Giannis Antetokounmpo believes he will become the NBA All-Time leading scorer in the next 4-5 years: “I think when I’m going to be 35 years old and sitting in this chair, we are going to have a discussion how I am the top list of all time in scoring.”

  1. It’s not possible for him to beat it in only 5 years from now lol. Bron will probably still be playing anyway

  2. Fun fact: Giannis would need to double his total points scored and still not be enough to surpass LeBron, even if he retires today

  3. Only needs to average 56 points a game while not missing any games over that time period to pull it off…. If LeBron retires immediately .

    Reasonable.

  4. I believe in you Giannis, don’t listen to the haters who bring up words like MATH and DELUSIONAL.

  5. At present he has 21,002 points

Assuming he plays all 61 to end this season

And then let’s give him the full 5 years rather than four – so 471 games in total

    He’d need to average 45.1ppg

  6. I think he’s saying he’ll be on the list, not at the top of the list.

Also – didn’t even mention Kareem or Karl Malone.

  7. I feel like what he’s trying to say is in 5 years from now they’re going to be asking him if he’s going to break the scoring title.

If played 65 games 5x and hits 30ppg each time, w/o showing any sign of immediate slowdown, people would at least talk about the possibility.

  8. Assuming this is a lost in translation thing, if he keeps his pace he’s definitely his estimation of years away from being top 10 all time.

  9. Putting the math aside I think the important takeaway here is that he wants to do it, so it’s possible Giannis might be enough of a basketball maniac to have late career longevity like LeBron and rebuild his entire game to ensure he remains elite as a volume scorer deep into his 30s. That would be completely insane to see and I would personally love it as a fan of the game.

  10. I think we can probably safely assume Giannis didn’t mean number one overall, since mathematically that’s more or less impossible. It’s more likely he meant something like I will be in the top 10 or top 15, which at his current rate is actually totally achievable in 5 years.

Folks should remember that English is not his first language

  11. I could see Giannis finishing his career with around 32,000 points. Kinda just depends on how his body handles the late 30s

  12. He said top *list*, not number one—meaning top 50, top 15, etc. Comprehension saves lives. And we already know English isn’t his first language.

  13. He won’t get number 1 or 2 of course but top 5 is actually pretty doable for him. 33k is top 5 and that means 29ppg the next 5 years. If he plays til he’s 38/39 then that ppg number moves way down.

  14. The context of their discussion was points with a single franchise. Isn’t he referring to *that* record, not the overall scoring record?

  15. “….but 4-5 yrs is a long way away, might have more kids, wife might leave me…” 🤣🤣🤣🤣. The actual interview is hilarious

  16. Key word is “list” he’ll be on the list of all time scoring and he wouldn’t be wrong.

  17. He is supposed to believe in that. These guys always need more motivation to be great. With that being said, it’s not gonna happen.

  18. Yes, he’s currently…42nd all-time and over 21,000 pts behind LeBron wait what the fuck is he talking about?

  19. Uh at current career averages in five years he’ll be short nearly 6-7000 points or so. that if he plays 82 each year.
