Dallas Cowboys vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Injury News, Matchups, Players To Watch | NFL Week 13 Preview
[Music] Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Welcome into the Cowboys report. We’re going to be live later this afternoon for the Cowboys Chiefs game. Make sure you are subscribed if you are not already. I It’s going to be a recordbreaking day here on the Cowboys for what might be the most watched NFL regular season game in history. Hit that sub button so you don’t miss out. Week 13, Cowboys at home. Chiefs coming to town. They are not wearing their uh Dallas throwbacks, which I think could have been kind of fun. But either way, the Cowboys are in their alternates, which I love dearly. We are filming this after the Tuesday participation report came out before the Wednesday and final game statuses. So, keep an eye on the comments section description. Maybe a short if anything happens as well. Not going to have Tyler Gayton. That’s not been confirmed by Shotheimer, but read between the lines of notes. Kayn Carson, who practiced on Monday and said it was dehydration and cramps that caused him to leave the game earlier this or on Sunday, then was limited with a new hamstring injury. So, red flag there on Kalin Carson. We will certainly keep an eye on it. Everyone else was limited on this list. Oso, Diggizua, George Pickkins, upgraded. Uh, Cavante Turpin limited, those guys are in line to play. Clowny, Hooker, Wilson, Fowler, all limited. I feel good about everyone except Gayton who’s not going to play. And now we’ll see about Kaylin Carson. Chiefs wise, Noah Gray, Trey Smith are not going to play. Concussion, high ankle span sprain. They will be out. Chris Roland Wallace went from full. He’s a backup corner with his back injury to limited. Actually, everyone else on this list was full on Tuesday. Chanel, Rashid Rice, Xavier Worthy, Isaiah Pacheco are going to go. a lot of guys that maybe wouldn’t be on the injury report for both teams if this was a Sunday game, but a Thursday game, everyone’s banged up, so it’s just going to be bumps and bruises with all these games in a very short time frame. Let’s talk matchups to watch and get right into the Trey Smith side of it here. It’s the Cowboys pass rush against the Chiefs offensive line. I’ll let you guys in on a secret. I have a list available of every single NFL quarterback who is actually better when under pressure. It’s none. No quarterback actually plays better under pressure. That they’re all like the best quarterback this year in EPA per drop back while under pressure is Drake Mayus.1. When you pressure quarterbacks, they’re not as good. Now Patrick Mahomes happens to be the second best quarterback right now at minus.22, 22, but that is a far cry from his plus.17. It basically flips all together. It’s a completely different flip with the banged up Chiefs offensive line. You got to get pressure. Ezra, who’s got to be good against Josh Simmons and and uh Jawan Taylor, who he’s going to fall ser they don’t call it. They might they might call the lined up too far in the back field. He’s a penalty magnet, by the way. Mike Caliendo, I think, is beatable at guard. I think Sumataya is beatable at guard as good as Kumphrey is. I expect fiveman fronts out of the the Cowboys again, which again somehow shocked the Eagles. That front has to be good in this game. Be honest with me. What is your confidence level in the Cowboys beating the Chiefs? Scale it for me from 1 to 10 in the comments section of today’s show. One on the low end, 10 on the high end. I am adamant about this next statement. We will see if Matt Eberloose does it. If he doesn’t, I’m going to be right back into the anti-Elfluence mindset. You have to run, man. Not the zone defense the Cowboys love. I get that they love zone. I think they’re still going to do some zone. Man coverage has to be the focal point for this Dallas Cowboys team against Patrick. Look at the numbers this year and how different they have been over the course of the season. Patrick Mahomes against man is completing 10% less of his throws, which is insane. Um, that’s not a very common thing. The yards per attempt, they dropped all the way down from 8.1 to 5.6. Again, a shockingly large difference on that front. You don’t normally see that sizable of a gap there. The touchdowns are the same part because red zone, you see a lot more man than you see zone. There’s like almost twice as many plays though from Mahomes. Uh 275 verse 1 132 in zone. So the ratios are very different. More interceptions on fewer plays. The EPA per play is sizable. 02 which is okay to you know a little bit below average frankly to plus 37 which is MVP the best in football type of stuff. Run zone sorry run man against Mahomes. Make them beat you in man coverage. If they get beat it is what it is. that she’s not as good against it. Rasheed Rice, for example, last week, by the way, seven of eight targets, 122 yards against zone, one of four for 19 in man, run man coverage. Match up to watch number three, the interior of the offensive line against Chris Jones. He has maybe not been the same consistent player. The one really uh against the Jags just like stopped trying since then. That seemed to be a bit of a wakeup call for Chris Jones. He’s been quite good since then. 12 quarterback hits on the season, only three sacks and 16 tackles, but he’s really used more as a pass rusher these days as he continues to age and kind of gets the he’ll do his best stuff in November, December, January mindset. Pressure rates 11.7%. You know, Booker, Smith, and BB going to have their hands full against Chris Jones. Have to show up this week. This episode is brought to you by Prize Picks. It is the holiday season, the best time of the year for sports, bowl games, basketball matchups, playoff pushes, it’s all happening at once. Although you can do the flex play if you want. You can still get one wrong and cash out. It’s a good feature there on prize picks. I’m really good at the flex plays. Not as good as the power plays. Uh George Pickkins more than a half touchdown. Jake Ferguson more than 33.5 receiving yards. Lamar Jackson more than 25 rushing yards. Go download the prize picks app today. Links in the comments section and the description of today’s show. Obviously, on one of our previous matchups, we mentioned just Dak Prescott. Previous previews, we did Dak Prescott in general. I think the blitz matters here. And the Chiefs, especially in the early to mid part, they’ve been a little bit better since then. Against the Colts, they’re very good. Third downs, Spags loves to bring blitzes. He loves to bring nickel corner blitzes. He He is very creative and effective when he brings pressure. The Chiefs though haven’t been as effective this year against the Blitz. They’re just ninth in blitz rate, 27th in pressure rate, 28th in sack rate, bottom 10 in EPA per play. Prescott hasn’t been actually as good in some key moments against the Blitz. Been there was one bad game against the Saints, frankly, in particular that was like it just it wasn’t a good game uh for for Dak Prescott against the Blitz because the Bears and Dennis Allen had him in hell. Uh there was there’s no other way to describe that, frankly. It was it was a uh it was just one of those games uh in the end. But overall for the course of the season, he has been very good when blitz that’s been true for the entirety of his career. Very rarely is he not having a bunch of success against blitzes. Denver and Chicago were the two that like kind of gave him issues. Go back and watch the Carolina game. They lost. He was nine of 120 10 yards in the pick against the blitz. I I’m curious how much the Chiefs choose to blitz Dak Prescott this week. Number five matchup, first down runs against the Chiefs run defense. And the overall season numbers don’t look as good for the Chiefs. But again, recent weeks after the slow start, you’re starting to see some signs of life here. Chiefs first down run defense. Not a great showing against the Bills, but look at this. Denver 13 carries, 33 yards. Washington, nine carries, 21 yards. The Raiders, seven carries, 15 yards. Indie Jonathan Taylor eight carries 13 yards. Teams have tried to run the ball against them on first downs. The Chiefs when they’re in base personnel with Leo Shanal out there, they do a damn good job of it. Shotti wants to run the ball still. Not in the red zone for some reason, but everywhere else he wants to to run the football. The success rates dropped a bit in recent weeks for Javvante Williams. The Chiefs do a good job of defending that run. What the Chiefs want to do is stop the run on first down, get you into third down, and then dial up some fun stuff with Space with Steve Spagnolo. They just haven’t been as good on third downs as they’ve been in years past. But that trend is heading upwards. That’s why when it comes to the record, toss it out the window. It does not matter. This is still a very dangerous Chiefs team. They’re probably saying the same thing about you right now, by the way. But who scores the first touchdown for the Cowboys? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Some players to watch. Donovan Wilson is first up here, the safety. I’m curious how the Cowboys try to take away Travis Kelce. He can’t get open much against man, but he’s very good about finding the soft spots in zone. They will run pick plays in man coverage as well. We’ll see if they get flagged for them or not. Is Wilson the guy tasked with covering Travis Kelce? I’d kind of be worried if so. I mean, you need a bounceback game from CD Lamb. There’s there’s no way around it. CD Lamb has to be better in this game for the Cowboys if they’re going to win. It’s kind of funny actually from like a yards per route run and yards per target stuff. Like, it’s actually still very good for CD Lamb. It’s just that they’re drops like the quarterback’s been super accurate. He’s just not making the play. Um, that also shows you like the expectation we have for CD Lamb. like as inconsistent and as frustrating as he has been, if he’d been healthy for every game, he’d still be on pace for, you know, well over 1,300 yards. Like he he would be having quite the season just hasn’t been the big moments against the Eagles just against the Eagles killed him. So be better this week. CD Shotti is going to give him the ball. You can guarantee it. They are going to try to to get him going. Who is wide receiver one right now though for this team? Posted the short. I think it’s Pickkins. Maybe that changes each week. That wouldn’t be a bad thing, by the way. 88 for Lamb, three for George Pickkins. Number three player to watch, Don Bland. Part of the reason why teams are sometimes scared to run man coverage against the Chiefs is they get one pick play, Rasheed Rice gets open, defender falls down, they’re gone. Don’t fall down. I I wonder if Don Bland is going to get Xavier Worthy going to get more Rasheed Rice in the slot. I’m very curious. Worthy is I think right now not a reliable vertical threat, but that horizontal speed matters a lot. I am very curious how the Cowboys cover against these Chiefs receivers who they’re not as good as they should be yet. Number two player to watch, Nate Thomas in line to start at left tackle. Uh the Chiefs outside of George Caroftus haven’t been that good about getting pressure off of the edge. They’ve been pretty mediocre frankly in that regard. Um, you know, Caroftus has 52 pressures. That is over double any other edge combined. It’s 52 for Caroftus, 21 for Charles Amen. Then it’s 12 for Ashton Gelotti, and six for Mike Dana. Outside of Caroftus, who again, those pressure numbers are good, very good, not great. They’re kind of just like hovering around out there at the uh do my math real quick here. The 16 70% press rate is actually very good, but no one else gets home. So, whoever’s not getting going against Carlus should win a lot. Finally, every linebacker, this kind of ties into number five. Uh Mahomes will do his Mahomes stuff where like he gets out of the pocket, runs around looking, looking looking, throwing it, whatever. He’ll make some plays. Um yeah, I I am very curious to see when the Cowboys go into their base. What does the linebacker core look like? I want it to be Logan Wilson to Marvin Novver plus somebody. Maris Leaf was not good last week. Do they want the speed of Shamar James? Are they going to keep giving 60% snaps to Kenneth Murray? Can they cover Travis Kelce? Can they not get beat in coverage? If it’s going to be a bunch of zone coverage stuff where it’s they’re playing zone and they’re asking those linebackers to cover Kelsey and Rice, I got a bad feeling. [Music]

I love my cowboys. But I’m not as confident with this matchup as I was against Philly. My confidence is a 6. I just can’t see our DB’s matching up well against this stacked WR core from KC. I already know my Home is gonna play out of his mind.

Tom we got Wilson man he's a legit cover LB see how that goes at first then make the adjustments. But Go Cowboys ⭐ this for Kneeland 🕊️
How different have the coverages been by week though? How much of the man was when he didnt have his top 2 receivers?

I’m pretty confident just don’t put Ceedee lamb he was horrible last game against the Eagles 🤦🏻♂️😂🤣
