Aaron Jones Talks Practicing with Max Brosmer, J.J. McCarthy, Facing Sam Darnold & Seahawks

Now, what would be like to uh see Sam Darnold again? What was your experience like with him last year? Uh had a great experience with Sam. Uh we came in together, got to grow together, learn the offense, and uh I feel like, uh he helped me become a better player in his time here as well. So, uh definitely excited to see him again. What’s he do well? Why can he step into a system in that short order and make something happen? Uh he’s a pros pro. He’s he’s been doing this for a long time. Uh he can he plays at a high level. He’s very smart. Um he has all the intangibles and he he’s hungry. He he’s I feel like uh Sam’s always out to prove himself as well. I know that it hasn’t been declared that Max is starting yet, but just starting to take practice reps with him. What What did you see from him when you had an ability to watch him either in training camp or just in some of those preseason games? uh somebody who’s dialed in, focused, uh just try trying to take advantage of every rep they get, even if they’re not getting the rep there in the back or staying late after practice. Um I I’ve seen him do that all all training camp just to uh come in, get the system down as a as a rookie. It could be a lot. So, he’s uh kind of getting double the reps every day, staying after practice, running through the script again. Some practices I stay out there uh with them just to give him a guy to use. So, um, you know, hard work pays off and you never know. Uh, you never know. What did you see from him as the the leader of the first team offense today? Uh, just um he came to the huddle, commanded the huddle. Um, just very sharp in his calls and just just focused. Uh, you could tell he’s excited to be um to be going out there, may maybe getting an opportunity out there. So, uh, he’s just doubting he, but he goes about the same the same week every every week. Um, you never know if you’re one guy down or two guys down, what can happen in the game. Uh, that’s kind of how my career got started. Two guys went down back to back and I’m like, I never thought this would have happened. Um, so he he always goes about his preparation the right way and um, if his numbers called, I feel like he’ll be ready. KC’s talked about Max’s superpower kind of being his processing ability. I mean, how how do you describe that with a quarterback? Like what does that mean and and what’s the value of that? Uh definitely a quarterback has to see a lot. They’re probably seeing the most uh in a play from um what they come out in to get it us identify in the front to get us in the right protection calls. Uh then to identify if there’s going to be a pressure or edge pressure or the safety’s buzzing down and then after the snap kind of determining what coverage they’re in. if they’re trying to bait you and make it look like make it look like one coverage and drop to another. Um it’s all little chess pieces games within the game. Um and I feel like if somebody can pick pick up on that quick, it’ll make allow them to play faster. Karen, what have you thought of JJ’s first six games with this team? No, I feel like JJ came out, he he’s competed very hard in the uh first six games. We haven’t made his job easier around him. Um I always say it’s our job. uh all 10 every all the 10 others to make his job easier um so that we can if a play presents itself we can make a play and um not everybody has not everybody including myself has uh done that to make his job easier but I always tell him I lift his head up and tell him I’m proud of him um one day you’re going to look back at these times and um kind of laugh on it or not not even laugh on it just be be thankful for for the process and uh the ones who’ve counted you up. Um, you can you can they’re going to have to recount. Yeah. Do do you think that he sees that or is it I mean is it too much in the moment for him to be able to see that big picture? Um I I think he I think he does. Um I think it’s a little bit of both. Um but I think he does just talking to him. I I mentioned that to him. You’re going to look back and and he was um just the person he is. He’s like, “No, I’m going to be I’m going to be thankful. I’m going to thank God for these moments.” And um it’s it’s all a part of the the growing process. And uh I feel like you you look across the league, it takes quarterbacks uh time. It takes them they’re not going to come out game one and just be fine. So it t it takes time. And um the the DC’s the the defensive players, they get paid for a reason, too.
