The Seahawks won a Super Bowl the year prior, the Falcons haven’t
Falcons was worse. At least Seattle had just won one. Falcons are still broken, too.
Falcons pretty easily for me
Falcons for sure, but Seahawks was my favorite of the two.
Depends on whether you think being on top of the world and losing it all in a second, or being on top of the world and losing it all over a period of 3 quarters is worse. Instant death or bleeding out essentially
The Falcons had an incredible season and Ryan was the MVP. Biggest SB collapse.
But Seattle was poised to be a dynasty. But this loss was so back-breaking it literally collapsed a potential dynasty and the Legion of Boom was dismantled. People will point out that their SB victory the year prior eases the suffering a little, but I disagree. I think it lifted them up to be smashed by Butler on the goaline, never to recover.
I think it was ultimately worse for Seattle.
Blowing the largest lead in Super Bowl history won’t be topped until someone else blows the largest lead.
28-3,
the Seahawks one literally came down to the last play of the game
28-3
Watching my friends (all Pats hatters) deflate after the Malcom Butler interception takes the cake so I’m going to say that since I have no way the gauge a question like this.
They were on the wrong end of the most famous scoreline in sports history. 28-3. It cannot get worse than that.
The Falcons has to be worse for their fans. This was like their redemption arc after they lost Hooker Bowl. They literally let up 31 unanswered points to lose in OT. I will say Pete Carroll is a dumbass for not giving it to beast mode but at least that was a great back and forth match up all game.
Atlanta with ease
Falcons never recovered as a franchise.
Yes
28-3
Seahawks were in it till the end. Falcons thought they had the game won at half time.
Falcons was far worse.
It’s definitely the Butler Did It!
As a single moment, it’s definitely the Seahawks. It was the final moments of the game and just a formality before they win a SB.
But the Falcons was a slow torture and must have been agonizing to watch. They also hadn’t won anything recently (and still haven’t) like the Seahawks did
I feel bad for Marshawn though. But also, bless you Pete for your coaching decisions at the end.
Atlanta. Seattle was a defending a champ that lost on an all time defensive play. Atlanta had a three hour car crash on live television.
Falcons, at least the Seahawks won before so we can relate to that in 07 and 11. Although 07 is probably the most heartbroken i’ve been as a Pats fan
I don’t think I’ll ever get over the fact that we were on the right side of two of the most compelling losses in SB history over the span of 2 calendar years
Atlanta by a mile. Yes, this broke the Seahawks for years, but the horror of the slow death by a thousand cuts is way worse.
Falcons a million times. Seahawks had that one and they were not thoroughly, utterly humiliated at defeat.
Seattle killed what could have been the 2010s dynasty and started the Pats 2010s dynasty instead. Atlanta was a loss the franchise never recovered from.
Atlanta was worse. Seattle was a neck and neck heavyweight fight till the end. Quite possibly one of the best Super Bowls I watched. It was the best qb in history against one of the best defense qbs in NFL history and ended on one of the greatest defensive plays in history.
Atlanta OTOH raced out to a 28-3 lead that has been blown at like 3 times in NFL history at that point and time (Vikes/Colts 2022 didn’t happen yet). They had a 99.9% chance of winning that game and they completely collapsed. The franchise has made one playoff appearance since. It’s been almost a decade now. For a team that has never had much history behind them, this is the dark cloud that hangs over the franchise. Like their Bucky Dent moment.
Oh the Falcons for sure. Not only did the defense totally fail in preventing a MAJOR comeback but their offense could not increase their lead.
Falcons had the game locked up. I guess you could say Seattle too but Marshawn could have fumbled or not gotten the TD, we’ll never know. Falcons had that game locked up and did a once in a lifetime choke job
Falcons set the gold standard for comebacks
The falcons game it isnt even close.
The Falcons and it’s not even close. The Seahawks were clearly an inferior team that lucked into being in winning position, the Falcons had that game won and gagged ridiculously hard.
Both are bad, but I will say this. The emotional shift that was so instant, from doom dread and despair to jubilance, happiness and excitement during the Seattle SB is something I have never and will never experience again on that sort of magnitude.
Falcons. People are still talking about that game 8 years later (as they should- greatest comeback ever!)
I was just sitting down to jerk off and this is the top image in my feed. Fuck yeah.
Pats possibly stopped two dynasties
Its the Falcons and isnt even close
Seahawks were a bullet to the head while the falcons slowly bled out
For Seattle, you can actually justify making the play call they did when Malcolm intercepted it. Overall, the Patriots just executed better and were prepared. It was a moment.
With the Falcons it was a complete breakdown for over a full quarter of football where they just had to not continually be and/ or do dumb stuff. Atlanta as a whole had horrible situational awareness by coaches and players, poor play calling, poor game management and failure to execute what they were trying to do compounded by errors and bad decisions on the field which made bad situations worse.
Falcons. Not even close that play the Seahawks called had been their bread and butter all season long and they needed to get something called quickly cause the clock hasn’t stopped. It was a good call either you completed and get a touchdown or it’s incomplete and it stops to clock. Problem was the third option. But that hadn’t happened to them I think except maybe one time the whole season.
