Rich Eisen’s Message to Eagles Fans after Philadelphia’s Black Friday Loss to the Chicago Bears

Okay, Eagles fans, I know you’re pissed. I know you might have been booing at your television set like everybody in the link was on Friday. Didn’t look pretty. And just like the Chiefs, they’re Super Bowl compadres from just a few months ago. They’re making too many mistakes and they’re also coming in in waves. They’re coming in droves. They’re coming in tandem. If it’s not the offensive line making a mistake pre- snap or the offensive line blowing an assignment so Squan still can’t get his chunk plays or Jaylen Herz isn’t protected or the offensive line does hold up and does give Herz protection and he’ll miss a throw like he did to Devonte Smith in the first half when Dallas Gard was also wide open would have been a touchdown in either case. They had to settle for a field goal making it 73 as opposed to a tie game early on in this game. Herz’s also trying to make a play, throwing it downfield, and Kevin Bard picks him off. Or Herz on a tush push, fumbles, and it’s obvious enough for the refs to actually officiate it and call it the fumble that it was. or dropped passes or the defense giving up 281 yards on the ground or penalties or coaching decisions like the one that mystifies me completely when AJ Brown caught his second touchdown of the game to make it a nine-point contest and the Eagles decide to go for two from there. I don’t I don’t understand that stuff. I don’t understand why you don’t just kick the extra point and go for two when you absolutely must do it. And I understand I guess it must be easier to go for two when it’s least expected to go for it. But it’s not a surprise. You’re lining up for a two-point play no matter what. It’s you against them. It’s not a surprise. It’s not like you’re you’re trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat. You’re going for two. And it just doesn’t make sense to do that. kick the extra point, kick it deep, use your three timeouts, then go for the touchdown drive with no timeouts left. Maybe you could even keep it in front of the two-minute warning and have a timeout in your back pocket. But instead, Nick Serriani goes for two and it’s a nine-point game. Now you got to go on side and we all know what happened after that. So, the Eagles are making too many mistakes. But unlike the Chiefs, who I from this chair on Thanksgiving after they lost in Dallas, I I said the Chiefs were in big-time trouble about making the playoffs because they’re six and six and they’re in third place in their division. And they’ve lost to the two teams in front of them already. And they do face the Chargers again and they do face the Broncos again, both at home, which is good for them because they’re much better at home. and the fact that they are six and six and have lost to the two other teams currently occupying spots in the AFC wildcard positions and the Bills and the Jaguars, the Chargers is the other. So, they’ve got to leapfrog teams and they can’t tie the teams at the end of the day because they don’t have the tie breaks against them. That’s why they’re in trouble. That’s why I’m concerned about the Chiefs making the playoffs. The Eagles are eight and four. There’s a reason why the Prime Video broadcast showing their odds of making the playoffs, they would had a better than 99% chance of making the playoffs had they won this game against the Bears Friday. It’s only a 95% chance now that the Eagles make the playoffs. They only lost 4%. It’s 95% chance that the Eagles are going to make the playoffs. And that’s the ultimate thing, you fans. Yes, I’m directing my comments directly to you. Um, that’s the one thing you should be worried about. Your team going to make the playoffs or not. Now, I understand one year 10 and one making the playoffs and they got one and done and you’re afraid that’s going to happen again because of what I just said, too many mistakes. But of everything I just said is fixable. It’s not like one of these folks who’s so crucial to your chances of winning are injured. So, for some reason, it’s all happening. and for some reason it’s not going well. And you could blame the OC, you could blame the quarterback, you can blame the offensive line, you could blame the head coach, you can blame whoever you want. And you’d probably be right pointing a finger, but at the end of the day, the Philadelphia Eagles are eight and four and they’re now moving to the N AFC West for the next two games. They’re going out to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers where, trust me, they’ve been at Charger games. And with all due respect to the Chargers organization and their fans, it’s going to be a home game for the Philadelphia Eagles. And I imagine the Eagles fans who show up here in Los Angeles won’t be as salty and booing the Eagles as loudly as the home fans were today, which I can’t imagine makes it any easier for the Eagles to execute feeling that pressure. So, they’re going to be in Los Angeles taking on a Chargers team that that could beat them. Sure. But it’s going to be a home game for them. And then they go home to take on a Raiders team that has only two wins. You see where I’m going with this? And then they’ve got two games left with the Washington Commanders. They’re finished with the Cowboys. They’re finished with the Giants. And they take on a Bills team that is going through similar struggles as the Eagles, if not worse, because they’re seven and four. They’re in second place in their division. They’re the seven seed in the AFC. The Eagles are the three seed and the Eagles are in first place and the pressure is on the Cowboys to come catch them while they Eagles take on the Raiders and the Commanders twice. So, I understand that sucked. again, two straight games in a row and about a month of offensive struggles at least. You can go further back to all the stuff. AJ Brown’s catching his passes. He’s catching his passes and the team’s still losing because they are making too many mistakes and they are injured on that offensive line as is obviously the Chargers who they’re going to see next week say crime a river on injuries to the offensive line and how you can overcome them or succumb to them. But again, 8-4, I know you’re 8-2. I know you’re feeling great about yourselves. I know how well the Eagles were playing in the first half of the season and not so much now. I get it. But first place in division, taking on the Raiders and the Commanders twice out of your final five games, it’s doable. It’s doable to fix this stuff. It’s doable to get your offensive line healthy and clicking. It’s 100% doable. Just look at the Bears. They started 0 and2 in division. They’ve won nine of 10 and they haven’t done it before with a bunch of guys who have not done it before and a head coach in his first year. The Eagles have all been there and done that. So, I’m trying to preach calm again. I’m sure it’s not landing this commentary, but there’s time to fix what’s fixable. And a lot of this stuff is fixable. I don’t know why it’s happening all at once. I don’t know why it’s happening all at once to the Chiefs either. But the Eagles still are going to make the playoffs and they’re going to have to pull it together because a team like the Bears or the Rams who had a win right there in Philadelphia if they could only have made a kick in the fourth quarter, you know, they could take the Eagles out again. But that’s for down the road. As for Friday, moving on to the Los Angeles Chargers at 8-4 at top the division. A game and a two wins and a loss above the Cowboys who are taking on the Lions next. And the Lions need that W. Boy, do they ever. So, sorry Eagles fans, it’s not as bad as you think. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. 1. Hurts is just a subpar quarterback. Period. He’s been in the league too long to not have progressed and see the field better. Dont wanna hear about different OCs, and Oline not playing well.

  2. Eagles did the Bears a huge favor going for two and not converting. Eagles were right back where they started. Still needed two scores and now had a lot less time to do it.

  3. Bears fan here. Eagles fans turned their own stadium into a hostile environment for their home team. Absolutely terrible fan base giving up on their team in a winnable game. You don’t deserve to go anywhere this season.

  4. I see a lot of people trying to use an excuse so dumb to boo their team. So what that they had a drop in 23. Your team is not bad enough to be booed. They’re better than 90% of the NFL. Just a bunch of unruly fans that act like a spoiled girl where nothing is enough.

  5. For those thinking the world is coming to an end, Hurts is 100% to blame….consider other tQB, other teams over the last 5 weeks and other playoff contenders struggling and the fact that Hurts actually has been one of the best QB over that span yet every single game win or lose he is criticized.

    Last 5 games (unless noted)

    Jared Goff: 10td, 2int (3-2)

    Daniel Jones: 10td, 4int, 6 fumbles (3-2)

    Justin Herbert: 10td, 5int (3-2)

    Aaron Rodgers: 9td, 4int (2-3)

    Drake Maye: 9td. 4int, 3 fumbles (5-0)

    Patrick Mahomes: 8td, 5int (2-3)

    Brock Purdy: 8td, 7int, 1 fumble (3-1) – last 4

    Sam Darnold: 8td, 7int, 3 fumbles (4-1)

    Kyler Murray: 7td, 3int, 1 fumble (2-3)

    Baker Mayfield: 7td, 4int, 3 fumbles (1-4)

    Mac Jones: 7td, 5int, 2 fumbles (2-3)

    Michael Penix: 6td, 0int (1-4)

    Jordan Love: 6td, 1int (3-2)

    Dillion Gabriel: 6td, 2int (1-4)

    Geno Smith: 6td, 3int (0-5)

    Marcus Mariota: 6td, 5int, 2 fumbles (1-4)

    Tua Tagovailoa: 6td, 6int, 3 fumbles (3-2)

    Trevor Lawrence: 6td, 6int, 3 fumbles (3-2)

    Cam Ward: 5td, 2int, 3 fumbles (0-5) *

    Lamar Jackson: 5td, 3int, 4 fumbles (4-1)

    Bryce Young: 5td, 4int (3-2)

    J.J. McCarthy: 5td, 9int, 5 fumbles (1-4)

    Justin Fields: 4td, 1int, 1 fumble (2-3)

    Tyler Shough: 3td, 3int, 1 fumble (1-3) – last 4 *

And this is with bad playcalling, no run game, banged up o-line, defense that couldnt stop a high school team from putting up 400+ yards. Eagles

also are top 10 in penalties, have had too many turnovers the last two weeks, missed extra points etc. Hurts hasnt been flawless by any means but people love to place 100% blame on him.

Meanwhile look at hoe bad Lamar Jackson has been and people gush praise over him, give him nearly all the credit for the wins yet he has 5td, 7 turnovers in their last 5. Sam Darnold was on MANY NFL MVP lists last week. His team is 4-1 over that span but he has 8td, 10 turnovers. Cam Ward has been better! A rookie on a 1 win team. 8-4 is not the end of the world but right now
things 100% look like 2023 due to the playcalling on offense and the defense being sloppy as hell. Fact is, no team in the NFL has had to go through 6 playcallers since 2021 except this team and they have manged the 2nd most wins over that span but in 2023 and 2025 their downfall is mostly due to the playcalling. Patullo needs to be removed. Promote our QB coach. He has been a HC and OC in college, has a history of playcalling. At this point it needs to happen. In 2023 we had to change the DC during the season. Right now Sirianni MUST demote Patullo.

  6. It's only fixable if those in charge of fixing things are aware there's a problem. It's only fixable if the O Line doesn't make stupid errors . It's only fixable if they stop making stupid mistakes that gets penalized. I hope they find a way, but I have been saying since the start of the season, it feels like 2023 all over again.

  7. Frank reich is available now. After lurie watching fans leave the stadium, before the game was over time was. He definitely is demoting KP. This is the last week to try to fix the offense with a play caller change. It cant get any worse. You're not getting anywhere with KP If howie and lurie are serious about trying to save this season. They have to hire someone else, before next week prepartion begins. You cant expect the defense to bail us out every game. They been doing it. We should of had a TD after that hunt pick. Once again though offense fails the defense.this is the easiest season to repeat. we cant let it all go down hill because the damn OC!!! I truly believe with a. letter experienced play caller it will spark the offense

  8. Eagles fans just now seeing the reality everyone else been realized, despite telling people they “don’t know ball” 😂 respect to the ones who called it AND the fans who have a grasp of reality

  9. In my opinion, as a fan of the sport, the Eagles have really only forced a win 2 or 3 games this season. They were just enough better than the opponents the other times they recorded a win.

  10. The Bucs have perfected the midseason slump. Start strong enough to get your confidence up. Drop some midseason games against strong opponents, lull them into a fall sense of security. Win out your last 6 get a favorable playoff matchup. Be in a weak enough division to make it all work. Set yourself up for 3 wins and you're in the super bowl. It'll work eventually.
