into. Clean house it's over for bum ass Tomlin! 🗑🗑🗑. Jim as a long time Steeler fan I've stopped watching, haven't spent any money. No tickets, no gear nothing! Boycotting until Tomlin is gone!

  7. Furniture should have been moved many years ago. House needs cleaned entirely with exception of special team's coach Danny Smith! Everyone else, GONE!

  8. Who does the thumbnails for Rome's channel? It's laughably bad. Looks like a 5th grader's attempt at photoshop. I see channels with 1k followers who look so much more professional.

  9. We can kick and scream all we want, but we all know Rooney will never force Tomlin out no matter what happens. It's definitely not happening after this season because he's close to breaking Chuck Noll's franchise wins record and the draft is coming to Pittsburgh in 2026. Not to mention he's owed two more years on his current contract. So, we're stuck with it for now.

  10. Tomlin is a fraud he only won with Bills men, he will never win another bowl. Hes not an elite coach, what people don’t realize is the Steeler culture made Tomlin look good but he really isn’t a good coach and all those people who been fooled over the years shame on you

  11. The 2025 Steelers D is 1 shy of the franchise record for giving up the most 30+ pt games. They are at 5 now, and I have no doubt they will break the record this yr. Deebo is 100% right. And after nearly 10 yrs without a playoff victory it’s 100% the fault of the top brass. Tomlin has long overstayed his welcome

  12. James Harrison is the only
undrafted player to be named AP
NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
    James has the credibility to
comment on this sad team & he's
    100% right. Harrison's journey from
an undrafted free agent who was
cut multiple times to winning the
    prestigious defensive award & two
Super Bowls is one of the most
    remarkable underdog stories in NFL
    history 🏈 #GOSTEELERS 🤘
