Raiders’ decision to fire OC Chip Kelly underscored lack of cohesion in building under HC Pete Carroll

  1. This makes me feel better, I think? Maybe it means Pete is not as washed as we think. It looks like he gave chip free rein to run the offense until he finally decided to pull the plug. Hopefully this means that most of the issue resided with Chip and the whole thing is not a dumpster fire.

  2. Does anyone else find it odd that Ian Rappoport would put his name on this while Pete is still the coach ? It reads as someone paving the way for Pete to get fired.

  3. Well this is a hit piece if I’ve ever read one before. Yikes.

Fire the entire coaching staff and start over. Let Spytek hire the HC he wants to pair himself to and let that HC hire his staff. No more trying to piece it together. Hire people to do their job and let them do it.

  4. I’ve been saying that Chip was just the scapegoat. Pete is the problem. I’ll be happy if I’m proven wrong on Sunday but I’m expecting another miserable effort from the team.

  5. So Pete wanted to run Seattle offense and defense and the coordinators are getting the blame.

If Pete isn’t fired, I’m ready for another 2 win season next year.

  6. Well Pete got nobody to but to blame himself for tarnishing his own legacy. He had numerous opportunities to fire his son or at least move him to a different position but he couldn’t swallow his pride. Thank you Pete Carroll for fielding the worst team
Raider Nation has seen since 2006.

  7. The biggest non-performance issue I have had this year is that it has been constant leaks and it’s fairly transparent they’ve mostly been from Pete’s camp. Just totally unprofessional self-serving stuff. At least Chip has had his chance to fire back now. Fire everyone.

  8. We can’t be this dysfunctional under a 70+ year old coach.

A month ago I wasn’t in favor of letting Pete Carroll go. But a combination of the following are leading me to want to move on from Carroll:

    1. Personnel decisions: playing Bowers when he’s injured, not benching Geno Smith, not starting the rookies on OL, and not enabling our skill position rookies for success (Jeanty, Bech, and Thornton), etc

    2. Reports of front office and coaching staff not being aligned on priorities for the season

    3. Reports of possible (in best case scenario) confusion among play calling and (in worst case scenario) the OC sabotaging our play calls and/or sabotaging the OC

    4. Entrusting a multi billion dollar operation to your nepo and incompetent kids who have produced sub par results

    5. Extremely disappointing results on the field (we arguably won’t win another game this season)

  9. 40 year Hawks fan…get rid of Pete!!! Game completely passed him by. He’s a good cheerleader coach. But. Jamal Adams? Old Lockett? Geno?
Now you’re seeing what we were seeing.
Not the same division anymore so not much hate towards you now…but save yourselves!! Pete and Geno have to go before you see a winning season.
    Good luck Raider nation.

  10. I’ve been so hesitant to jump on the fire Pete bandwagon. But if we have a top 2-3 pick and can get a qb, we become a little more attractive for a new HC… I’m pretty torn. 4 HCs in 4 years is just horrible.

  11. Doesn’t matter who’s fault it really is at this point. Clearly a completely failed experiment and you can only clean house and reset. Give Spytek the keys so we at least have a unified vision

  12. What all these reports are building is the case that Pete Carroll wasn’t truly the guy that chose Chip Kelly. There are other explanations, but this one most easily explains them having a difference in vision, despite being on the same staff. It also explains why they trade for Geno Smith who has done best in offenses that feature competent use of play-action and a balanced run game, even though imo that’s not really what Chip gravitates towards.

If you’re gonna hire a guy but not let him choose his staff, then don’t hire the guy. If you’re gonna hire someone, let them cook in that role.

  13. “Building under Pete Carroll”. I get the feeling they don’t think he’s going to be there long enough to build anything.

  14. So he wanted to run more garbage shotgun runs with the worst line in the league. Thankful Pete got him outta here
