Are you out on Charles Lee being the HC of the future?
November 27, 2025
Personally I’m out. He showed some redeeming qualities last year but he’s been bad this year and I don’t see any improvements within his system. But that’s just the start of my problems with him.

Nope
Dude it’s Thanksgiving. Enjoy one day away
Him costing us about 4 games has made me out on him, Now last night we could have won if our shooting wasn’t ass
No. Middle of the pack offense with two stars who have barley played and 3 rookies playing significant minutes. Poor defensive efforts and abilities from some of your most “important” players. I’m not sure what anyone expects from him that isn’t what you’re getting.
Dude, it’s only his second season. Give the man a bit more time to put out the dumpster fire.
The roster is still flawed but I’m curious to see how the team does ROS. So far, seen some progress but is it enough for another season? Idk
He’s the tank commander this year
Why are we already out on a second year coach who’s had injuries to his star players? Let’s see a healthy year first
I haven’t been able to watch this team consistently since the Borrego days. This team is headed towards another less than 20 win season. Collecting top 5 draft picks and having nothing to show for it.
Yea
Yes.
Two things can be true: We are a bad roster and have had a ton of injuries, leaving Lee with less to work with, but he’s also just not a good coach.
The only positive thing I can really say about him is that he gets people to hustle. But his defensive scheme has major flaws — going under screens, leaving people in drop coverage… at a certain point, it’s not other teams always having magnet ball. It’s just you having the worst 3pt defense in the league and not being able to make adjustments. Again, I know we don’t have great defensive personnel, but take the Clippers game for example. Why are we keeping the center in drop coverage and constantly giving James Harden open threes off of a simple screen? You cannot be an NBA coach if you can’t guard the simplest play in basketball.
His offense has also been very uninspiring. There’s very little off-ball movement. Maybe a screen here or there, rarely off-ball though. Especially since we are lacking in playmakers, we need to be running more sets. Instead, our offensive system seems to be “try and set a screen and see if something good happens”. It just doesn’t work. I think someone said in the game thread yesterday that teams have figured out we just spam ghost screens, and that’s all they need to guard in order to neutralize us offensively.
So, if he isn’t a good offensive coach, and he isn’t a good defensive coach, I struggle to see what he’s good at. I’d rather have James Borrego back at this point, because at least we had an offense. You’d want to be good at least on one side of the ball.
Edit: I also want to add: I often see the sentiment of “Lee can’t tell our players to stop shooting 30% from three”, and yes, that is true. But it all comes back to making adjustments. Run more sets, do something differently. When the other team shoots 50% from three, you need to figure out a better defensive scheme than just hoping they start to miss. We’ve had a few winnable games this season where Lee’s rotations and horrible ATO plays cost us a win. Those are the instances that are the most damning for him. We’re not a good team and we’re going to be blown out sometimes like we were last night. But losing games that are clearly winnable is when he shows his lack of talent as a coach.
I’m a headcoach, WEEEEEEEEEEE!
Yeah we really need to stir things up. “Luck favors the bold” – Nico Harrison.
He’s terrible
Dude still has the locker room right?
Absolutely not. I’m genuinely not sure what some of you want out of Charles Lee. He’s not a miracle worker, he can’t make LaMelo try on defense or stop Brandon Miller from taking bad shots.
I was out on day one when we missed on JJ tbh. Surprisingly, it’s been nothing but downhill since. Happy turkey day!
Not out, because I believe he is a tremendous off the court coach, however, I think he has a LOT of work to do in terms of rotations, schemes, and overall feel for the game.
So basically, I think he’s the right coach for the moment, but I’m not convinced he’s the right coach for the future.
I can’t tell if he’s tanking or not.
But if this is what he is then yeah, I’m out.
I’m a casual nba watcher and the hornets being my local team I watch a lot of their games. I like Charles Lee, I think he’s one hell of a speaker and his demeanor on the court is something I admire about him. I think at this point it’s just about cohesion with the players, knowing where they are gonna be before they are there. I don’t think it’s coaching, I think it’s a few people wanting to play the game their way instead of the teams way.
His rotations are genuinely terrible, but no, I’m not out on him.
I like him but this franchise needs good head coach that was good before. There are a few. We have to pay top dollar but we need to do it. Look at Detroit and Bickerstaff. They had 14 wins 2 years ago.
Yes
He stink
No
Offense too stationary and predicated on pick and rolls, almost no actions away from the ball. Makes you question how ideal the heavy PnR offense will fit Kon/Miller long-term. We should be playing very different from what we currently are. If Charles can’t do it and he’s worth keeping for different reason, we should bring in an assistant to be the OC.
Nobody on this team can defend, so it’s unfair to judge him about it.
Apparently the players are not challenged to improve on their weaknesses. We try to put LaMelo, Bridges and most of the guys on their confort zone, and letting guys do only what they’re confortable at don’t make them better players in the long run. A lot of our guys are just the same versions of themselves, showing the same problems over and over again. Our guys are put on bubble wraps, I don’t see how that helps development long-term.
Everytime he answers questions it sounds generic and completely bland. I’m not really sure if he has the competency to be a psycho about details.
Our team also sucks and we have players that lack the mentality to be natural leaders.
