Hebert: Saints got whipped in the trenches in demoralizing loss to Falcons

[Music] Well, uh I don’t know that don’t you have to score to win? That’s a fact. And uh how many how many points our offense scored? Three. Three points. We didn’t even get a touchdown in this day and age. The defense did that for them. Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. I mean, come on. You ain’t going to win, Jack. I mean, I think the defense played uh well enough at times to show you how bad it was. I don’t know if I’ve ever witnessed this. We went backto back 15 play drives and we got only three points. It’s almost impossible to possess the ball that many plays. 15 play drives. 15 play drives and we scored three points. What are we doing on a red zone offense? What are we doing goalto offense? I mean, uh, you know what I look at? Uh, I mean, I’m Max Kellis. He’s the offensive coach, but offensive line, they get their ass kicked. I mean, uh, you know, it wasn’t like we’re going against the Eagles Dline or whoever you might think best of the best. It’s not like, uh, oh yeah, you look like the Falcons or they Well, you can’t run against them. Uh, you know, kind of. No, it it was like it’s very discouraging. Uh, listen, it’s been the same song and dance. If you look now, 11 games. We’ve been trailing start to finish. Eight out of 11 games. Eight out of 11. So, the crowd’s there to cheer. They want to cheer. What are they going to yell? Just to be yelling. How many times you heard me say that? You got to get off their great start and then the the fans are into the game. I mean, uh, when you look at Okay, Steve, who do I look at? We playing at Miami, right? And well, we have two more home games, right? Correct. We’re going to have the Jets visiting and also the Carolina Panthers. Okay. I would like to see us just please score some points in the first quarter and and have a lead. You know, we’ve been outscored 85-9 in the first quarter the whole season, including today. Yeah, including today. 85-19. That’s well over uh four to one. Uh that that and and that’s ridiculous. Look, we had again when you look at backto-back 15 play drive, scored only uh three points. We ran 51 plays the second half and scored three points. Now, I take the points where we can get him, but we can’t even count on our kicker. We kind of can’t even count on Blake Groupy. Uh when you think, “Yes, oh, but Bobby, it’s not like a give me extra point.” Well, no. You’re you’re a pro. You know, you could be in a slump that you’re a human being, but then u Okay, you could be in a slump, but then you kick it for somebody else. Yeah. And you got to go to another team. I think group is an NFL kicker, but he might have to kick for somebody else. Who Who was in a slump that we cut and is now kicking for Shawn Payeyton in the Broncos? You remember him? Oh, yeah. Will Lutz. Will Lutz cuz Will Lutz when we got rid of Remember I was kind of like, I don’t know, maybe we’d have to get a better kicker. No, that’s the way kickers are. But all I know is football players in locker rooms, they want to grab them damn little kickers. They just freaking made the kick, you know? You want to like just get up in your face. Well, come on. You touching my money. You got to get points when when you get in that situation. He missed a 38 47 yard at this day and age. No, it’s not like a 50 plus both of them. Now, you know, now they expect you almost to make that. Uh look at Dallas comes back gamewinning kick against the Eagles. No, he missed a 38 47 y. So now groupy has been five for seven from 30 to 39 yds and two for five from 40 to 49 yards. No, it’s it’s totally uh unacceptable and uh I thought we maybe turned the corner uh but not so fast. We were even favored. How many times we’ve been favored this year? We were favored like by point and a half. I don’t know. Flip a coin. But the final score wasn’t flip a coin. No. You know, it’s been like three-point games as of late. You know, I said that in the pregame. You look at four of the last six meetings between the two clubs have been decided by three points or fewer. The game was not 24 to 21 or something. No, it was 24 to 10. No, that that’s that’s a bug with it. And and you cannot afford uh to have that uh to say the least. And I don’t know. Um we can go to Atlanta and win. Now, the last time the Falcons beat the Saints in in the Superdome and uh yeah, in the season the Superdome was 2021. So, as of ladies, man, who’s who’s playing at home wins this matchup. Well, who knows? We might go to the Georgia and beat him there. We’ve done it before because you wouldn’t have this number. Look at this sample size. It’s a tie 500. We have 56 wins and 56 losses. You know, you look at the regular season series that that to me you went to by parody. That that is truly astounding. Unbelievable. And that’s why this rivalry is so intense. Yes. Uh because you have hope. You always have hope. Uh you know, cuz like, oh, we might win, we might not win. Well, we thought we were going to win this, especially with the win after we beat Carolina, the Falcons losing five games in a row. Uh they look like the more desperate team. They’re like, even though they’re not going to do anything, they ain’t catching the Bucks. I I don’t think. But, uh, you know, losing five in a row, they didn’t want to lose six in a row. But, uh, third down efficiency offensively is still unacceptable. Uh, no, not good enough. We were even worse, uh, coming into the game. We were worse this game than coming into the game as far as third down percentage. We were 38.8. That has to be at least mid-40s, if not higher. That means you’re controlling the e and flow flow of a game. The tempo, you hear me say it all the time. Uh, we were at basically 38 1.5%. Well, today we were 31% on third down. Only five or 16 uh 31%. Now defense I thought played well enough at times. They were only third down three of 12 25% but uh look red zone 0 for three. Goal to go 0 for two. I mean that’s terrible. That that’s horrendous. You’re not going to win anything. Uh you’re going to move the ball. We actually won the time of possession by uh almost 6 minutes, right? You know, uh, look at the plays, the number of plays. You know, I always look at that. You got to have at least 65 plays. We had 78. Look all the plays we had in the second half. They only had 55, but they were more efficient in their productivity uh, offensively. That stands to reason. Now, this needed to be flipped. I thought I didn’t say they really uh, like just gash us with the run, but Bean looked at a different level. You know, Alvin Camra got knocked out the game quick. But Bean Robinson had 107 total yards from scrimmage and he averaged five yards a carry. Not only 14 attempts, but he still averaged 5 yards a carry and as a team they were at 4.2 yards a carry. They averaged 4.2 yards a carry. We averaged 2.8. See those kind of things. Okay, we needed to average 4.2 and hold them flipped to 2.8. No. Uh that that’s all about winning football there. Now you look at the turnover margin. I thought maybe we’d be trending in the right direction and now we going I don’t know we take one step forward we take two steps back and the it was a giant step against Carolina but now we like going back again this is the kind of game that says I don’t know I got to wait and see about Tala Shug is Talshug the answer even though the supporting cast a big deal of that I I don’t know uh but I mean who made uh who made the plays or Bobby you have to look at the team who who made more plays Tyler Shuck or Kurt Cousins? The old man. I’m just Who made it? Just tell me, Steve. Who you think? The old man seemed a little bit more comfortable in the pocket, too. Yes. Yes. And And Way too comfortable. And I’m going to get to him. No, we sacked him. Um, but I’d have thought he’d got sacked more than Chuck. Shuck got sacked five times. Kurt Cousin got sacked three times. Right. But I’m still getting to there. I have to go through my list here. So, going back to the turnover margin, we’re minus one for the game. Now, we’re minus4 for the season. And you know, the Falcons, they plus five, right? That to me is promising, playing winning football, you know, taking it away and protecting the football. Uh the Saints didn’t take advantage of this. The Falcons had nine penalties. You never want nine penalties or more around 100 yards. They had nine penalties for 82 yards. So, let’s say sometimes nine penalties are 100 yards. It’s like giving up a touchdown. We still lost 24 to 17. So, we didn’t take advantage of that. What were they in field goal attempt? 24-10. I wish we had 17. No. um the penalty. We had the I got getting those points and we still don’t win, right? That’s what I was saying. So that’s bad. Understood. And then um you look at the tough field goal their field goal kicker made. He was three for three and we have won a three, you know, and you look how these games come down. Are you going to make the kick or miss the kick gamewinning kick? No. Uh uh listen, I think group is an NFL kicker. I just don’t know if he’s the future uh Saints kicker. I think that’s fair. I’m not I’m not being mean. It’s just the pro. It’s the pros. Is it crazy to say that there may be is there something wrong with the operation? Maybe like the holder or something. I I don’t know. That’s what that’s a good question. You know, as a special teams coach, Coach Galliano or or Coach Moore. I just can’t believe there’s been this dramatic of a fall from what we saw during camp. It wasn’t in the same holders in camp. For a while it wasn’t, I guess. Yeah. Well, whoever was holding in can’t bring his ass back to hold to hope for the field goals cuz groupy had the best training camp ever as far as field goal kicks. But you got to kick when the games count. Yeah. Not even preseason. They have to go when they count. But looking at Tyler had a quarterback rating of 74. Uh now this is another thing before I get to the quarterbacks. Look at the running game. I talked about Bjan. We actually contained Tyler Aier compared to we did in previous seasons. He only averaged 3.7 yards a carry. He had a long gain of 13. Bjan had a long gain of 32 and average of five yards a carry. But when Ali Chimera uh went down. So who we counting on now? We did run the ball 28 times. Who we counting on as our running backs? Devin Neil. We only had two re really running backs activated. Uh and and I’m counting of you know Deon Neil and Camar. So Chimera’s out. So now they counting on Taesm Hill that much to be purely a running back. Well, he averaged 1.7. Deon Neil averaged 2.6. Therefore, you know, was our leading rusher and he’s not even really a running quarterback. Tyler Shook. Yeah. Well, that ain’t good. I mean, when you look at that, so that’ll be interesting to see the significant injury where Alvin Camaro is at. I think now it’s his knee. It was his ankle. Now, knee. Yeah, he’s going to get the MRI in the knee. We’re waiting to find out what happens with that. Yeah, I think we might have seen uh you might see splashes now and then, but the best or truly the best of Alvin Chimera. Now, you get old as a running back when you hit 30. Uh I’m not saying all the way old, but you’re not the same stud like you could be week in and week out. Now, looking at Tyler Shuck, quarterback rating of 74. Now, the interception at the end, you know, you’re throwing it up. But he got sacked five times. I thought, if you’d have told me this before the game, who’s going to get sacked more? I thought I thought it’d be Kirk Cousins. He got sacked three times. Talshug five times. But looking at um now in the game he only threw 199 yards but highly efficient uh when he had that long gain that touchdown 49 yards to Mooney to two lane zone. Uh Mooney uh who had three targets three reception averaged 25 yds a catch had that 49 yd long touchdown. But Kurt Cousins quarterback rating 107. You know why that’s significant? cuz I thought we can’t let him get off like this cuz coming into the game, Kurt Cousins had a quarterback rating of 104.3 against the Saints. So now against the Saints, whether he’s been in a Vikings uniform, uh Washington uniform, Falcons uniform, he’s thrown 15 touchdowns against the Saints and five picks. So I think he’s played well to say the least against the Saints. Well, look at Shuck had that one pick he had to throw. They had a quarterback rating of only 74. I mean, where was our explosive uh plays with Chris? He had a long gain of 16 like Joan Johnson 16 yardds. Uh they both averaged basically uh 7 and 12 yards a reception. A was targeted 13 times, nine catches. Joan Johnson seven times, six receptions. So, nothing to write home about. Was a big positive. And Steve, I hope you gave him a game ball cuz I’ve been saying when is he going to come up with an interception? Justin Reed, he was the only one getting a game ball today, Bobby. Yes. So that one interception, tip ball, uh 49 yd touchdown cuz that was his first interception. I think all the practice and OTAAS in training camp we’ve witnessed. He never picked off a pass. Preseason, he finally got one. He made it count today for sure. When it counts, uh to get a big touchdown there. Also, I talked about this in the pregame. Uh more opportunities now for Mason Typton at wide receiver since Rashi is now with the Seahawks and he cut Brandon Cooks. Uh that Mason Tipton, he was hitting it. You can see how fast he was. Uh he and he broke tackles when he got even further. One uh return for 75 yards and he kicked it more to Pettis after that. But that was outstanding in the return game uh by Typton. Now, why did we get Typton? Did we maybe not get involved in the passing game? not he had four targets, three catches. He had a long gain of nine yards. So, uh nothing to really uh write home about as far as um us being explosive on the offensive side of the ball. Now, looking at um what we’re able to do uh defensively, uh Demario Davis, he’s always having 10 tackles. Uh Deario Davis, have to look at this. He is now if you look at it this season a lot of season of play you know do you hit that century mark in tackles and I think with Demario it’s more about 120 125 or coming into the game he had 91 now he has 101 so he’s already over 100 tackles on the season so Deario Davis ain’t our problem you know you want the young cats to show up oh we got to get we got to replace Demario Davis I think Demario Davis is pulling his weight uh with 11 total tackles Justin Reed a nice game Seven total tackles, interception, a pass defending. I thought Chase Young, especially at the beginning, looked explosive. He came up with a sack. Quarterback Curry tackle for Los Surn. You know, our special teams ace, who we counting on down the road today. What a sack today. Yeah, that shows you the effort. I don’t know what he he leaps over Kurt Cousin. They don’t give up on the play. He comes back and Kurt Cous. And he comes back and he still gets him down on a sack. Well, he had a a sack, three tackles. Quarterback Curry tackle fall loss and led the team with two special teams tackles. The old man, Cam Jordan, Cam Jordan comes up uh with another sack. And you got to give uh him credit. Do you know uh he’s now had 25 sacks against Atlanta, the most sacks against any team. But Bob, he should South opponent, but more than Tampa Bay, Carolina. And while I acknowledge uh Cam Jordan with 25 sacks, he surpasses the great Reggie White. And I’m gonna tell you uh in what category I mean by that. If you look at it coming into the game with 24 sacks, now he has 25. He was tied the sixth all time in NFL history against a single opponent uh with Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White who had 24 against the Giants. Well, now he has 25 against Atlanta. So he surpasses the great Reggie White. So you see a lot of times now uh older players like I say Cam Jordan still producing a high level and Deario Davis but really quick just a frustrating loss. Real quick with Cam Jordan too Bobby uh 126 career sacks now he per he surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Dwight Freeny for 19th all time. So 19th all time NFL history Dwight Freeny. We all remember him with the Colts out of Syracuse. Uh so that that that’s a that’s a great accomplishment. But um you know uh I’m telling you I don’t lost money. I thought for sure the Saints were going to win. Uh I’m not saying we’re going to crush him. I’ll say that’s about right. How Vegas has a point. I thought we thought old man Kirk and then no Drake London. But I thought okay we had 24 and Atlanta have about 20. You know something like that. But no that that that’s an embarrassing loss. 24 to 10. Again if you don’t score uh uh uh points you can’t win. We scored three points and the first quarter we never get off that fast start. I would like against the Dolphins I don’t care if we lose. How about we winning at the end? We score first against the Dolins in the first quarter and we winning after the first quarter. Bobby I I would think that’s a giant step. You asked so much. Yeah, cuz we haven’t No, we always behind and then for the fans to cheer for. I mean, you want to have a don’t feel advantage, we’re always behind. I mean, it’s ridiculous.

  1. I never annointed Tyler, and I'm certainly not going to dog him now. He played okay with a few exceptions. Kirk is a better QB than MPJr. This is more on the coaching staff. To anyone trying to rag on Tyler and blaming him solely for the loss you're out of your mind.

  2. I cant believe i am saying this so soon but kellen just looks horrible and clueless. His play calling is straight shit. Im giving this dude one more year.

  3. The first step to improve the team is to fire Mickey Loomis. The Saints have deficiencies in so many areas that only those in a position to design the team must be responsible. To blame individual players is to lose the big picture here. The fact that Loomis still has a job says it all about the future prospects of this team.

  4. Will Lutz was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for the second time in his career after completing 100% of his field goal and extra point attempts during Oct 2025. On November 21, the Broncos signed Lutz to a three-year contract extension. But Mickey wanted Grupe instead and traded Lutz for a 7th round pick! Another terrible decision by Mickey! He needs to retire.

  5. All these people claiming Kellen Moore must go really shows you don't know much about football. Give the man a fair chance. Maybe turns into a good coach great coach maybe not but he deserves a fair chance he was hired

  6. The only saving grace, the only hope in all of this, is if they are trying to tank, because if this is their best effort to win then they need to burn it all down. I can't stand the show Big Brother and my wife loves it, I was so happy to hand her the remote and watch big brother instead of that pitiful excuse for a football game. After an extra week to rest and prepare, that's the best that they could put out there on the field, they should feel ashamed. What were they doing with an extra week of rest and preparation? Playing paintball? This is more than just a quarterback issue, this goes all the way to the top. Mickey Loomis put this together, he did the grocery shopping and handed out these terrible contracts. Kellen Moore looks like he doesn't know what he wants to do (in over his head), and can't call a game to save his life. There is no quarterback or player(s) in the draft that will fix this. Bobby said it right, the fans want to cheer for the team, but you have to give them something to cheer for.

  7. I’ve been questioning Moore’s play calling the whole season, this game for example you come out in the 2nd half running the football effectively out of the I formation in the 1st 2 drives, for some reason Moore started spreading the formation in the shotgun and throwing the ball when ATL has been getting consistent pressure on every pass play, we should have continued to run the ball out of heavy formation and trying play action off of that and quick throws, but Moore did the opposite and Shough was under pressure every time, we definitely need brand new Left and Right guards next year and Fuaga been injured exposed the backup right tackle, and we need 2 legitimate wide receivers in the passing game to compliment Olave , so we need an overhaul on offense , I actually like Shough and if we give him protection and weapons and if Moore can call good plays for him I like what I see in Shough as a QB

  8. I will say it again this team is nothing but a paycheck cashing team. St. Augustin e or Edna Carr could have done a better job. Old man defense no O line and no QB. Put a good product on the field and we will cheer for them.

  9. Another thing that's frustrating personally is I can't figure this out they play okay one game they don't play good the next they win a game you think they're going to win another game and they lose I can't pinpoint their problem

  10. There's an old movie where there's this big black guy in the little white woman that he lives with and she said I pretend like the quarterback is your mother protect the quarterback

  11. The point is protect the quarterback you got to get a line who can do so and make a hole for the running back the running back can't run through nothing he needs a hole to run through😮

  12. Grapee AAAA NEEDS TO LEAVE THE COMFORT OF THE DOME GO KICK IN BUFFALO. OR GREEN BAY. I GUARANTEEEEEE HE MAKES THEM IN THE DOME THEN. HE THINKS THE GRASS IS GREENER GOOD BYE YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK

  13. I'm a Jags fan but in my 30+ year the NFL this has to be one of the worst Saints football teams in my lifetime. You guys and Pelicans fan need "Benson Out!" chants like the EPL soccer teams do with the managers when they run in a bad streak everywhere in the city!
