NFL Countdown | Cowboys will make playoff with this offense – Rex Ryan on Dak & Pickens cooks Chiefs

game we had in Dallas, the Chiefs and the Cowboys. Maybe the most watched game ever. Let’s take a look. Dak Prescott got picked off almost immediately and down come the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes, Rasheed Rice, Alex, they look good early. They did. Got started. Rasheed Rice obviously a big game in this one. Uh you saw right there run after catch. But then Dak gets heated up a little bit and Randy CD Lamb coming off the tough week. Really bounced back, man. You talking about a tough week, drops everywhere, but he came back for his hometown team, baby. And we going the other way. This is a fourth down play and a touchdown to Travis Kelce. The Chiefs a 14-7 lead. The Stars were all out. And then there were the players you didn’t expect. Malik Davis who 43 yds. Teddy. Look at that. Right down the middle too. The Kansas City defense just opened up like the Red Sea. Terrible defensive line. Chris Jones out of his gap. Fourth quarter. Chiefs down six. Fourth and goal. Rex Mahomes buying time and finding Rice. ridiculous I think you would say on this play here and I mean no quarterback in the league is going to make this throw other than Patrick Mahome Cowboys down one then Randy here’s the play everyone’s talking about man you talking about man this is why I’m in such an all this man showing his athletic ability but I’m wondering why why didn’t y’all two uh two of his players hold him up for the six I see you pickings though third and goal Cowboys look at the nifty play from Dak here finding Javvante Williams oh that’s just they go for the two and get it so they take a 28-21 lead. Again, great awareness by movement back there. And then now the other side, the Chiefs are down 10 late in the fourth quarter. Alex Mahomes, who else makes this play? Taught him. I taught him this, Green. He fall down to throw it 50 yardds back across the field. I mean, he’s the only guy in the world doing this. Magic on Thanksgiving. There he is. Look, a little limp in his step, but he’s got Hollywood Brown in the back of the end zone. So, it’s 3128. Still alive, but the Chiefs would never get the ball back again. And Cowboys got a couple of pass interference penalties that kept this drive going. And then George Pickkins to ice it on a short third down. That’s all she wrote. Cowboys win a thriller and afterwards the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. We can be whatever we want to be. Everything’s in front of us. All these wins, all they’ve done is just given us more and more confidence. Um and this brotherhood is is as strong and as tight as I’ve been around and and seen. Put ourselves in a tough position. doesn’t mean that we’ve got out of it just because of the two teams that we’ve beat. Next week’s just as important as this game was. They’re the same desperation that we are and they played better over four quarters than we did. Our celian is is playing in the Super Bowl. We got a lot all the the same guys. We’ve added players, but at the end of the day, you got to go out and do it on every single week, a weekend, week out basis, and we can beat anybody, but I mean, we’ve shown that we can lose to anybody. If we’re going to make the playoffs, we’re going to have to win win them all. And uh that’s got to be the mindset when we step into the building um when we get back. So, the Chiefs probably do have to win out to get in. Let’s talk about the Cowboys. They’ve won three straight. They’re back in the race, but they still have, according to our analytics, only a 19% chance to make the playoffs. 10% to win the division. The path to that division title is tough because of the Eagles schedule the rest of the way. But one way or another, it has made for a thrilling run and a thrilling Thursday. And Teddy, you said in our meeting yesterday, right now, maybe nobody playing better than the Cowboys. Based on what? Based on recency here. I mean, this victory, the victory last week. I mean, who’s playing better football right now than the Dallas Cowboys? I mean, I don’t I I I see you putting up their their playoff chances and they’re still low, but still in terms of right now, we’re in December. It’s what we always talk about, right? Who’s playing the best right now? Who’s surging at this point right now? And it’s the Dallas Cowboys. And I’m really looking at the Dallas Cowboys and it’s like I’m thinking this is a good team. Dak Prescott talking about the brotherhood. Mhm. Listen, you start forming that brotherhood when guys make plays that are like you and unsuspected unsuspectingly making plays like Malik Davis. All right, that play that he made right down the middle. This one right? Yes. Chris Jones swims. He gets out the way. But Malik Davis takes this back. You know what the next play is? It’s the kickoff. And you know who that is? That’s Malik Davis. I see you making a play on the kickoff team right now. Another little play right here. All right. Unsung hero pick. Fumbles the ball. There’s Turpin. Turpin, Davis, these type of players. Jerry’s brought in players on defense. I mean, I don’t want to say it’s too late on them, but this right now could be the best team in football playing right now based on the last two wins and what they’ve been doing. Look, I I got to give credit to Brian Shottenheimer, by the way. I told you so. All right, because there are a lot of questions about that hire, but what you didn’t know is that this man is a leader. He is a connector. All right? He connects his whole football team. And look, they went through through a horrendous tragedy when Marshon Neland committed suicide. That was and and and then they came back and played two games against the Super Bowl uh both of them, you know, and won both of those games, right? Like that’s what this guy is doing. What a what a job you talk about. Look at the team. Everybody gets involved, right? every single uh player because it’s not about me, I it’s about us. And and nobody talked about it better than Dak Prescott, right? How many times did he mention we? How many times did he mention us? Brotherhood, all of it. That team plays that way. All right. There is that connection in that locker room. And Brian Shottenheimimer, I mean, they’re not mentioning him for coach of the year. I don’t think there’s been a coach that’s actually done a better job than Brian Shottenheimimer, especially dealing with the tragedy and the circumstances he’s had to deal You know, you speaking about coach Shottenheimimer, one thing that I talked about CD’s absence and I said when CD Lamb came back, coach Shottenheimimer needed to do what? Anybody remember that? Yeah. Get both guys involved. Keep both those receivers involved. And I’m going to talk about the last six games for the Dallas Cowboys. What coach Shottenheimer has been able to do three games out of those six CD Lamb has led in receiving yards. And those other three, George Pickkins has led those uh in those receiving yards. So, you’re talking about one of the hottest team, if not the hottest team in all of football, is the Dallas Cowboys, led by a guy by the name of Dak Prescott. And there’s another name I’m I’mma say that boy, you showed up on Thursday, a Javian Clowny. You keep doing what you doing out there because what he’s doing out there, man, you are raising some eyebrows. I love what I see in Dallas. A couple things. I mean, Dallas is playing great. They got to show me they can take it on the road. I mean, this is a different team. It always has been at Jerry’s World. We’re going to see this next week. They go to Detroit. uh see if they can keep it rolling. But on the flip side of this, the Chiefs, it’s it’s major it’s major panic time. I mean, I thought Patrick said it brilliantly. Listen, they can beat anybody. They can lose to anybody as well. And they got to win out, right? They play the Texans uh this next week, the best defense in the NFL. Their margin of error is so small. And to me, the thing that sticks out is this defense, especially so many of those highlights were on third down. This defense cannot get off the field on third down. It used to be elite. Chris Jones obviously a game changer. They’re 28th in the NFL this year on third down. And since week eight, they’re dead last on third down as a defense, right? Offenses are converting 52% of the time. That’s crazy. You could always count on Spags coming up with a blitz, sending a DB a certain place there. I actually was watching that game like thinking to myself, stop sending them. Stop blitzing because Dak was just too good. The two receivers are too good. That’s one constant they always had. That failed on them. The other constant was Chris Jones. And I’m getting sort of tired of him just doing the quick swim, but we loved it before when it worked. But he swam right out of that gap and that’s 60 yard touchdown right there. That cost you a game. So the Chiefs, what worked before isn’t working for us. I want to talk about some chemistry real quick about why I’m so impressed by what I see coming out of Dallas. I said last week or two weeks ago about cover two man and what and what two man is the quarterback inside with two high safeties. One thing that I saw on Thursday that kept showing up was that slant route that Dak kept hitting his receivers. That’s a deadly route. One thing about it going forward, two man, I don’t care if it’s man up, y’all have to be able to stop those boys on the slant routes. Well, listen, you’re not going to give up 450 yards of offense and 120 yards of penalties. I mean, they had 10 penalties for over 100 yards and expect to win many ball games. They got to clean it up. And again, the margin of error is so small. They got the Texans, they got the Chargers, they got the Broncos still left on their schedule and got to run it. I just gave him love. All right, this Dallas Cowboy team, are you want championship love? Can you do it again and again and again? We’ll see. The Cowboys almost certainly would have to win out to get into the playoffs, starting with a tough road game at Detroit next Thursday. After that, it would figure the Cowboys have a real good shot to win all the rest of the game. So, that could decide it. Meanwhile, we talked a lot about the Browns today and their offensive side of the ball with Shador Sanders. On the defensive side, Miles Garrett is making history, guys. He has 14 sacks in the last five games. He has 18 at this point in the season on pace for 27. As you know, the record is 22 and a half shared by Michael Strahan and TJ Watt. And Garrett spent a moment a moment ago.

  1. Mahommes was sensational in that game and im a dallas fan. He did everything to win that game. Dak who I've been critical of said…NAH BRO… YOU AINT GETTING THIS ONE

  2. Alex smith?? What the fk did you do in you’re mediocre ass career your as good as an analyst as you were player!! I’m sure there is some back up punter out there that can do better than smith!!

  3. Alex Smith taking about do it in the road. First, one of the last 3 games was on the road and we blew them out! Ali don’t care if it was the Raiders! Second, when you beat the two teams that were just in the SN in 4 days, it don’t matter where you play them! Last, Detroit plays in a dome. It will be like home to us and I just don’t see them holding that offense down all game! 37-24 Dallas!

  4. Dallas currently sitting at 6-5-1, if Dallas wins out, that would put them at 11-5-1, that should be good enough to be a wild card in the NFC.

  5. In the past week, I've heard commentators talking about different teams saying "they have the best defense in the NFL. 4 teams in 1 week have the #1 defense in the NFL? Retarded analytics lmao. Can't trust a word these people are saying sometimes. But alas, Dallas is an elite team once again. I'd be surprised if we win out, just because that would mean winning 8 in a row. Very doable. But no matter WHAT way you look at it, next year we will be a top 2 team PERIOD.
