Paolo Banchero NEEDS to learn ‘give and take’ with Magic | Off Guard with Austin Rivers | NBA on NBC

Magic are playing very well. Um, very strange. They’re doing it without Paulo. This isn’t the first time either. They’ve done it multiple times in the past where Paulo doesn’t play. Their team just plays better. Their numbers are better across the board. This isn’t a one-off thing. It’s strange. It’s kind of like when Kyrie was hurt and like the Boston just was getting they just kept winning and they’re like the difference is they’re doing it with their young core. He is the young core. So, it doesn’t make sense because people like, “Well, wait, wait, wait. He is the rebuilding. We built it around Paulo. To the I love calling out the non-educated basketball fans. To the people in the comments saying we should look to trade Paulo, I need you to stop doing drugs. First and foremost, cut it out. Stop using. Stop abusing. All right, you’re out of your mind because what’s going to happen is you’re gonna trade Paulo. You’d probably get a ton for him. I mean, I could even imagine what you could get for Paulo. and you’re gonna get to the playoffs and the game’s going to slow down and you guys are going to struggle scoring the basketball and you’re going to be throwing the ball to Anthony Black, some of these other guys and be like, “Score and it’s it’s not going to work as well.” And you’re going to be like, “Fon, take us to the top.” It’s it’s not going to work as well. Yeah. There’s a reason that every champion you’ve seen since the 2004 Pistons that they have like a top player on each team. It’s And you’re going to be like, “Who Where’s our score when you had one? Yeah, you gave him away because you thought you were better without him. Just don’t do what you did to Shaq back in the day. Stop the You guys aren’t playing well without Paulo. There are some areas to address. By the way, I do think Paulo still needs to grow. He’s not perfect. He’s far from it. Actually, he’s very talented. I think he’s a top 10 player when he’s on his That’s how good Paulo Bankro is. I’m a big fan of his game and I love him as a person, his character, his demeanor. I love everything he’s doing. there are rooms uh uh uh areas of uh uh for growth. Okay, this guy isn’t a finished product yet. He’s not the best player in the league, is he? Okay, then. So, even the best players are trying to improve. So, Paulo’s got to look at the things that are happening right now in the Magic like, man, this guy’s playing really well. Man, this guy’s playing. What way can I come back and continue to be Paulo Ben Carroll, but allow these guys to hoop. Shay’s figured that out. Okay, LeBron’s doing it now. Now, LeBron’s at the end of his career, but nonetheless, Reeves, all these guys are hooping. LeBron comes back and what does he do the first game? He shoots six shots, but he has 12 assists and they’re winning. And then you start, you wait for them to have some bad games and go do now. LeBron’s back there doing a You got to ease into it and find and get I like what you said about the playoffs, too, because like that that the game slows down. It’s completely different. And you’re not going to just do it by committee like that. I love the Pistons. This ain’t happening in the playoffs. You’re not just going to beat everybody. The game’s going to slow down. The fast break points like you talked about with Toronto, all that shit’s dead, bro. Right. It’s going to slow down. It’s going to get physical and the rest are going to swallow their whistle. So, at some point, you’re just going to have to be able to throw it. The really, really good teams have a guy that they can just throw the ball to like score. That’s what the really good teams have. Yeah. There’s been one team that has been able to pop. It’s the Pacers, guys. Okay. No one else really has a point guard like Hallebertton, and their team’s not made up like him. So, stop trying to be them. Now, even them, the team that literally lives and breathes off ball movement in the playoffs when the game slow down. Oo, that ball go to Pascal Seakum. Do it right there on that free throw line. You know where he likes it. So, he could turn and seek time. Hey yo, we need we can’t score. Where’s Ben at? Get grab Ben. Where is he in the lock? Get his ass out here. Where is he in the locker room? Get his ass out here. Hey, Ben, we’re struggling scoring. We need you to go do your thing. Matine gets in there and just starts lighting it up. You need guys who could just score. Okay, so Paulo Ben Carro ain’t Ben Mathan. He ain’t even Pascal Seakob. He is a He’s a star. Okay, this is a guy who averaged 30 versus Celtics actually in the playoffs. That’s what I was going to say. Look at his playoff averages. This guy stud allar. What are we doing here? We’re talking about an all-star. So when you guys talk about trading your start, you you sound uneducated. Okay, they are playing well without him. So there are things that Paulo can look at and be like, “Okay, okay.” And then you you you you carry on. This isn’t a replace thing. But the issue is for like the Hawks, for example, them playing good without Trey. That one is different because Trey, they’ve been talking about and this is again that meets more the criteria and timeline of like the the the the Celtics Kyrie thing. They’re playing well without you through this young core that they can build up with and they could if anything use Trey to trade for even more young assets and build out this young team. Paulo Ben Carro is the biggest part of the young team and makes it’s totally different, right? It’d be like Wimby being out and the Spurs are playing well without him. You don’t trade Wimi. You you you get Wimi back and you figure out a way to make it work with that guy. You don’t trade him. Kyrie was already in year nine or whatever the he was after. What are you talking about? This is also like Yeah. No, this is right and this is right before the Brooklyn. You got a different Kyrie. This is a different totally different thing. Different thing. So yes, the Magic are playing well, but they are better still with Paulo Ben Carroll, but there has to be some give and take there and Paulo’s going to have to figure out ways. That’s the problem, but it’s a problem that can easily be fixed. It’s a problem that can easily be adjusted to why they have coaches who do this. Coach Mosley is a capable coach. Paulo Ben Carro is a stud. He’s an all-star. He’s a star basketball player, guys. He’s actually close and on the verge. Let’s see how this season goes and finishes. Paulo could finish his season strong and end up being a superstar if this team makes a run and goes deep. All right, he has superstar around him. These are guys that you wait 30, 40 years to draft. You don’t give them away and Orlando, we’ve done it. This is why I’m saying this. I’m saying this on air because we’ve done this before. Now, that was a different Orlando Magic, different front office, different time. Don’t do it. it, like you said, comes once every 30 years. You get your number one pick and then you get the Every guy we had Penny we gave away. Shaq gave away. T-Mag left. Dwight left. We’ve lost them all. We got one now. His mom’s on Twitter on radio talking about we want to bring a champion. God damn it. Let’s keep them here. What are you talking about? They’re playing well without him. Let’s move him. You’re a No, you don’t move a top 10 player in the NBA. You’re stupid. And in the playoffs, you guys will not go past the first round if you don’t have Apollo Ben Carroll. Period.

  1. Paolo is not going anywhere until he wants to go somewhere! Just look at the production numbers he provided the last 2 playoffs. Paolo will have to adjust to having so many players on the floor with him that are almost on his level aka Franz , Bane!

  2. NBA talk is just so negative these days. Gotta bring down your guy to lift my guy instead of just appreciating the talent. 95% of the people talking shit about Paolo haven’t even watched him to see how he’s changed his game this year to fit in better. I’ve seen plenty of games where the magic were injury ridden and Paolo carried them all game. But once there’s a narrative out there all the national media just run with it cause they damn sure aren’t watching magic games

  3. Orlando loves P5. This kid has led the team in points rebounds and ASSISTS(!!!!!!!!) for the past 4 years. Sure he’s no finished product but that’s the best part about him. He just turned 23… he has a huge bag already. He will adjust because he’s just that good and we will be better with him. Love the show Austin! The O loves you too

  4. Wow, I appreciate what Rivers said but the few empty barrels making alot of noise, is not the Majority of fans wanting Pablo to leave. Were not that dumb to think he's down lets get rid of him. Its more like voices like yours that put that seed of contention in his heart that make him think he is not appreciated. He is still the corner stone of the Magic, and will be for the foreseeable future. Last year it was " the Magic better put some players and a good bench around him or he woll leave. We did that, now its we got those players,we don't need him. Wrong! He will be back soon but its good for the bench and rookies to get significant amount of play now, let Blancheo rest, believe me he will been getting enough play come February onwards. But unlike last season the bench will be ready!

  5. Exactly what I’ve been saying. When the playoffs come around you need a legit iso scoring option. If Paolo is as good as we think he his, he will adjust his game to fit the team. I believe he will

  6. The problem isn’t Paolo. It’s when Paolo and Franz are on the floor at the same time. They are redundant players and it messes up spacing and balance. What they should do is play Paolo and Franz as a rotation 24 minutes each per game so only one of them is on the floor at a time. Would help with spacing and load management.

  7. If you think Palo is a problem your on drugs. This is a blessing in disguise that other players are gaining confidence and a place and a set future we have a dynasty just very small tweaks we our going to need every piece.

  8. Austin Rivers act like Orlando was winning before Paolo Banchero got hurt this year! 😂

Unless Paolo Banchero comes back a becomes a Jokic type player, Orlando doesn't need him!

  9. The only fans that are on the bandwagon of trade P5 are the the ones that don’t now about BB,you are completely right,Paolo now has to make adjustments to his game to make it work,he’s super talented and has a great coaching staff to help him to achieve what they need out of him,but if he comes back and be a Diva like some players on the league he’s ruining the beautiful BB that we are playing now, shout out to Rivers for your analysis 👍🏼🙌🏼

  10. Every post ive seen saying something about Paolo isnt a true Magic fan. Funny its all these outsiders and non magic fans drooling to see magic without P5.. i wonder why.

  11. Thank you Austin lots of bandwagon fans for sure on drugs with that nonsense. Paolo Franz debate does nothing to help this franchise. This team hasn’t had two stars since Shaq/Penny. Trading either is ridiculous. They must’ve not watched the playoffs. LHP/WP legend speaking facts.

  12. Paulo needs to work the block. when he posts up, the defence will collapse and the shoots and cutters who we have abundance of will eat. then Paulo gets one on one opportunity near basket. this will work.

  13. Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Finally someone with common sense. I agree with everything said here. Orlando we already fcked up chasing Shaq out of here. Dont make the same mistake!!! P5 is our guy
