ESPN: “The Vikings Know That They Have Something in Max Brosmer.” πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? So, of course, the story dour of the week is the starting of Maximus Brosmer uh up in Seattle against one of the best defenses in the National Football League. The whole Sam Darnold game. Yeah. And yeah, with Bromer, obviously there’s some more hype locally because he was the Minnesota Golden Gopher’s quarterback last year. Uh set a record for number of completions, also second all time for a single season completion percentage. So, we’ll be able to get the ball out accurately, which is what this offense needs. Plus, you know, the entire story of him as a UDFA, holy, he’s Quadira. And also too, so yes, I I feel like there’s a lot more hype around Brosmer starting than a UDFA in recent memory, right? And I I do think it’s important because you know Brosmer has been impressive so far this season when given opportunities whether it’s preseason whether it’s training camp and to be honest he he did beat out veteran Sam how he did beat out Brett Ripen who the coaching staff likes. So it’s not nothing like it seems insignificant but it’s certainly not nothing. And also like even though they brought aboard Carson Wentz as a veteran hedge that you know Bromer has been trusted to be the quarterback too when McCarthy got hurt uh and when Wentz went down he still remained quarterback too even though the Vikings brought aboard jumping John Walford and Desmond Ritter it’s still Brosmer getting the start so he does have faith of Kevin McConnell and company and so like we said that’s not nothing right and long story longer ESPN’s Germanly Fowler uh ESPN the world leader of bleed uh bleeder of readers, viewers, and subscribers talk about the bro show uh today on Sports Center, which Sports Center used to be the mecca, you know. Uh used to watch Sports Center all the damn time. But anyways, uh this is what uh Jeremy Fowler, ESPN said about Max Bromer. Max Bromer, a huge showcase for this guy. Uh the Vikings know that they have something in Max Bromer and they felt like he had a really good preseason. I talked to multiple teams who said he was cool and calm and collected in the preseason action he did get which again you could say well it’s preseason whatever did play against the Titans ones and also you know who didn’t look calm and collected in preseason Sam how Brett Ripenass uh he’s an undrafted free agent so the expectations aren’t overly high but I’m told just from a mental preparation standpoint he’s been really good and they feel like hey maybe something can happen here and it does seem like JJ McCarthy’s been in his own head last couple weeks and we’ve talked about and there’s a lot of things on his plate right now. you newborn first time starting quarterback some rough patches and it’s a lot to digest certainly is and brosmer coming in clean slate no expectations and I think that he could easily thrive in this spot and of course he tied in with Brock Pury and it was around 3 years to the day that Brock Purie made his debut week 12 of the 2022 season he was started for the 49ers the rest and the rest is history uh is one of the top 10 to 12 top 12 best quarterbacks in the league yeah there’s a lot of expectations to put on this guy. However, you know, there is some symmetry here. You have Kevin McConnell’s offense. They have they got weapons. Yes. Like they feel like at the at the least he’s going to be probably more mentally prepared than they’ve had this season with the struggles of JJ McCarthy. So, in terms of mental preparation, being mentally prepared, putting Brosmer in over McCarthy, like like we said, McCarthy’s had a lot on his plate. And also, it is important to note that McCarthy is only 22. Uh Max Brosmer is 24. He started more college football games than JJ McCarthy. And even though, you know, McCarthy is the stoic philosophy meditation guy, I feel like Bromer just in the way that he’s contorted himself in preeason and training camp and just hearing him talk to the media like the moment isn’t going to be too big. and Fowler, you know, obviously trying to draw some parallels between the Trey Lance. He was taken number three overall by the 49ers who they traded up heaven earth to go get him and Brock Pury, the last pick in the draft, uh Derb and I I mean it’s not not that not there, you know, especially you have a veteran wedge in there with Jimmy G and Carson Wentz who eventually got hurt and handed over the job. And yes, we we’ve made those parallels and jokes ourselves. Even even like back in training camp, you know, we talked about, you know, Brock Pury was the Mr. Irelevant and Bromer as a UDFA, but you know, their games in terms of getting the ball out quick and accurately pretty similar except for threw three picks against Carolina. So that sort of torpedoed that whole uh analogy this week and it’s obviously we’re keeping an open mind on things and we obviously love and support JJ McCarthy, but at the end of the day we just want the Vikings to have a good quarterback and it doesn’t matter if it’s McCarthy, if it’s bro, veteran quarterback TBD, rookie quarterback TBD, doesn’t matter. And you know, beyond the whole Trey Lance and Brock Purdy thing, there are parallels throughout history. Now, one of them is Kurt Cousins and RG3 cuz remember, uh, Washington trade up to number two in 2012 to go get RG3. And then in the fourth round, they turned around, drafted Kurt Cousins. And eventually RG3 got hurt. You know, Kurt Cousins probably a better fit for the Shanahan Gruden offense. And then eventually it was his job and then RG3 was in the win. And also sticking in DC back in the day, back in the day, you had Heath Scheler and Gus Farat. So Heath Schuler was this highly touted Heisman finalist out of Tennessee, number three overall pick. Uh looking like a golden boy. He actually became a congressman. I he just look at that jaw. Like he just looks like a quarterback from central casting, right? Also, let’s talk about Norv wearing the starter jacket. Let’s go. Let’s go, man. Uh but Gus Farat coming out of Tulsa, Golden Hurricane, Tulsa King, seventh round pick. and he schoo struggled and eventually Gus Farac got in and took Derb then he played for the Vikings twice. Yeah. So we’re very familiar with Gus and of course you know not a direct parallel because obviously you talk about Drew Bledsoe and uh Tom Brady but also I mean Trent Green Trent Green 99 Rams was supposed to be the leader there to his ACL. Then a UDFA uh Northern Iowa. Also, uh former H High-Ve employee Curt Warner just comes in with his quick release and learning how to play fast in the Arena League. All of a sudden, he comes in and looks pretty damn good and leads the the the Rams to a Super Bowl. Obviously, you know, we’re not putting those expectations on Bromer in his first career start, right? That’s ridiculous. But as we laid out earlier in the day, all he has to do is do what he do, right? He doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel. And as they point out several times, like the Vikings still have a ton of talent around, right? Darasel looks like he’s going to be going. You got Brandon for Jackson, but Jefferson, Addison, Naylor, Hawinson, Oliver, Jones, Mason, like all of the elements are there. And yes, the Seahawks are tough. They have a good defense. you’re on the road, but all of the talent has been there all season now. Now, the offensive line certainly had issues early on, but you know, they’re getting healthy. They’re starting Crescendo in the middle of the season, and they still they still can’t put those crooked numbers up on the board. So, that that’s all that Bro Show has to do. And as we said, for the betterment of the team, again, I love and respect JJ McCarthy, love and respect Max Bromer, but for the betterment of the team, if bro show comes out and looks impressive, so much so that Kevin McConnell has a decision to make on who is going to be starting next Sunday against the commies. That’s the best situation for the football team. All right. And also leading into 2026, no one should be guaranteed a job. It should be pure competition, competition, competition. That’s what it comes down to. Anyways, your thoughts, our thoughts. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Vikings feel like they have something with the bro show. Hopefully, he’s right. Hope the Vikings are right. It seems to track so far, but of course, we’ll see on on the football field. Anyways, let us know your thoughts comment section. You guys, the best you have to do. Skull production value.

  1. We forget that, at minimum, JJ's hope was "average" QB play with a Super Bowl-caliber roster. Just be functional, and we can easily contend; JJ has not been anywhere near that, yet we still have won games. So if Max plays middle of the pack (not a given, but doesn't need to be a world beater), we can develop him and may actually have something long-term.

  2. This most delusional fan base in the NFL. They think an undrafted free agent QB will be significantly better than a QB who’s started only 6 NFL career games. sam darnold can’t beat good teams. So please save that BS argument.

  3. I strongly disagree. I do not believe the Vikings are turning the page on their 10th overall pick from last year's draft after 6 games or anytime soon.

  4. Man, I watch your show every single day. Please don’t hype up Brosmer just because jj didn’t pan out! Season is over. Vikes need to figure out QB1 next year and it isn’t JJ

  5. Life long Seahawk fan but lived in Minneapolis for 2 years, so the Vikings are a team I root for when they are not playing Seattle. Don't get how people think this is going to be an easy win for the Hawks, as we all know that any team can win on any given Sunday. I'll be rooting for Max and the Vikings going forward, but not today. Go Hawks.

  6. If they thought they had anything why is it they waited so long to utilize him?? Makes ZERO sense. Nothing against McCarthy but I knew he wasn't NFL ready and I feel they "rushed" him into the spotlight WAY TOO soon……To be honest, I was calling for Brosmer to be at least to be the number #2 BEFORE the season even started. I predicted that Wentz was going to be a disappointment and was against his signing from the beginning. Perhaps I should be on the Vikings staff?? If the Vikings would have been "honest" to begin with they SHOULD have kept Darnold or Daniels or even Cousins to slowly bring McCarthy along. Look at Green Bay with Love and Rodgers, they both sat for years before starting. Very few QB's have succeeded without sitting.

  7. No nfl team in their right mind ever acknowledges that messed up on a qb after a few starts no matter how bad the qb is. Even 49rs with Purdy, it took 2 injured qbs for Purdy to start. And it even took longer to fully buy in that they found a franchise QB.

  8. Max literally is being thrown into the lion’s den v a good Seahawks team. We will know real quick if he’s got something. Go Max!

  9. They potentially wasted the season by bringing in Wentz and stabbing Brosmer in the back. NOBODY was sitting around during the offseason (nor at the point when they named Brosmer QB2) wishing we had Carson Wentz. KOC's decision making has been a mess this year. I hate this, but McCarthy might just be another in a long line of round one QB busts. Let's not make the entire team suffer any futher. Hopefully Brosmer balls out and takes over the QB1 role the rest of the year. Let's truly find out what we have in him.
