Cooper Flagg And Klay Thompson With HUGE Performances In Mavs Win Vs. Clippers | DLLS MAVS POSTGAME

Cooper flag is unbelievably good. We’re going to talk about that and a whole lot more on the DLSS Mavs postgame show. [Music] [Music] This is the DLSS Mavs Postgame show powered by Game Time and Michelob Ultra. Download the Game Time app, create an account, and use code DLLS for $20 off your first purchase. And Michelob Ultra, the official beer sponsor of the NBA. And as a matter of fact, Mark Stein, cracking one open already. I I think that was a really anticlimactic crack, but just let I It’s the mic’s fault. It’s not the beer’s fault. Welcome in to a very joyous DLLS sports lounge studio. My name is Bobby Carella. I am joined by Mark Stein. What’s up? How are you? This is not the Saturday night we expected. It is not. But it sure as hell beats what we experienced last night, doesn’t it? It started with a beyond belief bulletin from Clipperland that PJ Washington in the starting lineup had to be scratched from the starting lineup because as he was landing during a shot in pregame warm-ups, another ball rolled under his feet and he came away with a sprained ankle. if that ain’t a microcosm of the season. But from those painful beginnings, the Mavericks end up with a road win. They leave Clipperland with a clutch win. They get a 1-1 split in LA. And as the title card says, 35 for young number 32, the second youngest player in league history by a mere nine days to score 30 plus in an NBA game. Only LeBron James has done it younger. How about a little asterisk for that asterisk? Okay, I know it’s coming, but I’m going to let you say it. He’s the youngest ever with 35 in a game. We did it. We did it, Mark. Unbelievable game by Cooper Flag. Uh pretty special fourth quarter from Klay Thompson. That dude is known for having good quarters and tonight I think was right up there with some of his best. Tonight was one of those nights when Klay is shooting it before he catches it. You can see like you can you that’s not humanly possible, but you know what I’m trying to say. He knew he was getting the shots were going up the second that the first nancond that he could hoist. It was going up 23 in the second half. 17 in the fourth. Is that right? 17 in the fourth. 17 in the fourth. We also got Tanner in here producing. Tanner, hello. How are you? Great. That was awesome. Cooper flag. Tanner on the mic on a Saturday night. Yeah, I can even do this special. Oh, we got Tanner Cam. Oh yeah, you got to leave that off. First segment. Tanner cam. Very rare. This is Yeah, I can’t even can’t remember it ever happening. Hard framing. Very rare first segment. Tanner cam. Uh Ron Har Jr. will be joining us uh from an undisclosed remote location in the next segment. But man, Cooper flag Mark, how about this? 35 points, eight rebounds, two assists, no steals, and no blocks. So, he actually kind of mailed it in on defense. Just kidding. Uh 13 of 22 from the floor, nine of 11 from the free throw line. Ron and I talked about on the pregame show and a lot last night. We wanted to see Coupe come out against the Lakers last night really aggressive because the Lakers just don’t have anyone that can This is what everybody’s been wanting that just this is what we’ve been we’ve been praying five and 15 start. The math says the season is already gone in terms of making the playoffs. Maybe you can help us with where where two out of 77 teams in the last 20 years that have started five and 15 or worse have made the playoffs. Right. So, but tonight he was just looking for his shot from the get-go and just he was on the attack and I loved late when you know he starts to the left of the key, works his all the works himself all the way to the right side and just rose up for that little midi and just the way he was moving and carrying himself from point to point. He was so confident that that shot was going down and it was. He drained it. Nothing but net. Great bow on his offensive performance. Threw in a couple late free throws, 35 points. And for a night, I think we can suspend the tank talk. The tank talk is going to resolve itself on its own with this roster where the two point guards in favor are Ryan Nebard on a two-way deal, Brandon Williams who was on a two-way deal last season. Those are the two point guards right now. D’Angelo Russell again, ENP CDN, not illness, not very much very much C, very much D. Don’t do not forget those do not forget those two initials. Yeah. Uh, so the losses are going to take care of themselves. The upcoming schedule is not kind. So tonight was a desperation bowl. That’s like I’ve been using crisis bowl a lot because we’ve got these teams at the bottom of the west. You throw New Orleans in there. You throw Memphis in there. Who am I leaving out? There’s one more team I’m leaving out. Clippers, Mavs, Memphis. I meant to send it to you. I mean, the Jazz maybe. No, no, the J. No, cuz the J the Jazz are not Kings. Kings. We used Crisis Bowl in the pregame thumbnail. I’ve used Crisis Bowl twice to describe recent games against the Grizz and the Clippers. But this was this was a desperation bowl for the Clippers. I mean, like they remember the Clippers do not have their first round pick in 2026. It is going to the Thunder. It’s actually a brutal win by the Mavs for that reason. Yeah, it’s like Clippers need to win out for the good of the league. Like I thought especially when PJ goes down, no Anthony Davis, no Lively, no Gaffford now. No PJ. Naji Marshall has to move into the starting lineup. I thought the way the game started, all right, great. This is great. Cooper’s going to shoot relentlessly and Clippers are going to win a game they desperately need to win. But Cooper’s going to go for a big night and the Mavs, that’s probably good news for the Mavs. I think it’s been such a rough six weeks to start the season that they are they now got to go to Denver, but they there were a lot of happy faces on that bench. You could see it. It’s just man nights like this from Coupe. I mean, again, he’s 18. He’s a rookie. This was game what, 16 of his career, 17 of his career, something like that. He’s missed a few, but nights like tonight are the the kind that make you really think like anything is possible, you know? Uh being a fan is all about getting your hopes up and usually your expectations and hopes and dreams get crushed uh either by loss or by incompetence or things that are out of your control or whatever. Um, but whenever you got a guy that’s very young and very good and he has a night like he did tonight, it is totally okay to just get completely carried away and say, man, like what is he going to look like two months from now, two years from now, 10 years from now? Is there anything that he will not be able to do? Last night his shot wasn’t falling and he was kind of passive. He had 11 assists. Tonight he was being very aggressive. the Clippers did not have a lot of interest in stopping him. He went for 35 points. He did those in back-to-back nights. Back-to-back nights on a really banged up team with no reason to win uh and with not a lot of talent around him. He just went into Kawaii and James Harden’s house and had the best game of the three. I mean, those are two first Ballad Hall of Famers, two all-time great players. And Coupe was the best player on the floor tonight for most of the game. And that shot New Balance Showdown. Oh wow. Yeah. Cooper flag v Kawawaii Leonard. That’s a big one. Uh because you know uh there is a New Balance store in Dallas and it’s near some restaurants that I love to frequent. So I you see coupe there often? Well, that’s thing I for years was like, “Wow, Kawaii Kawaii is getting some pretty prominent placement in Dallas for some playoff memories that Mavs fans do not love.” Yeah. But yeah, all the signage has now been seated to number 32. It is his store. Tonight is his night. And there were a couple plays he made. I mean, you mentioned the the shot where he kind of went end to end and just walked right into a spot. And the way that he just rocked back and kicked the leg out. It reminded me of a guy that used to play here many, many, many years ago. You’re getting carried away now. I am. But like that’s your last statement was getting carried away. The anything is possible. Now you’re getting really carried away. It reminded me the way we let him get carried away. High release, high arcing shot, nothing but net. It was beautiful. He had a really, really nice behind the dribble, behind the back dribble to split a double team and he found uh Naji in the corner. He had another really nice pass on the right side of the floor where he was posting up. A double team came and he rose up over Kawaii and fired a pass to the weak side corner shooter. Like he is seeing the floor. He’s making stuff happen. Um Tanner’s got the flag captured shirt up on the screen. It is Black Friday right now, folks. I know it is soon to be Sunday, but our Black Friday sale runs all the way through the weekend right into Cyber Monday. Everything on our website is 30% off up to 90% off. you go to alldls.com, click the merch button right at the top of the page. It’ll take you to our locker. Again, everything is at least 30% off. Um, so go ahead and fill up your closet with all sorts of stuff. And we’re going to have more shirts coming out soon. I promise you, we will have shirts, maybe even some with ping pong balls. But tonight is not a night for ping pong balls. Tonight is about Coop. PJ Washington just tweeted Cooper flag. So, he’s that dude. He’s that dude. And it’s good news that PJ Washington is is in a tweeting mood. That is that is I’m going to take that as a good sign. Uh Mark, you’ve you’ve covered a lot of the greatest players of this gener in fact all of the greatest players of this generation, but you’ve covered several of them very closely. And you know, one that played in Dallas for a long time, Durk, you know, his rookie year did not really go that great. Uh Durk has often said that throughout his rookie year, he was thinking, man, I don’t know if the NBA is for me. But by, you know, really midway through his second year and especially into his third year, it was kind of understood like this guy’s going to be special. And it really felt like tonight is the kind of game. Again, I’m getting carried away, but it is what it is. It kind of felt like a kind of night where Coupe is realizing his powers. He’s starting to understand like what he can do. And also, I think you go out and play aggressive like that in a win. I think your teammates kind of figure that out, too. Like, do you do you see any of that or am I just getting really high off? I think you I think you’ve you’re you’re unrainable at this point. So I’m not even Okay. So when is he going to the Hall of Fame? So I’m not even going to try. But what I have really appreciated about him from minute one is that even in the very down moments like he’s just he gets hurt, you know, his shoulder gets messed up. He goes back, he says, “Fix me up and send me back out there.” He’s been wearing this strap thing on his thumb which you know and he just he just keeps playing. He just keeps playing. The shots not falling. Keeps playing. I mean one of the concerns, complaints, criticisms about his first six weeks as a pro has been back to backs. He hasn’t been good on the second night of backtobacks. And tonight he could not have answered that one any louder. I mean again just his approach. He got up five shots really early. Like he just he took the offense tonight by the scruff of the neck. And you know, some of the whispers I’ve heard is that even on bad nights, even after losses, like he’s showing some leadership behind the scenes already. So like all of this stuff again, you know, the Clippers probably are no team I think was misread more than the Clippers in the offseason. The Clippers were so praised for their moves and now they are just a mess. But one of the one of the foremost misreads of the season was all this Cooper flag is going to a team full of vets that’s going to win. It’s going to be so great for him. And it it has been so not great environment-wise because of the losing. Nico gets fired 11 games into his career. All this trade talk surrounding, you know, AD. just all this stuff has been thrown at him and and all this stuff has been happening and he just plays through. He just keeps playing just keeps playing. Just keeps playing and that’s that’s what I like the best. Obviously the skill, the size, you know, we’re going to be dissecting that for ages, but I just approach wise, he is now basically a fourth of the way through his first proseason. The way he’s handled these first 21 games and everything that’s been thrown at him to me is the most impressive thing. And that’s why You know, that’s why I think wins whenever you can get them are important. Obviously, the Mavs are going to lose a lot of games, okay? Uh they’re probably going to lose a lot more than any of us thought that they would, but it would have been gut-wrenching if they would have lost this game with the way he played. You know, it would it would have just sucked. Like, it’s good to see whenever he has a really good game, it’s good to get a win every now and then just to keep that motivation there. you what you don’t want to have happen is a dude comes into the league with the approach to be a great player and you lose so much where losing kind of it it stops stinging. It stops hurting. It stops sucking and it just kind of becomes like the norm. You get used to it. You get numb to it. Um that can’t happen with him, man. Because he’s got the fire, he’s got the juice. And you’re right, he’s got the approach. He’s got the mentality. And again, I I don’t know what two months looks like. I don’t know what two years from now looks like, but I cannot wait to get there. And I said on the pregame show, tonight is for the sickos. If you stayed up and watched that game, and if you’re in the chat with us right now, Yeah. See, there’s White Dove saying, “I thought carried away.” There’s White Dove 738 saying, “I thought we were tanking.” They are. Tanking is going to take care of itself. They They got the Joker on Monday. You got to win a couple. You got to win a couple to keep everybody locked in. Even the worst teams win 20. And that and and that’s another thing you have to say. These guys 16 clutch games out of 21. Like they’re in every game. They are despite the many, many, many, many roster issues and the very long injury list. All right. Coming up after this break, we’re going to be joined by Ron Har Jr. live from somewhere. He’s going to provide some analysis, maybe a little bit of intel, maybe some hot takes. Who knows? Not going to let people know where he’s coming from. No, it’s undisclosed. I’m not I’m not into doxing, Mark. I keep everyone’s I keep everyone’s uh location safe. Uh so don’t go anywhere. It’s the DLS maps postgame show. What kind of dreams did you have when you were a kid? What did you want to be when you grew up? For me, I wanted to be a basketball player, obviously. Uh and then I realized I’m not an athlete. So, uh I changed course pretty quickly. Uh, surprisingly, one of the reasons I wasn’t an athlete was cuz I was a big nerd and I was into playing cards, uh, like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, not anything cool. Uh, and I was more into that than I was into actually working out the way that Cooper Flag is. Uh, I have a pretty impressive card collection, Mark, and it sure would be nice to have someone help me in selling this stuff. Uh, Shopify is the e-commerce platform behind millions of businesses around the world and 10% of all e-commerce in the US. It even powers our DLS merch store. Again, it is Black Friday. It’s all dls.com and click the merch tab. Uh Shopify has got you covered with website creation, product descriptions, email, social media marketing, and more. Again, that’s shopify.com/allcity. Also, prize picks. Hey, uh, being right can get you paid tonight. Cooper Flag did a lot of things. One thing he didn’t do was get a steal. Pretty disappointing. But you know what? He scored 35. So I I forget. Why is it disappointing? Uh, well, cuz I had him. I know. I want you to I want you to I know why, but the audience banter the audience does not know why. Yeah, cuz I I had Cooper Flag getting more than 0.5 steals. Okay. Uh, he didn’t. So, I’m taking home a big fat L tonight on prize picks, but that’s okay. I’m going to bounce back tomorrow. prize picks. You choose between two and six players whether they will record more or less than their projected stat line. Tonight, Coop let me down, but he’s made me quite a bit of cash this season on prize picks. If you want to play along, download the app today and use code DLLS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Again, that is code DLLS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks, it’s good to be right. It is the DLLS maps postgame show. We are officially into deep night DLLS. It is 12:03. Happy Sunday, folks. It’s DLLS after dark where we can say whatever we want as long as it is within FCC guidelines. Uh Bobby Krell, Mark Stein, producer Tanner, and uh do we have someone on the line? Oh my gosh, it’s Ron Har Jr. Mavs beat writer. Ron Harrod Jr. Uh parts unknown. That’s right. We’re not telling anyone where you are. Parts unknown. And uh Bobby said we can say anything long as in the within FCC guidelines. So if I don’t do I get fined. Um you would get yelled at for sure by you are getting fined when you get back because now you arrive safe and sound where you went. But last night everybody I’m just going to take you a little inside baseball. Uh oh. When when Ron Rod Jr. told me about his Saturday travel itinerary and the driving that would be done on what the old man just would deem insufficient sleep. I was not happy with his I was not happy with this plan. I’m really glad to see him on our screens right now. Safe. I appreciate that. Uh Ron, we saw something pretty special from Coupe tonight. Uh Mark and I just talked about it for the entire first segment, but I would like to give you the opportunity to share your thoughts on what we just witnessed. Uh, I mean, first let’s just start with wow. I mean, we we me and Bobby in the pregame show were like, hey, somebody like has to score third. We thought that would be PJ, everybody. Then, of course, PJ Washington steps on a basketball, has a right ankle sprain, which we at least I don’t have a timet for at this point. and then someone has to step up and that person is the 18-year-old, the rookie who scores 35 points, grabs eight boards, uh has over 20 points in the first half while all the other Mavericks are struggling in the first half. He keeps this team afloat and then the second half then Klay Thompson erupts in the fourth quarter, you know, to kind of close the deal. But even even in the fourth quarter, Cooper Flag was clutched from the free throw line. I mean, just an incredible game from a from an 18-year-old. And we have two articles on all dls.com talking about Klay Thompson’s big day and Cooper Flag’s big day. One is free, everybody, by the way. One is free. Which one is free? The instant reactions. Oh, okay. And then to read the other one, you got to become a diehard. I’ll tell you how to do that here in a little bit. Um, you do, Ron. We I mean, more Cooper talk. Let’s be honest. That’s what the people want. That’s what I want to do. Um, I mean, we talked on the pregame show, not only did we need to see someone on the Mavs be aggressive, but also, man, we have needed Coupe to have a good night on the second night of backto-back. Mark talked about it a little bit in the last segment, 34% from the field, 27% from three on second nights of backto-backs this season. Um, and then he comes out and does this against a team, in my opinion, with a better defense, at least personnel-wise, than the Lakers. Um, so I guess what’s the next thing that he cannot do? Yeah, I mean, look, John Collins couldn’t hold him. Kawhi Liner couldn’t hold him. James Harden couldn’t hold him. Chris Dunn couldn’t hold him. Zuba couldn’t hold him. They had no one with with answers for Cooper Flag tonight. I mean, I there’s a lot of big name on this Clippers team. They all looked like they couldn’t stay in front of the young legs that, you know, is from Dallas, Texas now. They couldn’t stay in front of Cooper Flag tonight. I mean, the Mavs shot 10 of 36 in the first half outside of Cooper Flag. Like, literally, he put the team on his back. Without Cooper Flag erupting in the first half, this is a blowout. 10 of 36 from all other Mavericks in the first half. Like, Flag alone the team to even being a, you know, a competent offense in the first half of the game. Then of course Naji Marshall and Brandon Williams and he had other teammates kind of support him, but what he was able to do throughout the full game, but especially in the first half shows the special talent that he had. And like Bobby was was talking about, he didn’t even shoot the the three ball tonight and he still got 35 points on on an efficient scale. When the three ball starts to drop everybody, it’s going to be scary hours for the rest of the NBA. I like uh Sarah’s question in the chat and Ron, you’re much wittier than either uh Stein or myself. No offense, Mark. Um Sarah says, “Can we please glaze Dwight Pal a little?” Uh the thought I thought that was First of all, I thought we weren’t allowed to say that word on the show. DLS after say whatever we want. Second of all, I thought we were doing that like in the third segment. We are, but I want to get Ron’s take on this. Sarah proposes a nickname, the Great Canadian Thief. So, kind of like Great Barrier uh Thief but only Great. I think that one’s pretty good. That’s pretty good. Nine out of 10. Shout out Sarah. I mean, Dwight Pal, I mean, I think we tweeted from the DLS Mavs page. Maybe it was me. Maybe it was somebody else. Find out in the next episode Dragon Ball Z. Yeah. Yeah. But I mean, Dwight Paul, he he had six steals in the game. Did he Yeah, he finished with six steals in the game. I mean, for a big that’s pretty wild, everybody. I mean that I mean Dwight Pow’s active. Dwight Pow when his name is called always just does these like cool crazy feats. His name was called tonight with the Mavs out really for bigs with PJ Washington out. He needed to play heavy minutes tonight and he delivered everybody. Dwight Pal a fan favorite for a reason. He just keeps doing it over and over and over again. So Maz fans, you should feel lucky to be watching Dwight Pal at 34 years old get six steals in the game. Sarah’s second effort is better. We do have an update from Sarah. The Maple Thief, like Maple Leaf, that is good. That is a good one. The Maple Thief is cool. That is a good one. Um, it being in all caps, does that mean she’s yelling it at us or is it I think it just or is it just like looking better if you Yeah, this is like it’s like a revelatory like by Great Scott. I got it. Trade pal. I mean, Nazi Marshall, Dwight Pal. and Klay Thompson all had huge nights. I mean, the Mavs didn’t just lose PJ. I mean, Max Christie shot one for nine. I mean, you would not have thought, you would not have thought a win was possible, losing PJ before the opening tip, and Max Christie, who’s been the one reliable shooter all season, one for nine, one for eight from deep. They still found a way. Ron, I would say that tonight was less I mean, it was certainly less productive for Ryan Nhard. And I would also say maybe a little less steady. It’s tough to be uh it’s tough to do too much whenever you got Zubots’s big body in the lane. You got Kawhai lurking. You got to kind of look around all the time. But Nimhard did hit a couple shots. Um I see uh this is Cedric in the chat say we look so much better with the PG. I have to agree, man. Like Ryan Nhard was really really good again tonight. And shout out Brandon from three who’s an LA kid. So this is a homecoming game. Obviously last night was as well. Um he’s he he played his high school ball in LA, so I’m sure he uh yeah, he he was he had a solid night as well, even though the three also eluded him. Once again, Baron is I mean, is Nimhard like if if I’m waving the magic wand and you’re the coach now, it’s Monday night in Denver. Who’s starting at point guard? I’m be honest, I I really enjoy Brighton Williams off the bench. I think he plays way more free. the responsibilities of having to make other players better don’t really sit on him as much off the bench. And even with not having to do that, Brandon Williams had seven assists tonight with one turnover. Like I think Brandon Williams just plays a lot better off the bench. And he can still quote unquote out minute Ryan Nimhard if Nimhard does start. Nimhard also by the way may two or five from the three-point line which we talked about as a key to his NBA success. We know he’s going to pass the ball well. If he has to be guarded from three, he legit becomes a real rotational NBA player. So, I I would start Ryan MR and I would bring Brenon Williams off the bench. And D’Angelo Russell is, you know, grasping for air at this point. I tweeted that, you know, this second game in a row where he’s, you know, getting DMPS now. He came to this team with a player option and now look like he’s falling out of his kids rotation. This question is kind of for the table. What’s the What’s the problem with the Clippers? Why are they so bad? Like that team is really disappointed. We’ve seen them twice now. Well, step one when I talked about in the in the first segment about the misreads. It’s like they let Norm Powell go and they use the resulting flexibility to bring in John Collins, Chris Paul, who we often talked about, man, are the Mavs going to be able to get into the Chris Paul sweep st? He did nothing tonight. Bradley Beal, Brook Lopez, and like John Collins is the only one out of that. I mean, Bradley Beal’s already lost for the season. John Collins is the only one who’s playable out of that group. Kawhai’s obviously missed a bunch of time. I mean, James Harden’s done as much as you can do at his his age. I mean, he’s been turning back the clock with some of his offensive stuff. I got to read this tweet. um Justin Russo who covers the Clippers. Just to give you the vibe of what like it’s not just Mavs fans and the DLS audience that feels like it’s been going through it. This this quote is or this tweet is this tweet is pretty wild. Of course, it’s going to take me a second just to find it, but I uh I will find it. Someone wants to talk for 10 seconds to give me a Ron. Why Why did the Clippers suck so much? I think it’s We talked about the defense being so poor. I think this is a team that was supposed to have a defensive identity and they do not. I mean, Cooper Flag had an amazing game. He had a career night on this squad at 18 years old. And I’m not saying just because they’re a bad defense, but it definitely helps. You’re playing the 28th, you know, defensive rated team in the NBA. I mean, just to give you So, this is Justin Russo who covers the Clippers. Final Mavericks 114, Clippers 110. If last night was the new low and who did they play last night? I already forgot. Uh the lo the Jazz maybe. Oh. Oh, the Grizzlies. Yeah. Oh, it was a fall. That’s right. They had a huge lead on the Grizzlies. Oh my god. They lost a home back to back against the Grizzlies. Oh my goodness. Fourth loss in the road. Final Mavericks 114, Clippers 110. If last night was the new low, tonight is the bottomless pit. Clippers are five and 15. They had been 3-2. There are no more ways to say how terrible this basketball team has been. A complete and total abject disaster through the first 38 days. Man, that’s bleak. But you want to know what Kevin This might be Kevin Gay’s burner. Want to know what I have to say to that? No one cares. No one cares. Go take it up at the wall, man. Go plant some trees. Go cheat. Go do whatever you got to do. Maybe you’ll be better next year. Oh, no you won’t. cuz your pick goes to OKC. Hope you enjoyed Paul George while he lasted. Your crowning achievement was beating the Mavs without KP in the bubble. All right. I just had to be a hater. Uh Ron, any uh any any final thoughts before we get you out of here? Again, Maz fans, all that they can ask for in these type of games is, hey, man, we’re down a bunch of guys. Can we just get effort? Can we just play hard? And I think the Mavs play hard all game and especially in the second half. If you’re a Maz fan, you should go to sleep proud that this team that was down so many players beat a team that frankly had way more big names on the court than you did and you win the game and you win a lot with not only big play from your oldest player in your squad. You with also from your youngest player on the squad. I think it was overall a good team win. Ron Har Jr., before we let you go, promise me you’re driving home at a civil hour this time. Promise me. Yes. Yes. I’m I’m a professional worrier. So, just just make sure you send us updates. Yeah. Stein is but don’t do it while driving. Stein is the pod father for sure. Just like text me when you get home. I got you. I got you. Have a good night, Ron. Make sure you’ll go read his postgame right after the show is over. Um, okay. Coming up next, we’re going to talk about Clay. We’re going to talk about Dwight Pal. I got some trivia for uh for Mark Stein and for you all. I have to do a read soon, don’t I? You do like I’m the I’m transitioning to the break right now and then you’re going to have to do the read. Are you prepared? Pray for me audience. All right. Coming up, a Mark Stein ad read. Don’t go anywhere [Music] right now. Yep. Right now. I didn’t know I was first. It’s game time. Oh man, my phone is blocked. What time is it? Game time, guys. the best seats I have ever had for a hockey game in a lifetime of watching hockey, they were acquired via the Game Time app. And whenever I think of going to a hockey game again, like that’s what I’m thinking. Cooper flag in the past 48 hours, youngest ever to record a 35point game and youngest ever to record a 10 assists game. So, you know, how about that? Not too bad. Is he good or is he a bust? I knew I was doing a read before the third segment, but I thought it was the second read. Oh. Oh, no. I’m I’m taking heat about fumbling. Stein fumbled to read. Game time is going to revoke those tickets. I think I rallied though. No, you did. That was a great read. That was a great read. Uh 114 110 final. The Mavs win. Uh we got some super chats. Uh we have a we got we got a super chat. Just the crispy cream Dwight Powell segment. Oh, this is a great point. No negativity. November. Lil Nisso $1.99. What a way to end no negativity November. Go Mavs. That’s right. Not a single ounce of negativity coming from me especially or anyone else on this show for the entire month. Unbelievable. For the for an entire hour. How many shows were in November? Uh a lot. There were Yeah, 25. I don’t know. Do that. 22 23 something like that. I don’t know. Uh again, it is Black Friday. If you want to get that shirt or any others, go to our website, alldls.com. Hit that merch button right at the top of the page and you can shop our collection. Um, all right, Dwight Pal. Oh, we got some uh Tio just bless the bless the community, dude. Tio just gifted 10 memberships. Thank you so much, Tio, for doing that. Tio is a freaking legend in the chat. Everyone that just got gifted a membership, drop a Mavello in honor of sports guy Tio for blessing you with the membership. I need to see a Mavello emoji right now in the chat. Um, all right. Let Do you want to do trivia or Clay first? You decide. You’re you’re you’re uh All right. We’re doing some trivia stuff because Dwight Pal means a lot to me. All right. We’ll get to Clay. So, you want to say that for fourth segment? No, no, no. We’ll get We’ll get to Clay. We’ll get to Clay. Um, Dwight Pal has been around for a really long time. I’ve often said this. He is the most unfairly maligned player in Mavs franchise history. Maybe I I’m not into, you know, I’ll get carried away about Coupe, but I really mean this as far as like impact on the floor, off the floor, locker room guy, character guy based on what he’s paid, whatever. One of the most unfairly maligned athletes I think in all of Dallas sports history. Like great dude, pretty solid player. Um, tonight though, he had a great night. What was your reaction when you I mean, you saw all the bigs were out. I think people were expecting Cece to get the start. Were you? I was fired up for Cece. Honestly, I was fired up for Cece. I’ve been trying to sneak looks at the postgame quotes. I have not found much yet just because there’s too many screens to like I’m assuming, and again, I don’t I do not know this for for a fact. I have not spoken to anyone yet in Clipperland that it was a move to, you know, help Cece not get in quick foul trouble. Yeah. Since that is something that does happen whenever he’s on the floor. But hey man, Dwight Powell, he played great. He was so solid that couldn’t get him off the floor tonight. Yeah, he play I would have loved to see 30 Musi minutes. I’m not going to lie. But Dwight was awesome. But you’d rather see you’d rather see 34 Dwight Pal minutes and he earned every single one, man. He’s just a good player. So tonight he had six steals, uh, which is the most in a game by a center in Mavs franchise history. Now, to go with his recent career-high 10 free throw outburst, that’s right. Uh, here’s where we get to the trivia part. All right, so everyone bust out your history books, your encyclopedias, don’t cheat. Um, six centers in Mav’s history, Tanner Cam, activate. Six centers in Mav’s history have recorded five steals in a game. Okay, I will give you one and a half hints. Dirk Nitzky has never been counted as a center. Okay. Even if he was playing small ball five, he’s just always and Dwight Powell is not one of them. James Donaldson. No. Who is it? It’s who has that many steals. Yeah. Centers with Curtain. Five steals in the game. No. Chad, feel free to play along, too. Uh Sean, some of them are Shawn Bradley is one. Good job. Tyson. Tyson never did it. Oh, Eric Dampier got five steals in a game. Eric Dampier never did it. I was going to say I didn’t see that. I did not see that happening. Oh, and you said no Tyson. No Tyson. Only Bradley. That’s all we have. Yep. How many more? Five. Sam, someone in chat just got it. Luke, good job, Luke. A center, was he? Or is he? He was a center. He was listed as a center. Yeah, he Well, he’s like a C CPS. Okay, then he he certainly had five in a game. Roy Tarpley did it. Probably not. Jell McGee, I’m guessing. Bernard James, that’s a good guess, but no, he had five blocks in the game, but no, he did not. Uh, he did not do it. Jop. Someone gets dropped. I doubt Sagana drop did. Wow. Is that Toji? Ghana buckets. Sagana drop. Doubt them. Martin the polar bear. Zaza Pachulia. Zaza did it. That is a great shout. So we’re up to four now. Uh DJ Banga, DeAndre Jordan, Brennan Wright. Those guys did not. We need two more. One played in the ‘9s. We got one played in the ‘9s and one played uh in the teens. Sean Rooks. Shawn Rooks did it. Great call. So, okay. So, we got Shawn Rooks. So, a center that played in the teens. It is not solid measury. That’s a great guess. Or KP. A center that played in the teens. Chris Cayman. No, that’s a good guess, but no. Chris Cayman didn’t steal the ball. He just stole money from the mass. Just kidding. Just kidding. He had he had to find Andrew Boat. No, that’s a good guess, but he did not do it. He did not do it. A center known for quick hands on defense. All right. Feel like this is a pretty tough one. I’m just going to go uh I’m going to go have a snack. I’m gonna go grab a hot dog real quick and I’ll come right. Sammy Don Bear. Is that guess right? No. That is a good guess, but no. Uh did Jonathan Mly did not do it. Oh my gosh. What’s his name? Did he play for the Spurs at one point? No. Oh, it’s not thinking of I I just dropped a massive hint. I’m sure Chad is going to say it here in a second. I didn’t hear What was the hint? Well, I said I’m going to go get a snack. I’m gonna go grab a hot dog real quick and come back. Hot dog. I don’t remember. Nerland’s Noel, Vinnie Pooh with it. Let’s go. Okay. So, what were the five? Cuz I felt like we named six. Nerland’s Noel, Zaza, Pachulia, Sagana, Drop, Shawn Bradley, Sean Rooks, Roy Tarpley. Six had five. Only one had six. That is number seven, Dwight Pal. Um Devin Harris dropped the line on the on the broadcast. The last Mav with six steals in a game was Devin Harris. He knew that. Uh, well, I’m sure he I mean, maybe Devin has a Stad membership, but he might have got a hint from Dave Keaney on the broadcast. Two other Mavs in 2015 had six steals in a game. Can you name them? Say it again, please. Two other Mavs than Devin Harris, also had a six- steal game in 2015. Monte did uh in 2015. In 2015, Barnes. No, he was in 2016. Chandler Parsons. No. Oh, he was he gone by then? He was on the team. Okay. I will give you a hint. He played one season in Dallas and also uh wore the same number that Dwight Pal wears now. Rondo. Nope. Seven. Who? Never mind. Who wore seven? Number seven on the 20145 Mavs roster. Chat will catch up in about 10 seconds. Someone said Yogi, not Adrien Griffin. No, Adrien Griffin. Long gone by then. Or seven. Couple Yogi Feral guesses. He was on the team in 2017. 2017 and 2018. Can’t even picture number seven. Number seven. Our king, Alfaroo Amu. There you go. All right. All right, so that’s a little trivia Tuesday on a Saturday night. He only did one season, man. Yeah, only one season with the Mavs. So, it’s He was good that season. I I do not I do not remember him wearing number seven. He was so good. So, he was on a minimum. He was very good as a Mav. First Mav with six steals in a game in 10 years. Shout out Dwight Pal. Um Klay Thompson. Mark, we got three minutes left in this segment. We can carry it over to the fourth, too, if you want. But Clay, 23 points tonight. By the way, Arera has tweeted Dwight Pal the Maple Thief and it’s been retweeted and Oh, yeah. She’s left us to try to get try try to get Twitter famous on us. Oh no. Sarah, just remember where this nickname originated right here in chat with us. The DLS chat wasn’t enough. Now we did nothing to help you with that. That was all you. But um Clay with 23 points tonight. 17 came in the fourth quarter. Uh I I was thinking, man, that’s a lot for a backup to have in the fourth quarter. Jaden Hardy had 17 in the fourth quarter a couple weeks ago against Minnesota. But, uh, Clay was unbelievable, man. And, and he’s been playing well. Um, he’s been playing well really tonight. There was a doubt that he was even going to play. He he he was a late promotion to available and, you know, obviously, you know, he was horrible the first five, 10 games of the year, but since then, he’s been redot. And like I said, tonight was one of those nights that just as a longtime Clay watcher that I love. Like when like he is he is just already getting his shooting motion started when the ball is on the way to him. It’s going up. There might be a dribble. There probably won’t be a dribble. He is just give him an ounce of space and he’s hoisting and he was draining him. I mean he was just he was in the zone. That was that was that was a very clay like zone that the likes of which only he enters. He made one I think it was the first one he made in the fourth quarter. Late shot clock kind of a frantic situation. He’s sort of top of the key right wing whatever moving away from the basket. Gets thrown a grenade like two seconds left in the shot clock and just flings it up and it is nothing but net from like 29 ft. next time down the floor or next time he touched it was basically the same shot only he was a little more under control. Um dude whenever whenever he shoots a ball that goes in like you can tell when it comes off his hands if it has a chance. He’s had some really ugly misses this season. Um but dude when he has it going like he is one of the it is he has one of the prettiest jump shots I’ve ever seen in my life. And I see there’s a chat our team’s calling for Clay yet. I would not go to those lengths yet. I mean, that contract is going to be difficult to move. I believe he’s got a unless it’s unless it’s part of a larger deal, but um yeah, you know, he has said I mean he’s trying to be a leader here and I think he’s doing that. I mean, again, this has been a start filled with adversity, and I think he’s also been one of the guys who’s really tried to stand up and face it the best you can because it’s it’s not been fun. You know, Coup’s just getting started. Clay won four championships in the span of what, eight years. Came here thinking he’s going to be he came here really, he came here to play with Luke. I mean, Clay, that was the number one lure for him to, you know, in leaving Golden State to come to Dallas. And, you know, he’s another guy who there’s been just curveball after curveball thrown at him. You know, he’s the one who organized the players only get together before training camp and from camp, you know, he’s tried to he’s tried to be a good a good vet, which has not been easy in these circumstances. Yeah. Not at all. Not at all. But man, whenever he’s got it going like he did tonight, even at a million years old or whatever he is, he is still one of the most exciting players to watch in all the NBA. And um it’s pretty cool that he and Coupe combined for what, 58 points tonight. And in the second half, Klay scored all 23 of his points. How about that? After halftime. Um all right, coming up after the break, what incarnation happened to PJ Washington? Uh, and then, uh, I don’t know. Maybe we’ll just vibe. I don’t know. Who knows? Who knows what’s going to happen. That’s why you got to stick around to find out on the DLS Mavs postgame show. But first, I mentioned earlier it’s Black Friday. We got a sale on our website, alldls.com. So, uh, thank you to each and every one of you that have already subscribed and hope you consider it if you haven’t already. All right, it is the last segment. It’s the final countdown and I 12:30 in the morning struck out on trying to find postgame Mavericks quotes. However, I do have a postgame James Harden quote. Oh, yeah. If I can find it. Um, I can say you you have to go find this yourself on Twitter cuz there’s a new James Harden eye roll that’s like it’s up there with the James Harden eye roll meme. Like he really uh he is very expressive in this postgame interview. James Harden was asked after this home loss to the Mavericks, can the Clippers season be salvaged? What other what other choice we got? Like I said before, no that this tweet doesn’t even capture it all. I can’t just trust me. Oh, no. If if you got to check it out. I can’t do it justice. Well, I got to say, you know, the Mavs for a few years there were the team that they were like they were like the grim reaper. He did say situation here is difficult. Oh man. I mean, he’s not lying. He’s not lying. That is a difficult situation. No draft picks, no future. Um, the Mavs were the team that was like, “You’re going to blow up your franchise if you lose to us.” It happened to the Jazz. Uh, it happened to the Suns. Um, it happened to the kind of sort of to the Clippers. I mean, Paul George left after that series. Um, Mazd have taken down many a team and it’s nice to it’s nice to be the team that when we talk about these teams at the bottom of the west like the Clippers, their pick is going to OKC to finally finish paying off the SGA Paul George trade. And then the Pelicans, as we’ve talked about a lot since they’ve played the Mavs already a couple times, the Pelicans gave Indiana back its first in this coming draft and traded its own first to Atlanta for Derek. They could have had two picks in the top five of the best draft of our like of the last 10 years. they gave up two really good chances to actually win the 2026 lottery just for the rights to draft Derek Queen. So like for those two teams, it’s especially dire because they’re going to feel immediate pain in this draft, barring some, you know, very fortuitous lottery luck where those picks don’t end up as bad as it seems like they’re going to. You know, the Mavs, they do have Cooper flag. They won the lottery in May. And the reason there are so many people in our chat saying tank, tank, tank, tank. We got to stick with the tank because still 361 sickos in here. Shout out to each and every one of you for sticking up. Staying up with us so late. This is the last rep between now and 2031 of the Mas control their pick. Sacramento, I mean, they’re the team that everybody talks about like they’re already open for business. Sabonis, Lavine, D Rozan, they’ll take the calls already. So, the Kings are in a really bad way. And then Memphis, just the injuries that devastated them last season have not let up. Although, Zack Edy, since Zack Edy came to Dallas and just bullied the Mavs on both ends of the court with his rebounding has only gotten better since then. Like, what do you have? Did he have 21 rebounds last night? I think did he really 21 with eight offensive? Give Zub the business. I think I’m remembering that accurate. I mean, he’s just he’s been he’s been fantastic. Yeah. Um, but man, that whole, like I said, the Jazz have a young team and a zillion picks and, you know, more optionality. Like, I don’t put the Jazz in that category, but those other five team, all five of those teams, too. Again, all five of those teams and the Mavs are included. Mavs, Kings, Pelicans, Grizzlies, and the Clippers. All five of those teams came into this season expecting to win. They were not expecting to be in the tankathon spinathon. So, well, they might combine to win enough games to finish top four in the West. It’s crickets. I mean, it’s just I can’t believe someone’s Look at that. Helpful. Look, looks like the Mavs are at the podium. Mike Curtis is tweeting. All right, got to log on. Thank you for the heads up. Yeah, Sports T said that I guess Coupe said he modeled his game after uh Kawawaii being a two-way player. So, I could see that. I could see that. Yeah, that’s when comp that people I remember people making before. Yeah, I made that a little bit for him, too. Uh Mark, what happened with uh what happened with PJ Washington? I mean, look, Ron got into it a little bit, but you Yeah, like I would love I I’ve been trying to get an update again. It’s not easy to do when the team’s in LA and I’m in the downtown Dallas studios. I mean, the best thing you can say is that the first Mav I saw tweeting postgame about Cooper flag was PJ Washington. Hopefully, that’s an indication that it’s not serious. But if you’ve seen the clip, it’s just it’s it’s such bad luck. I mean, PJ’s on his way down for a shot in warm-ups. Clearly had no idea the ball had rolled underneath his foot and just landed on it. And initially, the Mavs said first he was supposed to start. They had to scratch him. First, the team said he’s questionable to return. So, you think, okay, maybe it’s not that bad. 10 minutes didn’t go by before they ruled him out for the rest of the night. So, I, you know, we don’t have a formal update beyond that, but obviously the last thing the Mavs needed with Derek Lively still out indefinitely. And Anthony Davis, we knew, was not going to play both ends of the backto-back. Anthony Davis is expected to play Monday night in Denver. He was always missing tonight’s game after playing last night in a in in the Laker game, but you know, we’ll have to see. Can Gaffford come back Monday against Denver? We await on both Gaffford and PJ. We’re just going to have to wait for word on their availability. The Nuggets steamrololled the Suns tonight. Uh they just lost at home last night to the Spurs and they also lost their previous home game to the Kings and they also lost their previous home game to the Bulls. When was the last time the Nuggets lost three straight home games? It’s been a long time now. When was the last time they lost four straight tonight though? They went into Phoenix with Joic. I mean the Nuggets announced before the game tonight that Joic was questionable with a left wrist brain and then then he was so questionable that he had 2610 and nine in 31 minutes. So Dwight’s going to have to guard him or Gaffford. Dwight has to start again, right? Yeah, Dwight’s got to ride the hot hand. Ride the hot hand, Cece. Um, all right. I I I don’t know if this is in the spirit. I want to leave this up to chat. We had a pre-show meeting. Okay, we decided we want to do a Tankathon spin every show just like we did last year. We did it last year and they ended up winning the lottery. Okay, so you can’t get mad at us. But do you want us to do a Tankathon spin after a win? Let us know. Or is that considered bringing the vibes down? Speak now. Speak up. Make your voice heard. The way we’re leaning in here is to wait. Yeah, until December 1st. Until after the next loss, whenever that is. That might not be on December 1st. Might be another day. But there’s a decent chance it would be. There’s a pretty good chance it will be. While people vote, can we talk about talk about this the other negative thing? Oh my god, that enjoyed. So, you are allowed to be you’re allowed to be active as a two-way player for 50 games. And that’s not even appearing. That’s just just dressing. You’re allowed to be available for 50 games. And once those 50 games run out, you can still remain on a two-way contract. You just can’t be with the team anymore. You got to stick in the G- League. Or more than likely, you can just get cut and sign with another team. Musa Cisi has already been active for 21 games, meaning he only has 29 left. Ryan Nimhard, the starting point guard of the Dallas Mavericks, only has 36 games left. Miles Kelly, 44 games left, and there are only 61 games left in the Mavericks season. So, we’re already on watch. We should wait till Monday, December 1st. We will do. We got people saying yes. Most people have said yes, I would say. But if you want to wait, we can wait. We can wait if you want. I just think we should wait till December 1st. Start Monday night and then do a spin every show from December 1st until the lottery. All right. Well, I’m going to do we we won’t say this one out loud. This is official. You’re doing it. I’m just going to just to indulge. You have to say it out loud if you’re doing it. Yeah. I mean, if you’re doing it, if you’re doing it, we have I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to do it. Chat, can we just wait till I mean, listen, this is the upcoming schedule, which I just had on my phone and now lost. Okay, even after this momentous surprise win at Clipperland, the upcoming schedule, this is now through Christmas. Monday night at Denver, Wednesday night home to the Fast-Pac Heat. Friday at OKC, Saturday home to Houston. Oh, back to back. Then the whole then the whole next week there’s only one game during NBA Cup knockout round week. One game the whole week home game against the Nets. The Mavs get three cracks. Three cracks at the Eastern Conference Nets. Then the following week, starting m December 15th at Utah, home to Detroit, at Philly, and then before Christmas, at New Orleans, home to the Nuggets on Festivus, off on Christmas Eve, at Golden State Warriors on Christmas. Oh man. And uh to give you an an idea of just how bad who are they? They they’re playing Utah and Brooklyn, right? The makeup games. Yes. So, home to the Nets, away to the Jazz. The Nets and Jazz are so bad that by virtue of having them on the schedule, the Mavs’ remaining strength of schedule dropped from second hardest to third hardest. So, it actually made their schedule considerably easier. That’s wild. I think we’re doing I think we’re doing the right thing. It’s pretty unlucky to get the three times. We’re going to hold off on the Tankathon spin till all four of us are sitting here Monday night. This is like a once in a-lifetime opportunity to get another top prospect around Coupe and you got to play the Nets three times. It’ll be tough. [Laughter] It’s going to be tough to lose that game, but by God, I think they got it in him. Uh, but not if played like did beat Boston. The Nets beat the Mavs last year. D’Angelo Russell had a big game. Remember? I don’t. It was right at the end of the year. The Nets came to Dallas and won. Is that the game that led the Mavs to sign DLO? Oh my god. Oh my god. It’s 59 alert. That’s the worst day of my life. Fast channel 59 alert. Uh well, when do when did we start? Because we have to go at least an hour, right? No. Yeah, we’re we’re we start on the on the button. Yeah. Okay. Um All right. I don’t lead you astray. Okay. All right. Well, I I No, you want overtime over time in there. We got almost 400 people staying up late with this. I Hey, listen. I really really The crowds this weekend have been ridiculous. I I know that Mark does and I know Tanner does and Ron does and KG’s been in the chat. We do. Thank you so much for watching these streams. It is so late at night. This team is not very good. Uh it would have been easy for you to do literally anything else this weekend, but you know, thank you so much. Yeah. For uh for spending that time with us, choosing to to to you know, hop on to hop onto the stream and and be a great chat for us. So, uh thank you so much for watching. Uh, for Ron in an undisclosed location, for Tanner at the producers’s desk, hello. For Mark Stein right next to me. Yes, indeed. Uh, I am Bobby Carella. You are incredibly awesome. Uh, enjoy the rest of your hopefully long hopefully peaceful family and fun-filled weekend or however you’re choosing to relax. Hopefully you can wind down and have a great time. Enjoy some football tomorrow and peace and quiet before the work. Luanova with the line of the night. The maple thief. the Maple Thief. The Mavs have stolen our joy, but tonight they didn’t do it tonight. Uh we will be back with you on Monday when the Mavs take on the Denver Nuggets. Till then, be a good person and we will see you very soon. All right, bye. [Music] [Applause] [Music]

  1. The losses hurt, but the number of clutch games leading to high pressure situations the mavs have been in nearly every game only benefits Cooper and his development.

  2. Painful listen. One of the worst results the Mavs will have all season and you lot are just going "happy, happy joy, joy!". And not just because Cooper played well, which is great, but because you are happy they won a game that is only meaningful for its pick implications.

I get that you aren't committed to tanking as you take a short-term view of things, but that doesn't make this easier to watch. It's especially bad to have Stein tell us that tank talk doesn't matter tonight and then tell us the Clipoers pick is going to OKC

    Join the dots guys.

  3. "you gotta win a couple"

Yes, but not key games like this one. Stop with this BS, simplistic analysis. Just say you enjoy winning and can't stomach tanking. Stop trying to gaslight people into thinking this is a good result for the long-term perspective. It's okay to be honest.

  4. Cooper is the white Mamba. He is Kobe in a bigger stronger white body. Just imagine Kobe with Coops height and size. That's what we got here. He ain't tanking on purpose people so stop asking.

  5. Man, if only Coop had this stat line against the Lakers. Nobody can give Klay his flowers, with out bringing up a slur about his age, or that he doesn't play good anyway. And its all bs. There are a shit ton of players who are only out there for shooting the three. That's what Klay is now, and he's great at it. So no, you don't need to bring up sh!t except for the fact that he had a great game.

  6. I'm still amazed that the Flop and Flail King (Harden) didn't get free throws on that last drive to the hoop. Powell defended him perfectly, but when has that ever stopped the refs from gifting him free throws for phantom contact? After all, they went and looked for a flagrant because Harden told them to after splaying his legs out on the chintzy Klay foul on the 3 pointer. I despise Harden almost as much as I do Dwyane Wade….
