Maloney causing one of the biggest shit storms in years and then getting extended is definitely a choice
Maloney is 67 and has NEVER been a successful manager in the NHL. I wish he would retire, though I do give him props for declining the GM position and endorsing Conroy.
Extremely weird that they essentially acknowledge they were holding this news back for no reason. If the extensions were all signed before the season, why are we not announcing them til almost December

What this says to me, and you can disagree, is that ownership is happy with the direction the front office is taking the team for now. Given the 2 year extension, I also think it is pretty clear that their first year in the new building will be a major factor in whether the management team is extended beyond that.
This is roughly in line with what we’ve been told since Conroy became the Flames GM. He is given a lot of leeway to do whatever he wants but once the new building is completed there are expectations that the Flames are competitive again. I don’t think this means that the Flames necessarily need to be in the playoffs, but being outside of the playoff race would likely be unacceptable.

Call me crazy but what about having a President of a Hockey Operations who is actually comfortable doing interviews and press conferences and doesn’t say things like rebiggle?

When will the fans realize we are run like a southern Albertan ranch more than a proper hockey team. You work your way up from farm hand to GM. It’s not about the best talent or results like a serious organization. It’s more about how well you remember the owners niece and nephews at the annual April golf tournament.
An extension for Conroy means that clearly ownership is on board with his vision for the team. Now maybe everyone in this sub can calm the fuck down a bit.
