The Eagles NEEDED this news more than I realized… but there’s a catch!

Abandoning the birds following their Friday night fiasco is the easy thing to do in Philadelphia today. But the news that just dropped both inside the Novacare complex and across the country in LA might be the spark the Eagles are looking for. Plus, why Nick Serani might be hiding his actual decision on whether to keep or fire Kemp Patulo this week. The latest leak surrounding Gilen Herz that if true must be fixed immediately. Thomas Mott. This is the Thomas M show. Philadelphia just had one of those no good, very bad, horrible weeks last week that has everybody in the city of brotherly love abandoning ship or at least on the edge. Did the beauty of the NFL took over once again this weekend and give to the birds some really big breaks not only for their matchup this coming Monday night but for the NFC playoff race as a whole at least as long as Nick Serriani, Kim Patulo, and Julen Herz actually figure out what’s wrong with the current offense. First though, the winner of the Brian Dawkins Jordan Spector art piece is announced at the end of today’s video. So, watch to the end to see if you won. Oh, and Jordan Spectre told me to tell you guys he’s having his biggest sale of the year today until the end of today. 30% off Cyber Monday sale. I’ll link it down below. Get his art pieces right now. Plus, we just hit 10,000 subs. So, the Philly Dog signed helmet giving away very, very soon. So, drop a like. Why don’t you comment dogs down below in the comments section to make sure you’re entered. Now, the biggest Eagle news of the day actually happened yesterday in LA. The very field Philadelphia will travel to one week from Monday night. As in the first quarter of the Chargers win over the Raiders, Justin Herbert suffered a shot right here on this plate to his left hand, which now, as of today, officially caused a broken bone id left hand requires surgery on Monday afternoon. Let me stop you right there. It is surgery. It’s going to happen on Monday afternoon. But just because he’s having surgery does not mean he’s been officially ruled out for the Eagles game next Monday night. As for what it’s worth, Herbert told reporters after the game before surgery that he will prepare to play this week as if he is going to play. The injury is to his non-throwing hand, so technically there’s a chance. Trey Lance is the current backup with the Los Angeles Chargers. And yet, if Herbert actually plays with the broken hand on Monday night, it might be a very big break for the birds. And here’s why. Grip strength is the biggest hurdle for Herbo this weekend, particularly in crowded pockets with players around him. Looking at Eugen Phillips, need to get some sacks. But especially, here’s the key factor when it comes to running plays from under center. As before Herbert actually exited Sunday’s game to get X-rays onset hand, LA ran exclusively out of the shotgun to protect the injured hand. And now it’s likely that big Fanjo can expect the Chargers to almost exclusively run out of shotgun on Monday night. For a team like Los Angeles who wants to run a ton of jumbo formations and run the ball from under center, the offense could be severely limited or at best predictable versus Philadelphia. And the big factor in the Chargers most recent loss that was 35 to6 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, LA was completely unable to run the football where they had just 16 carries for 42 yards on the ground. If they can’t run or if it’s least predictable out of shotgun when they do, again, big break for Philadelphia. This is some big news. Now, of course, time will tell. This will be a fluid thing to monitor as the days really go by up until Monday night. The surgery happens Monday afternoon. Probably by the time you’ve watched this video, then he has to recover. The swelling has to go down. They have to go and look at it. X-ray. Again, we’re not going to officially know Herbert’s status until probably Thursday or Friday. So, subscribe, stay tuned. I think he’s going to play, but again, he’s going to be very, very limited. Now, flying back to Philadelphia, and we did get some positive news right before kickoff on Friday that Lane Johnson, according to the NFL Network, is targeting December 14th, Sunday home matchup against the Raiders as his official timeline to return from set foot injury. Which feels honestly really fast to me. When Lane Johnson went down, all of us, including myself, said, “Wait, hold him out until playoffs.” My only hope is that they’re not going to rush him back here because you don’t really need him verse the Raiders. But whenever he does come back, the 14th or later, getting back their best offensive leader, at least at a time when Philadelphia’s offense is in kind of a crisis situation, is definitely a huge break. Lane, we need you back. Hopefully, you’ll be back to 100% and maybe, just maybe, he’s a missing piece that can start to get the Eagle offensive line looking like the 2024 version. One minor addition to the offense that actually happened this morning was the signing of wide receiver Terence Marshall Jr. at the practice squad to fill Britain Cubby’s place since technically he’s now on the active roster. Obviously, I know not a big move, but I report the news and guess what? There’s news here and right now we can all have a nice little flashback to early July when everybody was raving about Marshall to start training camp until he did nothing. The other big bit of news though that everyone seemed to miss from a couple of days ago was actually The Athletic linking former Giants head coach Brian Dable to the Eagles of the Coordinator job saying quote Dable is a football fanatic who knows the business and he’s not done. He wants to coach again, but have to be in the right situation in a spot that feels like the right fit. Some flo the idea of him as a future offensive coordinator for the Eagles or Texans. It’s all just fun fodder for now. There’s no doubt he’ll be back. Now, of course, this article is focused on the future OC edition of Brian Dable, aka the spring. Yet, there have been many Eagle fans wondering, especially in my comment section, if he could maybe become an offensive consultant before the season is over in Philadelphia. Well, first thought, I’ll say no. Unlikely. But there is technically precedent as the birds back in 2022, you know this, brought Vic Fanjo in as a defensive consultant during their Super Bowl run for eventually getting him back to Philadelphia as the official DC 2 years later. Trying Dable now could at least be some sort of dress rehearsal to see how he meshes with Jaylen Herz and Nick Serriani and the rest of the Philly culture. And while of course he flamed down in New York wasn’t good, Dable is still considered a very bright offensive mind and the genius behind guys like Josh Allen and perhaps could be one of many former head coaches who are much better suited as a coordinator rather than a head coach. Again, nothing has happened, at least as of yet, but I’ve seen your comments. I know you guys thought this would be interesting. We’ll see. Let me know about Dable down below. Still though, I can actually look into the future and guess your comments that’s happening right now down below me. You’re saying Thomas, it doesn’t matter if her plays. It doesn’t matter if Lane Johnson plays because this offense and this team is going nowhere as long as Ken Patulo is still their OC. To which I’m not actually going to argue. You guys know I don’t like KP either. But the reality is at least as of this morning, Monday morning, he is staying as the play caller in Philadelphia for at least one more game. As of right now, Patulo, he’s not been demoted. He’s not been fired despite what the road sign on Patterson Avenue displayed to commuters early this morning. Whoever did this, thumbs up. That’s pretty funny. What I did find kind of interesting today though was Adam Shfter dropping a mini hint on the Pat McAfee show. Nick Serriani might become more involved in the offensive play calling going forward. You know Nick Seriani probably has to get a little bit more involved in the offense. The offensive line’s got to play better. There’s probably a combination of factors, but Nick Serriani said they’re not planning to do anything like that. Diva first, do we actually want Nick series input in this offense? That’s a very valid question. Flashback to 2021 released early that season pre-shane styen a little iffy but of course do not go down a deep rabbit hole here I’ll at least say could it get much worse than it currently is I think in reality this is Shfter saying Siri could take over I don’t know some more meetings some more play design some more game prep maybe some play calls who knows it could somewhat be a closet demotion of KP but again this is speculation nothing officially in the news as of yet but what no one wants to tell you right now is that Nick Serriani technically does not have to tell us if he demotes KP for any sort of reason. As the Inquirer pointed out over the weekend, Nick Serriani back in 2023 took away Sha Desai’s third down play calling abilities when the team was an NFL best 10-1. He did that all behind the scenes and without the knowledge of anyone outside the building. Desai then continued to be the front-facing DC for three more games at least on first and second down before eventually the wheels fell off and that Patricia was promoted aka Desai was fired. So of course time will tell. My guess is if they lose on Monday night in a very ugly offense performance versus the Chargers then he gets axed. But we’ll see. My hope though this week is right now as we speak behind the scenes, the Eagles offense and all the players and coaches are getting together and doing what Nick Fo suggested they do on his podcast a couple of days ago. So like Jaylen Herds, I do not know this, but what I would recommend is in the huddle if there’s games going on that like talk to your guys. What do you like? I’m talking to the receivers. Listen, receivers are always going to say a play that you have to take with a grain of salt because they want the ball. But sometimes there’s going to be a gym and they’re like, “It’s actually a good play call.” I mean, even Jason Peters one year, but man, what about that wide throwback? And as JP, I’m like, coach, I went to Doug. I’m like, hey, JP wants wide throwback. You don’t have to do it, but Jason wants it. Let me know if you want it. I just want He’s watching me right now walk over to you to ask for wide throwback. It’s up to you. There’s times that players know what will work. So, this has now turned into with where their offense is right now a figure this out by committee, players, coaches, everyone sitting down. Jaylen Hurst, AJ Brown, Devonte Smith, Saquon Barkley, Cam Jurgens, Lane Johnson, Jeff Stoutland, Kevin Patulo, Nick Serriani, everyone get in a dang room, an offensive room and say, “What? Who are we? What do we want to be?” and figure this thing out. Cuz if we keep going out there day in and day out and doing what you’re doing, you’re going to get beat. You are your defense is holding you together. Your offense is playing. It’s not good. But the personnel and the players and I know the guys in that building. I know the culture, they have it all there to do amazing things. And thank goodness Jaylen Herz is protecting the ball cuz they’re in a good position right now. But let’s all humble ourselves. Let’s leave our ego at the door and let’s go do this by committee and figure and if they do that, they will literally start blowing the brakes off the points and everything. But it’s going to be a by committee a team coming together and and creating a moment for them. And technically, there is proof that something of that nature has already happened, at least with AJ Brown in the passing game as Brown’s route tree from Friday’s loss looked the best it has all season under KP, especially across the middle. In fact, Brown now leads the NFL in receiving yards the past two games despite the fact that Philadelphia is 2-4 this year and a wide receiver has 100 plus yards and 6 and0 when no receiver hits the century mark. Perhaps a nod to the continuing need to fix the rushing attack, which actually goes back to coaching because once again, can’t believe I’m saying this, but also use Grant Kakutera as a run blocking tight end on 10 of his 12 total snaps for Chicago. And obviously, none of them worked. And that right there shows the heart of the issue. Not just being Nick Serriani, not just being Kembulo, not just being Jaylen Herz, but actually a combination of all three. For example, you guys know I love defending Jaylen Herz, and I will still say he’s number three on my list of biggest problems behind KP and Nick Serriani. Not playing well, but he’s also not playing terribly. And yet, Jeff Mlan, he reported on his podcast most recently that he heard over the offseason that Herz does not want to run as much as a quarterback this year because of his injury in the Commanders game late in the 2024 regular season, which honestly, I get valid point. I don’t want to get hurt. He doesn’t want to get hurt. Availability is the best ability. And yet Philadelphia’s complete lack of quarterback runs and RPOS’s are hurting this offense. If Jaylen is the reason that KP can’t call certain plays, well, again, that’s kind of on Jaylen. Again, I’m not blaming QB1. Obviously, you need to throw before you run. But still, could you mix in a little bit more and run just a little bit more because his legs are a massive, massive weapon. But then, of course, to prove the point that it’s not just Gilen Herz, it’s everybody involved. How about the fact that Tank Bsby only played one snap versus the Chicago Bears? That is not Jillen Herz’s call. or Cameron Lu. He played in five snaps which actually worked great while Grant Kakatera as we said played in 12. That is not Unchulan Herz. That’s coaching. And that of course goes back to my main point here. It’s not just one thing. It’s not just KP. It’s not just Jaylen, not just Serriani, not just the offensive line, not just Cameron Latu or Gran Kakatera. It’s everybody involved. And I think the answer at some point is that the leader, the true number one on this team, aka the head coach, has got to step in. He has to be a grown-up and demand personal changes like Lu and Bixsby. He’s got a man Jaylen Herz run the football more and he has a man Kempulo takes the training wheels off of this completely vanilla offense. The Buck stops at the head coach Nicki says that after every single loss this season but for 12 weeks Philadelphia’s been playing Nick Serani’s stated favorite conservative type of football turn the football over play vanilla and eventually they’ll win. And with that they’re 8-4. When you look around the rest of the NFC they can no longer afford to lose many more games. When this offense has worked this year it’s been through the air. They’ve had halves. They’ve had quarters where they’ve thrown the football well. They’ve been not conservative. They’ve attacked and it’s worked to perfection. And as it stands right now, it can’t get much worse than Friday afternoon, Nick. So, swallow your pride. Demand the offense get back on track. If that takes demoting KP, do it. If not, figure this thing out. And I say all of this as an internal optimist. You guys watch my show and know I’m an optimist. I’m not giving up on the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m not saying it’s 2023 all over again. Starting to feel like it. And yet, when you actually compare the two, they’re not exactly the same. Philadelphia is in a much better position this year than they were two years ago. For example, Philadelphia’s strength of victory in 2023 through 13 weeks was 10th among 500 teams or better. This year, it’s second. They’ve beaten a ton of elite football teams and even the slip in the NC standings on Friday are perfectly positioned to still secure the two or the one seat, especially after the Rams got embarrassed by the Panthers and Carolina. And Chicago’s schedule the rest of the way. It’s an absolute gauntlet. They’re going to lose a couple of these. And then if they get to the magic number of 13 wins, the number one seed is very much in play. As long as everybody loses once, Chicago loses twice. Not exactly completely easy, but it’s doable and technically right in front of them. Now, of course, do I think Philadelphia’s offense is going to magically fix itself on Monday night versus the Chargers? No. I’ve said that for weeks now. It’s not. And I think what we see is what we’re going to get. But they can get rid of pre- snap penalties. If they can figure out how to block up front a little bit better, you can go from a bottom three early 28th ranked offense in the National Football League to the 20th or the 17th or the 16th. Middle of the pack mediocrity would go a long way for the birds. And again, if they can just get to that point, the final five games are set up beautifully for Philadelphia. I mean, come on. You have an injured Justin Herbert, followed by the worst offense in football, not named Tennessee, or maybe the Eagles, and then the Playing for Nothing Commanders, followed by the AFC version of the Eagles in Buffalo, followed by a Playing for Nothing Commanders in week 18. Wins are certainly there for the taking, but of course, they have to bounce back. They have to get that first win, and that starts with the Chargers on Monday night. I said after the Cowboys debacle, how they look versus the Bears will tell us everything we need to know. They look terrible, and so maybe I’m being way too optimistic. This though, this week is truly the makeorb breakak week. If they look bad versus the Chargers, if they lose versus the Chargers, I think it’s over. And whether they win the division or not, they’re going to go one and done in the playoffs and it will be 2023 all over again. But they can somehow figure out a way to beat an injured Justin Herbert kind of up and down streaky here in their Charger team. I think a lot of people are going to jump back on the hype train, especially if the offense doesn’t look completely pathetic. We’ll see. Maybe I’m right, maybe I’m wrong. Let me know down below in the comments section. Also, it’s time for the winner of the Jordan Spectre art, Brian Dawkins piece, which shout out to Jordan Spector. We have a lot more of these coming up in terms of giveaways happening this week, next week. You guys know the deal. I said on my Friday video that the most liked comment on that video or on Saturday would win. Most liked comment was Philly Hem 53 get 321 likes. And it basically said, I don’t understand why we won’t give Tank Bsby who’s averaging eight yards per carries and join the Eagles some more carries. Which I could not agree more with, but most of you guys went ahead and liked that. So, Philly, you won. Go below in my description box. Send me an email. Prove it to you. I’ll get it sent out. And of course, leave a comment. Comment dogs down below to enter the Philly dog sign helmet giveaway happening probably early next week depending on how the rest of the week goes. We’ll see. Either way, trying to be a little bit, I don’t know, optimistic here on a Monday. Is that allowed? I know we’re all panicking, but the Rams lost, Herbert’s injured. They could just figure it out on offense. We’ll see. Thomas Mott Ben.

Eagles news following their embarrassing loss to the Bears began this week with some huge updates. First, Chargers QB Justin Herbert suffered a broken bone in his left hand that will require surgery. Herbert claims he will try and play Monday night vs the Eagles but his status is still up in the air. Also, Lane Johnson could be coming back from injury sooner rather than later. Next, the Athletic hinted at a possible Brian Daboll connection to Philadelphia for the Eagles’ open OC job next offseason if Kevin Patullo is fired, although some are wondering if a consulting job could be in the works. Finally, a new report on Jalen Hurts claims the Eagles QB does not want to run as much this season, and Nick Sirianni might take over some of the offense according to Adam Schefter. 1. Wow a LOT happened over the weekend. Also to celebrate 110k subs… drop a like and comment "Dawgs" to enter the signed Philly Dawgs helmet giveaway!

Watch out for scammers as usual!

  2. I was so bummed of the last two games/loses
..especially to the Cowboys. But if they lose to the Chargers next week I will have way less sympathy because Siriani is sitting on his butt and not doing anything about Kevin Petula. I guess 'denial' is also a river that runs through Philadelphia.

  3. I agree if eagles can win Monday, they still have a chance but sadly I will stand by what I said way back at the start of the year…if they stay with KP, it will cost them another superbowl. Nothing has changed on that front. I wish it was otherwise

  4. So lemme get this straight. We need an opposing quarterback to break his hand so that we maybe have a shot at winning a game? Is that what you're saying?

Because a team that needs the opponent to be crippled isn't worth following, let alone worthy of going to the playoffs. (By the way, Herbert will likely play, since the Chargers just need to hand the ball off to their running back to win.)

  5. There might be some politics behind Bigsby not being the priority vs Saquon shaking the rust off. But even if that was the case couldn’t Bigsby soften of the front line to buy a bit of time for Saquon

  6. you also say heck

I have never heard ANYONE ever say heck in real life
    Say fuck just once
Youtube still pays out as long as its not in the first 30 seconds

So ya. HECK, you live in a country with multiple mass shootings per week

This isn't a coincidence. But no "bad words"
Backwards ass fucking country right now. Nowhere to go but up.

  7. Let's get it Philly Dawgs!

I'm looking forward to seeing first hand if there will be a noticeable change this coming Monday night as I'll be at the game to watch our Birds.

    Let's Hunt!!!🦅🏈🦅🏈🦅🏈🦅
