Ernest Jones IV: “I Love Each And Every Guy In That Locker Room” | Seattle Seahawks

I don’t know how much that you could hear, but just that’s what it’s all about. Have a teammate speak about you that way. For me, that’s what it’s all about, man. These, you know, these stats, um, you know, once football is over with, you know, not too many people are going to remember the football player, man. I want everybody to remember the person. I want everybody to know, man, I I love each and every guy that’s in that locker room. I’ll put a put my life on the line for him, and that that’s no exaggeration. So, that meant everything to me. Um, yeah, I’ll take that with me forever. Your coach said you have talked to the team for the agency. It’s videotaped. What you tell them? Um, you know, I was telling him it’s it’s been rough on me, man. It’s been tough. Um, and the the relief that I get is, you know, being around these guys and playing football. But, you know, I told the guys that I I feel like I’ve been missing something. Um, I wear this cross around my my neck, but I haven’t really, you know, been living like it. So for me, I think, you know, I took this time this week and and just, you know, gave my life back to my Lord and Jesus savior, uh, Jesus Christ. Got back on my knees, started praying, and, you know, what he did for me out there on the football is is, you know, it comes from that. But I think the biggest thing for me is like I got I got that piece that I was missing and it’s going to help me. The the um the interception to just turn it over. What did What did you see on that play there? You see Demarcus kind of getting get him there? Yeah, I seen Demarcus holding him. I mean, like, you know, getting ready to bring him to the ground and when you catch these interceptions, everything kind of slows down. So, I’m thinking, there’s no way he’s about to throw this. And he let it go. And then I catch it and then I’m like, there’s nobody in front of me. Um, so I immediately started running. I look up at the video board and I’m like, dang, somebody’s catching me. Um, it was it was Reek. Uh, Reek was just trying to beat me to the end zone. Um, but that was my first ever defensive touchdown. Um, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the end zone, so it was great. I was gonna ask if you could tell how fast Rico was moving there. I could tell it was like the the the video board was picking him up in like pixels. Like he’d get closer each time that I’d see him. You ran 110 yards on that play with with everything that you had to do. Were you tired at the end of that or Oh, I was so tired. I was extremely tired. Luckily, the next drive, I think, was a short one. Um, but yeah, I was It’s worth it, though. You’re currently second in the league in interceptions. Did you have that on your bingo card before the season? I did. Oh, you did? I honestly did. Okay. Uh the goal was six. Um it was the goal was like 10 turnovers in general. So whether that be however it come out just 10 of them. So we’re not there yet. We got a couple more to go. So we’ll see. You said you you got that piece back that you were missing. What’s the piece? Oh Jesus Christ. My lord. Yeah. Going back to something that Cooper said. Um, how important is it for you to set the example, not just talk about it, but set the example as a leader on this team? I mean, that’s everything for me. Like, like I said, like this football stuff, it’s cool, man. Way I was raised and the way I was brought up, man, the person matters. Um, it’s what I’m teaching my son. And at the end of the day, when we leave this earth, man, how what type of person were you? Can people count on you? Can people trust you? And did you, you know, stand by your word? And that’s what I lean on. didn’t is getting a shut out a big deal for you guys as a defense today? 100%. I you know I think we’ve been in this situation um and we’ve let teams score seven or three. So for us to finally close out a game um when starters came out, no drop off, people were able to get stops and that that that was big for our defense. What was it about this week that reconnected you or that it happened when it did? Um like I said, I just I think I was just I’m always wanting to try to get better. um try to do something to get better. And I felt like it was the conviction. I just I’m miss I was missing it. Um and I and I wanted to live, you know, live and be the person that I am. That who who he put me on this earth to be. Your your knees. Okay. Oh, it’s great. It was running pretty fast. Uh yeah. No, but it’s feel good. Um I was excited to get back out there with my guys. Didn’t know this was going to happen, but it it was great. Why didn’t the clock back the year this Vikings team not essentially ended your guys’ season? I mean, what did it feel like just to not only get a little more revenge, but also just to shut out and just maybe end their season? Yeah, I mean, it it felt good for us right now. Any win, whoever jumps up on that that that schedule, we’re looking for that win. But definitely good, you know, to get this win and and for me it’s like defensively Sam just came from there. You know, you you want your guys to win those games and I wanted mine to win. So, you hear living in the death zone. What’s that mean? How do you explain that? Um, how do I explain it? It’s kind of, you know, it’s it’s tough to explain what what I think about of living in the death zone is there’s no tomorrow. There’s no second chance. Like, we we’re in the death zone now. There’s six games left. The NFC’s jumping. It’s popping. Great teams all around. You got to win these games. So, speaking of NFC West popping, when you guys have control of your own destiny now with the Rams losing, does that mean anything to you? I think I think for us it’s just it’s day by day. This team the way we’re wired right now, it’s like we just want to who’s who whoever’s next like let’s prepare for those and Sunday when that comes around we we just go out there and just try to you know get the job done. Thank you.

  1. Ernest Jones went through so much — he lost his father earlier this year, was traded in the early stages of having a brand new baby, and not appreciated. Yet through all of it, he’s thriving in Seattle. God has been with you every stay up of way Ernest.

  2. No matter what your faith is, or what higher power you believe in, this man is on the righteous path.. Stay human, stay humble and love your brothers and sisters. Respect to EJ and GO HAWKS!

  3. WOW, the QUALITY OF CHARACTER OF SOME OF THE SIGNINGS THE LAST COUPLE YEARS! Gotta Love EJIv, Cooper Kupp, Leonard Williams, and also Milroe, hope he getsome field time to develop. This is a special group!

  4. Don't get me wrong, I love me some EJ. Having said that, thank the sweet baby Jesus that the lord took some time off from giving aids to kids in Africa to make sure EJ had a good football game….

  5. The offense wasn’t working, having fumble at end zone, the crowd was like what’s going on?

And this defense not only stopped forth down but getting the pick 6 was, just awesome! I felt like every thing went slow motion as well.

Earnest proofed how defense play just a little more better play and we can win the game as he mentioned after Rams game.

Glad this guy is on our team. Go Hawks!

  6. This dude is everything you want in a MLB and teammate. The difference in the Hawks Defense between before EJIV and after is like night and day. So pleased for his success and happy that he’s healthy and back on the field doing his thing.

  7. How can you not love this man, just imagine if he stayed with the Rams… We love you E you are a leader of men 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
