Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito on making the playoffs: ‘It’s about just getting in’

He’s not wrong
Call me crazy but I wouldn’t really care if we missed playoffs this year to come back healthy next season. Ideally we still make playoffs this year & see what happens, but it’s not like our window closes this year.
Just get in.
That’s all we need.
That’s what she said.

Still plenty of season left.
Let’s go Cats!!!!!
Trust in Lord Zito. If he knows no fear then neither do I.
ONLY for his team or a team like his.
“Just get in” is not a strategy for the Canucks or teams like that.
Just realized this is the panthers sub.
I’m a Canucks fan first, Caps fan second but I sub the Cats cuz I’ve always had a soft spot for them.
Anyways, back to the original point. When you’ve won back to back cups, have Matthew Tkachuk and Barkov on the shelf, then guys like Marchand, Reinhardt and Bennett? Then yea, just get in. Those guys can carry you through and you get reinforcements, maybe a deadline add, maybe some cap shenanigans or not, who knows.
But the problem with this theory is shitty teams try to use it. And by shitty teams I mean MY team lol. Because it’s not just about getting in. This Canucks roster can squeak into 8th and unless they’re on a 30-0 run to end the season I can promise they’re not getting past 6 games in round one. I’m a season ticket holder and last year as always they came calling for playoff ticket deposits. We declined. Because we knew even if we made it, it would be a 5-6 game exit. The owner just wants to get in for playoff gate revenue.
There used to be a financial ad up here in Canada where the two brothers or whatever are talking and one says “hope, is not a strategy”. Many owners/front offices in the NHL seem to think it is.
TLDR; for the panthers, in their current state and for the next couple years at least, I agree. Just get in. But for MOST teams, you’re simply not good enough to “just get in”.
The east is getting tougher and looks like u need at least 100 pts to get into the playoffs

The defense is atrocious right now.
