REPORT: The Milwaukee Brewers Are Cash Strapped This Winter?

The Brewers reportedly are hurting for cash with Brandon Woodruff taking the qualifying offer. I’m going to tell you why this is a slap in the face to every Brewers fan out there. You are Locked On Brewers, your daily Milwaukee Brewers podcast, part of the Locked On podcast network. Your team every day. Hey everybody, welcome to Locked On Brewers, part of Locked On Network. We are your team every day. Locked on Brewers and the Locked On Network, the number one sports podcasting network out there. Good to have you along. Welcome to Thanksgiving weekend. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, although the news dropped yesterday regarding the Milwaukee Brewers. We’re going to get to that. That was not great news. Um, we are the number one podcast network out there because of you great Brewer fans. I’m a longtime sports cer here in the state of Wisconsin. proud host of Lockdown Brewers from a different site today because um on the road take a little vacation. But that doesn’t mean we’re not going to do Lockdown Brewers. Coming up, brewers have no cash flow. Are you kidding me? We we’re going on this road again. You guys are not happy about that news. That report that came out on Thanksgiving Day regarding that in the Athletic and Pat Murphy Brewers did get something right here. A Pat Murphy tour. This is uh this is something that they’re going to people are really going to love. This is a fans. This is for the fans and the fans are going to love this Pat Murphy tour. All right, but they’re not going to love the news. It came out in the Athletic yesterday. National media reports that the Brewers are fretting over their payroll. Over their payroll. Now, the last thing fans want to hear, especially Milwaukee Brewers fans, is that the team can’t afford this, they can’t afford that. Uh, they’re hurting for cash, right? That’s the last thing we want to hear from this team. Now, I’m always with the fans. I’m always with the fans because number one, the Brewers fans, no World Series championships, haven’t been to the World Series in 43 years, 1982 to be exact. And here we are. this team gets your utmost support. Let’s just take for instance this year, okay? After playoff disappointments in recent years, thinking this was going to be the year only to lose to in in the wild card round and like 48 hours after playing six months of great baseball. this past year they explode in the in the summertime and Brewer Fever is hot and I’m telling you and we’re thinking this is the best this is not only the best team in baseball record-wise but this team is going to the World Series who is going to get on the train and you Brewers fans went out and supported this team. You not only support this team by selling out that place, but you go out there and you you you buy the t-shirts, you buy the hats, do whatever, pay for those concessions at Amfam Field. You guys go out and support this team year in year out. Now, in the mid90s, you didn’t. There was a bad product on the field and Brewers baseball was at an all-time low. But since Anfan Field has opened up and especially since they’ve started really like winning games and and competing for division titles really only the last what 101 15 years can we say that um and especially the last eight uh that ballpark on a random Monday or Tuesday night we’ll have 24,000 fans for the smallest market in baseball. All right, outdrawing some of those bigger markets. outdrawing some of those bigger markets. So, you the fans, you have done your part in all this. You’ve beyond the call of duty have supported this team. And it’s not like you’re going out there and giving out donations. All right? But you’re having faith in the organization. You enjoy the product that’s been put on the field. Even though you’ve been let down in the postseason, we all have. All right? This past year, as an example, September, look how many games were sold out. I mean, a Brewer ticket was tough to get and there was World Series FA uh fever in the air. And of course, the playoff games, they’re always going to be sold out, but the fans were great as always. So, you guys go out there and do your job. Not that you had to do a job, but you know what I’m saying. You guys go out there and support this team like you do for every sporting team in the state. I mean, you guys are fans of this state are just amazing. Especially Brewers fans. And when I say Brewers fans are the best ever. It’s because you’ve got no championships to show for it. Yet, you go out there game after game and support this team and watching them on TV. I mean, that’s support. You’re taking three hours of your night sitting in front of the TV. Well, you probably should have been cutting the grass, okay, or doing something else around the house, but you’re sitting in front of the TV set eating a pizza watching the Brewers game. you’re taking time time and money out of your life to support this team. So, the last thing you want to see or hear about when you guys, we all are, are going out and spending our hardearned money is to hear the team that we’re spending our money on and supporting and paying exorbitant ticket prices. some of them is that our team is fretting over the salary, is fretting over the payroll because Brandon Woodruff is making $22 million and that’s going to preclude the Brewers from doing anything else. Now, this is according to the Athletic. The Brewers haven’t come out and said anything, but these are according to reports in the Athletic that the Brewers are going to have to trade Freddy Peralta, which makes no sense because he’s only making $8 million a year. It’s a guy you want, right? Why would you trade him? All right. I mean, if you’re going to try to trade somebody, maybe he try try to trade Woodruff, but the report is that they’re fretting over payroll because Brandon Woodruff accepted the $22 million qualifying offer. Now, if you thought at at all that he was going to take the $22 million qualifying offer and that was going to hamper your payroll, why did you do such a stupid thing? If you thought there was any shot, someone did not have and the Brewers organization has been great. Someone did not have the aptitude to make that decision. If you thought there was even the slightest chance that he was going to take that and that it was going to hamper your salary cap or hamper wish there was a salary cap hamper your budget, you shouldn’t have done it. And the brewers all say the nice things about it, right? Wow. Oh, we’d love to have Woodruff back. Oh, fantastic. But inside, they’re crying. You know, it’s like the car dealership that gives away a a couple of cars. They’re happy about it, but they’re probably crying because it’s costing them some money. Who knows? But you shouldn’t have gone out there and given him the $22 million offer, thinking if gambling that he’s not going to take it, he’s going to go out there on the market, get himself a multi-year deal, and you’re going to get the the draft pick. What is it worth the $22 million risk? You better be darn sure, okay, that he’s going to take that 22 that he is going to reject that qualifying offer to offer him something like that. Why would you even offer him that if that if you thought that was going to hamper your payroll? Why would you do such a stupid thing? That’s not good business right there. Who made that decision? Well, let’s risk 22 million for a draft pick on a player that we don’t even know how good that player is going to be, but let’s risk 22 million. Is that making good financial sense? Milwaukee Brewers, this is on you. Don’t turn it over to the fans and put on a a bargain basement type team out there. I mean already with this pitching staff I mean you’re really fortunate and it’s because of the Brewers have made some good moves over the years. Really really good moves. Miz Peralta Woodruff Prister and TBA right now in their starting five. Got to like that rotation. Not only from a rotation standpoint but from a dollars standpoint. You’re not going out and having to pay $35 million for Dylan CE, right? You got guys on this roster who maybe one I mean Woodruff you’re paying $22 million for, but Priest or Peralta Miz and TBA all guys who are whoever’s in that TBA spot, you got a good shot at putting somebody decent in there. That’s not bad. All right. So, you you put yourself in a position that way. And I don’t know if that report was put out there to the athletic by Major League Baseball posturing for the upcoming labor talks to show that a team like Milwaukee, even though it won 97 games, is financially hurting. I want to know how they’re financially hurting. They shouldn’t be because it’s not that it’s not like 12,000 fans are showing up to the ballpark. And I get the TV revenue. I get that. I get that the Brewers don’t have the same TV revenue coming in like Los Angeles and New York and Chicago. I’m sick of hearing it, right? I’m sick of hearing it. Yeah, I get that. But to to to get this over Thanksgiving last night as I’m scrolling around is a slap in the face to every Milwaukee Brewer fan out there because Brewers fans deserve better than this. The fan support outstanding. And again, if you think Woodruff is taking up too much of your payroll, 22 million, if signing a player for 22 million for one year, first of all, you shouldn’t have offered him him that deal. Then what are you doing in business? That says a that says a lot about the structure of Major League Baseball. And again, maybe this is posturing for the Labor deal coming up. This is a thing. This is a thing that was put out there by Major League Baseball to get people talking. What are the people talking about today? The Packers win over the Lions and how there are some bad calls or that the Milwaukee Brewers now cannot make any moves in the off season. The Brewers need a power bat and they got to increase that payroll. What’s that payroll going to be like $136 million? I feel like uh I think that’s what it’s going to be. 136 million. I feel it should be upwards towards 160 million. I’ve always said, why can’t the Brewers be like the St. Louis Cardinals? There’s no reason why the Brewers can’t be spending the same amount of money as St. Louis does. We can’t afford We can’t pay for an Aeronado here. Why can’t we? St. Louis is selling it out. Is St. Louis’s TV market that much bigger than Milwaukeey’s? I mean, it is bigger, but is that much bigger? My goodness. I don’t know. Something sounds really odd about this whole thing that the Brewers don’t have any have any money or fretting over payroll. Where’s all this money going to? Where is it going to? Why aren’t we spending it on on on players? Is it just because of the TV revenue? And I know that’s a big part of it, but man, there’s money coming into that place. That place this summer and every summer is printing money. It’s print. Where do you see open seats? Maybe the right field and left field upper decks on a Sunday game, a scattered game, a Saturday night. Saturday night sold out. Friday night, huge crowd. Like I said, when you can go there on a random May Tuesday night and get 20,000, that’s the best it’s ever been. It’s been like that for a while, but it was never that way in the 80s and 90s. And in the 80s when the Brewers had great teams, early 80s, we got this beautiful ballpark that the taxpayers have funded. The Brewers owe it to fans out there to make this team better in the offseason. Hey, we had a great team last year, right? 97 wins and all that. Got beat by the Dodgers. I get it. But if they need a power bat, get a power bat. I don’t want to hear how 22 million on Brandon Woodruff is preventing this team from doing anything else in the off season and that they may have to trade the $8 million contract of Freddy Peralta. That is stupidity right there. Outright stupidity. I mean, come on. Back in the 90s, there were people who thought, well, maybe we should just have a minor league team in Milwaukee. And it was like, no, Milwaukee is a major league city. Got the Milwaukee Bucks, got the Brewers, got major college basketball in this town. Major Milwaukee is a major league team uh city. Wisconsin is a major league state with the Packers as well. And got to start treating it that way. Fans are doing that. I want to hear this. Fretting over payroll. Oh, folks are at the over at Miller Parkway or Brewers Boulevard as it’s called right now. Fretting over the water cooler because oh my god, Brandon Woodruff accepted the $22 million qualifying offer. What are we going to do? Do you think there was ever any thought that boy what if what if he does accept that $22 million? Well, let’s give him this $22 million offer. What if he accepts it? Then what? Was there any for I mean, right, there’s two sides of everything. If you’re in business, you think of both sides, I would think. And the Brewers have good good people running this organization. This this team is the best team in the NL Central and I believe one of the best franchises in baseball because they got a great farm system and you know, look at the team they’ve put out there this year. They they’re good at making you name it, rule five picks, whatever. They’re they just are solid in a lot of different areas. If they weren’t, this team would be the Oakland A’s right now. the Colorado Rockies, right? That’s what they be, you know, the Sacramento A’s or what, however you want to call them. They’ll always be the Oakland A’s to be. But I mean, thank God. And the Brewers have some really smart people in their organization. Really smart people. But man, again, if you thought at all that Brandon Woodruff’s $22 million qualifying offer was going to hamstring you for the rest of the winter and preventing this team from getting better cuz you well, we’re lucky that the Cubs are not getting any better basically, right? The Cubs are still operating like a small market and the Cardinals are in a rebuild, but the Cardinals aren’t going to stay bad for long. and Cincinnati made the playoffs last year. I think they’re going to be getting better and better, right? Pittsburgh, we don’t have to worry about Paul Skins. That’s it. When the Brewers face them trading Freddy Peralta. Oh, thinking got thinking about doing it now. God, I do not want to hear that, especially over Thanksgiving. All right, we come back. Um, the Brewers are doing something right. We’re going to get to that. This Pat Murphy to a tour. You know, I had this in the back of my mind and then obviously to say it now, but I always thought this would be cool to send the manager out on tour, but we’re going to get to that coming up next here on Locked On Brewers. So, and of course, go to our growing YouTube page, search Lockdown Brewers, hit the subscribe button, hit the bell. That alert you every time we drop an episode here on Locked On Brewers. Fans out there, I I put something on Twitter last night uh about just my disgust in this article that it was out in Athletic about um about the Brewers being concerned about their payroll. some of your comments. Jeff says, “Spoton, Chuck.” Brett says, “Don’t fall for this. It’s a BS article formed speculating that uh there may be some concerned. If they are concerned, they should not have given Woody the qualifying offer.” I get that. Joel says, “Our owner is too cheap. Should never have offered Woody 22 million.” Daniel says, “It’s a small market team. They do a good job at making smart investments throughout their entire franchise. Can’t just blow spending at the majors when they’re also making sizable investments toward targeting young controllable talent. That’s a side budget. The them going out there and spending money. I’m not saying you should be stupid in spending money. Like I think the Blue Jays are stupid and spending all that money for Dylan Case. I would never do that. Never should the Brewers ever ever ever spend $200 million on a pitcher ever. You would have done that with Corbin Burns. Look at that. Tommy John, you don’t you never do that. And Dylan sees the Blue Jays. Ridiculous. So, I don’t want the Brewers to do that. I’m not saying I want them to go out there and give Sodto $500 million. No, I I none of that stuff. But I’m saying if you could take on some salary, you shouldn’t, you know, again, you shouldn’t, it shouldn’t preclude you from going out there and making a deal. I know we’re always looking for controllable talent on this team. I feel like every deal the Brewers ever make, well, the Brewers got Quinn Pier, he’s under control for x amount of years. Oh, they went out and got this guy. Hey, they got Willie Adams if you in 2021, they have him for so many years and then we’re gonna lose him, right? I mean, every guy, every guy the Brewers pick up, trade for, whatever, we know when they’re expiring contract is coming because by then, if this guy is any good, he’s off. Why would you buy any shirts or jerseys with any of these guys? Like why would you buy a Freddy Peralta jersey when you know it’s going to be obsolete? Brandon Woodruff, the good players, right? Because you know most likely Will Thomas gone, Josh her gone. Makes you makes you tough to realize. Uh again, they’ll invest in a couple of players. They’ve invested in Brawn and and Christian Yelage and really were smart with the Cheerio deal. And we all like to think, right, you know, Cheerio is going to be here for a while, right? But when that contract expires and if Chio keeps ascending to greatness, if Juan Sto got 500 million, what’s it going to be like in a couple years if there’s no salary cap? Well, the Brewers can’t afford him. Yeah. Sometimes, you know, when the Brewers make these deals for guys, it’s tough to invest in them because you always think, well, is this guy going to go on to a bigger market? David Sterns, even the even the front office, and I’m not saying keeping David Sterns would have been ideal. Brewers lost David Sterns to the New York Mets. The Brewers lost Craig Council to a bigger market, the Chicago Cubs. Now, both of those deals, it all worked out in the end for the Milwaukee Brewers, right? I mean, the Brewers got the better manager, Pat Murphy. Matt Arnold is doing a heck of a job and so have his front office guys. Now, the thing is the guys who are the Brewers are keeping in the front office. I hope they take care of those guys, too, because those are the guys who are making the great decisions, keeping these players around, finding good talent, fighting the Collins of the world, Perkins, guys like that. All guys you need to help win Quinn Prester. Quinn Prester who couldn’t do anything in the Boston organization or the Pittsburgh. Somebody saw something in Quinn Pster and whoever that guy was in the fraud office. I want to keep that guy around because if it wasn’t for guys like that, the Brewers would be the Colorado Rockies or the A’s. They would be those two different franchises. But a lot of you guys are disgusted on Twitter. you wrote me, if you check me out on Twitter, Chuck Freeman, F- R E I MU ND, put something out there and I see there’s a a b a big string of comments already of guys uh guys and ladies just completely disgusted with the news that the Brewers aren’t spending any money in this off season or the report of it as well. Tell you, I’m going to finish this one off on a good note about Pat Murphy and I think this is just fantastic. I’m going to finish this off on a happy note next here on Lockdown Brewers. Lockdown Brewers brought to you by FanD FanDuel. I mean, this is the week for it, right? FanDuel, NBA, college basketball going on at until 2:00 in the morning. FanDuel, the official sports betting partner of the NBA. All right, the Milwaukee Brewers are doing something right now, which I think if there has been any coach or manager in the state of Wisconsin history that could pull something off like this is Pat Murphy. In fact, I don’t think Pat Murphy has been exposed enough as far as how how much of a personality this guy is. We already know he’s a great manager, right? But I mean, how much of a personality he is and that would benefit him as well and the fans for entertainment. Uh the Brewers are starting the I don’t know if it’s the Brewers or who’s starting this up, but it’s called the Pat Murphy Tour that has just been announced. It’s going to be in Lacrosse. It’s going to be in Green Bay. It’s going to be in Brookfield, which is in suburban Milwaukee for those of you outside the area. And I’m sure there’s going to be other spots as well. Pat Murphy is going to do a Q&A around the state. Uh going to sign some art auto autographs, VIPs, uh autographs there and all that. And but he’s going around the state and he’s going to be holding court. He’s fantastic. As a member of the media, we get to see this every day. And I’m telling you, if you go to see Pat Murphy, the Pat Murphy tour, you will not be disappointed. This guy is entertaining. He’s personable. He appreciates the fans. And you’re going to get some real good insight on him. I mean, he’s got great stories. I would say best storyteller. I mean, you would never be able to do this with a guy like like Ned Yoast. You could never do this with Craig Counsel, right? Because you’d fall asleep in the first 10 minutes. you. There there’s not another Brewers manager I could think you could do this with. Maybe Phil Garner, but Pat Murphy, someone saw this and I think this is a great idea. And like I said, I thought I I I was like earlier this season, Pat Murphy should be taking this act on the road. And here it is, the Pat Murphy tour, barnstorming across the state. It is his birthday today, by the way. But I’m telling you, it’s just not a guy up there who’s going to come up there and sign a few autographs and he is he’ll whatever he’s doing on this tour, he will give you the bang for your buck and more. That’s how entertaining this guy is. So, you will come away wherever you see this and I’m sure there’s more than three spots. I’ve only saw seen three spots so far that this place this tour has taken place. Like I said, Lacrosse, Green Bay, and Milwaukee. And I’m sure there’s other spots as well. The Pat Murphy Tour, people love him. And and I can tell you in the being in the media, you always like to have a manager or coach who’s who you could work with. And he’s great. And this tour is going to be fantastic. But I take advantage of fans and even get the VIP where you can get a picture with him or or whatever. Take advantage of it. Meet Pat Murphy, man. You are going to enjoy it. The Pat Murphy tour. Have yourself a good Black Friday everybody. The day after Thanksgiving. My name is Chuck Freeman. Thanks for watching Lockdown Brewers, part of Lockdown Podcast Network. We are your team every day.

There is a national report that the Milwaukee Brewers will be hamstrung this off season because Brandon Woodruff accepted his 22 million dollar qualifying offer. Therefore-the Brewers will need to trade Freddy Peralta.. If this is true, it is a slap in the face to every Brewers fan who has invested in this franchise

  1. Chuck you have been in this industry a long time, have no idea why you would believe anything from Rosenthal regarding the Brewers, he has no sources. Freddy Peralta of all people is not a salary concern. So ridiculous.
