Well, he is in a place where you can make all the pics that that you want. missed the annual Thanksgiving Mackie trip uh to Vegas. So, he is out for today’s show, Sin City. But we do have his picks, I am sure. Vikings Seahawks on Sunday. Vikings, no hope for them. They are This is So, just to spoil things, they’re an 11 and a half point dog. That is correct. How long has it been since the Vikings have been an 11 and a half point dog decks? Glad you asked that, Jud. And we’re going to go over that today. Oh, you got it. Beautiful picks. I do. Oh, beautiful. Beautiful. cuz I was going to say 11 and a half in the National Football League. That is a enormous deficit. It actually it it wasn’t that long ago, but I will say the next the next gap is a longer time. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Yep. Is a is a decently longer time. Yep. Okay. So, yeah, we’ll go over all this. Uh Philip has sent me all of the same stuff we go over with uh on Purple Picks every week. Hit the like button, hit the subscribe button here. Vikings vent line ready to rock. uh after the game on Sunday night. Uh but before we do that, Padres’s Jud from One Declan to a Zulgad. Yep. To a Patties at Padres’s. Love me love me some Padres. We’ve had some great events there. We’ve hung out there. We’ve drank many beers there. Tell us about our friends at Padres’s. I I definitely will. And guess what? An event upcoming. We’ll get the details to you soon at Padres’s again as we continue uh to trek back there. Why? Because it’s a fantastic place to hang out. It’s a great room to hang out in. It’s also a great place to enjoy their beer. And that beer, I’ve told you for a while now, their red, the red chimney, it’s an absolute classic. It is hard to find a good red in this country these days. Padres’s makes one of the best. Um, they also have Patty’s Premium, which is more of a sessions beer. Also absolutely outstanding. It’s a great beer to watch football with because you can definitely enjoy it. It’s very light. Um, Padres’s what they are doing too is they are just brewing beer. They are just brewing beer. Far too many places are like, “We’re going to reinvent the wheel. We’re going to come up with this drink and that drink.” Not at Padres’s. Here’s what the Sharps Here’s what the Sharks Here’s what the Sharks Here’s what uh all the other markets are saying about the Vikings. So right now 53% of the bets are on the purple or on the Vikings. Yep. 54% of the money Yeah. is on Seattle though. So makes sense. Uh that from Action Network. So the Vikings are massive underdogs. Jud just brought this up. Um so they’re 11 and a half point dogs. as a head coach of the Vikings. Uh Minnesota has never covered as a double-digit dog under KOC. Uh Okonnell’s Vikings have closed as a sevenpoint underdog or higher twice. They’re 2 and 0 straight up and against the spread. And here are the biggest uh uh spreads in the last 20 years for the Vikings. Uh so they were 12 and a half point dogs in 2021 at against the Packers I think. Uh that was that the Shawn Manning? No, that was 2020. I’m surprised it wasn’t in in 21. Let’s see here. 12 go to 2021 season. I don’t doubt Phil’s research here. Just I think that was the game that Kellen man played in, right? I think 21 was the game that man played in and and it was a complete disaster. Yeah, the dates wrong on that. So, it said the email says a different date, but it is that game. It is that game. Yep. Yep. Yeah, that game was um Okay, that’s very fair. 12 and a half points. Uh but before that to I teased you earlier uh they were 13 point dogs at Seattle in 2013 and they were uh 14 point dogs in the infamous Philly game that got moved to a Tuesday that you were at. Oh snowtorm 2010. Yeah. That that was 2010. And and they won. And they won straight up. Yep. They won straight up. Crazy game. Joe Webb, right? Joe Webb game. Joe Webb. Yep. Yep. and and that was the game that they decided to safety uh or not safety quarterback blitz with Antoine Winfield like the entire night and Philly had no clue. Uh the Seahawks are doubledigit favorites in consecutive weeks. They have a solid win percentage of 72% this year. Teams listed as double-digit favorites in consecutive games. Win percentage is 70% and they are 39 and 50 though against the spread dating back to 2004. Uh JJ McCarthy had a rough week obviously in week 12. Quarterbacks with two plus picks, five plus sacks last uh and less than a 100 yards passing on at least 15 pass attempts since 2010. Here’s the list of quarterbacks. JJ McCarthy, Bailey Zappy, Clayton Ton, Josh Rosen. The only quarterbacks uh to have done that since 201. Okay. Sam Darnold has been a favorite of six points or more. nine times the starter. He is nine and0 straight up and seven and two against the spread in those games. Oh wow. So he’s a pretty when when a touchdown or more, he’s usually pretty good at winning straight up and against the spread. In the last 20 years, Darnold’s 9-0 straight up mark as a favorite of six points or more is the second best undefeated mark behind Ryan Fitzpatrick who is 10 and0 against straight up and Darnold can match that this week. Kind of a nice little one there. Yeah. Oh, fits magic. Yep. Uh, let’s see here. A couple other notes. If the Vikings are forced to start Max Brosmer, uh, quarterbacks making their first career start are three and three straight up uh, this season. Shigir Sanders, Jackson Dart, JJ McCarthy winning outright. Mhm. Um, but on the other side, over the last 40 years, six quarterbacks have made their first start in Seattle, and they’re one and five straight up. It’s a hard place to play. I will say that it is. A couple other notes here. The Viking season is spiraling fast. They lost three in a row straight up and against the spread. They are 1 and5 straight up against the spread in their last six. Under KOC, Minnesota has dealt has hasn’t dealt with losing well. After any straightup loss, they are just 813 and one against the spread. And of seven quarterbacks under Oonnell in this spot, only Wentz is above 500 against the spread at 2 and one. So, a lot of info, a lot of trends there. not going so well for the Vikings. We’ll we’ll make our picks here eventually for the game. Again, 11 and a half point favorites. But Jud, what do you got for me? What what what are you most confident in for the Vikings going into this game? Oh my god. So So little so little in this game. I just have no I have zero feel like I I think that the spread might be accurate, but I have zero feel for like Brosmer, you know, what’s going to happen there. Um, but I’m gonna go with a I’m gonna go with something that I’m confident in because the Vikings do it defensively, and that is the fact they’re going to get after Sam Darnold with the blitz. Okay. Okay. The Vikings lead the entire league in blitz rate at 47% this season. That’s a very Brian Flores like statistic. It’s not surprising. The only problem is that Darnold has actually been very good against the Blitz this season and in 2024 with the Vikings graded in the top five by PFF each season of those years for quarterbacks under pressure. Um, interestingly though, the Vikings, who were tied for fourth in the entire league a year ago with 49 sacks, um, are tied for 12th now with 27. So, I think they’re going to get after Sam. I don’t know it’s going to work. Statistics say it probably won’t, but that is how much I am uh um grasping for straws here at like what the Vikings what I’m confident in that the Vikings will do. Um I am confident in zero things that they will be successful. Zero. So the only thing I’m confident in there’s only one other team outside of the Vikings that’s turning over the football well the Vikings are turning over the football the most in the NFL this year. 21 giveaways. In second place is the Seattle Seahawks. Okay. At 20. Okay. So, so Seattle has given the football away. This might be the rare time the Vikings could potentially win the turnover battle. You win the turnover battle. Typically, you win the football game. Not always, but that’s the thing that I’m probably most confident in is the Vikings have a shot here to maybe win or neutralize the turnover battle. We’ll see how that goes. Both these teams a combined 41 uh giveaways this season. Just out of curiosity, if it it’s in front of you, what is Seattle’s turnover differential? Minus seven. Okay. And the Vikings are minus minus 12. 12. Okay. Wow. Yep. Okay. That’s good stuff. Yeah. So, that’s So, you think the ball will be on the ground or at least picked off? Yeah. A few times. And the Vikings, have we gone down five games without a pick? I think something like that. Yeah, it’s an extended period of time. It has been It’s been a rough there. Um Joe, what are you most nervous about for the Vikings going into this game? Take your pick. Take your pick. Take your pick. This is very um I’m going to go with um the fact that the offense, no matter who’s a quarterback, it’s going to be rough. So the Vikings are currently ranked 25th in scoring, 20.4 points per game. They are going to be going against a Seahawks defense that is seventh in points allowed, giving up 19.7 points per game and top 10 in total defense and run defense and their pass defense is 14th. So it’s just outside the top 10 basically. Um boy, I mean offensively this is going to be this is going to be a slog. It’s a tough place to play. I don’t know what the forecast is. Uh but that’s my that’s my biggest concern is that the Vikings offense, forget the quarterback, just as a whole, is facing a huge uphill climb here. Yeah, it I mean to your point, it is kind of a grabag of what would you like uh what would you like to do here? Um they’re second in total points scored. They’re running the football. You know what’s interesting is they have Sam Darnold and he’s having a great he’s still having a really good year. They’re 31st in pass attempts. Seattle. So they’re pound they’re Yeah. Well, that’s probably huge. Yeah. They are 31st in pass attempts. They’re second They’re second in rushing attempts. And it’s it’s literally the polar opposite of the Vikings. So Seattle is only gaining 3.9 yards per carry. That’s 26th in the NFL, but they’re running the football at the second highest rate also in the NFL. Now, they’re probably playing with some leads, right? Like sometimes the stat can be a little misleading. Sure. But that is interesting. They’re literally the anti- KOC adoption of of the run in the pass here, which is which is interesting. The thing that I guess Yeah. that would make me the most nervous is just Yeah. I mean, when you’re when you’ve scored the second biggest amount of points and it’s a hard place to play in Seattle environment wise, that makes things very difficult. So, there’s a lot to be nervous about. You’re potentially starting an undrafted quarterback. Um, I mean, pick take your pick here. Obviously, Phil’s not with us uh to make his, but at the same time, uh, not good. In fact, uh, and a lot of old friends, a lot of old friends on that Seattle coaching staff. Clint Kubak, Rick Dennison. Rick Dennison’s the run game coordinator. Oh, wow. Okay. Les Frasier, assistant head coach. Les. Les. I didn’t even know that. I didn’t know that either. Oh, I’m looking at Pro Football Reference. Great man. Yeah, I’m looking at Pro Football Reference. I didn’t know this either. I’m gonna I’m just going to Google just I’m going to Google this. There have been through the years there has been an incredible amount of ties between the Vikings and the Seahawks. Like it’s just been it’s bizarre. It’s been like uh um it’s been one of the teams that the Vikings probably have been tied to as far as former players and coaches. And I have no idea why. Um by the way, the Vikings trail this uh alltime series 7 to 13. The Seahawks have won 13 of the 20 matchups against each other. Wow. The um the forecast very favorable. Okay. Partly sunny, high of 45 and a low of 35 on Sunday in Seattle and it looks like no precipitation. Okay. So, we’re going to get a good track. Nice. I don’t think it’ll matter, but we’re gonna but we’re going to get a good track. Okay. All right. We’re going to make our picks here, but a shout out to Underdog. Um, you know what’s funny is this is probably a game in which I won’t be completely shocked if they win just because it’s such a like everyone’s like they’re not going to, you know, they’re no no they’re dead, right? It’s just one it’s just one of those weird it it’s a football thing. Uh, but that being said, I have no faith. So, I would be a hypocrite to say I would not be surprised if they won and I take them to win outright or cover. No, I’m gonna go with Seahawks win. Seahawks cover. Uh, I can’t I can’t rationalize it going well. Sorry. Yeah. Um, I’m picking Seattle to win. Where I’m conflicted is the spread. I typically I typically I should probably just start tracking this. Uh, I don’t like double-digit spreads in the NFL. I just don’t. They’re Yeah, you shouldn’t. It It The games are close. In college, you can be a 24 and a half point dog and that team will still easily cover the spread. they’ll double it for God’s sakes. Uh, but in the NFL, I don’t like double digit spreads. So, I’ll I’ll take the Seattle Seahawks to win, but I have the Vikings covering the 11 and a half. And they could lose by 10, you know, and and it might not even be that. I got no faith. Yeah. Yeah. So, I have them losing to Seattle, but covering and so does Phil. Phil has the Seahawks winning and covering also the 11 and a half. So, yeah, we’ll see, man. We’ll see how this goes. Uh Vikings vent line on Sunday night though. We’ll be ready to rock. It’s a 305 tick uh kickoff locally in the Twin Cities.
