Insider Drops BOMBSHELL Padres Report…
Potters fans, we got a bombshell report to talk about. Jeff Passen maybe talking me back into being on the Luis Oras train. What’s going on everybody? Christian Patterson back with another episode of Padres’s Digest, the show that did not think that we were going to suffer through uh through an off season that has us talking about discount players and ownership changes and fire sales and all that. But I’m here to tell you that there may be some good news in all of this. You saw Luis Oras in the beginning there and I want to talk about some headlines around him and get your honest reaction. So, as we’re talking on all this, drop a comment and if you want to be part of the further discussion, I’m never going to say no to you hitting the subscribe button. Here’s the headline. Luis Orz update makes his free agency case one of the strangest in years. Um th this is talking about an article from Jeff Passen who is one of the more if not the most dialed in baseball people in the the world maybe. Um and Passen goes on to give the um for those of you that don’t remember Luis is a multipletime batting champion. He has been I I mean the closest thing to Tony Gwyn since Tony Gwyn in terms of just a pure singles contact get on base spray the ball allaround kind of hitter. He’s somebody that the Padres’s have had for the last couple of years and I think have had great success with in terms of what he does which is get on base. The Padres’s though have not had runners in front of him for him to hit in and the Padres’s have not hit him in. So it has to some of you and I know that some of you are both uh uh internet people that I don’t know and people in my own group chats. Um shout out Kurt. Uh but it some of you don’t appreciate or like him at all. Some of you don’t like him at high costs. I I I I lost my will to fight with you guys in the comment section about Luis, but I always have kind of been led to believe that getting runners on base is a key essential part of baseball. So, I kind of like him as a asset on a team and maybe he was misused by Schult. Maybe we just didn’t have a good year where his skill set didn’t really matter. I still like him, but the belief kind of going into this off season was that he was going to be a hot commodity uh of the 15 to 20 million a year. Maybe there was going to be a bidding war that has that go up and a fiveyear, a seven. He’s in his he’s he’s in his prime right now to get one last big lengthy contract. But that being said, the the article from Passen goes on to talk about this. Um, and as always, apologies to everybody who’s viewing this on a phone if this text is too small here to read it for you. The Arise is projected to earn 14.1 million annually on a deal in the 2 to threeyear range now. So already the numbers are starting to go down for Arise. The 28-year-old won three straight batting titles from 22 to 24, displaying some of the best bat to ball skills. the ability to spray the ball to different parts of the park used to be cherished and you’d think that any team with a brain would be all in on a guy like that, but this update from Passent says otherwise. So, that’s kind of the summary of all of it. And then the core of Passen’s uh article just kind of gets summed up by like this is that teams can’t help but see Oras for everything that he isn’t like a passable defender or a source of power or even a halfway decent base runner. We saw the base runner issue in the Cubs series. He just was not flying out of the box on a couple of plays that were bo balls bobbled that he could have uh made it on. And not that him running those couple of balls out um was going to send the Padres’s on to win the World Series. It was the wild card against the Cubs. But I get this. I see this. I am not ignorant of this. And um okay, let me ask you though, not a good defender, not a good runner. Isn’t that the job of a DH or or the the potential skill set that surrounds somebody who is just here to hit? Granted, I think we all conjure up an image when we’re talking about that of David Ortiz or somebody like that who is like, okay, he doesn’t get a bunch of other playing time in the field or doesn’t do this and doesn’t pinch run and doesn’t do anything other than just bat, but he produces massive hits and moments like that. Okay, great. Cool. We don’t have that option. But we do have a guy here who other teams are starting to see it like a lot of you see it where it’s like this guy is a one-trick pony who gets singles and what does that really do for us. I get that. I I I understand that. But I also kind of think that if there are um moments are not moments if there if there are if there are other people out there in the baseball realms also thinking that and if there are other front offices also thinking that this is where everything gets a little bit more interesting is that the rationale this rationale may have helped AJ Peller uh and the San Diego Padres’s at a big time is if uh teams are deterred by his game and aren’t interested in meeting arises asking price. It could urge the Padres’s to bring him back on a cheaper contract. Perhaps a short two-year deal with smaller annual value or, and this is the one where I got real interesting, a one-year prove it deal that could give him a chance to prove his net worth. I don’t want to I don’t want to speculate in this video about a work stoppage or saying something grandiose of like a one-year is or isn’t a bad deal in the the grand scheme of where like baseball labor negotiations might go. But if he’s 28, closing in on 30, but not past 30 by the end of a one year or a one year with a player option or something really friendly to say to Luis, look, we’re going to get, you know, we’ve got Ramon Lauraniano now in the lineup. We’re going to get one other piece and we’re going to get you the chance to hit with some guys on and we’re going to get you a full season of DH first base and we’re going to use your right. So, if you still do want to make that 20 million a year, it’s it it is out there. Not this is not a come back and sign him for five years or anything like that. I I I had not conceived of this, but I kind of like this that if baseball is pushing back on a bidding war on Arias, could the Padres’s do something like that where they say, “Hey, you need a friendly confines of a team that supports you and uh wants you back and from everything I’ve seen, no major locker room issues.” Like, he fits. He is a piece that fits. Also, I I just I mathematically have to assume that Nando and Merryill are going to have a have an up year that the having of Ramon Lauraniano and left versus Guriel and Hayward and all those guys is in aggregated like I just mathematically have to assume the Padres’s are going to be a little bit better offensively this coming year which to me then is a boost for Arias because like I said he’s hitting with guys on he’s guys behind him are hitting him in. he becomes more of a piece moving all around the bases and not just a guy who slaps a single, goes to first, inning’s over. Slaps a single, goes to first, innings over. Um, yeah. So, so in this in this past article, I went, I think maybe all the way back to I’m all the way in on it. And Padres’s might actually not have the money to do any of this, but it did make me really curious to structure something like that of a of a one-year with an option or just a straight up one-year deal and just say, “Look, we don’t have the money right now, but next ownership might, next year Yankees might, next like it seems like it might actually work best for all parties to just come up with a hyper short-term deal. Let me know what you think. Drop a comment below. And as always, if you want to hit that follow button, I ain’t going to hate you for it. Talk to you guys next time.

3 years 18mil with opt outs and hits in the 8 or 9 hole.
DH’s need to have power and lots of it.
Get Phony Gwynn OFF of my team.
Tatis would have stolen 80 bases without Arraez hitting behind him fouling off pitches he had no business swinging at
If I was a GM $10 mil a year is tops for me to pay a 2nd baseman
Luis is awesome but we need power on this team. And if Padres keep him, they need to switch his position in the batting rotation to maximize his unique batting abilities (singles). And let’s be real, the batting rotation of players didn’t flow too well last season and that cost the Padres a lot of important games.
I wouldn't pay him no more than eight million a year. He does clog up the base pass. I would give him three years at eight million a year with a opt out every year. And I won't mind if he took it l o l
Not a good fielder? Check Baseball Reference. .991 is not just better than average. It's way better than "not a good fielder." His fielding percentage at first base last year was .999.
Luis is a dope 6 7 8 hitter along with Xander and Crone and plus good D at 1B. But get him out of the top of the lineup.
He isn't on base as much as you'd think. Look at OBP and OPS and that is why folks question him. Love his energy though. Definitely a unique player and consideration
Great small ball player better suited for a team that can actually go deeper into October. Phillies, would be a great fit. Same for Machado. Time is running out for him and SD just cannot put a season together. Choke artists of an elite level.
The Padres need to trade for a shortstop.
Machado ($31.8mil/season) is the leader of “I don’t make enough $ to run hard to first-base”. This past season, Arraez and Tatis have followed Machado’s “I’m not Charlie Hustle” bad example…to their detriment. It’s not a good look.
Luis Arraez had an OBP of .327 and a SLG of .392 while playing bad defense at 1B last year. That is a bad MLB player.
Gezz all I want for Xmas is trade machado, seems like every team he gone to , his teammates doesn’t seem to get along with him, remember the time when he was yelling at tatis in the dugout during a game, no wonder why the dodgers didn’t wanted to extend his contract, he’s like Lebum his mentality is it’s only about me , he really doesn’t care if the padres get a championship just as long as he gets his paycheck, he’s a very cocky player
Padres fans oversimplified the comparison between Tony Gwynn and Luis Arraez. It’s too much.
I would sign him for 5 mil a year deal and have him bat either leadoff or 7,8
he's a one tool player… a perfect number 9 hitter… not worth it…
I would resign him to a one year deal with bonuses and incentives.
No way he’s a DH . But he is. A DH who only hits singles. Fuck him. Padres would be dumb AF to get him back on the team.
