Today is November 30th!
The Winter Meetings will be held December 8th to December 11th in Orlando with the MLB Draft Lottery on December 9th and the Rule Five Draft on December 10th.
DJ Stewart turns 31 today! He was a member of the 2023 and 2024 Mets, picked up as a free agent in February 2023. After the Mets released him 2024, the Pirates signed him in January 2025 but he did not play in MLB, the Pirates released him in June after hitting .125/.245/.257 in AAA Indianapolis. He is currently a free agent.
Craig Swan turns 75 today! Swan was a right handed pitcher from Van Nuys, California who pitched 12 years for the Mets from 1973 to 1984. The Mets chose Swan in the third round of the 1972 draft after pitching for Arizona State and in the College World Series. He was the best pitcher on some god awful, terrible and shitty Mets teams in the late 1970s. In 1978, Craig Swan led the National League in ERA with 2.43 and even had a lower ERA than Tom Seaver. Swan had a winning record in 1979 and again in 1982 but struggled with run support (13 no-decisions in 1978) and various injuries throughout his Mets tenure. The Mets released him in May 1984 where he signed with the Angels to finish his MLB career.

I wonder when the next big move is coming. Has to be before the winter meetings, right?

In all of my thoughts about Murakami, here is where I ended up.
Guesses on what position (and who) our next incoming is?
I’ve got a list of hopes overall which depend on any more outgoings, but I think immediate next will be a starting pitcher. Maybe sign Giolito or Imai if we were looking for a #2-3.
Trading for Skubal would be cool but I think common suggestions are a huge overpay. The Tigers might take some of our infield logjam as part of the deal if we’re lucky. Otherwise the ace target has probably gotta be King imo.
Soto was under the legal drinking age when he was in the playoffs and the WS with the Nationals. Do you guys think he was allowed to drink the alcohol in the clubhouse after the games?
I remember Craig Swan. He was a really good pitcher for a couple of years. Those late 70s Mets were tough to watch, but Swan was one of the few reasons to tune in.
Anyone see the reports about Alonso? Seen Mets 5/150 supposedly close and also Boston 6/210
Decided to play MLB the Show franchise on MLB 25 the show (haven’t touched it yet this year). Did a quick sim type of deal. Not overly realistic, but fun fantasy GM play (I always find franchise more fun when it’s a team that needs a complete rebuild, but fun to try and build a mini dynasty sometimes).
2025: believe it or not, we missed playoffs on the last day of the season.
2026: lost in the NLCS to the Phillies (they then lost to the Yankees)
2027: 1 win away from beating the Yankees in the World Series.
Current team:
C – Francisco Alvarez – been ok. Hasn’t turned into the player expecting yet. In 28, he hit around 25 homeruns but batted around .215.
1B – Pete Alonso – after hitting free agency after 2026, was able to secure him on a 2 year $19M deal.
2B – Jett Williams (2027 ROY) – came up in September of 26 after a bunch of injuries. Won ROY in 27.
SS – Francisco Lindor – been playing well, currently playing out of his mind in October.
3B: Jacob Reimer (just took over for Brett Baty mid-season) – Baty finally looked like he found his swing in 26. Extended him 4 years at $9M and he was hitting near Mendoza line by all-star break in 27. Reimer was dominating AAA, so called up and never stopped dominating.
LF – Jarred Duran / AJ Ewing – traded for Duran after the 25 season late in the offseason. Been good. Ewing came up due to injuries at one point late in 26. Brought him back up in 27 due to injuries and been too good to not play. Him and Duran have been platooning a bit.
CF – Carson Benge – came up at all-star break in 2025. Been getting better each season. Dealt with bad injury in 26, and made all-star in 27.
RF – Juan Soto – mostly injured in 26, and rebounded tremendously in 2027.
DH – Yordan Alvarez – traded for after 25 season. Complete beast.
Rotation:
1. Tarik Skubal – tried trading for him in 25 and 26, but couldn’t get a deal done without trading McLean or Benge. Gambled in waiting for the offseason and while it didn’t look like it would happen, got 1 more offer at the end to add and secured him at $45M/9. Complete overpay but pitching was so bad in 25 and 26, went for it. Pitched to an ERA around 2.6 or 2.7. Been unhittable in the playoffs.
2. Shane McClanahan -traded at the deadline of 26. Extended in the offseason. Pitched to a low 3 ERA in 26, and pitched to a sub 3 ERA in 2027, while being unhittable in October.
3. Nolan McLean – while he had his moments in 25 and 26, he mostly didn’t pitch well. Ended 26 with ERA over 5, and was even sent down at one point. Came back in 2027 as a legit ace. Ended season with ERA around 2.2.
4. Shane Bieber – originally signed in the offseason before 2027 while not expecting to sign Skubal. Signed to a 3-4 year deal. He was the leading CY Young race for most of the season. Still ended up season sub 3 ERA.
5. Jonah Tong – got his shot in 2027. Pitched well but his 60 day IL at some point. Came back in the NLCS. Moved to the long man spot. Skubal ended up getting hurt in game 1, snd he went 5 scoreless innings to help secure a big win.
Bullpen:
Edwin Diaz – closer
Griffin Jax – setup
Taylor Rogers
Reed Garrett
Forgetting the rest of the bullpen, but traded and signed some mid-tier dudes who ended up being pretty good.
