Fangraphs projects a $96m payroll at present for the Twins. If the 4 players mentioned by Passan (Buxton, Ryan, Lopez, Jeffers) are moved. This cuts payroll to just $47m. Led by $10m to Correa

lol, families will go to the games to have something to do in the summer, but that’s about it
I for one can’t wait for the highest paid player on the 2026 Minnesota Twins payroll to be Carlos Correa
I’ve probably blocked any teams from memory – but would a team without those 4, or 3/4, be the worst Twins team ever fielded?
I will say that this makes me less inclined to think Lopez gets traded.
Pittsburgh, Miami and the A’s have all been subject to grievances from the MLBPA recently and all seem to be forced to hit at least $80-90m this year.
I dont believe the Twins would be able to find $40m of players who WANT to play here
Keeping that $21m – at least until the deadline – would make sense.
And yes I am embarrassed that we are having this conversation. It should never ever have been allowed to happen. Its not even managed decline at this point. Its a destruction.
O thank god! I was very worried that the Pohlads would be forced to sell something to make ends meet but now thankfully they can afford to put food on their table.
I hate that I’m a fan of this team.
This team is trying to get contracted. Change my mind.
FWIW, thinking in terms of a general manager creating a long term plan, trading off assets now for assets in the future really isn’t a bad idea.
What is a bad idea: not having a plan. It doesn’t seem like this FO has any kind of plan for _baseball_ . It’s still possible all of this (trading players, bringing on minority investors, etc.) is a stalling move until the resolution of a new CBA puts the team back on the market. At the moment, that’s what I’m holding out hope for.
If you’re this ownership group, what are you even trying to do if you cut the payroll this much? I know rich people are absurdly out of touch, but like, there’s no way you can think this is what is best for winning baseball games.
Dark days
I can’t take both the Vikings and the Twins being garbage. Could this possibly be the nadir of Minnesota sports? Ffs I hope so.

Burn it all down.
They should sign me at this point. They’ll get the same results & absolutely MASSIVE savings.
Gotta pay for that new cabin up north somehow 🤷♂️
Everyone knows about the payroll threshold that when a team goes over, they have to pay a “tax” to MLB.
They need to add a bottom threshold as well. If you are X million below? Pay X million to the league.
Love the team, hate the owners. Always so damn cheap.
47 millioN and the nepo Pohlads still be like … ” Dump some more”
Fail-vey 100% about to be taken advantage of by competent GM s once again.
I’d spit on a Pohlad if I saw them in public at this point.
And if it were cut to $47M, when on god’s green earth would we ever see it get above $60M again? Legitimately; what evidence is there to suggest at all that the money saved by cutting/trading is going to go back in the payroll? Is this Trickle Down Baseball?
For context the payroll in 1999 was around $16 million. Which would be close to $31 million in today’s dollars so it’s not that far off those times. Pohlad pocket protectors at their finest here.
I am actually hoping that they can get it this low. No sense paying a team if they’re going to be the league’s punching bag.
Keep losing, and collect that competitive balance payout.
This is literally a rich person pissing on the sport of baseball and the fans on Minnesota in a naked cash grab and they don’t give AF about what anyone else thinks.
