Boras get a pitcher signed earlier?!? It's $210M for 7 years with deferred money, so present value of the contract is $182M or $26M annually.
Imai is 2 years younger. Have to imagine Boras won't sign Imai for less money or years.

Not sure about the numbers for Imai or others, but the Cease signing makes me hope that the Giants don’t wait around and get left in the starting blocks. They got Adames somewhat early last year, so that gives me hope that they’ll jump in and start mixing it up (if their strategy is to be active in the FA pitcher market)
Imai is not established in mlb, and probably not nearly as good as Cease. Imai might, might be able to become a 2 with some work and adding a new pitch. More likely, his average outcome is a #3 or #4, with the floor of a 5 or even a reliever if his command regresses. Meanwhile, Cease is a guy who can be a team’s ace, is established in mlb, and who has the floor of like a #3.
Imai won’t make nearly as much as cease despite being younger. The 6/150 prediction floating around still makes sense for him. Plus you have to factor in the posting fee team’s have to pay his NPB team, which at that 6/150 mark is around 20 mil. That posting fee alone will likely stop his price from rising much past that 6/150 mark
TBH, I’m glad we didn’t sign Cease on a contract like that. He’s one of the few high quality pitchers that I didn’t want to see on the Giants.
But it does imply the other pitching contracts this winter are going to be more expensive than current estimates. Hopefully we can still land Imai and a couple solid backups like Verlander and Giolito or something.
