Why the Carolina Panthers are No Longer an Automatic W on NFL Teams’ Schedules | The Rich Eisen Show

There’s been such a a a drastic change in in in in that atmosphere. Um Caleb Williams is just they everybody’s looking like they’re just having fun right now. And I feel like at this point the whole oh you got beat by the Panthers. Oh, let the Panthers do you this way. I feel like that’s over because if you can get got I think we’re going to get you. Well, they’ve gotten some uh this year, that’s for sure. And they’ve gotten more than than than they’ve been gotten. They’re above 500 right now. Um, and the last time they were above 500 through 13 games was 2017 when they started 9 and4, finished 11 and five, and uh, they got one and done at New Orleans in 2017, but they made the playoffs, which is something they could possibly do here. And at the end of the day, Noah, um, they’ve got two of three uh, against Tampa to finish the season. And it’s interesting. Thanks for the call, Noah. But you said that it looks like they’re having fun because when Curt Warner, yours truly, NFL Network crew did Panthers and Giants in um Munich last year, right? Um that wound up being Daniel Jones’s final start as a Giant. And um we were talking to both Bryce Young and Dave Canales prior to the game. I remember we we uh we went to their hotel there in Munich. We did it face to face. Uh and I talked about Bryce Young and his sabbatical. I said, “When you went on your sbatical?” And he smiled and he looks at me. He goes, “I like that word.” And I’m like, “Well, it’s kind of what you did, right? I mean, you got benched.” And the Panthers really didn’t want us to linger on him being benched because if you recall at the time we were all and I thought at the time rightfully saying he should ask out new coach there who’s never done it before. You know an owner who’s got a reputation for being impetuous and how’s it going to work? And sure enough, what’s happened there with Canales and the team is working. And for Noah and Portland to say, you know what, it looks like they’re having fun. Dave Canales said that he said the sign when it’s going to turn, the sign that he’s looking for is that when the team’s personality, the players personality comes out on the field in their play is what he said. So for a Panthers fan to call in and say it looks like they’re having fun. It looks like Canales’s analysis is happening and is working. And I don’t know if they’re going to make the playoffs. I just know that they are 7-6 and they now head off on their by-week while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a home game against New Orleans and then a home game against Atlanta on a short week to kick off week 15. And that’s when the Buccaneers will host Tampa in week 16 before hosting Seattle in week 17 and finishing up at Tampa. The Falcons are out unfortunately for Atlanta. It’s now a division that could be won by Carolina 100% off their buy. They visit New Orleans. Then they’ve got two against Tampa around a huge game with Seattle coming in because Seattle’s going to win that. I mean I mean going to need to win that. I mean and um Bryce Young is 100% playing well at home. Look at the look at the games they lost their first three on the road before winning at the Jets while they were getting Atlanta, Miami, and Dallas at home. Then they go to Green Bay and surprise everybody. That’s when the Fire Laflur chants were beginning to be heard. Right. That’s right. They win in Atlanta in a game where they forced overtime. They were down and then they just beat the Rams, man. They just beat the Los Angeles Rams. And they picked off Matthew Stafford two possessions in a row, but not before Stafford broke the record for most consecutive touchdown passes without an interception. A record. He entered this game tied with Tom Brady for 27. He threw his 28th touchdown pass in a row without an interception. Surprisingly, hit Devonte Adams for the first of two times in this game. and and then he threw two picks and that’s when you knew things were maybe not going to be as easy for the Rams as potentially we thought with the Rams coming into this game as the I think widely believed best team in football. Yeah. One of those picks was in the end zone. Yeah. And so, uh, give it up to Carolina because they didn’t have Horn and they didn’t have Trevon Merig because, you know, he hit the forbidden speed bag and um, of Jawan Jennings, who we’ll get to in a second before we’re done here today. They c got the the third turnover of Stafford was the was the was the game ender because it looked like the Rams in a seessaw back and forth battle were going to score again forcing Carolina to go down the field to try and win it and instead they turn Stafford over and wrap the game up on a fumble and um give it up. Carolina now hits the buy seven and six above 500 and can absolutely win this division. I called him my sleeper team in the NFC coming in. It didn’t look good. You thought it was, you know, Rico Dattle was the guy. Chuba Hubard huge game yesterday indeed. So they got the running game and Ted McMillan is now currently the odds on favorite for or Tedoa McMillan for offensive rookie of the year. Mac. Yeah, he is. Okay. Scoring touchdowns. That was his only catch, right? A 40 yard bomb. Bryce Young with his second three touchdown no interception game of the year. He had only one such game in his first two years in the league. And he’s got seven wins this year. He had only six wins in the first two years in the league. So, his sbatical is now turning into a potential playoff season for the first overall selection.   4. CAR fan here, i still dont like Canales and wish this damn team knew how to win consistently but, we're trending upward a little and im happy about that. That said, i look forward to watching them lose to the Saints again in 2 weeks

  7. Bogus title. Ask KC, Philly & Atlanta last season if we were an automatic win. Hell, look at the teams we beat this year alone. What are we talking about? Yes, we have been a Basic team for about 5 years, but so has a TON of teams in the league. Watch the game tape and stop just looking at Wins & Loses. We had two Atrocious coaches in Matt Rhule & Frank Reich b/c we have an owner who just this year has stopped making Moronic decisions and let the Ballers ball. Fun Note: Steelers last Super Bowl was in 2011. Panthers last Super Bowl was in 2015. Vikings last Super Bowl was 1976. Kansas City’s last Super Bowl before Patty was 1969. You see what im saying? Every team goes thru its struggles even the 4 teams who have Never been to a Super Bowl before, Browns, Lions, Jaguars & Texans. Keep Pounding! 😎

  16. Oh puh-leez. Dave Tepper is hardly impetuous. He's also been called interfering, something else for which there is no evidence. And my totally not favorite, his wife has no business in the draft room. Excuse me? Is she not co-owner? Knee jerk reactions based on zero facts. As a fan I'm waaaay over this garbage.

  20. Panthers are the youngest team in the entire league. That explains much of the inconsistency, but it is nice to see that they are actually improving as a team. Its been almost a decade since last team they were actually improving as a team.

Also, in regards to your comment about the owner, that’s completely fair since you were talking about the past… but you should mention he’s changed now. Haven’t seen him at all this year he’s just letting the crew eat and staying out the way. He had to grow too he was a first time majority owner.

  24. I'll say it…. Dave Canales should get consideration for coach of the year…. If we would've beat the saints and the Cardinals, we would be 9-4 right now
