Yankees Trade Rumors HEATING UP – Donovan Deal IMMINENT…

Yankees trade rumors are heating up as reports have revealed that a Brendan Donovan deal is imminent with the New York Yankees having a ton of interest in the All-Star infielder. While also there have been a few pitches that include not just Brendan Donovan being on the trading block, specifically in regards to the New York Yankees as well. And we are going to go over all this, discuss that second player as well who fits the Yankees just beautifully while also discussing Donovan, somebody who the Yankees have now had prolonged interest in, solves a lot of problems for them. But there is a caveat that does bother me specifically and will bother some other Yankee fans as it can make things a little bit difficult in one area. And no, it is not because he plays second base and so does Jazz. So, we will touch on that as well, guys. A lot to go over, but real quick before we jump into it, if you’re part of that 69% that’s not subscribed to Yankees Digest, make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a single New York Yankees update from myself and Alex. We are giving you guys daily Yankees updates on all things New York Yankees. So, if you want to show to your friends that you know ball, this is the place to be and share with them. Don’t gatekeep us. But let’s jump into it, guys. There is a lot to talk about on the Yankees right now because look, as we know, Brendan Donovan has found himself in a whole lot of trade discussions recently. The Cardinals are terrible. Brendan Donovan, though only being four years into his MLB career, is not that young and isn’t a part of this team’s future plans. He’s got a lot of years left locked up, meaning that they can, the Cardinals, they can sell him off for a pretty penny, getting back some highlevel prospects and also being able to cut some money as well. probably being able to trade some other contracts as well with him. Obviously, trading Nolan Aronado is hard because he has a no trade clause and on top of the fact that he’s just really regressing. It does make things difficult. However, Brendan Donovan, there is going to be a slew of teams lined up for him and well, there is. The trademark for Cardinals, Brendan Donovan, is heating up according to MLB Marathon who did say the Yankees, Blue Jays, Mariners are amongst the teams who recently checked in on Brendan Donovan. So despite the fact that Donovan is a second baseman, the Yankees have had absolutely no qualms checking in and seeing what the price is going to look like for Donovan. Somebody who is a very, very talented player and would bring a lot of good to the Yankees. The Yankees have multiple team needs still, and Brendan Donovan would fill a good chunk of them. Now, there have been more reports on this as well as mentioned by John Marosi, who did say that here is about as much trade interest in Brendan Donovan as any position player on the market right now. So, Donovan does have a lot of teams interested in him, which means there’s going to be a bidding war. Question is, are the Yankees going to be willing to be part of that bidding war? Because at the end of the day, we understand Donovan is a second baseman primarily, though he can bounce around the infield. He’s not really a shortstop, but he can bounce around the infield and you can also throw him in the outfield. He’s got a really good arm, so he can jump out there if need be. But there’s also other reasons why Donovan fits the Yankees so perfectly. Look, Donovan, who has also spent time again in left field, he can handle outfield duties, can play a lot of different positions. He can play second base, third base, could probably play right field if you need him to. Could definitely play left field. He’s got a lot of different talents that would be super super helpful for the Yankees. Now, he can just go to third base, and that is what the Yankees would ultimately do with Donovan. They would switch him over to third base. And though he’s not a power hitter whatsoever, the man is a great contact bat, hitting a 287 and getting on base quite well, he adds a lot to a team. Again, he’s not going to add power, but he’s going to get on base. He’s an elite glove who gets on base and really is a great option as a leadoff hitter for the Yankees. The thing is, he’s a lefty. The Yankees who do love their lefties now have a whole lot of them. between Jazz Chisum, Trent Gisham, there’s a lot of lefties, Ben Rice, who they love as their fourhole hitter. They would have to make some adjustments. Both catchers between Rice and Austin Wells are hitting from the left side of things. And we’re going to talk about that in a second. But with that all being sort of the case right here, we see Jonathan who would come in lead off for the Yankees and then that would move Aaron Judge back to second. We know the Yankees like batting Judge second because it gives him a higher chance to get a bat more instead of batting third, but the difference is a little bit minuscule and at the same time Judge does prefer to bat third. At the end of the day, you bat iron judge where you got a bat iron judge. Donovan would also be working with Aaron Judge protection, meaning teams would be more willing to pitch to him, meaning that that batting average would likely go up as we’ve seen with a slew of different players, whether it’s been Cody Bellinger, Juan Sodto. We’ve seen that happen. Now, I would prefer a right-handed contact hitter as our leadoff guy. I’ve said this before. So, Judge can bat third and so the Yankees can try to resign Bellinger or sign Kyle Tucker and bat them second so they could work with judge protection the way that Sodto did. And, you know, came in third in MVP voting in the American League with that iron judge protection. Obviously, he did that with with the Mets, too. Came third in MVP voting in the National League. So, as we understand things, Donovan would be huge for this team. It is going to be about price though at the end of the day considering how many teams do hold a whole lot of interest in him and the Yankees they would be switching his position. Jazz Chisum who did have a better season had a higher war had a better season overall 813 OPS got on base quite well. The batting average was it’s spotty but he also had 31 home runs and 31 stolen base. He’s an he’s an excellent base runner who’s got power in the bat and does so much good for the Yankees. Now Jazz he would move down the batting order a little bit here regardless. I mean, if if Donovan’s leading off, Jazz probably finds himself batting towards the back end. I mean, you’d have Donovan, you’d have Judge third would likely I mean, you could stick Jazz there, but imagining Bellinger or Tucker is on the Yankees with one of them there. They would probably be third with Stanton fourth, Ben Rice fifth, and then you still got Gish, Jazz, and Austin Wells all there. And then things get a little bit difficult. You got three lefties. So, you got the six, seven, eight, and nine hole. And the only guy who’s a righty in there is José Cabayro while Anthony Vulpi’s out. So it makes things that’s when you’re going to have to make things a little bit difficult. If Stanton’s batting or if Ben Rice is batting fifth, then you’d probably stick Jazz at sixth anyway and stick KBI there just to split it up a little bit. But then even 8 N and one, it’s just going to be a slew of lefties. So that’s what makes things sort of difficult with this move. Meaning if the Yankees were to ultimately trade for Brendan Donovan, they would have to find some ways to make things sort of work out a bit more in everyone’s favor. Now, in regards to Donovan though, he’s likely going to get moved and it’s going to be for an interesting price because, as Mark Feinand mentioned, with two years of club control remaining and a healthy arbitration race set for this winner, Donovan is one of the more likely trade candidates of the offseason. The versatile infielder/outfielder can play all over the field, a quality that figures to be appealing to a number of potential suitors. A gold glove winner in the utility spot in 2022. Donovan made his first All-Star team in 2025, finishing the season with 10 home runs, 50 RBI’s, and a 775 OPS while finishing in the top 10% of the league in both width and strikeout percentages, which makes a perfect leadoff hitter for a contending team. And the buzz factor is high as the Cardinals figure to be the most active team on the trade market this winter with Donovan, Nolan Aronado, and Sunonny Gray all being prime candidates to be dealt. The Astros, Yankees, and Guardians are among the teams believed to have interest in the 28-year-old Donovan, giving the Cardinals multiple options to pursue. Now, as we all know, the Cardinals have already been active. They traded Sunny Gray to the Red Sox, which, you know, as Yankee fans, we love considering Sunny Gray cannot pitch either in Boston or New York. So, that’ll be cool. But, and also Aaron Judge completely destroys Sunonny Gray every single time. It’s absolutely hilarious, but it’s Aaron Judge. So, we’ve seen him do that to many a pitcher. But the point is with the Yankees, with this situation, you’d have to find a way to add another righty bat in there somewhere. And obviously, if the Yankees trade for Donovan, they are going to be giving up prospects and probably someone in the major league team is going to get moved for him. It’s not guaranteed who that’s going to be, but there’s definitely going to be a move. And I mean, there’s some stuff that does make sense here. I mean, as we see from Jack Fungo, who’s a very good Yankee fan to follow on Twitter, he did say, “Would what would a Wilson Contrarus plus Brendan Donovan trade provide for the Yankees?” More right-handed lineup in the more more right-handed hitting lineup balance because you get Contrarus, two well above average bats, a starting left fielder in the sense that Donovan can go to left. who could rotate someone who could rotate to third base when Ryan McMahon needs a day Stanton insurance and also Jazz insurance both for injury and no long-term extension if that doesn’t work out. So, it does make sense to go out there and make this move especially if you can land Contraras because he would fit the Yankees so perfectly. First of all, he could also jump out in left field if you absolutely need him to. He is a catcher and could become the Yankees starting catcher if the Yankees try to deal Austin Wells in this trade which honestly would make a good amount of sense for like when we look at them. It would make some sense to deal Austin Wells in this trade along with some other pieces as well because then you get Contrarus who becomes your starting catcher hits from the right side and then again the lineup works a lot better. You could see Donovan Judge, Bellinger, Stanton, Rice, Contrarus, Jazz, Cabayro, Gish, and that looks a lot better. So, there is ways to make this an absolutely stacked up lineup. And I do really love the idea of trying to add contraras who had a 257 batting average, had a 791 OPS, and this is a guy who’s a catcher. So, there’s stuff you could really like here, and you could stick his bat somewhere important. He’s a three-time all-star. He has a World Series to his name in 2016 when he was a lot younger with the Cubs, but he’s not old. He’s still in his early mid-30s. He can catch for a bit and he could give the Yankees a real catcher who’s a very good fielding catcher and also can just handle the hitting quite well. Also, he gives a lot of good to the Yankees and this would be an absolutely awesome deal for them to ultimately make. It would cause some prospects as well. Again, I like Austin Wells being involved in this trade, but also someone like a Henry Lane or a Chase Hampton would likely end up having to be involved in this deal or Brock Salvage. I’m happily willing to give one of them in this deal for the Yankees. The Yankees have 7 million pitchers in their prospects and as starters right now. So, I have no problem giving a back-end top 10 prospect for this type of trade whatsoever and then adding on more prospects as well. It’s just not something that concerns me. In fact, I love the idea. What do you guys think? Do you like it? Do you not like it? Let me know in those comments down below. Like this video, subscribe, turn on post notifications. 1. Interesting, love the content!, Yankees are always on the list of nearly any free agent or trade rumor, but they just dont seem to get the big fish anymore. I am in KC, and am hearing stronger than normal rumblings, especially for the usually frugal royals, that they indeed have a good chance at trading for Donovan with some young pitching depth. This is gaining steam since STL traded away Sonny Gray. But If Donovan doesnt end up in KC, I hope the yankees get him, not LA
