I would consider trading Jones before Jasson. Jasson batted .257, and if his right-handed at-bats are excluded, his average would be above .280. He was also recovering from two injuries and playing out of position in left field, which is particularly challenging at Yankee Stadium. I believe Jasson's defensive performance was improving. While the Yankees might afford Volpe a few years to establish himself, it seems Jasson is not being given the same opportunity, which presents a less than ideal impression.

Cashman best damn well not trade him.
I’m open to trading Jasson for the right player. If it’s for Fernando Tatis Jr or Tarik Skubal I’d be all over it.
The problem is that his trade value is so low now that he alone won’t fetch a player like that. The rest of the league sees what we’re seeing. A kid with impressive athleticism with high offensive upside but limitations defensively. I’d rather hang onto him to see if we can unlock some of that potential instead of trading him just because.
Issue is if you want Bellinger or Tucker where would Jasson play? off the bench he can’t hit lefties or play defence so as a fourth outfielder his role would be limited to giving days off, pinch running and pinch hitting against righties. Any value he still has will be gone if he doesn’t get playing time this year.
Jones is a riskier player but at least he could fit as the long term CF solution after Trent leaves.
He mentions the Royals and if we deal him I think we’d be better off adding to the package and trying to get Cole Ragans. Ragans is a monster and a potential ace who would arguably have the best stuff on the staff.
He had a monster 2024 and was injured to start last year. Even though he had a 4.67 ERA he had a 2.50 FIP and a 14.3 K/9 (!!!) we know how Kauffman is actually a hitters park and that YS is a pitchers park for lefties so he would be a great fit with us.
Re-sign Bellinger and send Dominguez, Cunningham, Jones and Gil to maybe get it done? Honestly I’d trade Lombard if we had to. Ragans has 3 years of cheap control and would give us an incredible rotation.
I feel like if the Yankees utilized him in a better way he would find a lot more success. Idk too much about baseball but it seems like they didn’t want to play him to his strengths such as having him hit Lefty all the time and playing him in Center Field
We’re so used to prospects coming up and instantly performing, (Gary, Sevy, Andujar, Gleyber, Judge after a bad month, Greg Bird in 2015), that many fans overreact to a prospects having a below average season in his first full year. His injury also saps power for about a year, so he’s also going to be hitting dingers again soon.
It really sucks that with Trent coming back that the only firm way to improve the current lineup is to either trade McMahon, blackmail Cashman into moving on from Volpe, or totally shafting Jasson.
I can hear it right now, I can feel it in my fucking bones if we trade him- “2027 Home Run Derby Champion, San Diego Padres Left Fielder Jasson Dominguez”
If they bring back Bellinger or even the 5% chance they get Tucker jones and/or Dominguez will be gone b/c they are redundant. They need a right handed CF Bench option anyway. Jones will be a bust anyway and Dominguez can’t field and hits lefties poorly.
It’s unfortunate I like him a lot it’s just the reality of the situation and I hope he gets traded and does well
Trent QO was a mistake
I hate everything about this. He’s young, he’s got huge potential, and he’s not a fucking Left Fielder. We are (once again) playing someone out of position then grilling them for struggling. He played 120 games and didn’t light the world on fire ok, he’s also 22 and could very easily improve from an average to good to great player if given the chance.
This even being a possibility because we paid Trent Grisham 22 million US dollars is malpractice.
