Sam Hentges Signs With San Francisco Giants (REACTION)

San Francisco Giants fans, do not sleep on this signing because Sam Henches has got some dog in them. Sam Henches just signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco Giants after getting non-tendered by the Cleveland Guardians. Henches, a former starting pitching prospect who spent his whole major league career with Cleveland up until this point, never really made it as a starter, but found his calling in the bullpen. In 2022, Henches broke out for the Guardians, becoming a highlever reliever on a team that made it all the way to the ALDS. His mid90s sinker in devastating curveball led to a strikeout rate of 30%. And when batters were able to put the ball in play against Henches, he kept it on the ground 63% of the time. That’s elite. Henches battled through a few injuries in 2023 and was a little less effective. But when he came back in 2024, he was one of the best relievers in a stacked Guardians bullpen. However, in August of 2024, he had a major shoulder injury, missed all of 2025, and was non-tendered by Cleveland. Now he is almost 30 coming off shoulder surgery and if the Guardians of all organizations aren’t willing to give him a team friendly deal, that’s a bunch of red flags. But when he is healthy, he’s a legit late inning reliever. I think with a little injury luck, this 68 lefty could fit right in with the San Francisco Giants.
